hello and good afternoon i would like to ask a question please as I'm looking for advice, no one seems to know when you ring lawyers, I'm getting a little frustrated and seem to be going around in circle does anyone have first hand experience of this scenario as a british christian is it better to divorce in my home country UK or uae? (we are both british and christian) if in uae are the assets split, do you get spousal maintenance? or is it better to do the divorce in the uk. will the courts in uk be able to enforce financial orders from the uk to the uae, basically can they force him to pay me in the uk? I've lived in the uk since 2016, he still lives in uae runs own business. married 43 years and no dependant children. we lived together in uae for 15 years. do you also know if they tell him that he is going to be served with a divorce petition before they actually serve him - hopefully he will be served in the uk when he's here soon on business. many thanks for any help. its much appreciated in advance x I have a family member that has just been through the same thing.. British Christian getting divorced. Her and her now ex-husband opted to divorce via the Dubai Courts, which was an easy enough process after they had a legal agreement drawn up by a lawyer here. The UAE is very family orientated, and gives tremendous support for women here - so you may find the divorce agreement favours you tremendously more than what it might do in the UK. However, they have children, and so the agreement states a legally binding monthly payment be paid to her in the UK (she's moving back) - she also receives a sum for her, however this doesn't continue if she is in a relationship with someone longer than 6 months. You will get a cut of that business of his however, so make sure you don't lose out in that instance. If you can both come to a civilised agreement to visit a lawyer in the UAE, you may be surprised that it's a lot easier -- my family member was divorced within 3 weeks.

We don't live there but my husband and I have considered moving to the Springs this year... But, we've found equally as nice places, if not cheaper, in Al Reem in Arabian Ranches that you might want to look at? We went to a couple of open houses at the weekend in this area and all seemed fine Springs are so lovely and well landscaped and finished for the most part, but for something newer for the same price bracket, I'd recommend Al Reem

TOTW is one of the BEST dog foods you can get. My two love it and we've never had any issues. However, they are medium sized, mixed breeds so have a pretty hard digestive system. Maltese can be a bit sensitive. You might want to ask this question on a certain group dealing with dogs in the emirate. TY FairyDust, you've settled my mind :) she's been fed TOTW so far and everything's fine, so I see no reason to disrupt her system if she's already used to it? Thanks again

When our eldest was a toddler she loved her dummy. But then came the day I thought I must get her to give it up. The endless nights I would sit on the floor by her tiny bed helping her settle to sleep without it. But then one day I finally cracked it. I threw away all the dummies in the house and for 2 weeks she did amazing. Then one day I was in the kitchen and in she wandered and said 'look mummy'. She had a dummy in her mouth that had obviously been hiding amongst her toys. I quickly said oh let me see it.... she gave it to me and I got some scissors, turned away from her and sneakily cut the top of the teat off and gave it back to her. She once again put it into her mouth. I said no there is something wrong with it and asked for it back again. I turned my back and cut the whole of the remaining teat off it so it was just the holder and said oh it is ok now. And gave it back to her. She tried putting it back into her mouth and looked at it. I carried on preparing dinner pretending to ignore her reaction. She left it on the side and walked away to play. When I look back now it was so cruel but also very funny. Evil mother. I honestly don't blame you... My SIL is still trying to pry the dummy out of her 5 year old's hands! Will share your tactic with her  Not a parent, but I have an auntie-fail... I was sat on the couch and my niece was desperately trying to get me up to play, but as she pulled I pulled and 'pop' she begins wailing and screaming 'my arm, my arm'... Nothing had happened, she'd just pulled a little too hard Safe to say I felt guilty for about 2 years after

