Oh women! tough it up! if someone is rude to you, just return the favour back! as other posters said, just tell them off, and for colleges just tell them that you didn't ask for their opinions and when need opinion you will ask from a friend not you - the college - and so he/she should keep their opinions to them selves.... and then tell him/here about something you know about the appearance of her or him and tell them in their face! that should do the trick, and believe me they won't dare telling you anything similar again for the rest of the time you are spending in your work.

Well.... that happened to me today, as I waved to a taxi in Jumaira beach road, after I'm done my appointment with my dentist, I got to this one, normally I don't look at the driver, just gave him the directions and enjoy the streets..... this one, I heard the way he was breathing in, it looked like someone have asthma, so I turned to ask him if he was okay, before I say any thing; I see this rounded ugly bug crawling out of his collar, the go back from where it come from!!!! at this point I unfastened the seat belt, and felt like throwing myself out of the taxi, just hold my breath and told him to stop the car, as I need to buy something from that mall, after he dropped me, found a woman and her daughter waving at him to stop; I told them that he have bed bugs in his car. luckily I found nothing in my cloths, as I was wearing whits.....Then I reported him to dubai taxi..... <em>edited by Gorobattie on 03/07/2011</em>

Thank Ladies for your inputs and advices, I'm sorry been swirled into the day routine, and cooking lunch, and dinner preparation, then to the GB, as I said DS1 was sick....., I just hit home 20 min ago, and overwhelmed by the responses..... I hired lately agency nanny, apparently she gives the children ketchup in their meal - which I have prepared myself - and I can see this all started with her coming home... I thought I can treat my self with 2 hours every 2 or 3 days, so I can watch TV or reading or anything just me time, while DH is at work...... this ketchup is full of corn syrup and makes the kids go nuts.... I confronted her, then she told me that what I cook is not tasty for the children!!!! so called the agency and asked them to provide another one for me..... as for now, yes, I have to start being tough with the boys, I mean letting them know what is the boundaries, I thought when I teach DS1, then DS2 will see what is going on and follow, Wrong! DS2 is totally doing whatever he wants, and this is my fault, as a start I will separate the boys, so DS2 will lose the fun factor, I will buy a wooden this stick to shut the balcony door, so he won't be able to slid open it. phones will be secured in the night stand drawer, and land line will be taken from it's sockets. as for the main door... me and DH was doing this all the time, so this must be changed. I was thinking about upgrading the cot bed into bed, so maybe he won't feel he is trapped inside his bed....... as for the routine he used to sleep after 6:30 pm, but we started delaying his sleep time, so he won't walk up around 5 30 am..... ETA: I made a copy of this thread, so I will stick to the advices in it, to help me go throu this with DS2, Thank you ladies. :) <em>edited by Gorobattie on 23/06/2011</em>

There are many foods that can have an effect on him, milk, bread, fruit, drinks, etc etc, maybe you need to have a food allergy test done, you still need to set him some boundaries, and give a suitable punishment [like timeout'> when he does something unacceptable.. I'll try the time out with him, when I give him a spank on the bottom - sure a nappy is protecting him - he pretends he is crying, and I can see his eyes looking for the reaction he hops for, when I show him indifference, he drops the act and smile at me... I think I had created the monster, when I tell hem to stand in the corner, he doesn't obey, he goes to do something else, or try to fly under the radar, like going to another part of the apt and do another crime.... I need to toughen up a little, I think he have no respect to me any more.

Maybe try putting him to bed later and not letting him have any afternoon naps so he's really tired at bedtime. He just sounds like a very active little boy to me, and if he knows he can get a reaction out of you then he will do it all the more. He does have a bid day - hence I'm staying at home, every day we go swimming in the building swimming pool, as for naps... around 12 midday he supposed to go to sleep, but he keeps getting out of his cot bed, so I stopped doing this, yet he sleeps while playing with his brother - and literally anywhere - and this happen around 3 pm.... maybe I have to walk him up then?

sugar makes kids so hyper active ...maybe you reduce his intake of sugar and sweets... He doesn't like any sweets at all, maybe something else in his diet, it worth looking at this matter.

