I like Dr. Mitchell too. I was delighted to discover a dentist in Downtown. He's a lovely manner and is great with children. He also doesn't make up diagnoses either....which does happen at some practices here!

I recently had a scare and got a full mole mapping done. I had one mole removed. I just got word today it wasn't malignant, thank God. I used Blue Tree Clinic on Beach Road. It's opposite jumeira beach hotel. Dr Julianne Reuter. She was excellent and very thorough. Highly recommended. Sorry to hear that it was skin cancer but really glad you got it in time x

I'm a teacher and have loved every gift I've ever received! I appreciate the the thought that goes into the gifts and the fact that parents and children really tried to pick something I would like. I've had lots of vouchers, smellies, chocolates, mugs, frames, candles, jewellery, purses, clothes... All sorts. The highlight though are the handwritten letters from parents. They are much more of a rarity than you would think. I received one from a parent after my first year teaching here. I still take it out to read it from time to time. ? Yes, I'm that sad ?

I bought the Wet Brush from Tips and a Toes for 65 dhs. Not sure where else sells them. Very gentle on knotty hair so I've found it's really helped when combing my hair after shampooing. Give it a try! Very gentle even on the knottiest of hair and so pulls out less then a regular brush.

Thanks guys. I think we will be happy in downtown and the apartment will hopefully be easily sold/rented when we are done. I know there are def perks to both areas and nobody has a definitive answer but was just interested to see what others thought. Thanks for all the input and suggestions. ?

Wow! That was fast! I plan on living in it for the next few years and then reselling it. (or rent f it's a while on the market) if I can't sell it. My daughter is still sleeping in our room ;) but will then hopefully graduate to the small room. I think I will be able to make the space work. There's a balcony too but only one bathroom...do you think that would make it hard to rent/re-sell? The pool and play area is fab there and Burj Park is across road plus it's Emaar and finish is lovely. On other hand Motor City apartment is nice and spacious, ground floor apartment, big balcony for LO to play on. I feel that Motor City may not be as easy to sell/rent as downtown in say five years time as by then there will be a lot more competition. I'm not sure....I'm afraid Motor City will end up a little tired looking in a couple more years. But, on the other hand has much more space. I'm really confused...I am a teacher and teach in MC area but that's only 20 minutes from Downtown anyway. What to do?

If you could purchase a small one bed plus study (study to be small bedroom) in Claren 1 in Downtown or a spacious two bedroom in Motor City, which one would you buy? (These are the only options) Which do you think would be a better investment? We have a two year old daughter and already live in Downtown area so am quite attached to the area. I would be interested in hearing your thoughts. Both are same price. Thanks in advance.

We have a Pajero and I love it. We have it five years now and we haven't had to replace anything. Nice roomy car and generous boot. Good value for what you get I think. We will be selling ours in the summer and upgrading to the newer model. Hope that helps! Any other questions, feel free to ask. :)

We had the exact same thing from November to feb with our lo. Had done weeks of nebulising, saw lots of different doctors all prescribing ventolin and pulmacort via nebuliser. The vomit, cough saga was awful. My lo looked awful and I was at my wits end. Went to dr talal farha in farha clinic in healthcare city as a last resort. He prescribed ventolin and flixotide to be given in inhaler. Two days later, her recovery was unbelievable. The cough finally went! When it crept back in a couple of weeks later, a couple of puffs for rep days completely cleared it. I am so happy. She was in terrible form all the time with this horrible cough. Clingy and angry with frequent temper tantrums. I thought it was the terrible twos. I had no idea she was feeling so bad with it. I really wanted to find an alternative route. I tried honey and cinnamon, baby vicks, sleeping upright. Only these meds worked. Please ask your doctor got a prescription for these and ask him to show you how to use the inhaler correctly. It's so much quicker and more effective than the nebuliser. I'm just delighted to have my lovely, playful toddler back! X edited by gingercat on 25/04/2014

I always chuckle to myself when people say sleeping on a second hand mattress is horrible. You know every time you stay in a hotel, yes even a five star one, the mattress has been slept on and goodness knows what else ;) hundreds if not thousands of times before you! I suppose you insist on a brand new one when you check into a hotel or stay in a friend's house or when you sleep on a long haul flight in a seat which lots of other people have slept on. Linda McCartney, Frys or Quorn sausages from Choithrams, Lulus, Spinneys and Safestway. I'm vegetarian as are a couple of my friends and we would all be more than happy with them! I wouldn't expect anyone to cook anything else. They are the 'faux-meat' variety as opposed to vegetable burgers. Then they can have burgers/hotdogs like everyone else. My hubby eats meat and loves them. A squirt of ketchup, bit of cheese on a burger bun. Yum. I'm hungry now...... :) edited by gingercat on 19/02/2014

Air drying is great and Eco friendly but to get towels really soft they need to be dried in a drier. I only ever air dry as I'm not too fussed. Crunchy towels are fine for me :)

In Executive Towers. Love it! Everything I need on my doorstep. Spinneys, restaurants, parks, coffee shops, beauty salons etc. Love how we can walk to Downtown in 10 mins. Only 20 mis walk to Dubai Mall. Only place I would consider is the exact same as Aussie81 and are not living there also for the same reason :)

I returned when my daughter was 6 months old. I expressed twice a day in work. I expressed fresh as I was lucky enough to have a good supply. I froze leftover milk. I fed her myself when I got home do only needed enough for a couple of feeds. I introduced her to a bottle at 8 weeks. She accepted it with no issues though she didn't like Tommee Tippee. We used Breastflow bottles from Mumzworld. You can freeze milk for 6 months in most freezers. Check out the dr. Sears website for loads of info about breast feeding. I exclusively breastfed my daughter until she weaned herself at 18 months. I stopped expressing when she was a year old and combined breast feeding and regular cows milk. Expressing in work was tough but totally worth it. The best of luck! PS I used Ameda Lactaline too. Great pump :) edited by gingercat on 09/02/2014

I agree...although Pottery Barn stuff is beautiful, the price is not justified IMHO. Ikea all the way! Plus if you do ever fancy a change or have to replace something it's not very costly. If you like the girls Pottery barn stuff there's a whole bedroom set for 5000 dhs in homes r us on Sheikh Zayed road. Bed, bed side tables, dresser and stool. Gorgeous! Worth a look. :)

I've been using cloth nappies on my lo since birth and she's now almost two. I got a free roll with some nappies I bought but to be honest I don't think you need them. When my lo was little I just sprayed the nappy into the loo with the hose. Now that she's bigger I just plop the 'deposit' down the loo and then spray. Sorry for tmi :) edited by gingercat on 12/01/2014

I found it impossible to get a nursery which opened early enough for me to reach my school my 7.15. That's why we ended up with a nanny. A few open for 7 so if you are really keen on a nursery, one very close to your school is the best option. To be honest we are glad we got a nanny as I don't have to prepare anything extra in terms of food etc. Her nanny makes her breakfast and lunch from the food I have in the house and then I make dinner when I get in. Also worth bearing in mind that nurseries won't take your lo if he has a fever. Our lo has had a mild fever from time to time with teething, little colds etc but otherwise fine so I was still able to go to work. Just make sure you have a back up if for some reason your lo can't go to nursery. My situation might be different to hours though as my husband works abroad a lot so I usually have to do everything myself. Hope that helps. Good luck with whatever you decide to do! I'm happy to answer any of your questions about juggling teaching and motherhood :) I've even working since my lo was 6 months old and managed to continue to breastfeed until she was 18 months old so juggling is possible!
