Thank you horizon mum! your post has truly put my mind at ease! I will keep your email in handy for further info! is n your youngest going into.fs1? my son will be starting in fs1 my daughter in grade 1 so I'm a bit excited also one last ? I heard that school will start at 7 due to the construction of the canal? thanks again for taking the time to reply to me so helpful! My youngest (daughter) will be starting into fs1... so yes... we might just end up being in the same class! :-) the school currently has a 7:20am bell for a 7:30am start... it will probably stay this way... the fs1 and fs2 children are allowed to enter all the way till 8:00am I think (though I'm not sure as I don't currently have any children in that bracket)... which works quite well as it helps to avoid the congested roads such as al wasl which tend to get clogged around 20 minutes after the current school start time... I don't think they will start at 7 though... that would just be wayy too early...

hi... (1) yes, the academics have improved greatly over the past couple of years... it is much more structured etc. and the school has received an outstanding ranking consecutively now for two years... they have a 'no homework' policy and hence a lot more laid back than other British curriculum schools... just a different approach to learning and education... if you are looking for a highly academic school with daily evidence of classroom work and set homework and assignments then this is definitely not the school for you (2) sorry not sure of the sibling discount as my youngest is just starting there next academic year so at present i don't know if they offer it or not... maybe one of the other mums on here will be able to better advise on that (3) this is the first proper school we have been at... my eldest transitioned here from nursery and we have been nothing but happy here... she has progressed very well, come out of her shy shell, is an active sports enthusiast and has developed a wonderful passion for reading and literacy... we love the school for its ethos, its sense of inclusion, its wonderful children, teaching support and general international feel... their only drawback is that they are not up to the mark on communication with parents and unless you're regularly volunteering at school as a parent helper you don't really get to know much about the daily classroom activities... happy to answer anymore questions you have... feel free to mail me on horizonmum2 at gmail dot com

i found the apartments in motorcity... especially the terraced ones to be HUGE... and more value for money than what u'd pay for staying closer to the city... only disadvantage is that there is no metro there

i think the apartments in Green Lakes are fairly spacious... the 2bedrooms are around 2176sqft... but unfortunately the kitchens are open kitchen style (unless you find one that the landlord has modified into a closed kitchen)

easiest thing to do is head straight to the main fruit/veg market in deira (or ras al khor) depending on which one is closer to you and ask the stall sellers for their spare crates... i am an event planner and have done quite a few rustic themed weddings/baby showers etc and have used these crates from the market... some of them are in fairly good condition but they are a pale shade of brown... if you want a darker version just get some wood stain from Ace and paint away at them... they do look quite gorgeousss when done right... all the best... wish i could offer to rent them to you but i normally dispose of them post event as they take up a lot of storage space... also worth getting in touch with Joelle from My Lovely Wedding... she may have stock of a few pieces from her events...

ladies... any suggestions of a nice private venue (or private terraced area) to host a milestone birthday... expecting around 30-40 guests and would be looking for food, drinks and music... maybe a private area in a bar or restaurant? it's quite a small number so not sure whether function areas at hotels would be an option... don't wanna spend a ridiculous amount of money just on venue hire... unfortunately doing it at home is not an option...

they used to meet at 12pm on Friday in Crown Plaza Shiehk Zayed road for 90 minutes and on Monday night at 8.30pm Crown Plaza found the above answer on an online forum and it was posted quite some time ago... else ur best bet is to ask the Chaplain at Trinity Church (Oud Metha) where they have over 60 different christian religious groups hiring out their halls/church for various communal gatherings

it's actually both... it's FREE to enter with parking underground... and you can troll along the mall (themed like an old arabian souq/marketplace) for free... but if you decide to shop or eat at any one of their numerous restaurants you would need to pay... they also have a lovely little abra ride inside that you can take (again a paid activity) not sure if their christmas village is up yet but if it is - it's a lovely place to visit!

