The Premier diagnostic center in Deira has an MRI and I know there is a clinic with the title "advanced radiology center" in jumierah as I have driven past it. With a name like that they must have an MRI scanner. Perhaps you can google both of them for contact details.

But what part of it is a scam? Illegal, yes, but not a scam. He paid for the suits, he got the suits, nothing sinister there. In the past when people have posted about it the selers have claimed they are genuine designer - Armani - Versace etc stock. they usually sell at night or in dark places - carparks at malls. On closer inspection they turn out not to be ... that is the scam - I remember it now. edited by Genie on 12/12/2011

I don't know for sure but would bet that Lakeland would have them. I know their shops in the UK stock them. pehaps you could call them. Another place worth checking is Crate and Barrel.

The Fujeirah Rotana resort has adjoining rooms. I stayed there and it was in the rooms that are in the grounds rather than the main hotel- lovely you can just step right out on to the grass/ pool/ beach. We had two adjoining rooms that were not overly large but spacious enough. Nice to be able to sit outside on your own patio.

Thanks Sanddy for the link, its calculated how much postage is required. just ove 100 AED. But, has anyone actually sent a 'Jiffy Bag' in the normal mail box 'like an envelope'? I seriously can't believe that ANYONE would ask this question.... A jiffy bag is the name for a small padded envelope (USA I think). Are you confusing it with a plastic sandwich bag?

I always tip about 10% and extra for the wash but sometimes wonder should I tip the stylist? I personally know of 3 stylists who earn over 25,000 per month and several that earn between 20 - 25,000 - without tips on commision based salaries. As that is more than I earn and I have already paid a lot for their services, which they get a big cut of, I wonder should I give them more. I always do but still I wonder about it.

Try using olive oil rather than water to clean - it causes less drag and therefore less friction on the skin as well as creating a barrier and containing vitmain E for healing. If you can find any here Metatonium is a fantastic cream I have been used to using in hospitals for nappy rash (along with the cleaning with olive oil) Metatonium forms a very thick barrier which is quite difficult to remove, it is a thick yellow paste. The point is not to try and remove it - just clean over it with olive oil and then reapply. I have seen it cure the worst cases of nappy rash in a day or two. If you can't find it then use the thickest cream that stays on that you can find along with the olive oil and as you have been doing as much fresh air as possible. ETA Snap janasul - it really is a fantastic cream - pity if it is not available here. Maybe Boots might have it? edited by Genie on 05/12/2011

It may depend on the type of hotel you prefer; the Rocco Forte is a very modern building whilst the Shangri La is built in a traditional Arabic style. Personally I really like the Shangri La, the rooms are really comfy and the bathrooms large and luxurious and the rooms have a nice large balcony with comfy furniture. Anytime I have stayed I always have a fab view of the beach and Sheizh Zayed Mosque- the fact that is also has a beach is a plus point. The best thing about it for me though is the peace and quiet - all you can hear is bird song when you sit on your balcony. Yeah we do prefer the luxurious Arabic look to modern...I had a look at the Rocco Forte but it's quite a bit more than we were hoping to spend. Think I've looked at literally every single hotel in Abu Dhabi and still nothing's grabbed me! :( The Shangri La is really good -it feels luxurious without being too formal or cold (like the Emirates palace) and as it is a resort type place has lots of outlets plus you can walk along to Traders hotel as well for more options ETA - I don't have shares in it - just really like it :D edited by Genie on 24/11/2011

It should not be a problem having a reaction to PPD test if you have been vaccinated as you would be expected to have one. The way it is interpreted is the key - there are even tools and guides for clinical staff who evaluate them so that they can interpret the reacton. Basically they measure the size of the swelling. In general it should be less than 15mm if you have been vaccinated - anything above that needs more investigation. (there are other varibables for babies health care workers etc but in gerneal it is 15mm) All health care workers who adminster and interpret the test know this - so it should not cause any problem that you have a reaction to PPD - you are expected to have one. You are right in that one would expect a positive test reaction if had BCG previously. I believe mine was around 5-6 mm, but the point is that they will not just take your word that you had BCG vaccine without investigating further. I understand that they classified the results based on 5, 10 and 15mm increments and 5mm could be someone with a recent contact of TB. I guess one can never be too careful especially in the US where TB is not prevalent. Why would they not believe a rationale adult? I suppose that is why keeping vaccination records is important though anyone who has theirs from more than 20 years ago is a hero is my eyes;) BCG vaccines used to leave a very typical scar on the arm - they always used to check that for final confirmation but not everyone gets them. ETA too many typos today - no glasses with me! edited by Genie on 23/11/2011

