hmmm not sure how the European sizes compare to the UK sizes but I usually buy my PLUS size clothing from a couple of specific stores here or then online... for swimwear specifically I find DEBENHAMS, MATALAN, TKD LINGERIE and MANGO's VIOLETA range, NAMSHI for the best selection... can you let me know what size you are in UK then I'll be able to send you more specific links

have you looked at Hard Rock Café at Festival City... they have a private dining area upstairs that would be perfect for your number of guests and gives you the privacy yet you can still have all the ambient music/environment of the place... unfortunately they are a licensed facility but you can always speak to the management to ensure that drinks aren't served to anyone on the upstairs deck area

shucks what a disaster... but being a wedding planner myself and having had to clean up the mess after a couple of similar planners, I can totally relate to how many 'unprofessional planners' there are around town. thankfully the wedding is behind you and now try and focus on the positives and better still focus your energy on planning a destination wedding anniversary for you and your closest friends ensuring that this time it's you calling all the shots!

Hi there Fleuritta I'm a wedding planner so can speak from experience about this. You don't need to have a wedding certificate (attested or not) to host your wedding reception at a hotel or any private venue here. If you wanted to have a religious ceremony then yes they would need to see a copy of the same. However, if I understood your message right, you're basically look to just host the reception party/dinner and for this the hotel will not require to see any details from you and all bookings etc can be made using your parents passport details (the hotels only need the details of the person booking/paying for the function and suppliers and not the bride/groom). Hope that helps!

Try to check Flower by Contempo, they're an event company with a very large staff. they are on the higher end of the spectrum though and definitely not someone you would want to consider for a 'budget wedding'... I've worked with them before so just giving the original poster a heads up

Hi there... I'm a wedding planner so happy to help with some advice... the cheaper venues in Dubai are mostly within 3 and 4 star hotels and, depending on the time of your wedding, can be either indoor or outdoor. My suggestions would be as follows: - try and have your wedding indoors (usually has a lower minimum spend than outdoor options) - try and have it on a weekday evening as opposed to weekend (if possible) - opt for off peak times of the year (most hotels even the 5 star ones would give you much more competitive rates in the summer) - opt for a buffet dinner as opposed to plated dinner - opt for the complimentary wedding cake from the hotel unless of course the cake is the highlight of the wedding! some of the more cost effective hotels are in Barsha, Deira, Bur Dubai and would start from AED 75/- per head for a buffet dinner... but feel free to get in touch if you need more info... you can reach me on my username at gmail dot com... of course all other costs would be additional such as décor, flowers, entertainment, alcohol, etc.

Ladies you're welcome to correct me if I'm wrong... But i'm of the understanding some hotels in RAK still serve alcohol during Ramadan? That might make nice romantic getaway for you if so The Rixos in RAK most definitely has food and alcohol served throughout the resort (not hidden at all) during Ramadan... they had loud music and food/drinks served by the pool, kids club, beach and even their night club was open during Ramadan and it was absolutely rocking! We go every year as they do a 50% off during Ramadan and it sure doesn't feel like it's Ramadan there! Not sure how they get away with that though... not sure about what it's like for other resorts in RAK

I've been pumping for a year now too and did the same with my earlier child as well... working full time the most effective one I've used is the Medela Double Electric Pump in Style...

I've had it done at Hair Highness Salon in Jumeirah... the treatment itself was good and if I remember correctly I paid around 900 for it (I have just below shoulder length hair)... I felt my hair was back to its wavy frizzy state around 4 months after treatment in spite of only using the shampoo and conditioner recommended by them... I guess it's subject to how often you wash ur hair (I was mine daily) and also if u swim etc as the applied solution just washes off your hair over time...

