Hi Ladies, I lived in Dubai from 2011-2014 and went back to the US and now moving back there again at the end of this summer. It seems the laws have changed a lot in regards to bringing a maid from the phillipines. Is it true you can't bring someone from the phillipines and you can only have a Phillipina maid that already lived in Dubai? I know of a woman who would like to be my housekeeper, but lives in the Phillipines. Is there anyway I can bring her on a visitor visa, then apply for get once she's here? Any info is greatly appreciated!! I keep hearing different information!! Thanks again!

Hi, We are going through the exact same thing. Unfortunately, effective 3 weeks ago, immigration developed a new law that all visas have to be canceled when switching employers. It used to be that just the sponsor had to cancel and the families visas were on hold, until the new visa was issued. Its really irritating, because everything has to be redone. Not only the visas, but medicals and emirate ids etc.

Thanks again for your replies! Yes, Tara it is frusterating because if they get caught the sponsor is penelized. I just cant take that risk......My maid does strictly house work and I have three small children and my husband travels often. He initailly pushed me to get one just to have an extra hand if needed. Anyway, for now, she will remain a live in.

My sister took her 16 and 13 y.o. daughters there and they loved it!! Kayaking and white water rafting as well as a wave pool. I have small kids myself and she said the pool area is nice for them, however your husband couldnt take them with him if he wanted to the adventerous activities. Maybe another adult sould go with him and they could take turns.

Hi Ladies, I have a live in maid who is requesting to be a live out maid so that she can do extra work to make extra money. I heard that this is illegal? Is it? Do most live outs have side jobs on the weekends.....I'm so confused :/ I would actually prefer her to be a live out because she can finish all the house work with in 3-4 hours. If anyone has some experience in this subject I would appreciate your feedback!! TIA

Hi Sleepy! I am 4 months pregnant. I am in desperate need of long sleeve tops only. If you have any to spare that would be great, I can come by tomorrow at your convenience. My email is my user name at gmail. Much appreciated if you have anything left. Thanks for your generosity.

Hi ladies, I am new to Dubai from the states and my dad and step mom are coming to visit late March. We are originally Palestinian, so language is not an issue, but I was curious if anyone had any suggestions on nice places to go. My dad is in his 70's, a healthy 70, but would not do major strenuous activities. He loves nature and loves cultural things. We were also thinking of going to Oman, but I have not been able to find a good tour.....any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!! edited by hebahj on 08/02/2012

Hi, I just moved here, also from the US and my husband travels too.....Its very common here to have a live in. We are not used to that in the US......Everyone always says you have to get a live-in, however I started out with someone who cleans three times a week and I already fee la huge burden lifted off my shoulders!! Personally, I dont know how I would deal with someone being here ALL the time. Even though, I think it could be nice to have the extra help. Are you at home with the kids or do you work? I am home with one daughter who is three and the other is 5 and in school, and newly pregnant (keeping my fingers crossed) so I dont know what else I would do all day if someone was here as a live in. If I worked full time, I would def. get a live in to do at least all the house things and that would enable me all of my free time for the kids. Good luck!

Thnx everybody for their replies. My sister actually ended up going with somebody who ended up going to Oman everyday just to take people for visas. I t was easy and he picked her up along with a few others for 200 dhm. If you a re a group it actaully gets cheaper, but she went alone, so thats why its 200. If you have a family it probably is chea[er to take a cab or rent a car. I went with my husband and kids and we had no issues....it actually is a really simple process. *Munnus-thanks for offering!!

Hi Ladies, I just moved to dubai a couple weeks ago and am looking for a recommendation on a really great endocrinologist. I had a history of hyperthyroidism, then it was diagnosed as hoshimotos. I became stabilized after two years, but then I found out I had thyroid cancer and had the whole thyroid removed last jan today. I have been on thyroxin since, and feeling great. My endo in the states got my dosage right from the get-go. Therefore, I need a really good endo who is extremely knowledgeable. Any recommend. would be appreciated!! I live in JBR so nothing too far out there would be great :) thanks in advance!! Also, while im posting, if anyone can recommend a good female obgyn as well that would also be very helpful!!!! edited by hebahj on 25/01/2012

ok Taurus Rental is the only place that would allow it...all others have said that since you came in on an Employment visa and even if your residency is in progress, you're required to have a UAE license....so confusing! I'll consider Taurus if they're able to provide decent rates. In any case, does anyone have driver recommendations, and potential cost??? Thanks!

thanks for your replies. i will try again, but the two companies i've spoken with so far FAST, and National, have said that the laws have recently changed. you can only rent if you are in a tourist visa....anyhow my husband's passport is with the PRO for processing at the moment.

Hi All - we just arrived a little over a week ago and we were very lucky to find a spot for my daughter at EIS for January admission. She starts school on Sunday. We are in JBR and will need a driver to the Meadows in the mornings and afternoons. My husband's residency is in progress so we found out that we are unable to LEASE or even RENT a car until it has been processed. I guess previously you could at least rent? In any case, we are in a bit of a bind. We don't mind taxis for most things...but would be great to have a driver waiting for us in the morning and wait for me a few minutes outside of the school until my daughter gets settled in. She's in Grade 1 so I am sure she will be a bit clingy the first few days. If anyone has any recommendations or contact info please do share! We'd be interested in doing this for about 3 weeks or so. Thanks in advance!!!
