Hi ladies I've been following this thread and doing some research as I've also been looking for a biological or holistic dentist in Dubai. I've finally come across this doctor based on Al Wasl Road who is a biological dentist: http://drmanafagha.com/holistic-and-bio-dentistry/ I've booked a consultation on Sat and would be happy to share my experiences if that helps.

Hi ladies Thanks for the input. The main reason for looking for a job here is that the rest of the family is all out here. Also, she finishes her training in October 2015 so she will have missed the entry for FS1/FS2 by then (they said it was August only). She can do the PLAB and apply for a junior house doctor position (to avoid the need for FS1/FS2) but my sis is worried she would need to take a year out to study for it in order to sit and pass it? Has anyone been able to do both PLAB parts in less time or while working?

Hi ladies I wanted to say a big thank you for your input and advice, it's been a very trying time. The reality is I have spoken to her and have confirmed that I will not be banning her or reporting her for the illegal work. I only found out about the latter because she ended up doing some work for a friend of a friend and it came to light by chance. Anyway - she did a great job and was a great nanny for the seven months she was with us. I believe she made a mistake and she feels bad about it, but she would still like to go home and see her family bc of the issue with her daughter. I have agreed to let her go, but I have retained her last salary's pay cheque to contribute towards the 5K that remained of the cost of her visa which will help towards the cost of her flight home and the new nanny's visa. I am just disappointed at how it has turned out bc to be honest I don't even have it in my heart to do this, but I've had my arm twisted as we can't really afford to waive the financial implications of her decision completely. Nevertheless, thank you for the input ladies, and I hope next time will be better! The only downside for me is this: I treated her as family, we paid well and we gave extras, plus presents for birthdays, Xmas, Easter, etc. I always let her go home even if there was stuff still to do when I came home from work bc I got that she had already put in a full day's work and had to travel to get home. I feel very naive now but more disappointed than anything bc I want to treat people well but feel v used and that makes me unsure of how to handle the situation next time. Do you recommend a change of approach?

Thanks for the advice ladies, I was able to make some calls and have confirmed that she did do some work on the side for extra cash - this is despite the fact I am paying her 3K a month and I could have increased her pay if she was willing to work longer hours. The long and short is I confronted her and it transpires that she wanted to go to the Philippines to deal with her family emergency (which I am doubting now) and return to find part time work in Dubai whilst on her husband's visa instead. This is completely different to the fact she told me she was going home permanently bc of the issue with her daughter. I asked her what was going on and why she hadn't spoken to me about it. She said she is very happy with us BUT she does not like the commute from Satwa to Mirdif every day. So it looks like she's milked personal circumstances to try and get out of a visa and a contract at our expense in order to find more convenient work. I'm so disappointed in her. My daughter is so attached to her and I am so shocked as she's always done a great job for us and I used to joke with her about how she was my guardian angel - I feel beyond naive now. We treated her like family and we have always lived in Mirdif, so nothing's changed. Plus I always make sure she can leave as soon as I get home from work. If I ask her to babysit (once every couple of weeks until 11pm), I pay for her taxi and give her the next day off. This has been such a slap in the face but at the same time my daughter is besotted with her and I know she's done such a great job the rest of the time. But after what she's done, she's not really left me with any options given that she's broken the law? PS: I have managed to get her passport of her, so I've just got to decide what to do next now…. edited by HMKing on 29/04/2014

Hi ladies - I'm in a right pickle and really need some help. Long story short, about three weeks ago my maid told me she wants to go back to the Philippines as she's having some family problems to do with her teenage daughter rebelling. She told me she wants to leave in June - only seven months into her contract. I told her we understood but I need her to let me find a replacement. I've been searching high + low, still not found the right person AND this morning she told me she now wants to travel before 25 May bc of her daughter's bday. I explained the need for me to find a replacement and told her will do my best. I was annoyed because have just been told by hubby's HR department that we will not get the six months of her visa refunded even though we paid for her to get a maid's visa when she was on a visit visa. She hasn't raised the issue of covering this cost herself or contributing to it and now she's drawing her leaving date forward. Add to this that I've just found out she may be doing cleaning jobs on the side (without our knowledge or permission!!!) on her day off as she's live out and I specifically warned her against this when she first took the job with us. So…. I'm now really stuck. The passport is in her possession and so I haven't confronted her about what I know. I'm also now doubting her story as I've seen her taking numbers from people downstairs and I wonder why she would need them if she's really leaving. What should I do? Both about the visa money we sunk (11K Dhs including a flight to Oman) and the fact that if I cancel her visa, I need to pay for her to leave the country? Does anyone have any advice on this and what the position is if they breach their contract?? PS: I work full time and my 2 year old is in her full time care edited by HMKing on 28/04/2014

Hi there - did you decide to go from treatment with Dr Parviz in the end? Currently considering it but looking to hear from others who have had experiences with him before I commit to anything. Any info at all is appreciated :) And thank you in advance!

Sorry, totally jumping on the bandwagon but wondering if the below recommedations still stand as I need a logo for a personal project - nothing too expensive - but I want it to be professional so don't want to just throw something together myself! Hilsbils: is your friend still available?

Hi ladies, I'm in the midst of the most infuriating bureaucracy I've ever experienced and would love some tips / advice / pointers! Long story short we moved here 5 months ago bc my husband got a job here. I'm now looking to go back to work and have secured a position *BUT* said position won't let me be sponsored on my husband's visa, they said the DIFC requires I have my own visa. In order for me to get my own visa they want various docs attested by the UAE Embassy in London - and apparently it cannot be done in the UAE even though I have the docs (unattested) with me and have no plans to return to the UK at present. Is this true? That there is no procedure that can be undertaken from here? Also, I've heard that I can hire an agent here who will do the whole process back in the UK. Has anyone used an agent, or know of one that is good to use? I'm in deep dodo as I can't start work until this has all be done, and I have just found out the docs need to go to the FCO first... so who knows how long this is all going to take! Thanks LOTS and LOTS in advance!!

Hi there I am so sorry to hear about this :( it's really tough going and I just wanted to say to you both that it will get better - sadly I don't know of anywhere but I have worked with children who have suffered in a similar way on a pro bono basis as a voluntary coach and mentor. If you get stuck and cannot find anyone else that is able to help them do let me know as I might be able to help you in some ways.

Thanks for chipping in - bizarrely that makes four classes a month more expensive than a membership with them in the first place?! Go figure - clearly not doing it for our benefit! Does anyone else have any recommendations? I just figure that local means there is more chance I can go regularly. x
