Bubbalicious is fantastic if you're willing to spend a bit more than normal -- and it's a great mix of every food and drink and kind of person you can think of! Great for the party goers, and great for families too! If you're not too fussed for just bubbly, JLT's McGettigan's do brunch for 200 from 12-4, and then for an additional 150 you can drink all you like from 4 until 9. Mess comes to mind! Check out Beachcombers too?

One of my family members recently used classifieds on EW to find a maid/nanny and found no problems, plenty of applications and has now secured a lady! Just try both, especially if most classifieds are free like here - what do you have to lose?

This year I have made it a point not to buy toys for children anymore because of so many different reasons. Instead, I make sure my child asks her friends what they are interested in and I buy them a book about it. Instead of filling their house with plastic toys that are sure to break and lose the child's interest quickly, I think books help enrich a child's life in many ways. I don't care if it's a book about bugs, Lego Movie, Star Wars, etc. Whatever interests the child, that's what I buy. I've never had to spend more than 60-75 dhs (even for a hardback book). Great advice! :)

Card, 50 dirhams in it and inside write 'this gift contributes towards your future'. Clearly the best gift in the world! But seriously, I'd like to think you could spend whatever amount you wish depending on your child's relationship with the other kid. Be stingy, be generous - there's no guidelines. Like another poster has said, it's the thought that counts. If you're that worried - make something.

Hi McDubai - aesthetically, I've heard that WA looks great and ticks the boxes in terms of location and amenities. However, something to bear in mind that Select Group are considered to be b-grade in terms of quality and hence I would always recommend Emaar over Select if you were to compare the 2. You will really notice the different in terms of quality of build, finishing and maintenance. Also Select Group are the developers for Torch Tower which is presently under investigation for using cladding which is flammable and Im aware there have been other quality issues with the likes of Yacht Bay and The Point. However, if your daughter is just renting, I think convenience / cost may override quality issues (which would mainly concern owners) and WA isn't a bad option This is true -- Select Group is both WA and Torch Tower. In fact, us at WA actually had issues with some fire alarms randomly going off near the beginning of this year but they've stopped now and the system's working better!

Yeah I live in West Avenue! Perfect for young couples or singles, amazing finish and looks sleek and modern. My husband and I love our apartment completely! But.... we have had a lot of trouble with leaks/plumbing/AC/smells and a lot of the people we have spoke to in the building are leaving at the end of their tenancy this year due to the issues. It's a new build though, so me and my husband are quick to forgive because it is such a great tower and basically all the kinks just need ironing out as with any new development. Plus great location!! Hope that helps! Thanks a lot for the information Haim! :) As you write, what new tower in Dubai doesn't come with some early kiddo-deceases :) .. However, it's somewhat worrisome that that you've had a lot of problems and that many people have decided to move out for those reasons. How often does it occur when you write "a lot"? :) In regards of the smell, is it easily fixed or it's a constant bad smell? Many thanks in advance!! When we first moved in the AC smelled constantly, but it was quickly resolved once the maintenance guys had realised there was a latch open in the ceiling. It's not been as bad as then since. I think we're lucky tenants of WA as if we come home to a small smell recently, it's quickly resolved with a blast of the AC and doesn't hang around and it really doesn't bother us. It's not a nasty smell for us, and it does happens rarely in our apartment nowadays. A guy we spoke to in the lift says he has it constantly though :( We had a leak in the wall that has now finally been fixed after 6 months of nagging maintenance, too. It was coming from next door's bathroom so understandable. Fixed now though! It's a gorgeous building, but I do not wish to fib - it has come with its stressful moments. We've lived in WA since July now, and now we've kind of got a love-hate relationship with maintenance we get things resolved quickly. For example, we had a bulb blow and they needed a new transformer or something... Fixed quickly after persistent nagging. I advise your daughter to come and have a look at the building, check out an apartment and she'll be able to tell... The gym and the pool are gorgeous, and a new shop has just opened at the bottom. It's a 2 minute walk from the beach and the metro and Dubai Marina Mall so I'm happy as larry most days! Great views too. If she decides to go with WA, make sure she checks everything and anything in that apartment - as with any building - and have any worry or troubles fixed before she moves in. The building is still under warranty so all building maintenance once moved in is free until July :D

