We've lived here 4 years and still yet to find tester pots like back home! SO frustrating!! If I'm honest, there's probably no need... If you book a move out/in package with a moving company here touch-ups and re-painting is usually part of the package so you needn't stress about it yourself

Thank you for offering, Michelle. We did find an afterschool enrichment centre closer to my home and we are happy with them now :)
glad to see that all is fine now! what activities do you get involved with? i have a friend who has been having similar issues with their little boy and so any insight or tips would be great if possible!

sorry this is late to the party - but just so you know for next time, no food or beverages can be consumed in ANY public pool or beaches (like kite beach, JBR, your community pool)... Saying that, a lot of the hotels who offer pool and beach access were serving as normal, including alcohol

Dubai Opera is definitely worth a visit - when are you coming? Check what shows are on! La Perle is a must too, a great show... Dubai Frame is a new place to go. Of course there's also City Walk and La Mer - the latter being the newest. There's a new water park there too! Hope that helps!

I desperately need to get back on track - hubby's trying his hardest to motivate me to eat better and exercise more. The first I can deal with, it's the latter I hate. Am thinking of picking up some aqua yoga or aqua aerobics but not sure where to start... Otherwise, I last stepped on the scales 10 days ago and today it told me I've post 3kgs so I guess doing something right How do you all keep fit in the hotter months in Dubai??

Hi optimistic - I'm not much help on this but I fear that you may struggle to find a digital marketing/social media course that lasts just 2 days. If you're wanting to develop a career in those fields why not splurge on the longer courses? Some people go to university and classes for years to ensure they're trained fully in these fields. Just my two cents

Hi Haim, That is a great idea about the grace period. I will see if my employer will be so kind to do it. I just want to be prepared for all scenarios just in case. :-)
You're very welcome :) good luck!!

I'd recommend getting in touch with Kirsty at pawsome pets to help plan bringing your pooches over! She's fab and has helped lots of dog owners with bringing dogs here and leaving... For now though, if i'm not mistaken, the UAE only accepts dogs in cargo hold so make sure they're crate trained and comfortable in a crate for a few hours at a time

Hey! If I'm not mistake then repair or repurpose their items -- there's more info about what they do with your goods on their site... http://www.takemyjunkuae.com/
Beccy's right. they sell your things on to lower income families in the UAE

It's not unheard of - if my memory serves me right, we paid a fee to our estate agent to help facilitate the renewal of our contract... It might sound like you're paying for nothing, but i'm sure your agent is your point of contact should anything go wrong with your landlord or property throughout the year still? If so, it's worth that extra support. Plus, these guys have got to support themselves and if you stay for 3 years in a rented space but only pay all fees at the beginning of the first year, what are they getting for the remaining 2 years?

HIghly recommend Transguard Living for easy moving - they do everything; re-decorate your current place, box, pack and ship your furniture and belongings safely in their vans to your new home and help unpack it all. They're a great bunch of guys to! Have used them twice since being in Dubai

Thank you Haim - I was worried about this. What about in the direction of HomeGrown Nursey in Al safa 2? Would the drive be any easier? Also what about from the Springs to Jebel Ali School ...
I'm afraid Al Safa 2 would pose the same issues when it comes to rush hour... Jebel Ali School however would be easier to get to... 20 mins or so on a good day without traffic straight down Hessa St which you can join at the end of Springs! Hope that helps :)

Even in just the short 4 years I've been here I've seen a huge change in the types of women moving and living here... My SIL moved for her husband's job a decade ago and didn't work herself, a far cry from pursuing my own career when I moved here

I'm pretty sure that companies should provide a grace period - is it 3 months? Check with your current PRO... I'm almost certain that they can keep your visa open to help you with the process of changing jobs, and if it's only 2 weeks for you, then it shouldn't affect your residency if you travel

Nothing in Dubai is free! There is a great TNR programme in Meadows, Lakes and Springs though so might be worth reaching out to one of their members to see if there's somewhere? Otherwise, I recommend European Veterinary Clinic... they're very good and have very reasonable prices... Dr Ivan is brilliant

On a good day, it's less than 30 minutes but in peak traffic, between 45 - 60 minutes as you pass by the Mall of the Emirates exit and Al Manara exits on SZR which are a niiiiightmare during rush hour In Springs itself there's Dubai British Foundation and Dubai British School - both received great KHDA ratings this year so worth checking out... And very close to home!!