for Flowers in the SAFA area I would recommend going to the store that is inside the union coop across Safa Park... they are called Rowdat Al Zuhoor (04-3947927)... I've seen some gorgeous arrangements on display there

hi... yes i do! :) only challenge with them is that the majority of them speak very little english although they seem to understand english quite well... ours is EXCELLENT and she even folds the toilet paper into lil triangles (like in the hotels!!) ... she's been with us for four years and is completely trustworthy, hardworking and generally a nice person... her only vice is her addiction to her damn mobile phone!! i think now they have some restrictions from exiting nepal so it's best to do it through an agent... one agent here that offers this is Subash 0551674572... i think he charges around 3-5K (depending on the going rate for bribes at the nepal airport!) ... a friend of ours used him to bring our maid's neighbour to work for them and it's worked out perfectly fine (this was in July this year).

the cheapest venue in Dubai is India Club - but even they have a space limitation (unless you're ok with doing in on their court side - which is open air)... their buffet charges start at 50dhs per head for a proper indian or chinese menu and they also have the cheapest alcohol in town... unfortunately their largest ballroom has a max capacity of 150 guests so your only option for 300 guests would be their outdoor area... check with them... but note only a member can book the venue for you so hurry up and start calling your friends and someone should be able to find you a member there! :)

if you're looking for very cheap and friendly (almost disposable) have a look at Day to Day Centre (a discount store with branches in deira, karama, bur dubai, etc.) they sell the more popular board games at 1/10th the price... limited selection though but they always have Monopoly, Ludo, Scrabble, Snakes & Ladders, Chess and UNO <em>edited by HorizonMum2 on 20/11/2014</em>

Around four years ago when I was school hunting for DD1, and had approached a prominent GEMS primary school I was told that if I didn't have a corporate debenture I could apply under a personal debenture... this personal debenture would be a non-refundable amount of AED 120,000/-... i have this in writing (email) from the registrar of that school... of course i refused to pay that kind of money just to get 'into' the school... So I'm not surprised at all that this debenture value is now around 150K mark (4 year inflation and all)... OP - your company probably took out a personal debenture as corporate debentures are purchased in chunks of four or five I was told! <em>edited by HorizonMum2 on 20/11/2014</em>

a typical nutribullet smoothie for me includes the following: - one handful (or two) of spinach - 1/2 stick of celery - one apple - one pear - one banana - two figs - two teaspoons of flax seeds - two strawberries i fill the cup to the brim and drink it a bit at a time at my desk... definitely helps keep me full although it's not very pleasant on the eye (coz it's all green!!)

sorry can't help much with the FASTING/DIET bit but I recently bought the NutriBullet and have been having smoothies every morning... its usually a mix of fruit/veg and some nuts and usually i'm perfectly full till lunchtime... i've noticed a lighter feeling in general but i don't think the weight loss will happen till i club this with exercise

According to my experience Chuck E Cheese is the best place in UAE for Kids and their parents. I still remember last year when we went to Chuck E Cheese for my friends daughter's birthday everyone had great fun. There are so many things for kids to have fun such as a sit down pizza restaurant, complemented by arcade games and other diversions with over 200 games and rides for kids and adults, which include driving games and rides, huge sky tube, toddler zone and Studio ‘C’ which have a lot of indoor arcade attractions aimed towards bringing people of all ages together.. the tables and chairs can also be hired from ACE (not sure if they have the round ones though) alternatively, ask your caterer for the event... they would usually be able to supply this if they do outdoor catering... or there is this shop in Dragonmart called Dingli Trading Co., Ltd (FBJ01-02) perhaps worth checking with them if they offer rentals... you can purchase items from there but not sure if they do rentals...

try calling this agent called Subash 0551674572... some friends of mine have used him to bring nepalese maids into dubai (in spite of the difficulties with exiting the Kathmandu airport)... i think he charges around 3000dhs if the maid has UAE experience and 5000dhs if she's fresh from nepal...

this one's super quick as compared to my regular blender especially for the tougher to grind stuff... plus it makes everything like super smooth consistency unlike my regular blender that still has some lumpy pieces in it... my super drink this morning was kale, celery, pear, apple, flax seeds, and strawberries... yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm i hope i dont get thumbed down for naming the place i picked it up from... i got mine from HomesRUs in Mazaya Centre...
