Hi both - thank you so very much for taking the time to reply :-) I will do some researching into my employment opportunities (I am a critical care senior nurse in the UK so maybe I will have a bit of luck)! I read that Sidra had ground to a halt in term of recruitment! Thanks Again!

Thankyou so much....we live in a small village in the UK so I think we would be OK with a couple trips per month into Doha! Do you drive MaryCatherine? I read conflicting reports about how this is! Is it perceived to be worse than Dubai? ...we backpacked in India - can't be much more chaotic than that! :-) Thanks again for taking the time to chat with me!

Hi MaryCatherine So sorry for the slow reply - I thought I would receive an email alert! Anyway, thank you so very much for taking the time to respond. I have been doing some reading and it seems that if I am hired locally (i.e find employment after we arrived) then I would be paid a lot less than if recruited from home? Does that sound right? It's difficult to find information about Dukan school - our eldest daughter is 12 so it is an important decision! Do you work at all? Good to hear that Dukan is a nice place though :-) Have you been in Qatar long? kind regards, Helen

Hello Ladies My husband has just has an interview to work at Dukan English school - I have tried searching for this topic on here but with no luck - please could anyone give any advice/opinion with regard to experiences of this school? Or infact living in the Qatar petroleum Dukan complex? I am a nurse and would like to search for work - looks like all major hospitals are in Doha - would I be able to commute via bus? Google maps is giving a time of anywhere between 1-2 hours! Or would I need to brave the roads and drive? Any advice very much appreciated - thankyouuuu!! kind regards, Helen

Thanks nicedaynat. I have had interest from both AD and Dubai hospitals so we could potentially end up in either locations! Our main concern is how to estimate what sort of salary my husband might earn if hired locally - do you know any teachers who could advise? Maybe I should get my hubby to ask on a teaching forum!! Thank you again for taking the time to reply - much appreciated! Once we are in the UAE where is the best place to look for jobs? Do people use recruitment agencies or certain websites? :-)

Hello! We are considering a move to the UAE via my job. My husband is a secondary school teacher (design technology/graphics) and we have read that he will likely receive a reduced salary should he be hired locally, to that he otherwise would obtain from the UK? This being the case, can anyone provide any insight into what kind of salary a locally hired teacher might expect? I am assuming locally hired teachers are also likely not to receive school places for their children that are sometimes offerred to those recruited from the UK? Any advice re teaching job prospects/experience would be massively appreciated! Thank you very much :-)

Thank you both, I really appreciate your honesty - there are so many potholes you don't see when you are not familiar with a place! Should he find a suitable job (likely not at the Newton school!!) then I will contact the hosptials prior to us going. I received a nurse manager job offer from a hospital in Abu Dhabi a while back but due to house renovation issues couldn't accept it - we heard that my husband would likely receive a much reduced salary as a teacher once out there (so seems like whoever it hired locally gets the naff deal)? Is there a governing/regulatory body who oversee school results in Quatar (like ofstead in the UK)? So you can look up individual school performance rates? Lastly, do you know anyone who has worked on any oil company sites/sent their children there? There is one an hour outside of Doha advertising - bit of a remote location and also getting some very mixed information on forum sites (this is why I decided to post here, where I knew I would get some honest and sensible feedback)! Thank you again ladies, Helen

Hi there whereintheworld! Thank you so much for your reply, I am guessing you are a teacher yourself? Would it be possible to give an estimate of a reasonable salary for a teacher? I read 16,000/mth QR is an average general salary? Obviously it depends on level of seniority/position? Do you know approximately what percentage of children are of expat origin in Newton? I read some alarming post that commented on the poor level of English within the school! I have good career prospects as an ICU nurse and wonder if we could earn enough to send our girls to school elsewhere! How much would a family of 4 require per month to live comfortably in Qatar? (sorry for all the questions)!! Thank you so very much, Helen :-)

Hello all - apologies if this subject has been discussed several times before but I am a little confused? My husband has an interview for a teaching job within Newton school (unsure which one as yet - they don't specify, but he is a secondary school teacher)! I have read so many mixed reviews about this school - quite alot from approx 5 years ago though. We have 2 children (one primary age, one secondary age) and I would greatly appreciate any honest opinion from anyone who is a teacher or has children at the Newton schools. I understand a new site (?D ring) is opening/established? Thankyou for your time, Helen

Thankyou so much Busybee2 & Happy new year! One more question - do you know if we move out with my contract what type of visa would we likely have? Would my husband be able to seek work - I am wondering if it would then be his employer who sponsors him seperately? The area sounds great - good to know you are happy there :)

Thankyou both so much for taking time to reply, much appreciated and very useful. It sounds as though maybe this package could work? So if I calculate 2000/month for utilities and 10000/month for school fees approximately for negotiation? The rent should be paid for by the hospital (it is the Mafraq hospital: http://www.mafraqhospital.ae/ ) to be moving into a newbuild sit in 2014 I believe: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VnWG9kANyzw I understand that this is out in the suburbs ?45mins form the centre. Is this a nice area? I have read it has alot of young families and schools? with regard to the 'housing charge' is that like council tax? Is it payable in Abu Dhabi aswel as Dubai? I have no problem with Abu Dhabi being more conservative, my husband spent much of his childhood in Kuwait and would love to return to the middle east as an adult - he is a design technology teacher (secondary school) - we are hopeful his work prospects may be reasonable? ..thankyou again so much ..have just seen my spelling mistakes! I blame it on the night shifts!! :)
