Where is the problem? You send her home, put a ban, and you move on. edited by Monkey Face on 16/04/2012 do you mean you ban her just because she doesn't want to work for you anymore? frankly thats just evil. Or do you mean you'd ban her if you caught her working for other people while still sponsored by you, in which case I'd guess it would be harsh but fair enough. OP the real question is why do people let their maids work part-time, at no benefit to themselves and at the very real risk of prosecution. The reason people hire these maids is its cheaper, easier, ethicially feels better (the maid gets the money instead of the pittance an agency would pay her) and if its the maid of a friend in your compound you can figure the chance of being caught is very very low and the chance of them stealing from you is also low. I'd feel much more comfortable borrowing a friends maid or teenager to babysit for me than hiring a stranger who my child had never met. In this part of the world people break the law all the time, running small businesses from home (selling jewellery, making cakes, taking portrait photos, providing breastfeeding help etc), are you ok with purchasing from these people at craft fairs etc or do you object to that too? In Doha where I live its also illegal to serve a glass of wine to a guest in your own home, take drinks around to a BBQ and water the garden or hose down the outdoor furniture with your tap water, not sure if that is also the case in Dubai too? Anyway yes people get caught, I know a maid who spent a month in jail after being caught and there are fines which are quite substantial. I'd be reluctant to let my maid work for others if I sponsored one. Its a shame its not legal though, not everybody needs a full time maid and it would be nice if those maids could make a little extra money without fear of jail time. On human rights yes, they have the right to work for any body, On the other hand; the UAE low fines both, the one who hire illegal maid, and the sponsor of the maid, plus the maid will be deported and black listed.... I guess this sums the issue.

Ladies, I’m on a hunt for a REASONABLY priced mani/pedi, preferably in the Downtown area or nearby. Back in the day (2008) Lily Pond used to be super cheap for a mani/pedi. Then it closed :( Now prices seem to have skyrocketed. Nail Spa Dubai Mall is now 170!! Brush and Co is 130 but you need to book about two weeks in advance….I don’t drive so by the time I’ve factored in taxis further afield, I might as well stick to Nail Spa. Call me old-fashioned but 170 seems a lot to pay. If anyone has any great tips for reasonably priced mani/pedis, I’d be most grateful! Thanks in advance as always….K :) why don't you try doing it yourself? i'm telling this, as I become more comfortable about myself, after I started doing every thing by myself, mani, badi, waxing, hair styling.....and so on.....I do go to hair dresser for hair cuts and massive hair coloring changes, otherwise I do it my self, couldn't believe the money I had saved and used it for something else, new bag and shoes, cloths...... Just give it a though?

I have nothing to add above what all the ladies had advised, but think about it; are you going to accept another maid had been saked of her last job for steeling from her employer? I wouldn't accept a thief inside my home, why should you accept it to someone else? Once I was working in the airport and happened that my mobile - it was a gift from my DH for our first child - it was brand new, then it had stolen from my bag, I was angry that DH gift been nipped from me, plus the photos of me and my family and extended family, that was infuriated me more that my memories in the hands of someone else, who knows what will happen?! after 10 days of reporting the theft, the police found the phone, after it was reaching the third party of selling stolen phones in Dubai, the primary thief was a girl whom I used to know - thought I do know - she was one of whom work in the special services whom push the wheel chairs, she stolen the phone, then gave it to her boyfriend, the boy friend sold it to another friend, then the friend sold it to a phone shop, and the phone shop wanted to re sell it........ long story I know, but not filling a police report will encourage her more to steel hard earning money from other ppl so she can gift it to her boyfriend. and God only knows where she will reach.....the fact that she claimed that the phone was thrown on the floor and she didn't know who was the owner is a lie, as 20 min from the theft I noticed it, and went to the police - it was the office next door by the way - the police officer tried to call my phone, it was ringing, then someone picked it up, the officer heard the key board typing, that's why he said it's someone working in the airport who stolen it....... and the fact that my photos was all over the phone, with a photo of me and DH was the wall paper of it, she shouldn't lie about how did she got the phone...... so you will always hear the sobbing stories about how they become thieves and why they did it to support her orphaned children back home, and her blind mum and sick father...... don't fall for their sob stories, they know their job and what they should do in their job, steeling is not accepted by any way, the only steeling I can understand is steeling food so you won't starve to death. call the police, let her get the consequences of her actions. and have you prove ready - the one you know she is a thief by it. Good luck P.S. don't feel guilty as you did not told her to steel, she is the one who did it. edited by Gorobattie on 15/04/2012

