I managed to watch xtra factor and I tried bbc iplayer and that works too! It's just x factor that has disappeared altogether, it's not even in the listings!

i agree with pn. The first time I went blond I did it at home (teenager) and it was terrible. When I had more sense and more money I went to a stylist and I must say I looked fab!

He likes everything. I have a whole chicken in the freezer and lots of vegetables hanging around. I am thinking of just throwing it all together and putting it in the oven. And hoping it doesn't burn.

How is it faring for you non-fasting ladies of fasting men? I am finding it a little tough admittedly. I am trying to fast alongside my OH but I am having sips of water now and then. The no s3x is killing me. While breaking fast together seems to be bringing us closer, the lack of physical contact seems to be pushing us apart.

All week I didn't cook for my poor fasting OH. It was a blessing actually as I totally suck as a cook. Tonight I'm going to have to try and I don't know what to make that is easy and won't go wrong.

Tonight we're cooking a traditional Ozzie/English meal for a lebanese couple who are joining us for iftar. Dates, Jaleb and Vimto Pumpkin soup Stewed Oxtail Roasted potatoes, turnips, sweet potato, pumpkin, garlic, carrots and onions. A cherry tomato salad, with lemon juice, olive oil, garlic, parsley and chives I've made mars bar slice as I know they're bringing dessert, so this is to have with coffee Fruit platter with nectarines, mandarines, bananas, apples and the sweetest juiciest cherries from lebanon I've got Knefe on standby in case they dont bring dessert!! (you never know, got to be on the safe side) Lebanese coffee, nuts, maltesers, and shisha all night - of course!! edited by exile on 06/08/2011 edited by exile on 06/08/2011 Mmmmmm sounds fab!!!! Can I come?

I want to try to fast with my OH this year. We shall see how far I get! Good luck :) Thank you. His own self control is very weak so I have a terrible feeling that he will break all his resolutions unless I try to help him and not entice him!

I bought it from Ibn Batutta this weekend too. I've only used it once but I think I can feel the difference already.

I would move but to a place that is not as expensive as 85,000, so get your old lifestyle and your sleep back but don't spend as much money.

A similar thing happened to me in a JBR parking lot and I'm afraid to say that it was very easy to get off and cost less than 100 dhs extra (can't remember the exact amount) when I went to get my car washed at the gas station.

It appears that my post on my illegitimate feelings for my boss was removed. I wanted to say thank you to those who advised me to stay away and ignore it. I spent most of this week avoiding all small talk with my boss. The first day he noticed my coldness and asked me if anything was wrong. The second day again he kept looking at me in a quizzical manner. Today he barely glanced at me other than he asked me to do something. Not talking to him about non-work related matters has really helped and I am beginning to feel a lot better. OH and I have booked a romantic weekend away so I am hoping that rekindles some romance and further extinguishes the feelings I have for my boss. Thank you once again and have a lovely weekend :) edited by glamorgirl on 23/06/2011

We are going there next weekend for two nights and I am terribly excited at the prospect of getting out of Dubai for a few days. I have only been here three months but I do miss having a bit of peace and quiet. Is there anything to do in Ras al Khama itself or shall I just sit in the hotel. Is the hotel nice? Is the spa any good? Any advice would be much appreciated.

I second hypnosis. My OH was a heavy smoker and similarly disliked everything about smoking. For want of a better word he is quite 'weak' as he often succumbs to his desires (he's Moslem but cannot complete Ramadan fully and gives up near the end), he eats too much and in general as little control. Hypnosis has helped with many aspects of his life.

I will when I bump into him next! Unfortunately I don't have his contact details, just a 'hi' and 'bye' when we bump into each other at social gatherings but I will try!

I'm not saying it is great but it is possible and some are even happy with it. I had a cousin who came here from the UK for 11,000 dhs a month in 2009 and rents were sky high then and she was content and was getting paid more than what she was getting after tax in London.

I took the 12,000 dhs job and I paid for rent, car rental and had enough left to have fun with and even go on vacations and stuff. I think for a young, single person who wants the experience it is actually okay. It's not ideal but it's doable. Plenty of the other people in the company I worked for were getting something similar and some even less. Fresh graduates in the UK may not get more than 20,000 a year and that is before tax!

It also depends on the age bracket. Someone fresh out of College would be happy to accept that sort of deal, or with only a year or two experience. I was anyway. A couple of years after I finished college I moved here for a year before going to the UK for my Masters (2008) for 12,000 dhs, 4 weeks vacation, flights and no health. edited by glamorgirl on 23/05/2011

CP, how much is it? And for what? I have found 1270 for a one year lease - for a Chevrloet (sp) spark... That is very cheap. I looked when I moved here 2 months ago and didn't find anything that cheap but then I didn't look for a 1 year lease. When you consider that you don't have to pay for maintenence it is a good deal.

I really enjoyed it but thought it was too short. I felt like I needed more time to get to know the characters and emphasize and I kind of felt as if the 'climax' (don't want to spoil) was a bit rushed.

Pick up the kids, no. But I have been out in my night clothes before :s When I lived in NYC I used to go to my local convenience store with just a jacket over my pjs and sneakers all the time to grab a bottle and run back up!

I'm half Spanish, half Egyptian born in the UK, spent time in the US and then came back to the UK. Closer to my Egyptian side mainly because my cousins were close by when I grew up but also got to know my Spanish side when I moved to the US. One side, cousin marriages are fine (Egyptian), other side, not so fine!

It does depend a lot on various factors. My OH and I moved here as I was offered a position as an EA for AED 35k, and it's a local/government organisation. It may depend on educational background as well as I did go to an Ivy college and Oxbridge for my Masters.

Oooh I really wanna read this. I think I'll give the movie a miss until I've read the book. I've also heard that the movie isn't great. I would definitely recommend reading the book first, I just couldn't put it down and during those times when I had to put it down (kids needed feeding....;) ) I was thinking about the characters, the story .... just loved it edited by Stardust on 14/05/2011 Bought it today!
