I have heard of Drs getting kickbacks from formula companies, if this advice came with a recommendation for any specific brand of follow on formula then I would be deeply suspicious (and In no way did I imply ill be putting my daughter on a milk only diet till 2...her daily menu was discussed and approved and it was just that for milk she felt formula was THE way to go after 1. I will not be goin back to her for sure. This is really suspicious and quite disgusting, i cannot imagine a Dr advocating for formula instead of breast milk!!

Thanks ladies, I will call my pharmacist as that is the last time I used it. I know I could have googled it, but I thought there may be some extra 'inside info' or insight from other ladies personal experience, as we all know, things do not always go smoothly here when trying to do the right thing!

This is great planning, I wish I'd thought to do so when I had my girls. They were premature so I was pumping every 3 hours for the first 2 weeks and my ni**les were red-raw. I still didn't have enough milk for the two of them and feeding them was so painful. I eventually gave up after about two weeks :(. I've heard you can do things to prepare your n****** before birth, but not sure which techniques are tried and true. I would definately use MEBO cream or something similar for every feed to provide a sheild.

Little darling's only 3 - she'll be fine, this is normal for that age. The teachers and helpers wont even blink if she has an accident. Believe me, I know from experience with my girls :D

Just to let you ladies know, I took the girls to Fun City in Marina Mall and it was open - we tried a couple of weeks ago and it wasn't open then. Anyway we had vouchers and it wasn't toooo expensive. On the other hand, it had quite an impact on my wallet as I filled in my time while they were playing by going shopping!! Got some bargains :D

Personally, theres no way I would put this in writing, it may be used as evidence against you, I've become almost paranoid about these things now here. I would go and tell them personally, maybe with my hands tied behind my back to prevent me from giving them one in the teeth! It is so lucky you didn't get into trouble with the police overseas for using counterfeit notes. I would be so, so angry!

Glad to see that things have apparently moved on! CPR is really not difficult once you know how. yes and it's good to know you can become certified, so that you can't get into trouble for helping a stranger!! BTW did i mention this law I was told about doesn't apply if you perform CPR on your relative? Only non-relatives!!

from http://www.emirates247.com/news/emirates/only-if-you-know-cpr-help-in-an-emergency-dubai-police-2012-07-21-1.468132 Lt. Colonel Ahmed Al Marri, Criminal Investigation Chief at Dubai Police. “We encourage only those, who are qualified to carry out CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation), to help out till the ambulance reaches the spot. “No action will be taken against them, even if the victim dies, because they are certified to do CPR,” he elaborated. “If there is no one who is certified to do it, then they should wait till the ambulance arrives. They should not try to administer CPR if they don’t know how to, as this could endanger the victim.” CPR training: Where and how In Dubai, the Cedars Jebel Ali International Hospital offers a day-long training in safety and first-aid that is authorised by the American Heart Association (AHA). “In cases of drowning, the first few minutes are crucial. “We have to revive the victim, and if we wait it out then it could result in death,” stressed Bienvenido, an instructor for the programme, which teaches first-aid and CPR. [b'>Only those who complete the course successfully will be given a provider card issued by the AHA.[/b'> [b'>“[u'>This is proof that they are qualified to give first-aid during emergencies,” [/u'>he added. “Not everyone who takes the course gets it. Only those who show the ability, competency and skills are presented the card.”[/b'> He explained how the CPR is different for adults and children. “The three main differences are: the terms/depth of compressions, intensity of blowing air, and the use of hands (for adults you use two and for kids only one).” But, before administering any safety techniques, he advised the residents to first dial 999. Another similar course in CPR is held in Sharjah by Achamma Baiju John, American Heart Association BLS Instructor and Physiotherapist. “The 3-hour course on steps of CPR is a video-based session and a practical class with mannequins,” she described, adding it costs Dh150 and includes the manual from the American Heart Association which can be used for future references.