I know it funny, but having strangers calling beck, then explaining it was a mistake not funny; one time I had a very strange phone call for someone thought I was trying to pick a fling with :\: he sleeps every night between 8 and 9 pm, then he can recharge his batteries quickly, and start mischiefs on 3 am... Help, what else I can do to make him - at least walk up 6 am?

AM Indian and throughout my life I have never known it to be polite to say You have put on weight. Honestly! I think it is just incredibly rude and way for the commentor to feel superior (throws you off doesn't it and wrecks your self confidence). I was at a party a few years ago when someone I barely know said "You have become so fat" and a common friend told him to stop being rude and an a hole. Both were Indian. I also had someone at work (also Indian, but a rude rude moron) tell me "You have not been going to the parlour have you" and I snapped at him and asked him whether I had ever given him the impression that he could talk to me that way... he was mortified, he knew exactly what he was doing and thought I would feel embarassed. If someone does this to you, dont take it lying down. It is a incredibly rude thing to say to deliberately shake up your confidence. If it is an accepted cultural thing to say you say "you are looking well" or your tone belies it to be a compliment. "You are so fat/ have become so fat" is rude and everyone knows that. my point, thanks kcinthecity

IGorbattie always seems to come with great replies to these people. Maybe we should try her approach:-) it's just the idea of being capable to defend your self from predators.... yes predators are every where, while you like it or not, but it always help. Why should I be bad or a biatch if I defended my self from a harassing comment or insult?. I admire you being so quick with great replies. I wish I were the same:-) :D You can always keep practising it :D ETA to say: Just keep in your mind that you refuse to be victimised, when this idea is engraved inside you mind, then you will find yourself good in replying on a harassment or insult. I used to be insulted when I was young and keep it inside, thinking that I brought it to my self, then one time I talked with my mum about it, she told me that she fought hard to bring each one of us to be a strong person and not to accept insults, or be treated bad from any one, and the statement she told me that day: the predator didn't feel ashamed to insult me, why should I feel ashamed from defending myself? after all; the predator started it all, and I have to stand for myself b/c no one will do if I showed no respect to myself, people respect whom respect them selves. since then I didn't take $h!t from any body, believe it or not, my husband is proud of me, coz I can tell the insult from the lines, DH takes time to get it, then he tells me he should react like me, or stop this or that situation. <em>edited by Gorobattie on 19/06/2011</em>

I agree with the poster who said it's not wholly cultural. Our maid has put on weight and a maid from down the street told her she was looking the same as her best friend (who is huge!) and our maid was very annoyed. So among Philipinas at least, it's not ok to make these remarks. I think they know what they are doing when they pass these comments and are relying on our good manners not to make a nasty retort. I have no idea, maybe they have a bad day, maybe it's that time of the month, maybe and maybe, but after all it's not turn to take this insult coz they can and get aways with it by saying: it's a cultural thing. plus cultural thing when they do it with each other, not to people whom are not from the same background.

I don't know why hairdressers seem to think of themselves as 'artists'. You tell them do something, they do something else thinking they know best. I recently had to use a different hairdresser as my own was on vacation. I told this lady "BLEACH IT. SNOW WHITE. ALMOST SILVER. DOUBLE HEAD OF HIGHLIGHTS. PACK THEM ON. ILL PAY WHATEVER" When she finished, i look at my hair which seemed DARKER and still plenty of roots showing and she smiled and said "now! very natural! i put very fine highlights in". Em, stupid much? WHY CAN'T THEY JUST DO WHAT YOU TELL THEM! Oh well, yesterday, I went to another hair dresser, b/c my hair dresser is on vacation, went to the other hair dresser - just next door on mine - and asked for a blow dry and straitening - no fancy stuff - I had to wait 1 hour just to have the girl whom going to do the job. she insisted on me that I have to wash my hair, I told her I have already washed it this morning and applied my heat protector, she insisted that my hair is curly and I must wash it, then I asked her do you have heat protector? she said yes ma'm we do. she washed my hair like 3 times!!! I told her what are you doing? my hair is clean and don't treat it like a rug! then finally she applied the conditioner - only the tips of my hair????? any way, sit on the chair, she started sectioning my hair, I asked her where is the heat protector? she said: Oh I thought you put it on after you do your hair? I told her; It's a Heat Protector to Protect the hair from the Heat of the blow dryer, Duhhh? then she spent 5 min looking for the heat protector :/: I told her do you know what is the heat protector ? she said yeah yeah i do, then she brings this box - look like tablet box - then i told her to show me the box Before she apply anything on my hair, and it was a serum for the split ends... I told her I want a heat protector not that. she replies that ; Every body use this serum, and no one complained from it! your hair need it! I told her I know my hair very well coz I have been born with it, and thank you very much I know my hair better than any one else. she tried every way to convince me she knows better, until the real hair dresser enter the place and she took over from there?!!!!!! that 1st girl was only a trainee, like the other 3 girls whom doing nothing at all!!!! going back to that hair dresser? Never!! and thank God it was only a blow dry!

