Yes, we are telling her that we are recording her. Also, we want to see the baby from work during the day. Yes, I have a friend that was deported for shipping a nanny cam from the US, so I'm fully aware not to do that. Thanks, I'll check out the shop in city center. Anyone else have another shop to check out here in Qatar.

ew never disappoints with the sarcasm! it's been a really expensive month for us just getting her here, so i need to establish some allowances. i really need her to be accessible by phone, so i got her a cell phone, but i need to establish some rules with the calling--she has a lot of family here so i have a feeling it's going to get sticky. any ideas to keep it clear?

Has anyone brought their plug in Baby Swing/ Bouncer from the US? Does it work when you plug it in here?

Hello, I will be delivering in Hamad and I am looking for a recommended doula here in Doha. Let me know if you any of you can highly recommend one and what your experience was like. Thank you! edited by hbs on 19/06/2011

In my experience here, the job offer usually follows right away in writing.

Did anyone mention Pauls in Landmark? They have a nice selection in the mornings, but it goes quickly!

And out of curiosity, how much do you pay your live out maid?

Do you know if this if for maids only to Dubai or is it a problem any where in the ME? I am living in Doha, Qatar and I am thinking about bringing a nanny from the philipines, but would like to avoid extra charges.

Joanne S - that sounds amazing! how did you find a nurse? i'm pregnant and due in September and plan to return back to work in the New Year. i'm already nervous about leaving a newborn with a nanny, but would feel more comfortable if she had experience as a nurse. any suggestions for finding one?

thanks that's much clearer about the process at hamad. kiwispiers: when i mean best interest of your baby, i mean best care for the baby in case of emergency. i am understanding that if something is wrong with your baby at delivery it is automatically sent to hamad. so i rather be in the same hospital than in another one. have you heard otherwise?

thanks umhasoomiBLOG. i'm glad that they improved. it's my first child so i'd like to be prepared as possible esp. regarding expectations. how do i request a midwife? you deliver in a shared room and then switch to a private room? i thought most delivery rooms were private? ccdoha - how can i request a doula? is this different than a midwife? i do have a nanny that will be with me.

thanks taxi mum. i actually heard that if i deliver at al ahli my chances for a c-section are much higher than at hamad. i can already imagine hamad and their scare tactics as i am already going there for my check-ups and do not get the warm and fuzzy feeling. but i want to do what's best for the baby's care and if that means going to hamad, then i'll do it!

thanks! i'm feeling more comfortable with it. it just seems like most expats go home for delivery but i really can't see myself spending 30,000USD (worst case scenario - with C-section!!) for a delivery that can be done here.

Also, if you buy the materials from a curtain shop of your choice they will customize them to your windows. They only charged me 450 (for 4 windows) to re sew and hang (including curtain rod) but I bought the fabric from Sedar.

That sounds like a rip off. I just got eight windows with wooden blinds custom made for 3895. Curtains should be much cheaper than wooden blinds. It's a bit of a challenge to get to this curtain shop as they are located in Souq Najma, but it's worth the trip: Lamtara Carpet-Curtains-Furniture Shahid Ullah 55873153 Siraz Uddin 55852879 Main # 44315592

I would also like to know about the maid agencies, if I can't find a good match or sponsor one on my own. Unfortunately, it seems to be more difficult than I thought, maybe the agency will be much easier.

Hello, I am 15 weeks pregnant and have been going to Hamad for my check ups. I am considering going to the US for delivery but I've heard of good things about Hamad. It's a hassle that my husband can't come with me to the check-ups and I heard that he can't come with me when I deliver. Is this true? Also, are the private rooms really expensive? I heard it's the best to get for comfort of delivery. Also, is there a large blood supply at Hamad just in case of heavy blood loss during delivery??