I'm surprised this hasn't been brought up yet! no, I'm not American but am following the election closely... While most polls point to a Clinton win so far, I was wondering what any Dubai-based Americans are thinking right now? We won't find out until tomorrow morning, too here in the UAE My husband is American and he really hopes that Trump wins, he says anything can happen since the candidates are within 5% of votes difference from each other. Hope the lesser of two evils will get elected and in my opinion it's Trump. Can I ask why Trump? I'm British and i find this veryyy familiar with the Brexit campaign... Noone thought it would happen, but alas... It did Companies are blaming Brexit as an excuse to rip people off. Walkers Crisps (British company that uses British ingredients.....) Marmite (oooh, I love Marmite) and now Toblerone have done something dodgy to their chocolate. We're all doomed, I tell you. Doomed! Anyway, sorry. I digress. I don't know much about politics but if I was American I'd hate to have to choose between those two. Hahahaaha, agreed! God if America goes belly up does that mean we lose oreos?

This is the most recent information that I can find on the new visa rules. We also know someone who received a big fine upon his exit. http://www.propartnergroup.com/category/blog/ Always check information. I've been going with go tours (visa run company). They counter the information this blog posted. You do not need to stay out for 24 hours. http://www.gotoursdubai.com I second the recommendation of Go Tours - I used them for my own visa run a couple of years ago and the whole journey was stress-free and smooth

We call it the bum gun! We use it to clean the bath but never for its intended purpose. The cubicles in the loos where I work are awful. Wish people would dry up after themselves. Mind you, when they chuck used paper towels on the floor right next to the bin, it doesn't surprise me. The lazy, dirty mares  Same for the bath... And to fill a bucket up for mopping the floor

You see, in comparison to the UK where I'm from, the driving age is 17. So what difference does a one year age difference make in terms of responsibility and maturity? HOWEVER Dubai's roads can be dangerous enough as it is, with maturer drivers still unable to grasp road and driving safety. Driving age needs to be 21, eat least... Perhaps they could limit age to size of engine etc. So only 25s can drive a larger sized engine. Or make insurance policies ridiculously high for younger drivers to deter them.

Throughout summer holidays in general, I don't see an issue with encouraging your kid(s) to do a little extra credit in preparation for the next term.. While abroad? I guess it depends on the nature of your trip abroad. If it's a family vacation for one, two or maybe three weeks to somewhere new then absolutely not. Kids need a break too! If you're evacuating the country for the entire length of summer and heading 'home', then I'd treat it the same as my former point.

Which gym specifically do you go to? The gym in my own building. You'll have to check with your building regulations and security if they allow external PTs to help you train in your gym.. I know my building doesn't let external PTs use our facilities Never understood the extra need to spend lots of money on PTs, if you're in the right frame of mind and want to do a healthy fitness regime, you'll do it

Ultimately a family holiday is exactly that... A holiday as a family. These mums who escape the heat with the kids without their husbands I wouldn't say are exactly having a holiday. Especially when many go to their home countries - my SIL does it every year and if i'm honest, it's more of a pain for family members who have their home invaded for two months but as it's "family", won't say anything It's not good for kids to spend such long periods of time away from their dads, but if its the only way the family can "survive" summer, who am I to judge I appreciate it's far too hot during summer. But it's not just children who "can't cope"- us adults who have to stay put and work have to deal with it. And we find plenty to do to keep ourselves entertained. There's plenty for children to do, too - it's just a case of being a little more imaginative indoors... Many folks I know feel guilty because their children aren't getting the "summers" we had as children in the UK. But why not make your summer here filled with memories instead of clinging onto nostalgia?

It gets boring when we go back to the UK all the time, and they come to Dubai... So our plan is to meet up with families in different countries that are sort-of half-way between us. Spend quality time together and explore a new place! As for who we'd do that with... I'd prefer my own mother, but I wouldn't say no to my in-laws.

for the private sector it has already been declared as 1st and 2nd day of Shawal... which can be either of the two following scenarios: - if the fast only lasts 29 days, then this will result in the holiday being Tuesday (5th) and Wednesday (6th) - if the fast lasts for the full 30 days, then this will result in a four day weekend for most as the holiday will be Wednesday (6th) and Thursday (7th) I think even if it it's only 29 days, that many companies will just allow their employees to have Wednesday and Thursday off to combine with the weekend