Yep, most of the shop attendants or shop assistants are - that I have been treated this treatment - are from the same background. And I'm not from EU or white background, actually I am from arabic background. Okay maybe my reply was rude, but they started the rudeness first, why should I take a smack on my teeth and keep quit? why should I be polite after being harassed by such nasty comment from a person his or her job is to be polite and give a good service? again, one time one shop assistant from the same background asked me ; are you pregnant? I told her no I'm not. then she told me ; I'm sorry. and she kept quite.... so they can be polite - if they want - if not, well I have to stick up for my self. defence mechanism is different from a person to another. while I don't think those suds can do the same with arabic woman whom happen wears abaya and shiela.

This will keep their little hole in their face shut. then they will never ever say anything like that... on the other hand, you can talk to the manager or the owner of this shop, tell him this little comment irritate you and your colleges - if they have had it - when the attendant say junk food on what they sell it's not funny, and maybe the municipality need to have a look at the (junk) they sell in that shop. The last option will make those suds keep quit and not make this kind of comments any more. That is a little too rude... I think that they are trying to be friends as your face seems familiar to them... it's a cultural thing I think because they do it everywhere to anyone... On the bright, they also stop doing it once you made yourself clear about the sort of relationship you want it to be like. :) cultural thing..... if you have seen my big fat greek wedding, when the bride is walking to the alter, every body spat on her way just as a cultural good luck!!!! I respect every body and expect they respect me in return, like this shop attendant while I was in the fitting room, and wanted to have a walk in the trouser , then she bursted in saying: you have big **** and shouldn't buy this one, better have this skirt. I was :/: and then told her: did I asked for your opinion? she said no but I thought you would like to hear it, this trousers do not fit you.

I think I'd have to ask myself if I was happy with my weight and my eating habits and if not could this be the reason why the staff in the cafe are hitting a raw nerve. it doesn't matter she is thin of big - like me - they are providing a service, they should be not giving personal opinions about their service - unless they have been asked for it - she is not their friend nor she wants to be. DR can you pumb in a random person and just give them a piece of your mind about how they look or dress? just walk in a mall and tell that man he should do some exercises? or this woman and tell her she should eat more coz she is so thin? I don't think so, every body is free of what he/she think, but once your opinion got out of your mouth, you give upon a request.

It's from New Zealand, in NZ it coast between 6 and 7 Dollars, and in dubai, it could be between 12 and 20 aed - these are 3 or 4 years ago in co - op and spennies.... try over 100dh now....proper honey has been priced out of sanity. even clover honey is between 28 and 50 dh depending on brand. DEAR GOD! 100 dh!!!!! it's only Rata honey!!! maybe I have to wait till next visit to WLG, then stack on it!!! maybe I should wait till November then? or any body having someone coming from NZ? I appreciate 6 or 12 pots of them, I'll pay for it? any one?

we bought it a long time ago - is super useful as i have a toddler who loves finger food- a lot of meals in terms of potato chips, sweet potato chips and carrot chips fried in olive oil - and it tastes so much yummier than store bought fries.......we even fried fish in it....so def recommend it I can't add more than this, Since I had it - almost 4 years ago - and we love having our home made fries! my son helps me doing it, just set the timer and have your fries in, when it is done, it will peep, so you take them out, you can wash the inside of it in dish washer, I highly recommend it. And it worth every penny you pay for it. :)

