Yes, corkage is exactly what it says it is. Money charged by hotels for people opening bottles of wine etc which haven't been bought on the premises. I've seen it happen in the UK especially at wedding breakfasts, where they bridal party want to supply their own alcohol.

Congrats a I'm 5wk 3 days and wanted the same answers. I've heard there is a good Greek doctor at city hospital with a name sounding like Georg michael I can't seem to find him if anyone else knows?? D23 would love to chat as due around the same time. I really hope for a pro natural birth too as I have a blood disorder so the less cutting the better! I came in that way this morning and noticed a few of the new big 'fat' type speed cameras on SZR. They've been on the AL Khail for some time now (just ask Mr GE!!) Perhaps these ones are being used to catch tailgaters. We were just saying this morning though, what happens when people go flying off towards a slip road in front of you and you're closer than 5 meters. Will they be able to tell the difference? They are the silver ones http://www.thenational.ae/uae/tailgaters-in-dubai-defy-fines-as-radar-cameras-fire-up I cant answer your question though. :-( Yep that's the ones that are on Al Khail too. They must be able to set them to do both!!

My drive to work is a little quieter but there seems to be more crazies on the road Are the new cameras on SZR? Well when I walk my dogs in the desert area behind Motorcity every morning, you can literally see the smog bank stretching from the Marina to the top of Shk Zayed rd, it's awful. It's VERY easy to see where the pollution comes from - gas guzzling, giant cars, sitting in endless traffic jams pumping out fumes. Plus all the trucks on the roads - do you think many of these are emissions tested? Although there are emissions tests for all the vehicles, it still all adds up. True, but do you not think some people come on here to get a better idea of life out here. Yes there are lots of rules and regulations we should all follow living out here, and no doubt most of us do. But to the outside world Dubai is advertised as a fabulous all year round holiday destination and from some of the adverts I've seen, it appears that anything goes. And yes the odd bizarre posts are better than nothing. I can't remember a time when I could log off in the evening and when I come back in the morning all I need to do is click on recent posts to catch up :confused:

Yes, you've got to stop washing your hair every day. To help get over the "bad" days try using a dry shampoo in between washes. Washing two or three times a week should be enough.

We've just moved to Falcon City Phase 2, but have friends in The Villa. The only advice I can give re Taxis, is that we all use Careem when we are going out as they always turn up. Coming back isn't so bad as you can direct them. There are a couple of shops there, but Silicon Oasis and AR isn't that far.

Can you Shop and ship toiletries Sarahlou? I thought I'd read it could be a problem.. I have shipped stuffed from Boots and MAC ( Liquids) and they got here Perhaps I was lucky :-) A colleague of mine ships moisturisers and shampoo

Driving in to work this morning took about 20 mins. Even the wagons etc had disappeared :biggrin: SZR was just as busy as it was last week :-( and more crazies today Getting off the 311 was a dream this morning :) Let's see what tomorrow brings when we have to go via Al Quoz and SZR!!!

I can remember doing something similar back in the UK many years ago. Only problem was I was in the right place, it was car which had gone :\: That's awful GE, did you ever recover it? No according to the police, whoever took it would have removed the parts they wanted and then dumped it in the River Tyne. What was more annoying was the new child car seat in the back :(

DIFC is very [i'>smart.[/i'> . People are very polished, wearing smart clothes and just look very well finished. More so than anywhere else in Dubai. It feels like Canary Wharf. And sometimes like a street in Amsterdam :quite:

I have recently discovered the 7 minute intense workouts. When I say discovered I mean watching them on youtube and not actually doing them :lol: but they seem like the way forward. everyone has 7 minutes! Although time is an issue, it's laziness that's the main factor for me, I just can't be [i'>bothered[/i'> at the start of the day OR the end of the day. I could probably manage 7 minutes while dinner was cooking, but could I manage to eat after ;) I'm the same at the start and end of the day, although the dogs do get walked at these times ;)

It's not so much the cars, it's all the huge wagons and cement mixers that I'm fed up with and I don't think they'll be leaving this weekend :( Is that on Al Khail? That road scares me to death It's every road I drive on apart from SZR. Now we've moved I'm using the 311, 66 and occasionally the Al Khail. The 311 scares me much more than the Al Khail ever did.

No ramadan hours but the EOSB is much better than non freezones! Most companies including my own are working Ramadan hours. You are correct about the EOSB though :-) OK for some ;)

Easy, get up an hour or so earlier. These days I am up by 4:30 else I won't fit it in. You can also do a true high intensity workout in 20 mins, it is all you need, and most of the time, it can be all body weight exercises. 3-4 of those a week is how I am getting by and my jeans are looser than ever. Just set your alarm and do something. Flippin' heck........ how much sleep do you get? 6.5 hours usually. I honestly don't think I could function on that little sleep. 23:00 to 23:30 bed at the latest and then up around 05:30 - 06:00 is bad enough. I always thought the older you got the less sleep you needed, but that doesn't seem to be the case with me :(

I would say definitely PAYG and it would depend on how old the child is and could you rely on them to always make sure there was some credit left for emergencies. Or see if either DU or Etisalat still do a PAYG package where you can pay a little extra for free calls to one particular number.

I quite like it here. The parking depends on whether your employer offers you a space or nor. If not there are some on street parking places, which do fill up very quickly. Great at lunch times if you like to eat out, plenty of choice. Close to Dubai Mall if you need anything urgently. Public holidays same as anywhere else.

Apart from the obvious can you lock it overnight? What about trying to pace something like lemon or garlic cloves on the outside, somehow. Both are quite good cat deterrents. PS I'm so pleased you put (animal) at the end ;)

If you get the chance have a look on Google and see which carrier, best covers the area/areas you'll be travelling. As someone else said some are better than others.

GE, Bosporus is now open in Wafi (close to Salam Studios). Haven't been there for breakfast but lunch was good. Not too impressed with the service though - food came out before drinks! Thanks. Not bothered whether it's breakfast, lunch or dinner, I just need some Turkish food to keep me going until September :) Service out here is something I've learned to live with and can sometimes forgive depending on the food. :biggrin:
