Depends what you want them to do...husband has a Galaxy and i have an ipad..he gets free apps, no conflicts with flash or java, can use sticks and picture quality better but the picture quality on new ipads would probably match it, mine is just an ipad 2.. on the other hand my ipad...um...can't think of anything it can do that his can't !! lol Thanks sue, what would you expect to pay for a galaxy? it's for my almost 4 year old girls, so interactive educational games is what i'm after

Hi Ginnee. How are we feeling today? Hope the apartment is not too much of a mess x edited by wiggywig on 07/05/2012 Thanks ww for asking!! My voice is recovering, still feeling very flu-ey. Yesterday I did the dishes, cleared the benches, and literally swept all the toys and mess into a corner of the lounge!! got to make do in these circumstances!! I'll probably do the same today, the girls have been qutie good today mess-wise. Hubby was more understanding than I predicted, so that was a plus!!

(Thank God) - I'm looking for a nice psychiatrist who has a good knowledge of meds for depression and anxiety, who is willing to work with me and be open to me having acupuncture and other alternative methods to get me into the best mental shape. On the subject of acupuncture, any recommendations for one who treats depression/anxiety? Thanks ladies

You could make a game out of it with the twins. By saying something like "who can find something beginning with B and put it away in the box" Do this for about 10 mins (if you can get them to last that long), keep doing this throughout the day and there you go a tidy apartment. Worth a go I think. x yes I'll have to have a go at that!!

Don't feel guilty about them entertaining themselves. It actually does them good sometimes to do that. Don't worry about the mess ( it is only toys and they will quickly be cleared away) just do what you have to do to get through the next couple of days. I have twin boys although they are nearly 12 and at times like this is a great to have twins as they do amuse each other. If they need to be put in front of the TV all day, that's fine, one day of telly is not going to hurt them x Thanks WW, I never knew you had twins too!! another surviver (LOL). i cant stand the place being in a mess though, and just paid a maid to come in two days ago to clean up, cant justify spending that money again - it's been scarce till very recently due to unemployment. IGNORE THE MESS. Just to let you know it does get so much easier the older they get. Again IGNORE THE MESS, have a cup of tea, put a DVD on that they both enjoy and if possible sit still with (haha) and watch it with them. xx it's so hard to ignore the mess when hubby gets home and moans about it - does nothing to help tidy it up, and sulks about it's presence !! I'll have to put up with it for days till I have the energy to tidy it all up :(

Hi Ginnee. It certainly is hard being a mum especially when you don't feel well. Can you ask a friend to come over for a couple of hours to look after the LOs and then try and get your head down for a little bit. Hope you feel better soon x Thanks ww, unfortunately most people I know are at work, as i should be. (I work at the girls school where they're doing KG1). no room on the school bus for them so they're stuck home with mummy :( I'm feeling sorry for them as they're just kind of entertaining themselves, thank God they have each other to play with. but I can see my apartment slowly turning into a dump :( - not looking fwd to the clean-up later!

Wow! I never realised salt hardens them, & I didn't know about the baking soda. This is what I have been doing wrong....I gave up and started buying the tinned chickpeas,as it was taking me way too long. I'm going to give it another try .... Yes, give it a try, it's well worth it!! also, the colour is alot paler when you add the baking soda. which is nicer when you're making Hommous. The tinned ones are - bluuuuuurrrrrrgh, compared to cooking them yourself :)

Thanks Tanya and others. Things were really rough for a while there, bit having support here made it more bearable and less disheartening. The situation is not perfectly ideal (hubby working in Abu Dhabi and me in sharjah - living in JLT. We are all buggered each day from travel, but it's a d*mn sight better than being unemployed and without health insurance. God is good ;)

if you want to put loads of movies on it a Galaxy would be better because you can use sticks..also picture quality we think is better on Galaxy but i don't suppose 4 year olds care too much about that lol Also there's the obvious limitations of ipads not being able to use flash or java...i have an ipad and husband has a galaxy - of the two i think i prefer his..and loads of apps are free whereas i have to pay !! Thanks Sue :)

add a quarter of a teaspoon of baking soda to the pot you're soaking them in overnight. then next day change the water and add another 1/4 teasp of baking soda when cooking them. DONT ADD SALT as this hardens them. salt them once they're finished. The maximum amount of time it would take to cook them with the baking soda is 40 mins. it's a handy trick :)

Just to get me over the border, so I don't have to pay the 25DHS surcharge for just crossing the border. I can then get a Taxi to a metro station. But ideally I would like to find a bus that I can get to any metro station. I also need a bus from any dubai metro into sharjah early in the morning - I have to be in Sharjah by 7.50. Hoping for some help on this !!! :)

Anouja, it's Scholars International Academy, AnonDubai, it was quite accidental how I got the job, and at the time, hubby had a job offer nearby, so I thought I'd take it as we'd eventually move to Sharjah with hubby's new job. Well that job offer didn't go through and now I still have this job I have to get to from JLT. The school bus leaves JLT at 6am :\: which is really tough going with twins to get ready as well in the morning. If I could get a lift with someone, it would be an hour maximum. I've thought of the metro idea, but being 20 mins walk from the station, it's going to take probably 1.5 hours to get there. Biscuit Maker, I'm working on it!! I'm a relatively new driver - meaning not just here, but anywhere!! I cant get my full australian licence till Sept, then I can just swap it over here. in the meantime I'm trying to practice in hubby's car, which is huge and taking time to get used to. So I'm just hoping there might be someone I can get a lift with (well, me and the girls).

Thanks ladies. things are starting to look up. Hubby is on the verge of signing a work contract, but it will be in abu dhabi :(.So obviously we cant move to Sharjah. I've never really been a regular driver. I'm going to have to give my two months notice once my hubby starts his new job, but we'll probably still live in jlt till he's done his 3 mths probabtion, you just never can be too careful these days!! so if anyone can help me out I'd be so grateful, even if I have to meet someone at a metro station along the way - I can get the metro to anywhere. I have booster seats for the girls, which are easy to pop in the car

I bought a 5 litre bottle for 135 DH is the Spanish pavilion at global village, they had an offer because they are closing I think in the next couple of days? The lady was very nice and she gave me her contact details so I can order the oil once they are closed, she said they would deliver it for free to my doorstep. I haven't opened the bottle yer but did sample the oil at the pavilion and was nice (even if the bread they give you was really horrible) actually thats an idea too, they might be selling it in the Lebanon Pavillion

The best olive oil I've ever tasted is the one from Lebanon. Quite often you'll be driving past an olive plantation and they're selling it. Alot cheaper than here and sooooooooo green and thick, it's delicious. I never use it for frying though. We smuggle it out of the country though in our luggage Usually in a soft drink bottle) as they dont like you taking it out for some reason!! ooooh that sounds lovely :) Would that be considered Pomace? it is purely divine. Not Pomace, it's extra virgin first cold pressed. if you know anyone coming from lebanon, definately ask them to bring you a bottle!

Looks like many of you hit the nail on the head about Asma and her family. Those leaked emails in the Guardian from her father and their friends, back and forth to the Assad's, are quite shocking in that they show the complicity of these western expat Syrians. I honestly imagined she, and her immediate family, were poor victims just by having the association of being married to Assad, but it appears a different story. Apparently her father is still working and living in London, these emails must be a terrible PR blow to him. what leaked emails? I'd like to have a peek
