Hi, Is it common to charge extra for insurance? I thought that companies should have such insurance in place - not only for the customer, but to protect themselves ... You're talking two different types of insurance. When we moved recently we checked and our home insurance covered the move. If it hadn't we would have taken out their cover to take into account any damages they may have caused. Some people don't feel the need to pay extra for insurance and when / if accidents happen, that's when the fun starts!!! A good company will always ask if you have insurance for your goods in transit. The removal company had their own liability insurance which covered them for any accidents they may have had while carrying out the job.

Hi, one important point you mentioned already ... insurance. Whomever you inquire, ask him to submit the insurance cert along with proposal! When we moved last time, they destroyed an item, which was 10 times the price of the moving ... all we could do was to not pay them - the rest of the damage is our problem ... Pls note that at peak times, most companies are subcontracting or using part-timers .... very often unskilled ... and pretty careless Which is why I suggested ProMove as they only use their own employees. He will also quote for insurance for you.

There is a new dog park at The Green Community, DIP but not sure of you can stay there during the weekday with your dogs. http://mysecondhomedubai.com/ And apart from that, there's an outdoor dog park at The Greens. Again not sure if it's open to non-residents.

I can see both sides of this argument - i never had help at home and would have felt guilty/selfish getting a babysitter for some 'me time' (for some reason currently unknown, now I would run at top speed to the nearest salon and take whatever time i could get lol) so I used to be guilty of doing this. However now conversely if I went to a salon now I would probably be a bit irritated if there was a child there. A great concept would be a salon with a little soft play area for children on the side with a nanny - mums can have their me time without feeling guilty or requiring to get help in, and the children would be safe and happy. We just bought a Dust Buster from C4. Much easier to just pick up the odds and ends of dog hair without having to lug the vaccum round. Better on the stairs too.

It probably doesn't. I believe, and no doubt someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but it is only updated by using the rents of those people who register for Ejari and although we are all supposed to do that, I know of a lot of people who haven't bothered.

I would take it for AED165000 The rent calculator stipulates a 3 bed should be over AED200,000 Two beds in the Greens ( Apartments) are going for AED130,000-140,000 therefore AED165000 for a 3 bed and study is a bargain I would worry though about his stipulating not raising the rent for 2 years as even if it is in writing the rent calculator overrides that so as the property at present is worth over AED200,000 according to the calculator he may get wind of that and is entitled to raise the rent. However if the rent drops you can ask for a discount. The rent for a Three bedrooms villa in Arabian Ranches is in the range 200000 to 240000 AED per year. Your rent is 21% to 30% less than the average similar rent in the area. So you are entitled to a maximum increase of 10% ( 16500 AED per year) Rent does not include water,electricity or any other fees. I have checked on dubizzle though and similar properties (unfurnished) are going for btw 165k to 180k. The rent calculator must be very high. The rent calculator is based on what people actually pay and not what properties are advertised at

If he wants to change anything in the terms of the contract he must notify you more than 90 days before the contrat is due. SarahLou my laptop is playing up and I can't get access to the RERA calculator, to link it !!! One thing I will say is that it is only updated every 3 months, so you cannot look too far ahead.

I would say go for it, 'cause even if the property prices do drop at the end of this year, you can almost guarantee that the RERA index won't go down.

The only info I can find is for companies or people going in to the UK. Perhaps worth contacting the Tax Office. Sorry can't help any further as we still use out UK address. Did you fill out a P85 before you left the UK?

Geordieexpat, Qatar is great for a long weekend. It's a slower pace of life but has some really lovely areas. i especially enjoyed walking down the Cornich and we stayed in a very nice hotel. Not sure i would like to live there but we had a great time for a weekend. As long as the hotel's are good that's the main thing, as that and the MotoGP circuit will be all I'll see ;)

I left Dubai just over 2 years ago to move to Qatar, we are happy to say we are moving to AD on 24th. Never lived in AD so am looking forward to it, Ive visited at weekends whilst in Dubai. Cant wait to get out of Qatar, its **** on earth, well for us it has been. I spent the weekend in Qatar and have to say I've never, ever been so happy to leave a place in my life! Everything I tried to do was extraordinarily difficult - from having lunch where the staff over-charged me by adding an extra zero to my bill and then couldn't work out how to fix it to checking into the hotel where half the lights in the room didn't work and they couldn't work out how to fix it or find a different room - just absolutely everything was painful. In the end, I changed my flight by 3 hours - and even though the earlier flight was empty and we were flying without baggage - they charged me 600 dirhams, more than the original flight. I paid it because I was just so happy to get out of there! This does not bode well for our propsed long weekend there next year :(

We use AquaPlus and buy the voucher books directly from them as and when needed. All I do is call them the day before my delivery and ask them to bring me a new book with the water. If I'm going to be out I just leave the cash under the bottle for them to collect.

In all honesty do you have any idea how difficult and stressful it can be for some people to give up I tried when I wasn't pregnant and struggled. I would have hated to have tried while I was pregnant. But, why would you just not do anything to protect you child and make sure they are the healthiest they can be...woman smoking while pregnant now days is just ridiculous...we are so well informed and educated about this there is no excuse.... Yes but when you have gone through losing a baby because of the stress of trying to give up, smoking during future preganancies doesn't seem so bad! And no they couldn't prove that it was that that actually caused the miscarriage, but it certainly didn't help. Sorry GE. It sounds awful. Can I ask you, with no offence intended, why you and all the other women reading this who may be smoking still and thinking of starting a family, would you not quit first and then try for a baby? I honestly am just curious. This happened to me over 30 years ago. I was lucky and went on to have 2 gorgeous girls (I now have 2 lovely grandchildren too), but I still smoke and probably always will. I think it was just one of the things we all did back then and most of my friends smoked too. If I told you what some of us ate during our pregnancies your would have a fit, but we were all lucky, have fit and healthy children and majority of us are now grandparents. Mind I would still say to anyone who asked me, that if they are finding it so very hard to quit and get pregnant at the same time, just cut them back and relax.

I'm sorry GE :( Thanks Daza. This is one of the reasons I get so wound up about things like this. Yes we would all like to do everything possible for our babies, but as far as I was concerned the occasional cigarette did me more good than bad.

Don't forget even using the Metro for work, you may still need taxis at both ends, especially during the summer months. There's a couple of people I know, who don't have children who started out like this, living near the Metro without a car and it didn't last long. The Metro is ok, but it's not exactly the quickest form of transport, especially after a long day at work, when all you want to do is crash at home.

Sorry, but I would add a car to your list of pressing needs. You honestly can't get around Dubai without one. Yes taxis are cheap, but if you're going looking for furniture etc, you really do need one.

Only thing I can say to this, is rent somewhere established for at least your first year, so you don't have to deal with all the snagging issues that come with a new build. I would in all honesty rule Mudon out. Travelling times to DIFC from AR and Motor City aren't too bad, sorry can't help with JLT.