Does anyone have up to date info on expat kids' eligibility for unemployment benefit when they return to the UK as adults? I read something about having to reside for six months before claiming. Is this still true? TIA No they are not eligible for job seeker's allowance or any benefits upon return if they have lived abroad and not paid any NI contributions in the UK. The rules changed in January 2014 to prevent immigrants from coming over and immediately getting benefits from the UK , there is now a habitual residence test interview for all applicants including returning British citizens who lived overseas. Rightly so. edited by chezmoi on 14/04/2015 OP, to develop chezmoi's point -- for the habitual residence test it says there is different requirements dependent on whether you're from European countries or not. Am I right in thinking that my husband and I can just pay on the day at the door, with our resident's discount? We've got visitors and they're panicking about availability at the park and lost chambers so they've all booked using an attraction site. I remember the last time we visited 5 years ago it was just pay on the door? Yes you can. Just remember your Emirates ID I knew I was right! Thanks sarahlou123

If it's the same process as degree attestation, I believe you'll have to go to the British Council here in Dubai, and then send your documents off to the UAE Embassy in London.

I'm a relative newbie on this forum, so I don't know about the halcyon days of yore which other posters refer to...... but one thing I think is a bit odd is I can't understand why they don't allow posters to email each other. Dunno, shouldn't we be free to choose if we want to meet up outside of the coffee morning thing? Like Daza says, I think there are some genuinely helpful people on here who are a source of useful information, but the moderators seem pretty vigilant and there aren't exactly a lot of fun topics. The most entertaining threads I've seen on here were provided by the infamous Moonflower...... But Moonflower was a troll, and nobody's got time for that!

Why can't they have their conversations on the way to the car? edited by Geordie expat on 02/04/2015 The fines need to be bigger AED200 isn't a lot and you have a year to pay it plus they see everyone else do it so they do. :-( Yep I agree, harsher penalties are needed. I had never seen so many men in basques haha Oh, yeah! I poured myself into a little white latex number (obviously pre Dubai TWO stone lol) There were definitely some sights. Watching middle aged men with beer bellies wearing thongs, sussies and stilettos is a sight to behold  I wonder if the UAE will ever be ready for Dr Frank N Furter..... edited by Made in Sheffield on 25/03/2015 Haha, I am rather jealous! There is so much negative press in the UK, every time you open a paper or switch on the news it is always negative. They don't seem to report any positive news and i'm sure this affects everyone's mood. The cold, wet weather doesn't help either! Unfortunately I know as having trained as a journo in the UK... The most depressing/sad/worst news gets the hits/views/sold papers = £££! The pending election could also be blamed! In a few months a potentially new leader - will they make the changes needed to make Britain Great again! Have you all registered to Vote? I don't like any of them. hence lies the problem Agreed sarahlou123. edited by Haim on 22/03/2015

http://a.pgtb.me/XLtgRc Hahaha it's pretty funny. Im a Sloppy Joe Is it to do with expats or cleaning? You are a Cool Cat! RAWWR (yes sounds like me) You are the perfect balance between keeping it real and keeping it clean. If unexpected guests would come over, your cat like instincts of burying dirty laundry would kick in. You are not obsessively clean, but you like to keep it neat, just like a cat. [b'>Your motto is if no one can see the mess, then there is no mess.[/b'> You love nothing better than to cuddle on clean bed sheets, but cleaning them is not your job, it’s somebody else’s! Be a pampered kitty by hiring part-time maid. Lie around, eat tune, stretch, while someone else does the work. Sounds perrrfect. Snap! I'm a Cool Cat, too  edited by Haim on 19/03/2015

They definitely are the weaker gender. No women are the weaker gender for letting this kind of nonsense happen. I don't think it's exactly a question of gender vs. gender. It will vary couple to couple, marriage to marriage. OP sounds like you've had a sucky morning. It's okay to complain about it.

Any gynecologist should be willing to remove an IUD. The only potentially painful bit is their use of a speculum (if they're not skilled), then it's out in 5 seconds. I had mine removed by Dr Zainab Kazim at Al Shunnar Clinic in Jumeira. Thank you for the recommendation!
