No this isn't a last man standing or waiting until someone blinks and verbal or email - neither is worth the paper it's written on until there IS a letter of offer or intent with a signature on it. Tell her to take the job in London - if they're playing silly bug gers with her now before she arrives, it's not going to get better if she ever gets here at all She was given an offer letter before salary negotiations with an expected range of salary in the letter. She has been assured by her department head that they want her and are excited for her to join.

for my husbands relatives who only seem to have 8 yr old girls I always buy science kits/beading sets (educational activities) and then with whats left over of my budget i buy smaller trinkets like hair clips or charms.

i know there are products like this: http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=hair+color+stripper&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=13553569730552444294&ei=IZxGTZTGFoqWhQfOweGdAg&sa=X&oi=product_catalog_result&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CB4Q8wIwAA# but you could also just go to the salon and they could strip it for you, lighten/tone it.

Hi, I'm also Scottish, moved here 3 months ago from East Lothian and also lived here for a bit in 2008. It is a bit of a shock weather wise thats for sure and it takes a while to settle in and meet friends but you'll get there in the end. I find it hard meeting mums my age (27) but as you are pregnant it might be easier for you. I had my little boy here in 2009 and the medical care etc was excellant! Just get yourself out and about and you'll meet some lovely people. Drop me a line if you want to chat or ask anything, be happy to help. sjonesathotmaildotcom in my 4 yrs in London, I have never run into anyone close to my age with a baby. I'm excited to run into people my own age with rugrats :) !

hi Lad! I'm moving to Dubai from London (but I'm originally American) I'm a mommy and I'm around your age (26)! I think we'll be most likely looking to live in the Marina area too, but still not sure. Definitely in the New Dubai area. Welcome and CONGRATULATIONS!

it might be a dangerous suggestion, but i figured that if i encountered the 'change' in the uae i would start popping the mini pill + the progesterone cream. I seem to recall reading on another thread that you are only 26 years old, I hope you have a few more decades until you are even approaching menopause!!!! x With the way everything turns out in my life, I have to pre-plan every last detail so *I* don't get looked over.

Eden Prairie, MN Columbia/Ellicott City, MD Newton, MA Bellevue, WA McKinney, TX See the top 100 Fort Collins, CO Overland Park, KS Fishers, IN Ames, IA Rogers, AR Apparently these are the top 10 places to live in the states with family! Can the Americans on here say out of these which ones really are good places? Although, I'm from Texas (where my parents settled last) I grew up in Columbia, Maryland and it was fantastic. I always think that I'm doing my son an injustice by not raising him there. The schools are good, the community is tight, and the quality of jobs+benefits are good too. I grew up in a very diverse and academically wealthy school system and I had opportunities in high school that most college students don't get. I really feel that my education was far better than my younger sisters (who went to school in Houston). Columbia itself is a very pretty town, and very friendly. I can't speak highly enough!

Wow GGP.... and I thought my parents were hardcore when I was growing up!! Don't you think the 'safe' texts every 2 hours, taxis being booked in front of you, wristlets etc are a bit extreme? I mean, imagine having to wear your purse on your wrist! How unfashionable is that! What if you want something bigger to keep your makeup bag/phone/camera/organiser/book or whatever in?? Your sisters are 18 and 19 after all - not 13 and 14! Unless you've had some bad experiences with them where they've taken advantage and taken the p1ss. In that case, why not lol. You should be their defense lawyer! Sadly though, my house my rules.

vjdubai, I lost both my parents in a car accident in May. I then became guardian to my three younger sibling (while having a lo+husband of my own) and I can honestly say it hasn't gotten better. My friends--what ever friendships I had made in London, no one really cared much. They just backed off and txt me to see if I wana go party yet. (Which I can't because Now I have to watch over my younger sisters and keep a watchful eye on my very emotional younger brother who thinks he's found his soul mate. (consequently, he thinks we need to sell our parents house to divide up the money from the proceeds so he can get married--he's 22 and totally incompetent!) One of my sisters is doing quite well, going to Uni and making friends. Other sister is withdrawn and going to therapy, she generally has to be with DS to go out and hyperventilates over the idea of long car trips...and I'm just trying to keep it all together. It sucks, and I know how you feel. As much grief as my siblings are in, I feel like someone really should ask me if I'm doing okay...but of course no one does because I don't really have the choice, do I? I want to sit down, and tell someone how much I need my life back, but I'm pretty sure if it was up to everyone else in my family, no one would have chosen this outcome either. I'm sorry for your loss and I hope you find a good kind friend to help support you and help you find comfort. And if you wana make friends with me, I'd be more than happy to have a companion to walk through this. xx

the inner tubes of P&Ts are actually a standard size and so any good bike shop with have them. ;) GGP, get anything you can in the UK before you come over - packing light is all very well and good, but on P&T bits, it's twice the price over here... alright, that sounds sensible. let me know if there is anything i should pick up for any of you guys (with regards to phil and ted bits). Honestly, if you're shipping your stuff over, fill an entire box with wet-wipes, sugar-free calpol, the nappies you like, everything. Wet-wipes are about £2.50-£3 for a pack of 80, sugar-free medicine of any kind, you just can't get and nappies are just extortionate and poor quality (although I am happy with a brand here, but not a patch on Tesco's or Nature's Baby!). Hoover up summer clothes to last the next year for your kids, buy crocs from SportsDirect in the next couple of sizes up... if you do all that, no kidding, you'll be saving yourself a few hundred quid. thanks, will do!

