Hey, Sorry about this experience. I know it's very frustrating as this is a very important phase in our life and we want it documented well. I had my maternity and newborn shots taken by a photographer. She was very open to suggestions and even shot to accommodate my preferences. She herself is very creative and understands the needs if her client very well. Maybe the "newborn photography" window has passed for you if your baby is over a week old but you can consider doing a 15 day or month old birthday photography session (I did one for my baby). Take care...and don't worry. You will have plenty of opportunities to get great pictures.

I am looking for some fun activities for my 9 month old boy as well. I heard about the Little gym at IBN Battuta and one on Jumeirah Beach Road. I was wondering if anybody's had experience with that. Would love to hear. Thanks!

Really....I thought you were supposed to sterlize bottles for the first year. I meant sterlizing while on holiday. At home, I use the microwave sterlilizer. A friend in US had mentioned that you get these bags, medela brand (look a lot like ziplocks); you pretty much put your bottles in those and sterlize in the microwave. Of course, I havent come across such bags in UAE.

Guys, My 6.5 month old has started his solids. So far, I am serving him pureed vegetables and fruits. I was thinking of trying out the store brought ones as they would be handy while traveling. Any suggestions on which brands to opt for? Which baby yougurt is recommended? Also, where do you buy it from? Thanks.

Lovingwife, I had an anxiety problem as well and was hesitant to go through an internal scan at 6 weeks. However, the nurse/technician really comforted me, helped me relax and used lots of lubrication before she inserted the probe. I must admit it wasnt bad at all. DO talk to your technician, tell her you have an anxiety issue...apparently they face many women like us and know how to deal with us:) I agree that you do not need internal scans and the baby's heartbeat can be traced on a regular ultrasound from 8 weeks onwards. However, based on my experience, I would say that just go ahead with it confidently. At the end of 9 months, you will have to push a baby out (which I promise isn't as bad as most of our anxious types believe) and these small internal scans will get you confident about the final deal. Trust me. Good luck!

I just delivered in Dec 2012. Thank advanced science for the miracle of epidural. I did feel a little uncomfortable a few minutes after it was administered to me...my one leg felt number than the other and it bothered me to no end.....but an hour later, I was fine. I was reading "The Life Of Pi" and whatsapping away with friends till about half an hour before my baby arrived. Thanks to the epidural, I did not even realize the pain of the episiotomy that I had. Thankfully, there have been no side effects as well (so far). I would vouch for it. Good Luck!!!

Thanks for the replies. My baby has an acid reflux issue as well. He makes a lot of wheezy noises from the throat and it gives me a sense that he is really uncomfortable to the extent that he doesnt even take enough feeds even though he seems so hungry. He takes only about 120 ml every 3.5-4 hours:(

Thank you for the encouragement ladies. Feels good to hear that I may not have supply issues after all. It's just that after seeing my baby go through the phototherapy session due to jaundice, I have started judging my supply even more. I don't want to see him go through that again and hence I make sure I express or provide formula to top up so I know that he is getting enough nutrition. It's only since 3 days that the yellow pigmentation has disappeared from his skin and he appears healthier. I have put him at my breast but he is never satiated even after 40-50 minutes and I have to top-up. As you all advised, I am going to see a good lactation consultant as I do want to exclusively breastfeed if it works. Thanks a lot!

I am substituting a couple of my baby's feeds with formula. I tried the S-26 (Wyeth) and Nan. Somehow I felt that nan makes the baby gassy and he is not even satiated with it. Which formula brand has worked best for you?

Hey guys, i need to see a lactation consultant regarding low breast milk supply and lactation techniques. I delivered at City Hospital, so know about Samira's services there and a lot of friends have recommended Cecile De Scally. Has anyone seen either of them? Do share your experience? Thank you.

I just delivered at the City Hospital 15 days ago. I had a fantastic experience. The doctor, midwives and the nurses were excellent. I had Dr. Elsa. She is pro natural birth and helped me through a lot of complications. thanks to her, I had my baby normally. However, it is very difficult to get an appointment with her...so please call as soon as possible. I have heard that Dr.Britt is also really good. The first pregnancy is always special. Enjoy the experience. Good luck!!!

Hey friends,, I am looking for help. My baby turned 15 days old today. I had always wanted to exclusively breastfeed but I am not getting enough milk supply. Due to improper feeds in the first couple of days (which I did not realize), baby ended up with dehydration and jaundice. Since then, I have been expressing (so I know the exact amount) and supplementing with formula as well. I had hoped it would be a temporary situation till my milk supply is established, but to no avail. When I pump, I gather no more than 50 ml (sometimes even lesser). Has anybody else experienced this? Any suggestions? Thanks a lot in advance.

Congratulations:) I would recommend either Dr. Raj at AH or Dr. Elsa at City Hospital. Both are fabulous and come very well recommended. I would suggest you pick your doctor based on the hospital that your insurance would cover. Both the ladies are fantastic, just go with the place where u don't have to deal with claiming insurance and waiting for ages for the checque to arrive. You will anyways have quite a few things to follow up and worry about in your pregnancy, insurance issues should be the last on your mind. That's my take. Good luck!