When I used to live in Christchurch, there were an old woman - over 60 or so - she was clean but her cloths look like old and some times dirty, but it was the same ever day, we used to see her walking in the roads talking to imaginary person, until one day we have been in one of the mall at the food court, and the kids were in the line for Macdonald's, and one of them come over to our table and told us she was there, like she was watching the food, taking the line, when she become the next person to order, she leave the line, me and DH talked with each other that maybe she is hungry and have no money to but something, we decided to approach her and offer her to accept our invitation, DH was reluctant to do, as she is woman and he doesn't know how she will react, then it was me! I greeted her then asked her if she wants any thing that we invites her to our table, then she didn't talk in the beginning, then she whispered in my ear something then pointed to the sunday ice cream, I bought her one, when I approached her, she refused it and told me to give to my little one! then DH come over to offer her money for her journey, then she whispered to him: Rejoice the good men! then she moved away from us! I guess we have been manipulated by her, or she didn't understand us at all, then she went to do her game, taking the line, and leaving it before reaching the counter. after this we seen her all over the place, she keeps walking every where around Hagley Park. we felt sad for her, that a woman in her age, have nobody taking care of her and leaving her walk like this way.

Oh thanks for the tip natalie8, but we have been looking for the rata ones, I have nothing against the manuka, the rata taste better... we have tried the thyme one and the tast wasn't good. I'll keep looking for the rata honey all over uae, or I have to buy a big amount from NZ next time we go over there... Hey ladies, I have to cook something for diner and have no ideas to, and no enough money for shopping - waiting till the DH salary is out - and very few stuff in the fridge and the freezer to cook. any body have ideas to make some thing from: frozen vigi mince meat / 2 steaks / lamp shops / beef stripes / frozen mix of spiced vigi any help is appreciated P.S. if you want to make a sarcastic comment, I don't need it here. Thank you ladies.

Hi Clair, It really difficult to determine or tell what exactly you are expecting, each department in Emirates and Danata have it's own benefits and this goes to the salary - sure-... they have the Grade system, which means grade 1 is less than 2, grade2 is less than 3 and so on... You said you are going to be in the English department ??? is it a teaching job? assuming so, if it is, then you will be grade 7, that entitle you for benefits, like free emirates clinic for you DH and children - not sure about how much you will be entitled for child(ren) tuition fees payed by the company, how much you will be entitled for the accommodation allowance: a) if you decided to take the money, you will take it every 6 months or b) if you got the company provided accommodation, which you don't pay DEWA at all, enjoying the free mind of watching the bill :D, in this case you need to provide how many ppl will be living with you ( you, DH,how many child whether inside uae or out of uae, house maid, mother or father) then as per this they will provide you with apartment .... initially as grade 7 you are entitled for 2 bedroom apartment, but if you have a big family, they will give you 3 or 4 bedroom apt) again I insist that every department have different entitlement for it's employee, and the entitlement for the grades still defer. So good luck and hope this post give you some hints about what to expect. You are quite correct in that the benefits are grade specific, however, a grade 7 is not enititled to use the Emirates clinic, and no tuition fees are paid for a corporate grade 7. Also, a grade 7 is only able to take a one bed apt with or without family. OP, you may want to find out which grade you are applying for as it could be 7 or 8, 8 has many more benefits, which increase into managerial grades 9. 10 and into VP, SVP etc A dear friend of mine she was hired as Grade 7, then after 6 months got the grade 8, I have seen list of benefits - we were apt mates and yet the best friends ever - and in her department she was offered the emirates clinic and the tuition fees... Again I say I was in different department and Grade 6 and didn't get those benefits, but actually got the clinic only for me- not free but have a top to be spent on me - and no other dependents at all. Again, One more time, it depends on which department and which grade as well, In Emirates Group, don't think you all grade whatsoever, still you are all so much different.... that was my post is stating.... To OP, good luck knowing exactly what you are offered.
