Have you checked in mothercare and babyshop? No not as yet, just thought I'll check here first in case someone has seen them recently or is selling one. I was at the mall this afternoon and asked at MC, they said they don't do them here. Thanks MrsMopp! That was really nice of you to remember and check it for me. I'll see if I come by it..even a generic one would be fine. Otherwise will probably get the stroller wrapped up at the airport and have it checked in. Just that it would have been nice to take it to the gate as its a late night flight and DS would have been more comfortable in it than in the Ergo. <em>edited by Glitzi on 06/07/2011</em>

See this thread from earlier in the year. Also has a link to a page which can help you distinguish between genuine and fake. http://www.expatwoman.com/qatar/forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=143803 xx Thanks BFC, I was just going to reply here with a link to that thread. Although I already owned one at that time and was not looking at buying, I sent the seller a message asking her how come they were so cheap. The Seller replied -" I get them directly from the factory that is why they are cheap". Now ofcourse that couldn't be the Ergo.inc's factory!! Seller also mentioned that he/she had it in all the colours and if I wanted to come and have a look. So ladies please be careful when you buy second hand carriers. <em>edited by Glitzi on 06/07/2011</em>

It's funny I'm going through all the same questions as well. We are going to Thailand in less than 2 weeks and it's a 10 day trip so I was wondering about the crib and hygiene etc. Will definitely take my own sheets and sleeping bag and hope for the best! Also, am planning to take several jars/packs for feeding but am hoping I'll be able to get the hotel to steam carrots/potatoes etc as ideally I would prefer to give 1 if not 2 fresh meals as opposed to packaged. I figure mashed fruit for breakfast is easy enough and then steamed veg for lunch or dinner with one packaged meal in between. But I've decided not to worry about it too much as DD will only be 8 months old when we travel and gets most of her nutrition from bm and it's only a matter of 10 days (puts on brave face :) ) BTW we have decided to take our car seat along as in Dubai, Emirates does not provide car seats in their pick-up cars and in Thailand, we have a one hour drive to the resort in Phuket. Do you ladies normally travel with car seats?? Glitzi - if you find a good lightweight stroller, please do let me know - am debating whether I will realistically need one in Thailand. GQ, I was looking at buying a second hand one. So I've posted a thread here and even a Wanted ad on dubizzle for maclaren triumph or mothercare jive as they have recline and are under 6kgs in weight. Lets see if someone has one, otherwise will try and get one on Dss Sale. Love your tip on asking the hotel to steam carrots-potatoes. Now why dint I think of that! Thanks :)

Haha Glitzi, it sure is a whole new experience traveling with a baby!!! So much to think about. My next thought process is her food and formula... stock up for our whole trip or chance it and hope I can find some there? Oh how i wish they came with a little manual :D .The stroller and cots are still ok, but I am in complete panic code regarding the food. DS is formula fed and on Aptamil 2 so I am guessing that should be easy to find in most countries.. just in case, I'll carry a large tin. But the food is really a concern as until now I've only given him fresh purees and he has never had any packaged food. Hopefully by next month, if he is weaning stays on track, I'll be able to start him on some real food. That way we can order in restaurants and let him have some..but then I am wondering about the salt intake :(

Shelly, I've got the same problem. We have a short trip to europe planned in August and having difficulty deciding whether we should carry our graco travel cot or not (I think its around 11 kgs) for 8 months old DS. I have checked with the hotel and they are providing a travel cot but was wondering the same hygiene issue. But after reading most replies here, I think it should be fine...i'll probably not carry mine now and just take some bedding. The planning to be done when travelling with a baby is unbelievable- never ending list! I'm also looking into buying a light weight stroller which will be easy to travel with and yes the travel blinds are a must..considering the sunsets can be very late.

If I remember correctly I had seen the sophie soft toy gift sets listed on souq.com few weeks back. I had bought a similar one from a lovely lady on EW last year for my DS...and he loves the soft toy. At that time sophie was not available anywhere in dubai. Otherwise it is much better to buy via Amazon..way cheaper. <em>edited by Glitzi on 28/06/2011</em>

My hero for help with babies sleeping/feeding etc is Gina Ford of "The contented little Baby Book" fame. I believe she is well known in the Uk, but I was put onto her when I moved from Sth Africa to Singapore with our "impossible" new born daughter - this book saved my life, and now with number 3 (2 months old) on her system, we are all sane and doing well. not much help immediately, but recommend her books Good luck getting it sorted Completely second that... I have followed it since my son was 6 weeks old would have gone insane without it :) Although I also believe that her routines might not be for everyone even then I would recommend reading her sleep guide or contented little baby book. There is much more to her methods than "Cry it out" for which she is known. You dont have to follow her routines but just understanding her basic idea behind the routines could be used as general guide. Her book might help you understand the possible reasons your daughter could be waking up...maybe too much daytime sleep. not enough solids, or not enough solids at the right time of the day..etc Actually MomOfTwins has posted an excellent reply, I dont know if she follows Gina but those would be the exact same questions I would be asking myself, if my DS would start waking up in the night.