Most like to make their own - see link - but I would bet that you can get it in the spice souk because I know I have bought Loomi (the dried limes) used in local cooking from there. I *think* that the one in the Co-Op is probably the right one as many Emirati's shop there, or how about the local Emirati supermarket chain- can't remember the name of it but I am sure someone will know it http://www.fahad.com/Dishes/Spices/bezar.html

Matchboos - cooked with meat or fish though the onlytime I ate it was a veggie version. Rashid is not just for trauma they see all types of cases. Those considered non urgent are redirected to their 24 hour walk in clinic. Emergencies are free of charge. For non urgent cases there is a charge of 50 dhs for those with a valid DHA health card and 200 dhs for those without valid DHA health card. The same applies Dubai hospital and similar but slightly different (for women and children) at Al Wasl Hospital HTH

Its the cost of the M and S ones really-I cant bring myself to pay that much when I could make them -although not as nice .We have seen a ad for some Prue Leith ones for Asda on iPlayer and just fancied a box -and of course ,now that he says he wont bring them ,we want them all the more! I bought some from the M&S in the Wafi last night - the puff pastry, lattice top and normal ones were 15aed for 6 - not bad that is only about 2.5 pounds - Are they that much cheaper in the UK? I have had one - they were worth it :D The mini luxury ones were 25 aed for 9

Thanks SwissSandy. Do you know if there are any Caterpillar stores here in Dubai? Both DH and I are so thin blooded we've decided on 2 pairs of socks each, everyday - we found London cold in December, so pretty sure, we are going to look like a couple of Michelin Men in Beijing!! You were unlucky with the weather in London last December - apparantley it was the coldest one since 1890 with the average temp being 3.4C - it is usually much milder than this. I second Timberland - I had a pair that I used last Xmas that got me through two weeks of snow and ice without a slip up.

If you do not want an upmarket place then the best basic place I know is the Thai massage therapy centre on SZR, next to the Dusit Hotel and behind the Sketchers shop. Tiny place, clean but basic but absolutely the best Thai massage you will have outside of thailand, also quite cheap. The masseuse is a man.

1847 is an upmarket men only spa in Emirates towers and also the Grovsner house hotel. The Sensasia spa on the Palm also caters for men, as does the Park Hyatt Hotel I know men who have used these places rate them highly. Basically any of the more upmarket 5 * hotels usually offer decent spa facilities for men that offer massages. edited by Genie on 20/11/2011

You are right in feeling a little bit cynical. IVF clinics here often treat patients who would not be considered for IVF elsewhere (newly wed - only being trying for a year etc) They also transfer a far high number than is allowed by law elsewhere. ( I know of cases where 8 fertilised eggs where transferred). If you can find out their inclusion for treatment criteria it may give you a more realistic idea. (how long do you have to have been trying before you can be seen or treated etc) Edited for typos edited by Genie on 16/11/2011

Try one of these numbers 043243434 - main switch 04 4294000 044294041 044294042 These are the various people we deal with - but I do not know which is commercial or personal as I usually get reception to phone and put the call through to me as I get sick of no reply.. she has left for the day so cannot ask her. Ignore the 1st instructions that I typed just now they were for Tavola at Jumeriah. For Umm Seqeim take SZR towards Abu Dhabi exit on Umm Al Sheif Street - 1st exit after Safa park - it is a small exit with no interchange. Go straight over the small roundabout and you will come to a traffic lights after a few hundred yards.Do a U turn and then into Spinneys carpark on your righthand side. Tavola is in there. edited by Genie on 15/11/2011 edited by Genie on 15/11/2011

Yes, there is always a queue of them along with the regular taxis and am also normally directly to them - which I now decline - the ladies don't tend to help you with bags (or just give a feeble attempt) as the men do and the ones I've experienced are dreadful drivers, really never felt so nervous before. They just don't seem to be confident drivers IMO! quote'> Exactly why I don't use them - even though I am always directed to them by the supervisor. They are usually always there but never more than 3 or 4 and if it is a really busy time they often direct families to them so sometimes none left, though I don't imagine you would have to wait too long for one. edited by Genie on 13/11/2011

I always manage to find proper maltesers here you just have to search out the bags with the offers / ads on. i.e a while back they said reducued to one pound, before that they were advertising red nose day, at the moment they have some movie/ dvd offer on the front of the pack. They are often next to the 'local" ones, but sometimes further along the shelf. Lots around at the moment I have been buying them every week for ages. I bring back mags greeting cards DVD's Red wine vinegar vitamins and supplements Licorice Allsorts
