I do think that the cruise control button is used unnecessarily - especially by the big cars speeding at 140km/h going towards Abu Dhabi... it's almost as if they're thinking 'i'm not stopping so you better move out my way!!'

I'm of the understanding that in the airport upon landing you're okay, as long as you're wearing modest clothing - just ensure you have an abaya and hijab on hand to wear before exiting the airport.

I completely get why you'd want your mum around to help, it's not uncommon... but the birth of your first child should be a precious and as stress-free as possible for you, your husband and your new baby. You live in the UK, I'm assuming you pay taxes and it's the NHS - it's a no brainer. Stay in the UK, don't add extra pressure on yourself, you wouldn't want to fly late in your pregnancy either. Ask if your mum can come to the UK instead... But even if she can't, I strongly believe this should be about you, your husband and your baby. Your husband is there for support, and it should be you two together working through the first days as you both become parents. My advice... Stay in the UK!

I love going to the beach at night. I've discovered a couple of really quiet beaches in Jumeirah that I always go to to clear my mind or read.
I'm the same... I love to go and just lie down and look up on the beach at night, really clears my mind when needed

My favourite places to visit and wonder around are the lakes in our community - we're surrounded by around 4 or 5 huge manmade lakes that are perfect for an early morning or late evening walk with the pooch

Hi Louisella.... to answer your questions... 1) that's not unreasonable to add, don't worry, you can specify/request when hiring a maid that they must be pet-friendly 2) if you want to hire a live-out maid, be sure to hire through an agency... there's a lot of legalities surrounding the hiring of home help in the UAE so best to follow the correct channels to ensure you don't get into hot water or fined 3) just hide a key somewhere and inform the maid where it is to let herself in 4) it takes 4 hours once a week for our 2 bed to be cleaned, so 2 sessions for a 5 bed should be fine 5) no experience with them, but i'd recommend maids.cc or justmop -- the latter can be paid online ahead of booking

Excuse my ignorance ladies... What is the Keto diet?
It's a high-fat, low-carb diet which forces your body to burn fats rather than carbs

Thanks so much all. The Springs would be perfect due to the location as my dh works in Media City but we are currently keeping all options open with apartments being an option for the short term as...
You might have heard right - we moved to Springs last October, and already the rents have dropped again and again since... I have a friend who has said that there's rumours that deposits for purchasing a property may decrease to encourage more property owners to invest here in the expatriate communities... I'm the same as you, as much as I love our Springs home I'd love to be able to purchase it or one similar! It's only the deposit that's the killer... E.g. looking at a 1.8mil AED villa needs up to 600k AED deposit/service fees, after that monthly mortgage payments can be as little as 6k

Have only ever used it twice -- and I was driving to Al Qudra early in the morning and virtually no other cars around me... But i'd never turn it on on SZR or SMBZR for example... For this reason! It's always in my mind that it could go faulty, despite our car having services as and when it should. On the motorways here, I don't think it's needed at all.. I'd much prefer to have control of the car in case anyone else decides to swerve in front of me

Hi Thanks so much for the suggestion. I'll check them out. I reached out to some company's and a flower pot is like Aed 1200 which is so ridiculous... Do you know where I can get some nice flowe...
Ah okay for plant pots try Dubai Garden Center on SZR, they have a huge back yard filled with different styles and colours and sizes so you'll no doubt find a couple you like there

You're lucky it's incredibly hot most of the year - which means there's a lot of things to do in Dubai indoors... Some suggestions of the top of my head... Burj Khalifa, ice-skating in Dubai Mall, Ski Dubai, bowling, the Gary Rhodes experience at MOE cinema - apparently it's worth the try at least once!! Not forgetting the abundance of malls and shopping available, which makes any rainy day feel better as you splurge! To be fair, we like to sit out at restaurants under a brolly when it's raining just to make the most of the little bit we get here... Hope your visitors have a great time!

Our old landlords lived in Oz and we had our real estate agent collect the cheques (Better Homes), and I believe either he or their Power of Attorney then submitted them on behalf of the landlord... Just double check with your landlord, as they own property here they must have a legal representative of power of attorney here in-country to assist in situations such as this

I see both sides- as a dog owner myself I am often left frustrated because of the lack of safe spaces for dogs to run around. I agree that those owners that let them off the leash and don't clean up after them should be held accountable- it's sad thought that there's not many places we can take for our pooch to have a safe run around. Dogs shouldn't be in kids play areas here anyway so that's illegal, next time it happens just kindly suggest they move away from the park... but appreciate there's not many places to take dogs in Dubai!

Burn the place down..... Jokes! I'm afraid just a lot of cockroach killer spray like Raid will be needed until the little creeps get the hint. If it's too out of hand, I'm sure pest control will most definitely be worth the dirhams A little home-made DIY recipe for cockroach killer is boric acid, cornstarch or sugar... the latter too attract them, while the acid kills them... Wouldn't know where to find boric acid in Dubai though

As much as it makes me cringe that people blame the change in the weather for their illness, it's just too much of a coincidence too often in Dubai Although, it's no doubt just the A/C we're constantly sat in, sand in the air and smokey joes all about the place.. And don't forget, we all lack Vitamin D while living here! Ha!

Oh, and regarding the springs we will still have a look at the villas but I heard that some of them are in a very bad condition unless they are upgraded.
You're right, it's true - some of the older ones are in horrid conditions, but if you're able to view several you might find that one that's been maintained properly. We'd almost given up hope before moving to our new villa but thankfully found it and it's in great condition It's really worth considering if you want a true community feel and vibe - we love our walks to the town centre, round the lakes, it's so close to the golf clubs and Dubai Marina and the metro for when visitors come

Can't stand Atkins - not for me. Slimming World is much easier to follow and stick to... with chocolate treats allowed in it too, ha! Can't not have choccy biscuit after dinner

I'd suggest to review all options, financially and time-wise... If she can arrange a dog-sitter or walker to come during the day, or arrange daycare, then surely it's better for the pup to stay with the family they've no doubt fallen in love with?

Hi ladies, seeking restaurant/bar recommendations within walking distance of Dubai Opera. TIA
It's only a short distance to Souk Al Bahar and Dubai Mall where there's plenty of options... My husband and I like to visit Claw some weekends, which is licensed, or otherwise Carluccio's is a great spot to sit outside and enjoy the fountains

I'm not familiar myself, but one would assume that in order to work in Bahrain, you'd need a Bahrain work permit/residence visa... Would the Dubai company/contract provide this for you? Otherwise, what industry are you in? There may be some available jobs in your field of work in Bahrain itself to save you potential stress

I highly, highly, highly recommend the Springs - depending on your budget, rent at the moment for a sizeable 2 bedroom with study is around 110 - 120k. We're in Springs 2 and are paying 130k which is top of the bracket for the area and size of the house. Media City is less than 10 minutes drive from us. Lovely sized driveways, gardens, shared pools and lots of lakes to walk around if you have a dog!

I have a friend who recently moved there and she's said it's lovely - the houses are much bigger than what you'd find in Springs/Ranches for same price... A little bit further away in terms of driving, but i'm sure as with any new community in Dubai it will feel finished and more of a community in the coming months.. There'll be a mall there too won't there?
