I buy chlorine tablets from Regency Pools - 1 kg which is a pack of 5 tablets costs around 30 riyals. They're on D Ring just before Newton International School - their location should be shown on Google maps. If you're on D Ring driving towards the airport, take the first slip road after going over the E Ring flyover. Then first right and first right again and it takes you around to the rear of the villa. Sorry, my directions aren't the best!!

I would've guessed yes providing it was less than 100ml. But then I googled and found one site that said yes and the BAA site said no - http://www.baa.com/assets/B2CPortal/Static%20Files/hand_baggage_21Aug.pdf Looks like you're going to have to call QA and ask them ... good luck ;)

Furniture souq area in Najma is the place to go - lots of shops selling cheap furniture. I'd been looking for a small wardrobe and bedside cabinet for our housemaid's room and had looked in all the supermarkets to no avail. We got both for 350 riyals and for an extra 50 they delivered. They're the usual cheap flat-pack stuff but already assembled.

Oh Maple, I laughed when I read your post! I don't think there's any chance of DH storing the bike anywhere other than inside your villa :) There are several bikes in our house and quite a few of DH's friends insist on storing the bikes in their villas and apartments too (one lives on the 20-something floor of an apartment building in West Bay). Good luck with trying to persuade him otherwise!! Just called DH and he's not aware of any shops selling covers but has heard of guys getting them made at one of the upholstery shops. Also, Al Fardan have moved from C ring to the Al Fardan Centre. Bikes in living rooms aren't so bad - you get used to it ;)

I buy Valbreso Feta. It's actually made in France but is 100% sheeps milk - has the tangy, salty taste of proper Greek feta (200g packs and also 1kg tins). I've seen it in Carefour, Mega Mart, Family Food and some smaller supermarkets. The pack has a picture of a chunk of cheese with a greek salad in the corner and a sheeps head above the name printed in green and white. I think it's priced around 12/14 riyals. I've also seen a 200g pack of Greek feta (blue coloured pack) but wasn't willing to pay 25 riyals for it! I agree, the cheese in those cartons tastes nothing like Feta :( Happy shopping ...

Hi fullofdreams, I'm just about to start my second round any day now. First try in December was unsuccessful and now that I know what to expect and that it's not nearly as scary as I'd thought, I'm hoping I'll be much more relaxed and stress-free this time around. The only website that I've looked at is FertilityFriends which is excellent and everyone seems to recommend them. The only advice I can give is try not to get stressed and be very kind to yourself over the next few weeks. If you want any questions answered, I'll try my best. If you'd rather email than post on here just let me know. Lots and lots of luck to you - many women get a BFP first time, which I hope you do x

Shanni, No words of wisdom - just relax, turn up with a smile and you'll have a great time! The wedding I attended was quite low-key (compared to many weddings I've heard about) but I had a ball. I just loved to look at all the beautiful (and over-the-top) gowns and the dancing. The older women were all up strutting their stuff & enjoying themselves - it was fab to see. Be prepared for LOUD music and have a go at dancing yourself! Make sure you eat something before you go though - we arrived at the hotel at 8pm and the buffet was available at around 11.30pm!! Enjoy yourself x

Thanks for the reply Indika - I'll be in touch. Saraomar, no we didn't go through an agency. DH already had approval from a few years back to sponsor a Filipina, so it was quick and easy to change the nationality. One of the Tea Boys in his office used to move into our house when we went on holidays to look after the animals but then his contract ended and wasn't extended so had to go home. We asked him to look out for someone who would like to work for us (knowing what the job would entail!) and here we are ... so far, so good. Sorry I can't be of any real help.

Our housemaid arrived last week and she's lovely. She's settled in well so far but she has no friends/family or acquaintances here in Doha and I'd like to try and help her to make one or two friends. I've already checked with the Embassy as to whether they know of any social groups or newsletters but they couldn't help me. Only other option I can come up with is if any of you ladies have a Sinhalese speaking Housemaid that perhaps wants to make a new friend? We live in the Abu Hamour area. Also, does anyone know where I could perhaps find some reading material or DVD's in Sinhalese for her? Any help much appreciated.

Many thanks for your replies girls, they've been a great help. Yes, I was planning to give her a mobile and I have heard that flights home every two years are the norm but she has a husband and child back in Sri Lanka :( My DH's tea-boy from his office found her for us so he's explained roughly what we expect her to do (which isn't a huge amount as the main reason we're getting her is that she can look after the house and animals so we can go on holiday together)!! I'm hoping that she will be willing to take English lessons which I'm happy to pay for - at the moment her English is limited so it would be of benefit to both of us! Should I get in touch with her Embassy to find out if they have contacts or how do I find out about lessons (but firstly, I need to find out which language she speaks)? Thanks again :)

We have sponsored a Sri Lankan lady who is due to arrive next week. I think DH is being slightly unrealistic in what we should pay her and also what we should purchase for her and what she pays for herself. I'd be really grateful if you could give me an indication of what a maids 'package' should consist of as I'm completely clueless. He's suggesting a starting salary of 1200 (isn't that too low?) with the view of giving her an increase if she performs well (and we and she is happy for her to stay - she's not worked as a maid before). We have no children so would not need to work evenings - although we have animals to keep her occupied ;) I'm unsure of food - should we pay for all her food or just provide her with basics? I noticed on another thread that toiletries should be provided - is this correct? Anything else to include (apart from an annual ticket home for holidays)? Any help would be appreciated. :)

HisSunshine - I can't help with your query I'm afraid but I think you may have better luck with recommendations on who to see if you post this on the 'Qatar' forum too as most of the ladies on this forum seem to be UAE. Hopefully you'll receive a quick reply. And CONGRATULATIONS :)

Hi Dubai71, How are you feeling today? I had my first ICSI cycle last month - I thought I'd timed it well being over the Christmas and New Year period (thought the time would fly) but I don't think I could've chosen a worse time of year if I'd tried (no vino for a start - ow)! People react differently to the shots - for me, it was as if I had extreme PMT! It's only then that I appreciated how lucky I was to have such a laidback DH! I was SO moody and snappy with him and then I'd get teary knowing I was being a complete psycho *itch. Bless his heart, he took it all in his stride and was so good with me. I was also really nervous as I didn't know what to expect and was dreading the retrieval (which wasn't nearly as bad as I'd anticipated), so that just made me more edgy and tearful! Be easy on yourself - don't feel that you should be 'normal' as there's a heck of a lot of hormones coursing through you! I was on stims for 11 days and I did feel more like my old self for the last few days. Be kind to yourself, take it easy and hang in there. x

There's a 25m and 50m pool at Aspire. There are two options - either enroll for fitness classes and get an aquatic add-on (see link below) where you can join particular aquatic classes or you can get a pool only membership directly at the pool and pay weekly to swim. They have strict women only and men only sessions during daytime and evenings. http://www.aspire.qa/inthecommunity/aspireactivewomen.aspx