I would wait for another couple of years before deciding to change jobs... you see for the first couple of years in school the children finish wayyyy earlier than rest of school so even if you do end up working in the school your timings will be substantially different to hers at least until she enters Grade 1. Make a list of what food she normally eats and send in only that... my eldest survived a whole year of school only eating jam sandwiches... and my middle one is currently on an 'idli' craving and only wants that for brekkie and lunch... so don't stress too much and just go with the flow... at this age it really is more important that they just eat something... you can always ensure that the dinner meal (where you are present) is more nutritious etc.

presuming she's going to be around 3.5yrs old when she starts school and normally schools in Dubai have one or two snack breaks during the school day... ideally you should just send in food that she likes and that is heavy enough to sustain her till she reaches either the nanny's home or the babysitter's home... children also love snacks so maybe pack smaller snacks and a variety so that she can pick and choose (and perhaps even nibble some on the way on the bus) snacks that work well in our household include the following: - fruit cut up in different shapes (cookie cutters are great for this) - cheese sticks - pretzels - crackers - hard cheese (like cheddar cubes) - yoghurt pods - beef jerkey - dried fruit - mini sandwich rolls - raisins - oat bars the above items are super easy (as they're all readily available to buy and is great for working parents with minimal time to cook)... you could always send in a hot lunch too which your child could have during the longer break at school... something like fried rice or pasta or pie or curry... we send food in these tiny thermos jars called Funtainers which keep the food nice and warm in time for lunch and we rarely get any food back home do things to make your life easier and the transition to school easy... plan meals with your child... let them decide what they'd like as a special treat on each day... let them help you pack their lunch boxes (teaches them independence too!)

in Oud Metha, you could go to OASHA SALON... on 8th Street (opp Fish Hut restaurant)... in Karama, you could go to MIRA BEAUTY SALON... same street as Yoko Sizzlers (opposite BurJuman)... plenty of street parking available at both locations... it is preferable to go in the mornings and afternoons as parking is more readily available at those times... keep in mind though that these are small, not-so-fancy salons... however a wash and blow dry is only AED 60

hi there... i'm a wedding planner and happy to offer you some free advice... can u please be a bit more specific on what items you are looking for as you may be able to shop for some of the items at more competitive prices if you don't go to a single shop sort of store... confetti, for example, can be bought in bulk in places like Dragonmart and then put into your wedding theme coloured packaging or sleeves (again from a different store) and would then be a bit more customized for your particular event... however, if you prefer ease of purchase then you could visit a store like MyPartyCentre in Garhoud that has pre-packed mini confetti bags... these are slightly more pricier though

most of the Western magicians such as Manda's Magic would charge around 1000-1200 dhs for a 45minute-1hr show... but if you're looking for cheaper options try the following: - Kiducation charges AED 700 for 30 minutes show - Shamim charges AED 500 for 30 minutes show

Hi Instead of putting your child in an Indian school I would recommend choosing a budget British curriculum school where the teachers are not native English speakers... schools that fall into this category would include: - Al Diyafah High School (Ghusais) - Dubai Gem School (Oud Metha) - St. Mary's Catholic High School (Oud Metha) - Cambridge International School (Garhoud) - GEMS Founders School - Al Salam Private School - Winchester School - Westminister School At least that way they would be learning a more international syllabus... and all these schools the fees is between 9K-15K a year...

There are several ways in which you can register a complaint at DED and these include telephone, fax, email, website or a personal visit to DED Consumer Protection division.   In all instances you will be expected to provide your name and contact details, full details of the retailer/service provider and a description of the case to be lodged. You should ensure that all supporting documents related to the case are with you at the time of lodging your complaint.   The Consumer Protection division will provide you with a unique case number which should be quoted when enquiring about the progress of your case which we will seek to resolve within two working days.

