If you want to save them money then what Maroosh suggested is best... but if you want to treat them than Biryani if they are from the sub-continent...!

Thanks Ladies. I have found the value of my car. Now does anyone know how I go about selling a car? What is the procedure? Advertise on dubizzle and other active forums for cars (one is petrolheads i believe) and see for a few days what offers you get... if you dont want to go through all the hassle maybe you can sell it to secondhand car showrooms... now that you know what your car is worth they might not rip you... btw petrolheads has very active discussion forum and guys there might be able to guide you well on how to go about things way better than here... i see really hardcore car talk going on there at times... !

Would be watching this thread closely... never been to exclusively Emirati restaurant...i always wondered what original Emirati food is like... initially i used to think Middle eastern food is something common they shared in the region... but with time I realize Lebanese, Syrian, Irani, Turkish all are different cuisines ... btw which restaurant are you planning to go to?

To be honest it's not a bad thing, especially with regards to water consumption. People ue it like it's going out of fashion, not a precious resource. They seem to forget that they live in the desert when they're watering their driveways to clean them, instead of brushing them, leaving sprinklers on all day in gardens etc. People need to be more aware of their consumption, so it should make people more careful with how they use it. I think a very short percentage of expats really have driveways to water..... although the wastage of water is condemn-able wherever one is in the world, desert or not, as water resources are depleting and it needs to be conserved by every person on this planet... but majority expats in UAE will be hard hit by this hike... awareness should be spread through stronger campaigns rather than drastically hiking the prices ... an expat with a driveway might stop watering it to control their bill but what are other's suppose to against this new living cost?

I believe what you are asking is whether the voucher deal includes drinks... if yes, then the answer is no... you would need to buy drinks separately ... but if you are worrying whether you would be allowed to buy a drink if you use the entertainer voucher ... then yes, you can buy the drink separately on your visit when you use entertainer vouchers...! Sorry if i got your question wrong...1

I love Creek Park ... landscape wise as well as activity wise... u can take a train around the park, they have cable car and now they have camel/pony rides too... i would start from there and check out all the parks one by one before deciding which i want to visit more frequently... !

Cinnamon, ginger tea with a spoon of honey helps my DD recover real fast if she is coming down with anything... she just started coughing a bit and got slight ever i started giving this at once and she recovered within a day... it always works for her... you just need to boil cinnamon and ginger together for a while and mix the honey in the cup...!

Dubizzle is great... got some great stuff from there... if you decide on second hand then i suggest you pursue those who are leaving Dubai and are selling most of their stuff as this would save you many trips for every item and save you the transport cost... sometimes people are selling the entire apartment stuff at really reasonable costs... good luck..!

Its amazing how one's belief in humanity is restored again and again despite the inhumane and utterly evil acts of humans... the Australian response and then the coming together of Pakistani nation in support of their compatriots and against the dark forces... the light of hope cannot be extinguished easily... even though its becoming increasingly hard to open the newspapers in the morning as days pass... !

well if your mom is coming over to take care of her grandchild and is not 90 years old, I would assume she is a healthy woman somewhere in her 50's? yup, i would certainly not hire a full time nanny, i would also assume if she agreed she knows what is at stake lol…she will be tired yes but will be fine I am sure. i would be insulted I think, so I would hold off. [b'>We old people have amazing stamina, often more than the youngsters[/b'> lol i think its more strategy than stamina... hehe... i have seen my mother in law handle her 2 grandchildren (her daughter's) for 15 days pretty well... both were under 2 then... but then my mother in law is a very wise and disciplined woman... :)

I so feel for you... my mum is a gem... she has diabetes since 15 years and she has never taken insulin ... she always takes care of her diet... obviously she indulges once in a while... but her routine is healthy... despite that she has health issues as she is bound to have at her age... I feel being conscientious about ones own health is a way of showing your love for your loved ones... the healthier you are, the happier they are and less of a burden you are on them...! edited by Grittt1 on 15/12/2014

The flip up lids are different - you have to break the seals yourself, but the screw lids break their own seals when you open them. Thats true... there is no tampering ... its just the new screw lid system that breaks its own seal to make ease for us... i was a bit taken aback when first saw it but then realized its just the new system... i for one am very happy that i dont have to jerk the seal open myself now... !

I think in this case... its better if you buy your own chocolate and stuff that husband is not prepared to buy... after all you are earning yourself...it is not a big enough issue to lose your sleep over or get into an argument with husband... as for him calling you psycho, maybe you should just stop reacting to it... and stop arguing on small issues altogether.... weight his good qualities over the bad ones... and look at things in there perspective, don't blow issues out of proportion... and if you want to spend your life with this person do your best to make as much ease in the relationship as you possibly can... edited by Grittt1 on 11/12/2014

Open your mouth and tell him what yo want. "Why can't you buy that for me?" If you are taking care of him in the bedroom, why shouldn't he take care of you in the life? I dont agree at all.. dont think in marriage (or any relationship for that) should one remind the other of the good or favour that one has done her/him. Relationships are about give and take but not about impressing upon the other that since i do this, you have to do that... one can generally discuss grievances and find solutions... edited by Grittt1 on 11/12/2014

Joking aside if there was a school that went at the pace of my child rather than the class average I would be a happy Mother. I want my child stretched academically I want my child to have the opportunity to set up young enterprise ideas I want my child to have a detention if he/she fails to attain a grade of B or above in all assessments and tests. I want summer academic classes I want amazing teachers that inspire I want my child to play all sports and have a team for each sport no matter ability level I want my child to be rewarded when he/she does something well I want schools to go back to old fashioned drilling rather than this namby pamby learn through play rubbish I want old fashioned sports days where there are winners and losers.......because guess what thats life edited by ladymary on 09/12/2014 WOW... same here... it seems like its becoming just about making our generations more and more materialistic rather than genuine people with genuine contentment in life... life surely is more than designer cloths, fine-dining, ease and luxury at every corner... !

