we have a 2bedroom in Green Lakes S3 that is currently on lease... we are currently getting a rental income of AED 140K on that... our current tenant's contract ends in September this year but we will not be increasing as it still falls under the RERA bracket of AED 120-150K

Motor City or Dubai Silicon Oasis would probably be good areas for you to live (considering your budget, etc.)... the rents are bearable there plus most of the newer schools are based in and around that area

IKEA does bunk beds... as do Home Centre, Pan Emirates, HomesRUS, United Furniture, etc... worth having a look at all these... all these stores offer competitively priced furniture and some of them are even on sale at the moment...

I am looking for a company who can make a garage shade for me to go over the concrete slats above my garage. Does anyone have a company they could recommend? And an approximate cost for a standard two-car garage? Thank you! we recently purchased some clear tarp (looks like an acrylic ribbed sheet) and put this over our wooden slats above our garage... cost us only around 500dhs...

not sure how close your office is to the school... but one other option would be to use your lunch hour to pick up your child and drop them off back home... that's what I used to do with my eldest when she was in Early Years

Usually the agencies are not willing to transfer the visa. They would rather cancel the visa and place a ban on the maid than transfer her to the other sponsor. This is what i experienced.....maybe someone can tell you a positive story. I think the best bet would be for the maid to tell the agency that she does not wish to renew her contract with them... and give them some strong reason (like she's going back home to get married, or has some family/self medical issue, etc... and hopefully they will cancel her visa without placing a ban on her... they usually only put a ban if the person appears to be trying to get a better job with a competitor/client or if the employee has been caught doing something wrong (stealing, etc.) once she is out of the country (and provided they didn't put a ban on her) you can then sponsor her on your own maid visa

These blondies sound heavenly! Would love to try but raspberries are so expensive here at 22-26 dhs for a tiny pack. Any idea if they can be bought at a cheaper price ? A family member is allergic to strawberries so that won't work. head straight to the main fruit & veggie market (Ras Al Khor or Deira) whichever is closer to you... and buy from... cheaper and fresher!!

I may have watched toooooo many Hollywood movies but IMHO, if two humans were locked up in a room with no way to get out to get food, and one of them died, the other would eventually do exactly what Cushion claims the dog would do... eat to survive... that's a no brainer... you would be AMAZED at what even humans can be pushed into doing when faced with desperate situations

Visit www.uae4kidz.biz for all your party needs. :) :) sorry I beg to differ... the supplies on that site are definitely NOT cheap even if you take into account the SALIK you might be paying to drive to the Union Coop, Daiso or the Party Centre in Garhoud or Media City... simple price comparisons: paper plates solid colour in partysouq (AED 30), in party centre (AED 24) and in union coop (AED 12) paper lanterns solid colour in partysouq (AED 50), in party centre (AED 32), and in dragonmart (AED 10) so, especially, if you're buying more than 1 or 2 items... it makes more sense to shop around... IMHO :)

why not go away to one of the hotels outta town? like perhaps Fujairah?? we did a fabbbb weekend getaway to the Fujairah Rotana last Ramadan (all hotels operate at 50% discount rates during that season)... but they still serve food and alcohol during the day (even by the poolside) but the only thing is that it will be in a discreet/covered area... plus the beauty of Fujairah was that is was around 6 degrees cooler than Dubai! :)

we have a Nepalese maid but when we first bought her to Dubai we bought her on a maid visa (but at that stage the document is called an entry permit)... we basically had the next 30 days to decide whether she was a good fit for the family before actually processing her visa (the stage that costs the 5000/-)... thankfully for us she was (is) amazing and we processed her visa but had we decided otherwise then she could have easily just been sent back at the end of the 30days and all it would have cost us was for the typing of the entry permit and the flight tickets.

the AC is possibly a contributing factor... reason being that the air you breath is being circulated around the house (and at the same time the germs are also being spread centrally) I remember all the kids on our apartment floor catching chicken pox from my DD just through the AC ducts... she was never in contact with any of them from one week before she was detected up until three weeks after detection so it must have spread that way! getting your AC professionally cleaned will help but more to ensure that the environment is dust free... but if any of you catches a fresh inhalant virus chances are that it will spread again... best is to strengthen your body with natural supplements... lots of vitamin C, etc. and also to practice better hygiene at home... make sure everyone washes hands regularly, especially after any contact with nose/mouth/sneeze... also what I've found works well in our house is if the infected person walks around wearing a mask...

Its difficult to get Internship here if you are trying independently. Its better to ask the college / school for some directions or if they have some arrangements with some companies. My uni arranged it for us, and we had to pay them for it. Also it helps if you know someone in HR or try for internship where the parents/relatives work, in case they need an extra hand. We students alternatively tried emailing the HR execs of various companies (of interest) requesting them for internship. If you are lucky you will get a response. thanks for the advice ajfa... unfortunately only the elder one is in a uni and their only advice was to register their interest for a paid internship online and they would notify them once something comes up... no guarantee though... the younger child has just finished school (and is 18) and not in a university yet so that option wont work for her... their mum is SAHM and Dad runs an online business from home so not much chance of them working with them... such a predicament... they're lovely hard working bright kids... just looking for something to do during the summer that will help to their learning...

The trouble I've always had is finding someone who wants to work in a dusty musty Sharjah industrial area and has own transport! they live on the dxb/shj border... in al nahda... so that sounds ideal... can you give me more details please! :)

BEST place for this is Union Coop!!! They sell them really cheap and they're in fun primary colours of red, yellow, green and blue... they also have matching bowls and cups! :) have fun at your party!! if you're looking for other rainbow colours like pinks, purples, oranges, etc then you can find these at Carrefour... or else if you're rather have a larger selection head straight to PARTY CENTRE in Garhoud or Media City ... they are the wholesale distributors for party supplies so they are priced better than the smaller boutique party stores

considering that you can't really throw them off midway it might be a longgggg and painful journey to say the least! are they at an age where they appreciate movies yet? the inflight entertainment is bound to keep them entertained for at least four of those hours... and then depending on the time of flight you choose they would probably sleep for another four to five hours (maybe not at a stretch)... I usually take along a bag for each of the kids... filled with cheap and cheerful toys from the discount stores... and just keep pulling one out every 30 minutes or so... and I even gift wrap them so that they spend a few minutes opening it up!

the Karama Centre Shopping Mall (not where the copy bags are... but close to the Dubai Municipality office) has many silver shops - I've been there to a shop called House of Silver... try that... if you're looking for silver shops in the old karama souq area (where the copy bags are)... then you can find one just next to the Karachi darbar restaurant on street 33b... sorry but I forgot the name...