I am absolutely not a doctor. (which is why i said it could be dangerous) my mom did it though and it worked well for her---and she was a doctor. but again, she may have done her own hormone checks/blood tests and figured she could wing it that way.

Not yet...have looked at several but haven't found the right one with the right price yet. I'm patient and trust that my loft will be found when it's ready! :) We've been in the same spot for over 3 years and have loved it, but need more space. I'm on a month-to-month until that happens, thankfully with a wonderful landlord that has appreciated a good tenant. If / when we leave here I'll help him lease this place. ...let me know where you find one! I'm really stuck for property these days.

Do you have any idea how much money it would take to furnish an entire al barari villa? You can furnish "any" 3 bed villa in Dubai starting from AED50.000 up to AED50.000.00 including the pomposity! no no, the pomposity comes free.

Hey Anneke, I'm moving to AR and will be there March 5th. I'm in the states right now and will be shipping our lab Bella to Dubai. I have a four year old that will start school and have a two year old. I love to meet up with ladies and shop or have lunch. I don't drink coffee but that doesn't keep me from meeting up with other ladies for a drink of something else. I have a two year old too!

Yeah, every time I mention AD and living there he just looks depressed about having to have the 'talk' again. I get it. We're still youngish and we've spent the last two years growing up a lot quicker than we anticipated--and now he wants to have young family fun without the burden of interfering family members in our tiny London home. We barely know any married couples right now, let alone anyone else with kids. Which is why he's soo excited about Dubai.

I'm glad I'm not the only person still dealing with Moving details. I feel like I'm never going to be able to relax again. How much should I estimate on total furniture costs if I do a medium sized Villa (4-5 bedrooms?)[/quote Look at Al Barari, AR, The Villa and Dubai Silicon Oasis for nicer villas in Dubai land. A lot depends on schools and the work commute. The rents in these areas are anything from 100 K to 00000000000000000 K for a property with lots of choice. so, DH is going to be commuting to AD. I've told him it's probably a better idea to live in AD (but he says he can't stand the thought of living there--there are more chances of us making friends and having a good time in Dubai). The Al Bararis start at 350k, no? Thats at the max of our budget, and I'm not sure I should feel comfortable pushing that far...although I am severely tempted.

Texans are taking over the world. One country at a time. ;) yay! once a month i get really hormotional and miss Texans. I'm looking forward to running into you guys. Just hearing you talk will make me feel better. (creepy, eh?). I've lived in London for 4 years, and even though I live close to the American School, I don't hear many Texan accents. Everyone always seems to be from NJ. I haven't decided if I want to pick up a faux Brittish accent or Austrailian accent when I get to Dubai. I figure it worked for Madonna when she was married to Guy Ritchie. LOL Either way, I'll never stop say y'all and fixin' to. Oh NO! Our accent's make us who we are! I love my accent, and deep down I hope my son decides to adopt it (although, he's a born and raised British and my DH is British). I think though so far, my son has an American-ish accent.

GGP, I think if your looking for great bathrooms and kitchen then you need to try and find somewhere that the owner has lived in and renovated. I saw a few when I was looking that were really great, and the owners were being relocated so having to rent their house out. If you have a good budget, I would look at hattans either in EL or AR, or any of the bigger villas in AR... there are some nice houses, usually they get rented as soon as they go on the market if they are really lovely so you have to be ready to move fast once you find the one you want! Good Luck! Thanks! I never thought of that. Will look in that direction as well.

It looks decent enough. I've never been inside, but it's been open for the past 2+ years. The pool is a bit pants though (you can see it from JBR Plaza). From Dubizzle, it seems quite expensive for a 2 bed (130k?!), considering that you can get a 2 bed elsewhere from 80k to 120k... still, if the finishes and overall quality is worth it to the tenant, then who's to quibble. You're right close to a bus stop there too. I'm just getting soo nervous. i was in dubai the week of the 17th and our relocation guy wasn't very helpful. we have a strong budget, but i'm looking for a very high spec kitchen and bathrooms, but i can be flexible on almost everything else. i don't know where the best place to look is still because it all looked the same to me (everything just buzzed by and i'm confused). at the end of the day though, i have a feeling we'll end up trying to find something at AR or The Villa. I can't say I've ever seen what I'd call a high-spec kitchen here, sadly. They seem to think the be all and end all is a black granite worktop... never mind if it's stuck in a cupboard! The same goes for bathrooms. I've got a jacuzzi and separate shower in mine, which sounds fab on paper but in reality the whole bathroom is so badly planned that well, it beggars belief! Quite how you get an awkward pinch-point in a bathroom that's bigger than most single bedrooms in the UK is beyond me! The workmanship across the board is poor too, but that's pretty much everywhere. The best advice is to go and view these places. If you have a large budget, then that's great, but adjust your expectations to what's on offer. A lot looks swish, but when you look closer, there are bits an bobs that don't quite fit the "luxury apartment" bill. Still, I'm in the Marina and really like it. I think we have narrowed down our areas to New Dubai, Marina and Dubailand. I hope that the 6 weeks we have in temp accommodations we'll be able to find a place we're happy with. Or maybe I'll just go crazy and stay in a serviced apartment forever.
