It took us years to sell our property, and despite wanting to leave the UAE we couldn't until we sold our property. If I could do things differently no way would I have bought. This is one of the things that puts us off buying here. What happens if you lose your job for whatever reason and you're stuck with a property and mortgage you can't service? DHs boss has been here 11 years already and he refuses to buy.

If you have young children I would say a fence around your pool at home is a must as it is so easy for toddlers to wander into the garden. What price their life?? Sorry I know that, it's just common sense and if we needed one for that reason I wouldn't have an issue. I just wanted someone to tell me I hadn't imagined seeing a post about this ;)

Just tell him you're going to the Rent Committee to get them to sort it. We did that and ended up with only 1k being taken off our deposit for repainting. That was purely because we didn't have the time to have the villa repainted. We filled in all the holes and had it cleaned, but that was all.

Thanks, just looked at it, seems a bit small though It is. It's fine for me as I just like to pop in for an half an hour or so and do my own thing, when I can be bothered.

There is a gym at the Polo Club. I can't comment on it as I've never been. http://www.poloclubdubai.com/en/leisure/leisure-membership.aspx It's not a very big gym and it depends on what you want to. We use it occasionally, but not with a trainer or anything.

If you can't find it at Holland & Barrett out here, why not Shop and Ship from the UK. I still get all my stuff from them that way I was looking at doing that with the penny sale being on at the moment :D so I've ordered loads of other things and my husband will bring them back with him when he's there in a few weeks time but the Vitex isn't on sale and I don't have enough to cover until he brings it back :/ Does shop and ship work with Holland & Barrett? I know there's a few places it doesn't because of it needing a signature. BTW nice to find another fellow from the North East ;) Never had an issue in three years and I still use my loyalty card :) Where in the North East?

We've just started our 4th year here and DHs boss has asked him if he'll stay on for at least another 5-7 years, or more if we want to. Even knowing this we still will defintely not be buying somewhere. Anything can happen out here and if you have no comeback to help you pay a mortage where do you turn then? Sell at a greatly reduced price and then what?? Sorry but to us it's just far too risky.

There is another bathroom shop on SZR if you go back towards the Gold and Diamond Park. Sorry I can't remember the name but it's on the corner just after the Subaru showroom.

These comments are a little unfair - they said at the outset prices would be adjusted monthly depending on global price movements. Fuel prices change regularly in most other markets, and people manage to budget regardless. True, it sometimes change daily in Europe. If you noticed, my remark was followed by a wink as it was said for fun.

Just used these guys and it was the smoothest and easiest move I have ever done anywhere, they are excellent. I didn't have to lift a finger and everything ended up exactly where it was meant to go. They packed, unpacked and took all the boxes away with them. http://promove.ae/

Hi, Queue point is still off plan, I would advise against it, it's not close to metro, any amenities, there are no facilities around it, it takes 20 minutes to downtown/ DXB aiport, I would recommend buying in Furjan next to Disco Gardens you can buy a 2 B/R appt for 1.3 million its less than a year old. hope this helps. Many of the buildings are actually completed now - lots of people living there. Have friends there and they seem to like it. Sky Courts close by has a small supermarket and they were developing a shopping complex in The Villa, which is also close by - not sure how far they got with that though There's a Spinney's and Costa that I know of in The Villa, but the shops at Silicon Oasis aren't that far away, neither is MCC. It takes me 15 minutes (on a good run :) ) down the 66 from the junction with Emirates Road to DIFC, haven't tried the Airport Run yet.

@wickedangel_78. Thanks for the tip for a shelf in the freezer section as I do need to keep a tray inside to freeze things at times. Unfortunately not enough space in kitchen for a side by side refrigerator. @amelia and Geordie expat...is your Panasonic fridge's model number NRB651? https://www.carrefouruae.com/webstore/Product.aspx?productid=2300&name=PANASONIC_FRIDGE_NRB651#description That's the only one I can see in Carrefour and everywhere else. If you have something different can you share the model number and from where you bought it? Thanks Yes that's mine. If I need to freeze anything on a try I just take the drawer out first, but that's a very rare occurrance.

Canvasjet.com I've recently used them and was very happy with the print quality. I'm a graphic designer so I'm very picky about final print colours but they were spot on. Thanks. For some reason I can't access their web page, do they have a shop in Dubai as I'd like to see some of their work before I go ahead? I need the colour to be spot on because of the type of picture it is.