I always pictured kingfish as being strong flavoured. Where did u buy it? I saw a whole tuna here in AD for 20Dhs a kilo. Was so tempted as I.love sashimi and sushi, but too much for just two adukts and I dont like cooked tuna We got it from the fish souk in Sharjah. Came out to about 70Dhs for the whole thing, including butchering and cleaning. All in all it was about 2kg of fish. There wasn't a strong taste at all...one of my children was convinced they were eating chicken, lol. I marinated it in tandoori-like spices for a few hours, lightly fried each side before dunking the whole pieces in a curry to slowly finish cooking through. Was delicious! Sharjah is a long long way from where I am in AD, but next time I'm there I'll definately try this souk out, thanks :)

Why once a year? We make them all year round (my husband is Palestinian). Cook the batter on one side as you do pancakes, stuff them and put syrup with a touch of rosewater just before serving. Never deep fry them. Can't see any point in buying them premade-they are idiot proof-even my son has made them himself since he was a young teenager.Wuffles, could you pls share your homemade atayef recipe pls? DH returning from business trip soon and I'd love to surprise him.... Yes please :D

But you also have to pay the park entry fee which is 5-10 AED! Ginnee it's really good for that age. it's all interactive and button-pressing etc. There's a section on nature, a section on space etc. A little cockpit of a plane. A water area. It's good value for money!! There's also a planetarium but check the website for timings! It's really good value and fab for the summer as it's so nice and cool inside. Oh, and a soft play area too!! You'll love it. Thank u, TB!

Get a paddling pool and a huge block of ice from the ice factory, One huge umbrella, and they will be happy for a few hours. watering cans etc. You are so creative cw! I'll think about this. Don't have either a pp or an umbrella and to be honest I think it's too hot to be outdoors despite a big block of ice. Out of curiosity, where would one aquire a large block of ice? edited by Ginnee on 24/07/2013

This causes me great concern too. This must affect people's decision as to whether they should assist someone in a life threatening situation. People might be too afraid to carry out CPR or help someone in need in fear that they might be sued. It makes me wonder now if someone I know or a loved one really needed help whether anyone would be willing to step forward to assist. To me this is really very scary, and explains some of the reluctance of people here to get involved when someone is in trouble. I don't know how old this law is, I can't see any good in it, but am open to hearing alternative views.

I mentioned another idea for this recipe on another thread. Cant remember exactly how it goes, as I was talking from the top of my head. Something like sprinkling cooked berries, like raspberries or sour bottled cherries. Mixing their syrup through the milk mixture to flavour it and sprinking flakes of white chocolate on top - after it's come out of the oven and cooled a bit. mmmm sounds good. Maybe some chopped macadamia nuts through it?

Stovetop - Would you mind sharing the quantities of hershey's chocolate and toffee sauce you used in your recipe variation? I'm not a confident cook so have no idea how to play it by ear with a recipe. Also, did you make the toffee sauce or was it store bought? Thanks. I used about 10 chopped up nuggets (the ones with the toffee almonds). Hershey's also do a bag of toffee chips for baking which I think will go great with this, but I was out of those. I randomly drizzled the toffee sauce. I make the sauce at home - I just caramelise some brown sugar, add a tablespoon of butter and then add cream to the mixture. I think the person who discovered that salt makes caramel better is a genius, so I add some sea salt. The sauce is my go-to quickie recipe for ice creams and random treats, but I don't keep the store bought toffee sauce at home because I'm tempted to drizzle it over almost everything. And we all know how much that helps the waistline :o BTW, am I the only one who can't see the post with my version? You cant see it? Strange

The thing that concerns me about this is - I want my maid to learn first aid, as she is caring for my daughters while I am at work. If she performs CPR on my girls (God forbid) and they die, will she be held liable automatically? Or only if I demand it? I would definately want her to perform CPR on them (as long as I know she has been trained) as this is so important, it can mean the difference between life and death. I wonder how I would find out.