used to work to a semi government company, maternity leave is paid 45 days after completing one year, and entitled to 100 unpaid maternity leave - this one you can take then consecutive or not consecutive - the catch is that you have to inform your company that you will take the unpaid maternity leave before the end of your paid maternity leave. if you failed obtaining the unpaid maternity leave after the end of your paid maternity leave, the company have the right to end your residency and terminate your employment with them. the unpaid maternity leave would be taken only after the paid maternity leave, by obtaining medical certificate that states that your medical condition is resulted of the delivery. HTH ETA I did this but didn't take the whole 100 days, just took 28 days. edited by Gorobattie on 10/04/2012

I get the feeling the "Auntie" is really a boyfriend. If you let her go, I would say just one night a week and let they be her day off. But tell her she needs to make sure she is back in time to start her work day , or else you'll have to dock her pay. I just let a maid go after just 2 weeks living in. I thought it would be a good thing that her mom and husband also worked nearby. Then her mom fell and needed to go to the Dr. So my maid Worked only half day and then we didn't see her till the next day... Then she asked for a cash advance to pay for her moms medical. Also, within the 2 weeks ( and during the work day) I would look toward her room and see here husband sitting in there- didn't even know he was in our house!! Just too much. As they say, you give an inch... errrrm! sorry to say, but you are letting her go over the line without telling her where are her boarders! what she do in her time is her, but working half day and not showing up for work is not good at all, that give her the courage to let someone "stranger" into your house without your permission, yes he is her husband in her home, yes it's her room in your "house" so her husband HAVE to visit her with your permission, NOT when ever she wants Ladies Man up and do not let your employees run your house.

why don't you ask her whom her family over her in UAE, with contacts - such as tel and addresses and sure names - as a good practice, like when your company wanted to know your next of ken in UAE and outside, this way you know this aunt is real or just someone happened to be from her village. This is always a good practice to know whom exactly you are dealing with. Like other posters said, let her go to here family, after all she does want to feel home with someone does speak her language and family. I let my employee do this, as it's a breather for her and me in the same time.

Why you women are so judgmental? I believe women have the right to work or stay at home, hiring a nanny or not....this is totally not anybody business but the parents only. why someone *Think* she have the right to say you stay at home do not work and do not have a maid to take care of your children? this type of posts/comments just irritates me, why not the same question not been asked to men? I mean: walk up! it's not anybody business to tell another one what he/she should do in this matter.

Well I can write a book about my laundry room water leaking from the ceiling ... the air con feeding 2 bedrooms plus the maid room doesn't work, or water leaks all the time.... they swing from one state to the other every 2 or 3 weeks, every time I call Imdaad and they come and change a piece or a part, then it start again, no one will tell you what is really happening if they understand arabic or english..... don't get me start on this.

As a general rule, there will be no way to stay with a strange man, in a bed room with lights off....any body in the world knows what is this all about, being from bangladesh or mars it's all the same. Can I say this girl/woman is pushing her luck so far? she thinks she can get the old man to marry her? I will never know, but what I know that in Bangladesh they are so restrict that they have gender segregation, her actions shows she is up to no good. This is my own opinion, if it was me, I will not go into her visa and tell her to start looking for job as I do not need a maid at the moment, and can manage doing it without a maid, don't give her recommendation as well. I had hired maids, and one she used to say this is not her job, I told her will I did not advertise for a CEO job then gave you a maid job, she was on her husbands visa, and I already started the process of her residency, thank god the situation had happened before her visa was granted. my only advice for you is get red of her, she is nothing but trouble, the more you ignore, the worse it will go. May I say that you hired her for the wrong reasons? you hired her as an act of petty, NOT because you need a maid. helping people could be achieved by giving them advices how to find a job even go further and get her some ads on jobs match her qualifications, but you had done a wrong act and unfortunately had backfired on you, this not your fault, it's her.......