We are definitely getting spoiled! Refilling ourown car is simply what we have to do in any other country in the rest of the world :) I don't thinks it should be an issue except for the poor ADNOC ...
Agreed that was my first thought - people will lose jobs, they'll only need half the work force if not less. But saying that, everyone's going to end up paying premium aren't they... As you said, we're spoiled... Probably slightly lazier, too!

I hate to think of the panic you are in right now!! It's awful!!! Have you shared your pup's photo on Facebook groups like Dogs in Dubai? Your community group? With an image it will be easier for people to keep an eye out... I know there's a lot of animal lovers in the city that will help you to find him. Otherwise, take a photo and take the microchip number to several vets around the area you lost him and ask them to keep an eye out - at least that way if he is found and taken to a vet, they'll have your contact details right on hand quickly to let you know.. Wishing you the best of luck in finding him!!!! xxx

Hi Haim, thanks so much for taking the time to to reply, I really appreciate it. So although there is some PA work having spoken to the guy, the main duties are actually looking after his children...
It sounds like he wants to employ you as a live-in nanny/home help if I'm honest, but putting it on the company visa allowance so he doesn't have to arrange a real maid/nanny visa and go through all of the necessary legal steps. Yes a lot of people do a lot of the things here that you're not supposed to - some get away with it, some don't, it's entirely up to you to take the risk. Does he have a PRO? He must have if he owns several companies - speak to someone in the company that has PRO/HR training before you decide anything. What is your speciality? What are your salary expectations? If you wish to be a PA I'm sure there's so many other jobs available that aren't as risky.... On this site alone there's a few that are similar... https://www.expatwoman.com/dubai/jobs-in-dubai/vacancies/parent-liaison-customer-care-officer-275566 https://www.expatwoman.com/dubai/jobs-in-dubai/vacancies/administrative-assistant-271859 https://www.expatwoman.com/dubai/jobs-in-dubai/vacancies/receptionist-271664

Sadly we do not have the same employee rights as experienced elsewhere in the world - so yes, a company sadly has the grounds to remove your offer if they discover your pregnancy. And to be honest, would you want to work for a company that has that principle? Anyway - if your employment visa is underway, i'm assuming you've signed your employment contract - what does that say?

As you've rightly said, it is illegal for a single man to have a female maid... and from the tone of doubt in your post I think you already know the answer. You'll be employed by his company with a professional working visa, so keep your role and your relationship purely professional and there shouldn't be an issue i.e. don't stay over, always go home - it's not worth the risk

I love Ramadan here!! It's the best time of the year because it's quiet, a lot of people escape the country so when they do everything's just a lot more calm and a lot less rushed... Except the drive home mid-afternoon when all fasting Muslims leave work to rush home. Saying that, it's still a lovely time of the year in the city

I'm aware that non-Muslim expats living in the UAE can adopt a child by the laws of their home country - it might be worth seriously considering as there will no doubt be a child out there you can give a great life to if you are unable to conceive yourself. Otherwise, have you talked to pros like Fakih IVF about AI and the laws in the UAE surrounding it? Might be worth getting in touch with them

I'm not 100% sure on the exact costs and routes to take but we did do a little research - my husband and I - and we realised that to buy a 1.8mil villa in Springs would require at least a 600k deposit that includes the services fees etc, then payment would be less than 7k per month over 25 years... property finder and emirates nbd offer good mortgage advice! anyway, good luck with your house buying -- do let us know how you get on as my husband and I would love to purchase in the future so hearing your experiences would be very helpful

I'm sorry to hear you've had a bad experience but be very, very cautious when it comes to providing negative reviews/feedback of a company in the UAE -- especially on a public site such as this... you can get into trouble for slander. My advice is just to agree to settle whatever payment is owed, cut your loss and look for a new company to hire from. I've never hired from an agency though so can't really offer sound advice... But I do recommend justmop or maids.cc for weekly cleaning
