just to update all those that offered up Dr Sawson recommendations, she has been fab, I'm so pleased I changed. seriously dont bother with gulf diagnostics for gynae. I felt like a leper going as a single female and was given no advice whatsover. Dr Sawson was really thorough and listened to what I wanted.

you only have to look at the rainbow hair of the staff to get an idea of standard at changes. I went to get my colour corrected and ended up with MORE colours in my hair. and its SO expensive, 400-500 for full head colour highlights, 150 for a trim, 150 for blow dry. surely if your getting your hair coloured and cut a blow dry should be inlcuded?! but I think thats a UAE thing not exclusive to changes. Used to see Kylie when she was at spinneys and was good then she left, now shes back at Glamour Salon on Khalifa Street, she did a great job rescuing my highlights. Then I decided to go dark again cos my hairs growing so fast and had Mary Anne this time, she also did a great job. Is in the Nileen Bank building. The salon is also way nicer and trendier than hairworx. That salon used to remind me of the ones my gran would go to! not the nice ones I was used to in UK.

only problem is Reem is not ready yet and still no-one knows when it will be! marina square is more finished than the others but still at least a month off and then nothing like shops and bars are open yet. at least at Raha you can go across to Yas etc.

thanks ladies, I've got follow up appt in few weeks and if dont like what she says I'm off to the other one. I dont care if I'm 'luckier than a local' to have a certain thing in place, its making me fat and spotty! the cure one sounds more like a well-woman clinic too which is much better, good that you get breast scans etc. worth taking advantage of as they dont start them til quite late in UK unless you have history. thanks!

OK thats useful to know, I went to my appt yesterday and shes doing the same, some tests as its been 3 yrs since my last lot in the UK but not all the breast screening as well so thats interesting. I might try there too. I didnt really get what I hoped for yesterday and it cost me money, and will cost me more money when I go back inb 2 weeks. I'm determined not to have to wait until I go to UK in June. I do think it is slightly different if your married, mines a regional plan, im guessing your 'extended' means partner etc. Anyway, I might book and papt with them so thanks for the reply. Where was the centre? I"m sure ive seen it somewhere!

great thanks, let me know how you get on. I booked to go to Gulf Diagnostics, which takes Daman too but have to pay 50dhs then 20% which was same as when I visited the same hospital for a chest infection. Is yours completely covered? I have blue card too. And do you mind me asking if your married? my friend had to pay despite insurance as shes not married!!

the nicest properties with decent fittings for a 'cheaper' price tend to be off island unfortunately, Al Bandar at Raha Beach, 2 beds about 140-150k and prices still coming down and then Al Reef 2 bed villas for about 100-110k now. Reem Island is imminently due for completion that should offer slightly better quality altho what I saw of sun and sky tower it was no better than my 5 yr old low rise building in town. Please bear in mind abu dhabi is about 3-4 yrs behind Dubai at least. Theres loads to do you just have to vary it a bit more and we desp lack that Marina or cluster style of nightlife but then taxis are dirt cheap between venues. As much as I want a nice new modern place, and mines not that bad, im also thinking how cheap other things are on the island as its all subsidised. our Dewa bills are about 90dhs a month at the mo, estimates at bandar ive been told are about 2000k a month due to the district cooling there. I'll get my sea view at the corniche thanks! again if you email me budgets I'll happily give you indications of what yuo will get and where. or post on here. Older style on island are anywhere between 80-90k upwards, new ones but tend to be smaller are about 120-130k + now. Sea views & facilities anywhere 180k upwards. and villas quite a bit more on island, cheapest ive seen are 250k. the property section on here is powered by propertyfinder. check that out.

Hey Poodle, Abu Dhabis really not as scary as people think. Obv living in town will be better for you whilst you get to know the place. Depends on your budget. Feel free to email me as I work with Real Est people so can try and help you. Also if you want to make friends, I'm late twenties but working and not with kids etc so am trying to get another girly night out planned in the future, I'll put you on the email circular if you're interested in joining me and a few others that met via the boards. green(underscore)sarahm(at)yahoo(dot)co(dot)uk any other q's feel free to ask, feel like I'm the oracle of all things Abu Dhabi these days!

as the title suggests i need to know where I can get a decent slow cooker from. Tried all stores in abu dhabi and choice is so limited. wish amazon would deliver me one! I ideally want one with a timer, not a huge one, just normal one. Any suggestions of places to go ladies?? I'm up in dubai once a fortnight and can check out a few places if know where to look in the first place!