DESS hands down! There is a good mix of nationalities so whomever told you its more Western obviously havent been to the school in ages or perhaps didnt get into the school! In my son's class alone there are only 3 British kids and the rest are from countries all over the world so there you have it. Your source is quite wrong. DESS has great learning support teachers (mine get help with reading) and the teachers are all warm and kind as well. The parents are super nice too....Yes, I am a DESS parent and proud of it! :) Possibly better mix of nationalities now but I know of one specific Asian family that moved from our school to DESS in FS2 level and they felt that their class was much more Western majority... the few children in the class who were Asian by ethnicity still had Western nationalities/passports... anyway just feedback... I'm sure you could specifically ask the school to advise you on the exact break up of the class that you child would be going into... all the best with your choice... I'm sure you will make the right one for your child...

we've been at Horizon for a long time (in our 7th year now) and absolutely love it... I think you really need to see if it's a good fit for your child or not... what works for one family may not necessarily work for the other... if the Learning Support function is important to you why don't you go into see the LE department at DESS and discuss your particular situation with them before making your choice... DESS is today definitely more international than it used to be say five years ago... but the majority will still be skewed to British nationals (as it is still is a non-profit British curriculum school supported by a Board of Trustees)... I presume you've already been on a school tour... this would give you a real feel for the place... both DESS and Horizon are great schools and i'm sure you'll find supporters of both on this forum... but in the end you really do need to decide which is the best fit for your child... it's early days yet... so you could also join DESS and then see how your child gets on and if your child is not happy then you can always come back... today, thanks to the vast number of schools open, places will always be available... getting an FS place in DESS or Horizon used to be unheard of a few years ago but today with so much more competition in the primary school market spaces are popping up left right and centre... so don't stress too much...

Hi all, my friend has had acceptance for her daughter in FS2 for Horizon English School ( near Safa Park). She has also been accepted into Gems Wellington international school, SZR and into Raffles Academy. Can you please advise which one is better? Her daughter is a shy child...her main concern is that the teaching staff should be nice and make her child feel comfortable. Thanks My colleagues Son goes to Horizon and he is very happy there. His Mum is a TA at another school so was very picky about where her Son would go all my children go to Horizon and we've been with the school since it was a small school to the more medium sized school it is now... it think it's an ideal school for shy children as my eldest was that way when she started and today has developed into a wonderfully motivated and positive child singing in school plays, being on all the school sport teams, etc. since it's a smaller school (compared to some of the larger counterparts) the children have more chance at being involved in various activities... so even though my child may not be the absolute best in swimming (for example) she still gets to be on the school swim squad since there is lesser number of children compared to a larger school with many many more children to compete for a spot on the squad... hope i'm making sense here... being part of team activities has REALLY helped my eldest come out of her shell and hence I'm very happy with my choice of school... happy to answer any more questions you have on the school

hello I am desperate!!! so I spoke to a tailor in satwa and he said he can make me the simple flowing dress for 700AED!!!! why!!! ok so now i'm confused... not sure if you're after a dress or a fabric backdrop... if its a dress for maternity shoot why not consider the versatile outfit called THE DRESS from Dee's Boutique (online) and it can be worn many different ways... or if it's the fabric backdrop you're after you don't even need to get a tailor if you don't want the ends hemmed... just buy straight off the fabric reel... and pay per yard of fabric... here are some examples... purchasing online from China is always a tricky game! more often than not I prefer to use that only as my last resort! for larger weddings we actually just go to China and source directly from there... but in your case that would not be feasible... my suggestion would be this... go to the Deira textile souq (old Naif bazaar) and buy the fabric you like in bulk... whether satin / lycra / silk / linen and then take it to a tailor in burdubai or satwa and get the fabric hemmed or tailored to your requirement... that way you are in complete control of fabric/quantity/quality/price for other elements such as charger plates/etc depending on the quantity you are looking for you can purchase also from Deira or then directly from home stores (you would need to talk to somebody in their headoffice to order the specific quantity for you)... for example when I needed these vintage looking photoframes and candlebra from HomeCentre I just got in touch with their Branch Head who then connected me to their Purchasing and they block ordered the items for their next shipment and sold it to me at their retail price (which was way cheaper than anything I found in Dragonmart)... this did take time though coz their shipments only come in every three weeks or so... if you have enough time do a test order for something that is not very important from Alibaba... I once ordered tulle table skirting and was quite happy with what was delivered... so it's probably worth a shot for a not so high price ticket item. all the best... and feel free to ping back if you need any more advice