Hey friends, I am expecting my baby in a few weeks. I want to make sure we take care of all the official documentation as soon as possible. Please guide me along the steps: - Get the Arabic & English birth certificate - Apply for the Indian passport - Now, what documents are needed to apply for residency visa? Where can I apply for it? Is there anything else that I am missing out? Do let me know. Thanks!

I would go with prune juice as well. It's completely natural and works wonders. With other laxatives, you have to be very careful about the duration you use them and consistently keep an eye out for side effects. Besdies...believe it or not, I know a few kids who actually like the prune juice taste.

Apart from the fact that Dr. Elsa is already a part of City, another factor that motivated me to go to her was the fact that I wouldnt have to deal with the insurance claims. Do go to Dr. George for your NT sacn, your 20 week sacn and Doppler Scan at 7th month. Dr. Elsa recommends him for that as well:) Goodluck!

Good luck for the procedure Jinnbaby. I was sedated and pretty much in a deep slumber when they carried out the procedure. I have no idea what happened...it was all done when I opened my eyes in the recovery room:) The doctor will tell you how many eggs he recovered. However, as I mentioned earlier, you might feel a slight discomfort for a few days (sometimes a couple of weeks)...but nothing to worry about. Should not hamper your daily routine. Just rest it out for a day or two. The doctor will decide whether he will do a 3 day or 5 day transfer and let you know in a couple of days as to how many eggs actually fertilized. Then you, your husband along with the doctor's consultation will decide as to how many embryos u want to plant and whether or not you want to freeze the remaining ones. Once that is sorted out, the embryos will be planted in and then you have to wait for 2-3 weeks before you can take the test and hope for the desired result. Good luck my friend:) It will all go as you desire.

You will have to take all your blood test results, scan results and any other medical test results to the new doctor. Your old doctor's office will give you the documents without any hassles....shouldn't be a problem at all.

I thought of Global Village as well. However, is it any good this year? I wasn't here last year and did not hear much favorable things about it from friends? I don't want to drive up all the way there and then kinda disappoint them.

There is probably not much more you can learn from a childbirth class that you won't find access to in books or online. However, I really recommend taking a class as it builds up confidence. You can have all your questioned answered by a registered professional and it really prepares you for childbirth as well as the baby. In my case, it also alleviated some of the exaggerated fears I had about labor pain. Best of all, it is a great experience that you and your husband can learn from together. It is highly unlikely that men take the initiative to go and read up material on the net. They get a good understanding of the process in a childbirth class and they can learn their role as a supporter/partner during labor better.

Jinnbaby, talk to your doctor about it. I did not have any pain before the egg retrieval, but every person and case is different. However, be prepared for some discomfort after the egg retrieval.

mnadir, I would suggest you to take a maternity tour of both the places before you make up your mind. City does one at 11 and one at 4 every Friday. Do call American and find out their timings. They show you the facilities (labor room, antenatal room, etc.) and answer any questions you have. It's worth taking a walk and making up your mind after that. Goodluck!

T85, I just made sure I ate healthy (I am vegetarian) and did not worry too much about anything. The injections that you take are pretty much going to do the job. I would ask you to completely refrain from alcohol and smoking. Do cut down your caffeine intake if it is excessive; a cup a day will do no harm. Most importantly, be positive and relax. It will help you a lot.

Thank you so much for the responses. I have ordered the Bugaboo bee plus and will use the maxi cosi car seat with it. The only problem is that I will have to wait for 5 weeks (2 weeks past my due date) for the stroller to arrive; it's out of stock in Dubai:( Meanwhile, a friend in US also recommended that she could buy and send me the Baby jogger City Mini. She has it and loves it...I am confused; should I just ask her to send it and cancel my Bugaboo order???

They are both excellent. I have seen both of them but I went with Dr. Elsa just because she is a part of City Hospital where I plan to deliver. Also, Elsa has spent more time in Dubai than Dr. George. I would ask you to visit both and then make up your mind, though I guarantee it will be a difficult choice. Goodluck!

Medic still does those tests but the most recommended institutes and doctors therein are: Dr. Mirza at Fetal Medicine Center & Dr. George at n9ne Medical Center. Apart from the thorough screening, you are guaranteed a very high quality clear picture there;) i.e. if the baby cooperates:)

Cosmogirl, First of all, please narrow down on the hospital/clinic in Dubai that you would like to deliver and start seeing a recommended doctor there. In case you decide to give birth in Dubai, this should streamline the process of you. Most doctors in hospitals are very busy and it will be a while before you get an appointment with them. Also, some won't take in a new patient after you have finished 28 weeks. You just don't want to take that chance. You can start seeing the doctor while you make up your mind on delivering in Dubai or UK. Folic acid and Omega Supplements are great. See if your Omega supps contain DHA, else switch to prenatal DHA supplements. Please include prenatal multivitamins as well. I used Pregnacare; had a good combination of vitamins+folic acid. Once you are around 20 weeks, the doctor might put you on Calcium and iron supplements as well. Goodluck!

I am all in for a lightweight stroller system which is easy to manouver. Where did you guys get these products from? Do let me know. Thanks!

Hey guys, I would really recommend Dr.Mohammed at DGFC. He put me and my husband completely at ease during our first appointment and explained our options. Once we were ready with the IVF, he and his team did a great job in making the process as smooth as possible. Thanks to their efforts, I am expecting my first baby in Dec. Cannot thank him and his team enough.