Doesn't it all come down to whether one can afford the trip or not... children would always want to go... but if explained with love and understanding they can appreciate the financial limitations of their parents and one can always compensate with a more affordable option later, something they really want... i hope i can put this advice in practice if the time comes and i am not in a position to avail any opportunity for my child...

This happens all the time especially at the fruit counters, there is always someone standing in front of a pile of fruit and having an extended 'try' of the produce. I have never seen the staff ask them to stop or to pay for what they have eaten so [b'>it seems to be accepted as a norm in Dubai,[/b'> I guess the cost of this loss is paid for by the rest of us who go to the shops to buy rather than eat! I dont think its an accepted norm... there is so much competition among markets nowadays... hypermarkets cant afford to lose even the 'a bit voracious' customers to other hypermarkets... after all they do buy something (if not that particular fruit) ... and thus are beneficial to them... and i am sure the hypermarket don't lose much by just a few 'over tasters' s day... so they just choose to ignore it.. edited by Grittt1 on 09/12/2014

I saw [b'>Gripe water[/b'> recently at Spinneys but I know it's a hit or miss thing whether you find it or not. Probably best to focus on your diet as a first step and keep up with the lengthy burping and see if you notice any improvement. I think its better to be careful which brand you buy ... i dont remember what exactly but when i looked it up in my time there were certain ingredients in some brands that needed to be watched out for.. you can google it... :)

Why would they let you off with minimum charges? In most countries you'll be charged a new ID or passport if you loose it. How can you blame the authorities if YOU loose your ID. Sadly EW is becoming a whining site :( For many expats there are few ears to vent ones feelings out to... i didn't notice that much whining going on here, and what i liked about this forum is that people vent out their feelings and i really find the different take on a topic by different women very interesting as it opens one's mind to the differences in opinion... it has made me see things from different angles.... edited by Grittt1 on 01/12/2014

Since ladies on this forum come from or have lived in different parts of the world, where is a good city/town to raise children? if you are not worried about work and money. This includes good schools, good houses, safe community, tolerant people, English speaking, mild winters (preferably), and any other good thing you could think of.. Please share your thoughts. Money no object, safe community, tolerant people, English speaking, mild winters, decent housing, [i'>some[/i'> good schools, good place to raise children....... I would say the perfect place would be Dubai  edited by Alismum on 27/11/2014 Agreed.... if not home... which might not have all the plus points you list but is still HOME... :)

You can't really be peeved for something that was your own fault. Emirates ID is an ID we all need to have so like my passport I need to make sure I don't lose it. Has nothing to do with making money on every corner, if you don't lose it you don't have to replace it. Pardon me for being a mere mortal... :\: ... on a serious note.. i am very careful of the IDs and I just don't know how i lost it... obviously one has to replace the ID if lost but why do they have to charge the same amount as a renewal would... after all isn't the purpose of ID cards identification, access to public services and to better manage the population... ppl do lose stuff, wallets get stolen, houses burn down... if someone loses their IDs... they can be let off with minimum service charges (which is 70/-AED) as they will pay the full ID charges at the time of renewal anyway...

Don't stay up late at night.. wake up early... be as physically active as possible... enjoy mother nature at every given opportunity... this works for me best... the day i oversleep or sleep at wrong times... i feel lethargic and if there is a cause for stress it turns into real depression... so if you are already stressed maybe you can follow a healthy sleep routine for starters...

http://www.thenational.ae/business/personal-finance/sad-expats-priced-out-of-their-lives Thanks for sharing a good read. We are a group on small business owners, in our last meeting we were sharing our issues these days. Most of us are struggling like never before. My own business has gone down by 50% darastically in last 3 months. All the clients i meet, they all are complaining about same thing. Thank God I have had enough savings & options to downsize....but those who don't have, they will end up in debts. Funny enough, this year I fought my office landlord for not giving me enough notice, so he had already served notice for next renewal with increase of 20%. (Not notarized, not official, just by hand on a piece of paper, which I know is not olegal, also we are no more entitled for increase unless there is further price change by rera). My case against my home landlord is still in Rental committee to be heard. Good luck to me and all other going through same.....after living here for a decade....at least I don't see a hope. We can't go back home as things are worst there. I already regret my decision, had I put this much effort elsewhere, at least by now I will hold nationality, PR of that country. Here in UAE....once an expat, always an expat... So sad and scary... my heart goes out to kids who have been brought up here and this is a home for them and then just leave because they have no choice.. .... i am afraid my child might start feeling the same.. if we can afford to stick around here that long that is... :(