hi... congratulations on ur BIG day! i'm a planner and while I can't comment on what the rates are of other planners here I can definitely share my own charges with you. My charges are very straightforward - 15% of the spend booked through me. So, for example, if you book the photographer through me and his/her charges were 10K, then you would be paying me 15% of that as the booking and coordination charges. While this might seem unreasonable at first thought bear in mind a few key elements: - the rates of services booked through me are more often than not better rates (at least 20% lesser) than rates booked directly with the supplier - if you are booking 10 different suppliers from hair to venue to photographer to florist to linens to cars you still only have to deal with one point of contact - me! - I would also help you shortlist photographers without you having to call and research on those available in the market some planners are already tied up with specific venues/suppliers/artists and would insist you pick from those... I prefer to be more flexible in that approach as in my nine years of experience in the field I've realized that some couples prefer spending more on décor while others would prefer spending more on the venue and yet others who are on a tight budget for the whole event. Hence I have a range of suppliers that I work with (and can even work with your own contacts as well) to fit the couple's individual budgets. and if you're a bride like I was and want to be in control of everything then I even offer on the day wedding coordination and charge roughly 500dhs an hour for the same... anyway let me know if you need help with more info... I'm happy to advise further... not going to leave a link or anything on here unless asked lest I be kicked off the forum for advertising (sorry mods)...

hi Dashenka... i'm a planner and normally source a lot of DIY items from little shops across Dubai... Dragonmart 1 would have the item you're looking for (as in the plain glass ones and not the fully decorated ones as in your image link)... alternatively if you're only looking to buy a single one then you should also look at stores like Daiso, DaytoDay and GiftVillage in Dubai... they would have cheaper alternatives of the same... most homestores now stock these jars with straws but some places only offer the printed variety and not the clear glass ones... checkout HomeCentre, HomesRUs, MatalanHome, etc. and if you're looking for something more high end then Pottery Barn, Crate & Barrel also carry these...

For tailors I would recommend the following: - Buttons & Bows - Susanna & Sophie Design Studio Both these are based in the JLT area and have really good tailors/seamstresses to replicate any design or work on a totally new design If you're looking for something readymade then I would head straight to Debenhams... they have many formal dresses/gowns that can be used for bridesmaids... but be warned that they are quite pricey... all in the 800plus mark (unless on sale).

the cheapest 'indoor' hotel venue to have your wedding reception would be around the rate of AED 100 per head (for buffet... alcohol would be extra)... but these are usually 3 star city hotels... if you're looking for something more fancy the average 5 star city hotel charges in the range of AED 180 to AED 240 (again for buffet... alcohol would be extra)... while the more fancy beach and resort hotels would charge from AED 260 to AED 400 per head... if you require alcohol at your wedding reception you would need to have it at a hotel or polo/golf club or then on a licensed boat... most people prefer the polo/golf club option as at these the alcohol can also be purchased from other emirates and not necessarily through the authorised (read more expensive) options such as MMI and A&E if you're ok with your guests travelling a bit then look at Sharjah and Ajman for hotel options... much better in price and value... but of course there is the drive to consider! Some of your guests may choose to make a staycation of that weekend... keep in mind weekday rates are cheaper than weekend rates... city hotels are cheaper than resorts... if you have a smaller number of guests (under 50) you may even be able to just hire your favourite restaurant out exclusively instead of going in for a ballroom! happy to offer more free advice... just get in touch on my username at gmail dot com

Hi... we live in a lovely compound called the TERRACES in Jumeirah 2. It is managed and run by Deira Tower Real Estate. Their office is in City Tower 2 on Sh Zayed Road. The villa compound is made up of 100 identical three bedroom villas. We have round the clock maintenance and security but no other facilities such as gym/pool/etc. I do know that they operate a waiting list system for the rentals so best to get in touch with them to check for availability... we pay AED 170K for our three bedroom but I guess new tenants would pay slightly more so it might fit within your budget...