Could I switch off the children's mouth?!!! oh no it's electric devices only.....mmm still can I switch off the children's demands? and how if any have any success story? :) Go, on.. switch off your lights .... and we'll sneak in your house for another party :D I mean it is to celebrate Earth Hour, afterall... ;) LOL! :D that reminded me of something happened to me on wednesday this week, I was invited to a seminar in Knowledge village, it was in the evening, so after arriving, asked the security man where is the conference room, then he told me in 1Floor, and there is the left, the lights in the left for some reason were not working, in that moment a man - he is not bad really - just entered the left and was surprised that the lights aren't working, then security man offered me to not take this left and wait for it to come back empty.....I was late so had to go..... anyway once the left doors closed, it went pitch black, then felt the dude is being restless and started talking nervous words that he didn't expect the lights to be not working and like so..... I don't know why I told him not to seize the moment and kiss me in the dark......he started laughing, and before any words he can think of, the left reached the floor we want, and then he took a careful look at me, and I was just laughing out load!!!! I couldn't look at him and just ran to the conference room...thank god he wasn't going that direction......

K3, your post has enlightened me. Yes he was a horrible boss, he didn't hesitate to embarrass or insult me in many different occasions, from this incident he was rude to me, while another college done the same and he took it in a very nice manner!!!! anyway, moving from this incident, it just made me think is socially accepted or I am doing wrong here? As I am coming from a background that it's socially acceptable to say happy b'day before the actual day - as a gustier of you acknowledge the b'day of the person. and it's actually not good to say happy b'day after the actual b'day. now I know. Thanks. edited by Gorobattie on 20/03/2012

I feel sorry for you Chocs01 for your dilemma! In the beginning it was a mistake to go and try to talk to those mental people, as you talked to them, they thought they are important and every body wants their acceptance ..... I am living in apt at the moment, suddenly my maid started telling me that the people who live below us are complaining from the children shouting!!! I asked my maid more then I understood from her that the woman targeted my maid for couple of days telling her how my children are naughty and she do yoga or sh*t things like that and she offered my maid to bring my children to teach them how to be quite!!!!! I was furiose, yet I hated the way she approached my maid instead going directly to me, my maid won't give me a slap on my hand and she is my employee, so she have no power over me, then I just told my maid if this witch - she look like one with here strange hair - next time : to man up and tell my boss this other wise I don't need to here you and see you. once my maid told her so, she never ever done it again, instead she had seen me only once and started telling me how she do zen or wen sessions to teach the calming down and I should send my children to her. I just replied back next time she promote doing business in the company accommodation she and her family will be booted out in a glance. she couldn't answer me back after that. this was 18 moths ago, never heard any complains after that. What I suggest is: Ignore, Ignore , Ignore. And as another poster posted you need to move out of this place.

Ladies, think about what make 58 years old want to keep working? She is not from a country will give her pension or have social security over there, so the help is mutual, she help in the house while the employer keep her living in decent way, not going to beg from people to live. if the maid wants to work, then that indicate her need for money.

Hi Sue62, there has been some improvement. With the help of therapyst we have worked out a plan and now it is a ''controlled separation'' phase. We agreed to work on our issues, not to date other people, see each other twice a week+weekly couples therapy session. DH gave me a list of requests, deal-breakers, so i know what i should focus on. After 2 weeks she(the therapyst) will review our progress and wether we are ready to move back together. She was also against his parents coming over right now, as we both have loads of issues to work on and shouldn`t be affected by other people. She is very supportive. DH read my previous thread. Therapyst is also an EW member, apparently. So i won`t be updating a lot... Opsiiii Wild Mint! That's why I never get DH to read throw EW threads, so I can vent as much as I can.... P.S. He can not access it at work, it's banned like gmail, hotmail and yahoo mails....not forgetting twitter and FB....and all in same categories.... All the best Girl. I'm happy for you.
