I agree with Cheeky Monkey (and Tessa!) that sites like MFP are excellent and really make you aware of what you are eating and quantities etc. I'm doing that this week in between the [strike'>mountains of [/strike'> excess food last week and next weekend. 5&2 is also good as a continuation of that and for a couple of 'fasting' days a week. Cleanse 9 is just part of the [strike'>complete scam[/strike'> cleverly marketed FL programme but if it makes some people happy then each to their own. Alternatively just buy lots of spanx/squashing type underwear and get the chocolate box out. :P I completely agree with you in the long term, but for a quick fix the Cleanse 9 works for me and puts me back on the right track, so I can keep the weight off. As for the spanx....... it's the bits that squash out that are more frightening that anything else ;)

Sorry, still happy with my Cleanse 9 for a few days and then back to normal eating and as much exercise as I can be bothered to do, usually walking the dogs at night!! At my age I think that's enough for me to be doing as and when I need to. There was very little of this constant gym and dieting when I was younger and I'm certainly not starting in my 50's ;)

Gosh, did the OP actually get an answer to her question? lol I was sure her question was "what is the quickest method to lose weight"? not "how safe is it to lose weight quickly so please wade in with opinions" lol... Just saying lol I gave her my answer and got shouted down, but hey ho, it works for me and I'll be doing it again next week :)

Sorry, but there is no way I would risk this. I assume they'll have to check in by 3am. I have known people be stuck downtown till well after that! Why not try and find somewhere out of town to sit and watch the fireworks and then have an easy run to the airport.

Even post to a PO Box is a bit hit and miss, A friend sent a small parcel in September to my PO Box and it's still not arrived! Shop n Ship or courier is the only sure fire answer. Yes I guessed that. Normally use SnS but it's in my husband's name and the surprise was for him :( Hopefully I'll eventually get my money back when it gets back to the UK

Also please remember that if you use an office address you also need their PO Box number. I now have a parcel missing somewhere here in Dubai because the company I ordered from were adamant that it was not required because I had also given the full office address.

Which is why I suggested the Cleanse 9. The OP asked for a quick fix. Also it has worked for me and I've kept the weight off on the whole, but I know I can always go back for a few days if I have a blow out.

I lost 3kg on the Cleanse 9 and another 3 during the following couple of weeks. It made me think about the amount of food I was actually eating as for the first time in my life I was counting calories. I am sticking to the calorie counting most of the time and do tend to do a Cleanse 9 occasionally, but only for about 5 days now.

No, we ended up paying more for the monthly charge. Also we hated having the bottle standing at the fornt door so decided to go for electric. Also the alarms are very dodgy and we had a couple of scares when there was actually nothing wrong.

If you've been out of the country between visas you do the xray again DH has been in and out regularly in the last three years, as I would imagine quite a lot of people have, including me and we didn't have to have another x-ray. Also mine was a change of visa from husband sponsorship to employee.

Does it also test for pregnancy? I don't think so, but they always ask if you could be before they do the x-ray

The husband of a friend failed his medical for a similar reason and he's not even allowed back in Dubai as a visitor! Hi Geordie, do you have any idea how many weeks more i'm allowed to stay here? He had to leave just before his visit visa expired.

I read somewhere that over 50% of expats have loans and another 15% have more than one Banks are still trying to lend as I get calls daily. Whenever I am out shopping/socializing etc everyone I seem to see is using a credit card to buy products Hopefully they are paying the full amount off each month. I don't think things will be as bad as 2009 as that was a global financial crash but I do feel the oil decline will have an effect on us here and I am seeing more and more people in this industry heading home as they have lots their jobs I use credit card just for the points, and every week am paying it off. I think that might be the reason why many people use them. So maybe everything is not that bad. I use ours for the airmiles and also pay it off every month. Also I sometimes end up losing between 5 and 10 AED a week when I'm shopping and they can't give me any change

Id like to know how long it takes after applying. I applied over a month ago, and was originally told just 2 weeks. Still waiting. Is it normal? There is an Interesting read in 7 days regarding tourists and licenses today, btw. Have you been back to the store where you applied. They don't always contact you and you may find your license is waiting for you.

I know it's a long way off for the OP but a number of my friends with young children are planning to go home when they become teens. They feel that there is no room for their children to "make mistakes" out here without having to face very dire consequences.

We've got friends who have lived on the Palm and it's obviously a life choice for them, some just like to be able to say this. Personally, DH and I prefer some privacy in our lives and it's just not for us. Must be coming from Gods own county !!

The huge bookshop in Dubai Mall. I bought one large hardback copy which includes all the stories there a couple of weeks ago. Much cheaper than buying the box set of them all individually.

I'm pretty sure Tessa isn't LC. One of Tessa's posts incorrectly said "your" instead of "you're". There is no way LC would make such a grammatical faux pas  Apart from the grammatical error, I'm sure LC would have brought schools into it somewhere ;)

There is only one way to eat fish and chips - out of newspaper! Unless you cook them yourself but I don't have a deep fat fryer and I needed something quick and warming. My husband put plates to warm in the Aga and I drive a bit too quickly to get them home whilst still warm - it's 11 miles. The warm plates mean the food stays warm whilst we eat but we put the paper on top. Well that's one thing you'll be unlikely to enjoy here as most fish and chips are not worth buying

Try searching on propertyfinder.ae too as they are more reliable. As for areas a lot will depend on what you need in terms of transport if you are not planning to drive, or if you want to be close to your DH work place.

you say you have come to Dubai before yet: - you know the name of "the ranches" but you don't know the name of Sheikh Zayed Road.... (named after the late king and most prominent figure here) - you know that the churches are mixed in race but you don't know that all women can wear abayas, and jalabiyas... Yet you say you have been here? Had you not seen what people were wearing?? - You say you are from the country, yet you are admit to live on the beach which are in the busiest areas of town... - you say you have been here, yet you clearly didn't notice that Dubai is a city like any other in the world. Thus if you have a house on the beach which has a yard, why on earth wouldn't you be able to put a pergola, or a tent, or a bbq, or even a statue of a rabbit there??? Its your yard!! I'm so confused by this thread. If you are indeed real you have very skewed perspectives on Dubai and perhaps even the whole world outside your small town bubble.... Yeah, indeed, Tessa if from such a deep countryside that no one delivers to them, so poor woman has to cook every day for her CEO husband who works in a very successful company, probably also located in the countryside with no restaurants there. And now they must live on the beach! This thread is keeping me and my collegues amused for hours. But on the delivery topic have a look on google maps for Stonehaugh, Northumberland. We don't have any deliveries there. Poor us :( What a lovely place to live GE. Wild Northumberland, I'd say it's worth the inconvenience of no deliveries to live in such a special place. ? It is lovely thanks and well worth the inconvenience. Everyone helps each other and if you run out or forget to by something, especially in winter there is always someone there who can help you out. BUT is there someone who will wipe your sunglasses ?!?!?! For the odd one or two days a year you need them, I'm sure I'll find someone ;)