Ginnee, that sounds like heaven! We lived near a strawberry farm back home, so when they were in season, we always had the most delicious berries (and don't even get me started on the strawberry ice cream!). I haven't had a decent strawberry since I moved here! Yeah, my parents grew strawberries when I was growing up in NZ. It was heaven. I love berries, but they're just too expensive here :(

It will go away but then the 2nd trimester back pain and the 3rd trimester heartburn will start. Don't mean to frighten you but there's so many different things that happen in different ways to different mommies but they do all subside eventually. And then once the pregnancy is over the new born sleep deprivation begins. :) Please don't take this the wrong way, just trying to make you smile! edited by Chi2dxb on 23/07/2013 haha chi2dxb.. and i thought bloating was just bad enough... sigh! Haha. I think the pregnancy and birth, even at their worst, are much easier than the long haul of sleepless nights. Then the terrible twos, the tantruming threes, the independant 4's, the list goes on!!

I hated the baking red hot summers of Qatar and wasn't even that keen on the lower temps of the winter which were still, for me, too warm. At least our Doha home had A/C and we could keep cool. Over the last few days, we have had high temps for the UK with no real escape as our British homes are not built for hot weather and sleeping at night has been difficult with the heat build up in our carpets and double glazed windows. I had to drive to my 81 year old mum's yesterday as she was distressed and couldn't get cool. She lives in a terraced split level house and it was like an oven, even with every window open. She couldn't sleep because she was too scared to go to bed with a window open as her bedroom faces the street. She doesn't really need to worry as she lives in a nice area but she is elderly and lives alone. I bought her a cooling electric fan which has helped a bit. I have been up since 6am as our home is still stuffy and warm from yesterday's 30 degrees temp and I had every upstairs window open all night. Your poor mum, I would be scared too to leave the windows open in this world we live in. In Australia we didn't have AC and I literally used to wet a tea-towel and wrap it over my shoulders or body at night. Having the fan directed on me, it really used to cool me down.

I was in france last week and the temp wasn't up to 31 during the day but down to 19 by 10pm. The latter was the best part of the day. I was just so hot at any other time - we didnt have ac's. Sleeping was difficult and not just because the windows didnt have fly screens and if you slept with them open you had finger sized things flying in for a visit in the night. I left my daughter and family there and my daughter told me today she went down with heat exhaustion the day before last and still isnt feeling too well. I know, people think going away on holiday is nice in summer, for us, it's Lebanon, but we're not doing it any longer as no one has or uses AC. I feel much hotter in the 30 degree heat in Lebanon that here in the 55 degree heat! Hope your daughter is feeling better soon, heat stroke is horrible and can be dangerous, tell her to drink plenty of water and even electrolytes if she can.

He also brought about3 kgs of peaches and plums.had a plum bake with cream for dessert tonight. The Syrian conflict has had a bad and good effect on Lebanon The farmers are suffering because their best produce all used to be exported via truck to the rest on the ME, but they've stopped as it's just not safe. But the good part is, the best produce is now left for the consumers in Lebanon. It's expensive (yes, for a lebanese, 3,000 Lira (9dhs) is considered expensive for cherries, believe it or not, they're usually about 3dhs per kilo), but worth it. My husband is going back this weekend for the first iftar with his family in 12 years and he's got specific orders to buy cherries, any berries (they have strawberries, but not sure about the rest), figs, peaches and I'll be thinking of more stuff!! Have to do more research about how to preserve them :) I read on the internet if you have a super strong blender you can slice the strawberries, freeze them, then blend them with whipping cream and a bit of sugar and in 5 mins you have ice cream. Will be trying that for sure! edited by Ginnee on 24/07/2013

Should I have used something else? I can always add some sugar next time. DH luvvved it :) Made too much just for 2 so cold Umm Ali tomorrow! Nestle invite people to submit recipes. Their own chefs test them out before adding them to their website. I did once write in to them about a recipe that did not work and the ingredients were way out of proportion and in hindsight quite obviously incorrect. Well, Nestle were mortified and they sent their 2 reps around to my house with a massive gift basket of lovely goodies. They really are a super company. That sounds like the calibre of a huge company, which they are. Nice to know.

How funny, a 'middle eastern' recipe using vanilla essence. This is quite similar to my recipe, apart for the omission of milk. Nestle has a fantasic assortment of Arabic recipes. You can search under Cuisine and find Levant and Arabian recipes. I've never tried them though, not sure how authentic they are.
