we use it quiete a bit to buy toys (mostly lego) from the us. it works well and is quite fast (usually a couple of days)... shipping cost are sometimes higher than expected though as they the packaging can become heavy and it all counts towards the weight, but overall, we still save 30 to 40 % on the toys...

my husband always uses parmar's in bur dubai - suit is about 3000 though but if you bring your own fabric i believe it's around 2000. they do make a lot of margin on the fabric, so prob better to buy your own

we used to go a lot to fujairah, royal meridien - but (depending on budget) try st regis in abu dhabi - the kids club is toddler heaven, a small water paradise - the beach is beautiful and hotel really nice - also much less of a ride compared to oman or fujeirah with the little ones...

Hi, I am looking to get a website set up but I have a very limited budget, can anyone recommend anyone? The website needs to also have a shop to sell about 300 different products categorised under about 5 headings. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks you should try elance.com - just post the project and see the proposals come in - i have used it several times for my small business (mostly for programming but you will find everything there)

Ladies, any recommendations for removal companies in Dubai. Moving out of Springs although not sure where to yet. Perhaps JVC or JVT. Details of recent experiences would be helpful.. Many thanks. We moved several times - first with euro-movers, then with orbit I believe - they were both decent. Found them through movesouq.com ...[url=www.movesouq.com'>link[/url'> - they give you several quotes and ratings and you just pick, found it very easy... Good luck edited by happysarah76 on 07/01/2014 edited by happysarah76 on 07/01/2014

I had a few friends use delight (they seem to be the biggest one in abu dhabi) but with mixed reviews. We used GAC a few years ago when we were in abu dhabi and they were good. I would also recommend you try movesouq - used them in dubai and believe they are also active in abu dhabi - they actually get you several quotes, takes away the hassle of negotiating yourself.. edited by happysarah76 on 01/01/2014

Same frustration here esepcially with a 4 year old lego addict in the house :) - anyone any experience with Aramex? They seem to have a serivce where you get a US po box and then you can buy from us sites and aramex then ships it - would love to hear whether anyone has tried this?

My husband used to work in Qatar while we stayed here with family - he was there 2-3 days a week. I have to say I don't fully echo negative sentiment - yes, it does not have the vibe of dubai and is more expensive, but Qataris are really really nice and much more approachable than a lot of people in Dubai. Not sure currently about real estate - bay area + pearl is quite expensive (similar to downtown dubai) but there are cheaper, more real areas there too... Shipping car is about 2000 AED for land transport. A friend just shipped one through movesouq.com - he got quotes ranging from 1700 - 4000 aed (depends apparently on how you ship it) - he took cheap one by land. I don't think there was any issue with guarantee but it seems to be brand dependent. Good luck! Doha is actually not a bad place :)

There is a very good hairspa/clinic close to Health care city in bur dubai. I believe it is called hairspa.ae - they are really very caring and passionate about hair issues - also very discrete. I have seen amazing results there and it is quite affordable... Depending on the issues, they have different treatments, going from hair botox (don't ask, but it is really nice, just a special treatment) to hair replacements... Lots of Muslim women I know go there. Good luck!

check pinkentropy.com - they are just launching in Dubai - a digital marketing agency with current team of 7 or 8 and I've heard they are looking for account managers. They did the brand development and creative work + website development for a good friend of mine and he was very impressed with the team, very creative but also business oriented.. Send your cv to [email protected] - mention me (sarah), you never know...

Kirkidium is right - really depends on the activity. There are a lot of video production companies/events/pr companies in media city and jlt (both are freezones). However, you are not supposed to do business outside the freezone but in reality this is barely enforced, most companies do business outside (but if you run into eg contract issues, this will be an issue)... You need to make the trade-off between location and cost of it vs license fees and restrictions. E.g. internet city is very nice for a company like this, but rents are high (about 160 aed/sqft/year) vs jlt where rents are around 100 aed/sqft. License fees are second important cost (mainland is usually a bit cheaper, but you will have sponsor fees)... Having gone through these a few times, it sounds to me (depending on your budget), that easiest thing is to set up a company in either media city or jlt (or consider silicon oasis)... If the company is small, you can rent space in a business center (about 5-6k aed/month for a small office) and if things pick up you can still move to the mainland if there are specific requirements. Set-up will take about 6-8 weeks to work through all the paperwork but there are a lot of companies who can help do that for around 5-6k aed and trust me it is worth it. hope this helps

My husband is a strong hypochondriac so I have to deal with these all the time :) - best things is still lots of hot water, with pieces of fresh ginger and lots of lemon and honey in it.... Alternatively, panadol flu mixture also to put in hot water... will also make you sleep better