Just like everyone said, we all have been there and really understand how isolated the initial days can be...One thing that helped me was to realize that most mums I saw around were going through the same feelings and sometimes I've just got to make the first move and say hello to another mom with a stroller when you take your little one for a walk or around play areas...and before she knows she'll make some new friends. Her baby is a little small and its quite hot outside but if she does take him/her for early morning walks to a park or around the building/community she could give it a try. Also as already suggested going for Expat mums and babes would surely cheer her up. Maybe you should ask her to join EW and start posting, sometimes thats all you need..the lovely ladies here could never let her feel isolated :)

Not super light but I would recommend Ergo. Its been fantastic for our little one and I know plenty of people who have toddlers, swear by it. But just a word of caution, mentioning this just in case anyone planning to buy Ergo is reading this..please be very careful in case you are deciding to buy a used one from Dubizzle. There are people selling fake Ergo's in original box with instruction manual etc.

My 4 month old DD has been teething for a while now but seems to be more unsettled and not finishing her bottles. Someone recommended teething powders. Where can you buy them and how do you use them? Any other solutions to help comfort her? I have been told that there is a homeopathic medicine, Calcarea phosphorica that is great for teething. DS is also 4 months and seems like he is teething , so I've also been checking. But really dont know where we can buy homeopathic medicines in Dubai, will let you know if I find it. <em>edited by Glitzi on 09/04/2011</em>

Sorry to highjack but I found this website that explains how each med works. I couldn't find which one was milder but it sounds like each one interacts with the stomach acid differently. So it will depend how the stomach acid is produced in your LO and if it rises up to their throat or sits in their stomach. You have to remember it will take a few days to kick in before you know if it works. http://www.cryingoverspiltmilk.co.nz/MedicalTreatment/MedicationwithDosages.htm Thats a great link srdoucet and I am sure it'll help Shaf..I remember reading this site & it has very useful info.

Not sure but I think Gaviscon is milder and Personally I would not give Zantac without a doc prescription. Gaviscon is more like a thickening agent and helps to keep the milk down.

Shaf, it could be reflux. Infant Acid Reflux often goes undiagnosed as many think it is colic. Reflux babies also have a lot of abdominal wind and have symptoms that are very similar to colic. DS had silent reflux from when he was 4 weeks old. Initially we thought it was colic and did the usual infacol/gripe water etc.But that really did not help and he was always crying and so distressed. Later he was diagnosed with reflux and the irritability is because of the acid from their stomach travelling up and causing the pain & burning sensation :(. He was on infant gaviscon and it worked really well. Simple things like elevating his cot mattress and keeping him upright for 30 mins after each feed also helped. His reflux lasted until he was about 10 weeks and now its all fine. Maybe you already know about this but just thought will share our experience as we initially wasted some time thinking its colic. HTH

Thanks girls! Yes I know how to use them, and am quite sure I'm in Ketosis but would be a nice motivator if I could get hold of the strips to track how much and how it varies. Glitzi, do you happen to remember in which pharmacy you got them? i've been to those in Dubai Mall and none had them... Thanks again :-) Oh it was such a long time back but I think I bought them at the life pharmacy sh zayed rd. Best to follow Helsbells Spinney's lead. And yes they are such a motivator..hope you find them soon! Best of luck with Atkins :)

Have recently started the Atkins diet and would like to be able to test whether I'm in Ketosis, these are normally used by either low carb dieters, diabetics or epileptics. Does anyone happen to know where I can get them? I used these strips before and if i remember correctly they were by AcuCheck and I think they had ketones/Glucose written on them (White cylindrical tube like box)...but just to be sure you could ask the pharmacist They are available at most pharmacies and have a pink to purple shade chart to match it with the colour on the strip you get..and it tells you the level of ketosis. Pink is low and deep purple means you are at a high level of ketosis...& when you are on Atkins, thats the colour that makes you smile :) HTH

Yes but use it mostly for travelling - they can look a bit unsightly from the outside as they dont always stick flush to the window surface depending on the size of the window.. very good though... Thanks Jem Jar,nice to hear another good review! If I got another baby product that seemed to be a good concept and later sat collecting dust in the house.. DH will surely kill me ;)

Hi Glitzi I use one for my son's room and for travelling and it is great. Really recommend it. Probably one of my more useful buys! Thats so nice to hear redleaf :)..I really like the concept too! On amazon some of the reviews said that the suction cups are very poor quality that is why I was a bit concerned.. But its great to know that you are so happy with it. <em>edited by Glitzi on 25/03/2011</em>
