Thanks all - as a South African passport holder I am used to having to apply for a visa prior to travel but never have I experienced problems like this to obtain a visa! Holding thumbs I can sort one out through a hotel now....

I have traveled several times to Qatar and bought my visa at the airport. I don't have a manager or engineer's visa, but haven't had any issues. Maybe it is a nationality thing? Thanks Marroosh - maybe it is... I'm a South African passport holder.

Hi ladies, I wanted to let you know that I posted my car on Dubizzle today with a pretty honest account of the car not working currently and I am happy to say that I have sold it "as is" for a decent amount. Unfortunately finding 20k and then selling the car was not looking like a possibility for me. Thanks again for all your comments and posts!

I started going to Eldine at Roots Salon based on a referral from a friend. She's a South African girl who specialises in colours, so if that's your thing... I definitely recommend her! I pay just under AED700 for a colour (highlights), cut and blow.

I know it's been a long time since I updated on my car situation, sorry - it's really got me down in the dumps :( Anyway, I took my car to Dexxol over the weekend and the manager there managed to explain things to me in girl talk.... basically saying that my car is stuffed! There is some special coding or something that only VW can do (apparently) however Dexxol can help me out by taking the car in and handling it all themselves - taking it to VW and dealing with them directly etc. It's still going to cost me between AED15-20k to fix. Anyone know of a scrapyard that gives good prices???

Lolacat, thanks for the tip on how to get him in (newbie cat owner here, sorry!) I think I'll go home and give that a quick try tonight without the added stress of then taking him to the vet.

Thank you sooo much for all your comments and advice! I have done some research online and what I've found is that this mechatronic fault issue is not cheap :( I will definitely call Dexol and ask them what they say! Tazmin, the jerking happens only in first gear and then it's perfect. It was this jerking that made me take the car in and was told by my VW "certified" mechanic (where the previous owner and I have been taking the car for services) that it was the mechatronic unit. They then said that they can replace the parts, but it will need special coding which only VW can fix... so off to VW I went, only to be told it'll cost AED20k. I didn't get a quote from the first guys because they said they couldn't do the whole job so I thought it wasn't worth my while. Thanks again all - will be calling Dexol and hopefully have a better outcome from all of this!

Thanks for your response Sarahlou. My car is sitting on almost 140k km's... I bought it when it was at 100k so I am uncertain if it had the 70k fluid change. I do know that it hasn't been serviced at VW for a loooooong time - when I bought it the guy gave me the workshops details where he had been taking it; they are supposed to be VW certified, but are not VW. It's not looking very positive right now for me - am going to have to get it fixed and then hope that nothing else goes wrong at huge costs.

Wordpress.com is a great free blogging site, and they offer lots of support if you get stuck. What's confusing with them though is the amount of variety that you have to choose from (which isn't a bad thing ;) ) You need to have an idea in mind of what you're wanting to do, then head over to wordpress and browse their hundreds of free templates that you can use to set up your blog. It takes a bit of time to get it just right, and the great thing about wordpress is that you can preview anything before you set your mind to it. And you can change it as many times as you like once you've made your decision! I'm constantly changing mine by tweaking a little here and there, and I've had my blog with them for almost 3 years now. Happy blogging! It's addictive :)

Hi there! I am looking for a Pilates instructor who is available to come to my office on alternate Mondays or Wednesdays (so effectively twice a month) and teach a Pilates class of between 4 - 8 people. The class generally would run at 3:30pm or 4pm, for one hour; but we can be a bit flexible... discussions can take place. Please get in touch with me if you are interested, or know of anyone who is! Thanks! Hazel

Hi ladies, I'm in the process of changing jobs and one offer is to move to a friends company; however his company is not currently set up to have any employees. Does anyone know how he goes about setting this up? I have tried searching online but my searches don't seem to give the right information as they all seem to point at starting up a business, and not give info on how to set the business up for employing staff (other than himself.) Any assistance is appreciated! Thanks!