Thanks Londonmum! They are nasty and malicious and I cant wait to post the name of them if I do not get what I deserve. Couch Potato - I was doing absolutely nothing that would ever suggest I was under the influence of alcohol! It is disgusting isnt it? I was shaking when I read that yesterday! Oh infact wait... it may have been the fact I was standing doing the Macarena on the balcony... And now you'll be all over the FB page ;)

When they tell you there is nobody in the country to sign a cheque you can remind them that we live in an advanced technological world and that you will happily accept a bank transfer from wherever the LL is instead :) Oh have no fear we had tried all that :) They then said they couldn't contact him!!! I am now assuming that they have a wonderful bank account that pays them loads of interest, so it is in their interest to keep peoples money as long as is possible. ;) I'm just pleased the cheque has gone through

Ha! I will get back on it... one day! So do you still live in JVT? I have heard some funny things are posted on there haha! No we left a couple of months ago. It was turning into a building site and the access was becoming too much of an issue. Only thing we really miss are our neighbours as we had good ones on both sides and behind us. As for the page, it often turns into cat fight and that's only the men ;)

Hmmm not too sure about 5E, there are a few girls in the group that live in JVT but I cant remember exactly where all of them live, only know a couple... sorry! Its open! It has a Cafe Bateel in, Carluccios, Carrefourre, amongst a few clothing shops... I may have put 2 and 2 together and made 5 ;) She works in Abu Dhabi and they have two dogs. Any the wiser as I don't want to put their names up here. Think I may go and try the new AR shops this weekend :) Haha hmmm I know a girl who has just recently got a job working in Abu Dhabi (few month ago - she used to work in Dubai) and has 2 dogs. How do you think we are friends? Have some details I have posted struck a chord?! Yes that's her I was on the JVT FB page and saw someone posting details about a c**p house move they'd had and I guessed it was you. A day or so later he appeared in the lists you get asking if you know this person and we have 4 mutual friends. Put 2 and 2 together and voila !!

Oh interesting! What district did you used to live in in JVT? I will know straight away once you say the district... Well, there is a canvas store in the new shopping centre in Arabian Ranches too. It looks quite good from what they have on their walls... but I am really hesitant to try anywhere without hearing from actual people that their canvases haven't faded in colour... 5E I may go and check that one out. Do you have any idea when it will open?

I've been told that there is a good one in Dubai Mall next to Hallmark, but when I asked the cost all I got were raised eyebrows, so I'm assuming very expensive. We've got a lovely picture looking back from the Farne Islands of Bamburgh Castle and the Cheviots, and I want it as big as we can afford and to make sure it lasts. PS I have a feeling you may be friends with our ex next door neighbours in JVT

Well we got our deposit cheque back - minus 1k - which I thought was quite reasonable as the villa hadn't been repainted in three years. It would have cost us more than that to have it done ourselves. After taking some advice we threatened to take the agency to the Rent Committee, not the LL and bingo we had the cheque within 24 hours :) Fantastic news!!! When our LLady refuses us ours, maybe I will threaten the terrible agency with RERA too, as the problem is they do not communicate our issues/threats back to her. I think that was our problem too. They kept saying the LL was out of the country or unavailable to sign the cheque. After we had spoken to a friend, who's a lawyer, we went straight back to them and just said we were going to the Rent Committee the following day, as if by magic, one cheque :) They even banked it for us and it has now just cleared

Thank you ladies for all your recommendations. Is bottom freezer something worth paying extra for, in the long run? i am looking at few 'fridge at top and freezer at bottom' models, just wondering if they are really useful and practical? Any suggestions? Thanks We've just bought a new Panasonic from C4 with a bottom freezer. Personally I think it's much easier to use as I don't have to keep bending down to get to the salad drawers etc in the bottom of the fridge. Also if you work out how many times you open the fridge door compared to the freezer, to me it makes complete sense. Have the most used door in the most convenient place.

Used a British owned company, (who did provide insurance if needed), with their own staff, no one was hired in for the day. Yes it took two days as we had a lot of stuff from one villa to another, but I didn't have to lift a finger, everything was done for me, packing, unpacking, the lot. Everything in the right room and all unpacked, even my clothes hung up for me. So pleased we even used them again at the weekend to move some other stuff we'd bought

As others have said it all depends on your budget. There are also some lovely 3 bed houses in Falcon City. No amenities as yet, but a shop shouldn't be long!! It's not far to the shops in Silicon Oasis, Mirdif and Arabian Ranches. To be honest, unless you live near the metro you really need a car to get around.

Using Careem on an ordinary basis, you always get a text once the driver is there to collect you and again when the drive is over. I'm sure if you asked them they could change it to suit. I travelled on my own to school on public transport from the age of 8 and had to change buses once. In those days it was the norm.

DH's expired passport came back like that and he has no issues with his current visa being in it. He just carries both held together with an elastic band. I would imagine that there are a lot of people, specially those who travel a lot, in this situation.

I personally would say "nightmare". We have used it on a few occasions to get into DIP at around 7am and then back again at 7pm and there's always been a horrendous queue. Also with all the road works they are busy with at the moment I have a feeling it may get worse before it gets better. Would he be able to do a test run one night and see how long it takes him to get there?
