I went looking for this a few weeks back for my LO but had no luck. In fact the pharmacist at the third place I went to told me that many pharmacies refuse to sell it. It's been banned in many countries because apparently studies have found it causes asthma. He did give me an alternative though and it works wonders. It's from the Himalaya brand, it's all natural too, it's called Bonnisan. You might like to give that a try if you don't manage to find gripe water :)

Hmmmm, not quite sure. I do remember reading online somewhere that it is a criminal offence to be pregnant outside of marriage in Dubai, though Im not sure what the consequences are. I just remeber reading that because when going in for delivery we have to carry our marriage certificates as proof of relationship. Sorry I cant give you a more definitive answer....maybe you could ring a family lawyer and ask for some advice?

Does anyone have any information regarding how long it takes for the visa to come through? My little one is due any time now, and am planning a visit back home in March. Just wondering does that leave me enough time to apply for LO's visa and get his passport back inorder to travel or should I do this apon return?

I wish I had but had already paid for a package so couldn't, unless I paid again with another hospital. I did however do my research. Just ask your current hospital/doctor for your medical file, including any scans etc that you have had done and take that with you to your new doctor. I was also told, that sometimes, even though you have a certain scan done, your new doc may request for you to do another. HTH :)

Thanks ladies. You raise a very valid point australiajudy. I guess I have some investigative work to do to see what our status really is. I wouldn't mind claiming it if we can. Our company insurance isn't covering maternity so that money could certainly go towards covering that cost!

Its amazing the effect a little baby growing in our bellies can have on our minds!

Im new to the whole pediatrician thing. Back home we would just see a GP for any baby related issues. Im a soon to be FTM, and the way our insurance is set up currently, maternity/dependants are not covered....though Im hoping the dependant part changes soon! Anyone have any idea of the costs related to seeing a pead?

Hi, Thanks for taking the time to respond. Appreciated much. I actually didn't even bother to consider the baby bonus because I just assumed being out of the country we would not be eligible. But talking to a friend back home yesterday, she told me to look into it because her friends sister who is in Doha applied for it and got it. I wasnt aware they were stopping it completely? I know the amount has reduced from $5000 to $3000. I just thought it would be nice to get something back from the Government instead of always having to give! Will tell hubby to give it a shot! :D

I was just wondering if we are entitled/eligible to claim for the baby bonus whilst overseas? Does anyone have any experience/information regarding this?

Hi Everyone, I hope this post finds everyone in good health and spirits. I just recently stumbled across this website a few nights ago. One of many sleepless nights that I have been having due to the CRAZY heartburn that I have been enduring. Though, having said that, I finally gave in yesterday and bought me some gaviscon and I wish Id done it sooner. I had the best sleep Iv had in five months! So for anyone out there suffering the same, give it a go! You may not look back! Well, I should probably introduce myself. All my friends and family call me Hana. I am originally from New Zealand. Ever since I met my husband Iv been moving from country to country as he is in the hospitality industry and has very itchy feet! We've been in Dubai about 3 months now and just before coming here I found out I was pregnant. It wasnt planned but we shall accept this as a blessing. Im currently just at home at the moment which is new for me. I have never not worked since I was 16 but Im having trouble finding a job here. No respones and if there are they would prefer someone not pregnant. :/ Quite disappointing because as a result Im struggling to meet people. Or make friends. So anyone else out there feeling lonely you have yourself a companion! Im due on November 30, which is not too far away! My next scan is scheduled for Monday which Im excited about so I can confirm the gender. Hubby's work recommended City Hospital so that is what we stuck with. Im hoping to meet some other moms to be. Would be great to chat to people who know what Im going through etc. And hopefully occupy some of my time! I have plenty to spare! Hear from you soon! :) Hana
