I've always loved seeing your posts and you will be greatly missed by many friends here in Dubai. However it is expat life and we must learn to say see you later and but not goodbye. Thankfully we have the internet to keep us in touch. I'll have to try and make it to a Friday before you go for a big big hug.

Our is I guess a funny case. So DH could get sleep as he was working I slept with DS in his room on the sofa bed. I actually found the sofa bed more comfortable in the end then DH and I's bed!! DS was first in his Bugaboo bassinet which I wanted him to get used to for when we travelled. When we came home from his "tour" to meet the relatives in the UK & Canada at about 13 weeks he was in the bassinet for a couple of nights and then in his cot. Just so it wasn't a sudden change. But he has always been in his own room. I was just me who moved out. DH used to start out the night with us then if he woke up would go to our room. On the weekends he would visit DS and I - LoL. So DS has always been in his own room. Just another way of doing it I guess. Make it easy for me just to move out.

My DS had a fungal infection and besides the cream the doctor prescribed the best thing was fresh air. I noticed when we had to go away it came back a bit and took longer to clear up when he didn't have his naked bum time. So now every morning before breakfast he has naked bum time for prevention. We also just use cotton balls and water to clean him unless he has done a #2. I hope it clears up soon for you!

My DS is 8 months and we still go :) There is a playmat so if your baby is sitting up they can join us on the mat with some toys.

We have the same problem with Air Canada - only 1 bag at 23kg :( It really sucks flying back on Air Canada with ony 23kg to then get on Emirates with a 30kg allowance. It means DH has to fly back underweight!!!! All that shopping that could be done. I think most of the US airlines and Air Canada have the 1 bag policy with 23 kg and BA has followed suit. Emirates might be more expensive but we like the higher baggage allowance.

Does he watch them already? None of mine have been even vaguely interested in the TV until at least 18 months and not really 'watching' anything until at least 2. If you already have a few DVD's, why not just take those and not spend the money on something he may not even pay any attention to? :) Otherwise, buy a few lovely music CD's and he may enjoy those more (Wiggles, Justine Clarke, nursery rhymes etc). Some of the Baby Einstein DVD's are good just for background sounds. When mine were a little older they loved the Baby MacDonald and baby Beethoven. Not really watching just for a few minutes then loses interest. It is more to stock up when we go to the UK for the next year or so, plane trips etc. Saves on shipping etc and we aren't sure when we might get visitors again to bring anything out. Often we can't seem to find things here. Also to stock up for Christmas presents etc. I'm attempting to plan in advance.

I found that the car seats at Good Baby across from Burjman were less than Just Kidding. Example - we got the Maxi Cosi Pearl at Good Baby for 1071 AED but at Just Kidding it was 1295 AED!!

You don't need the British Birth certficate to get the baby's British passport. The British Birth certificate is a "nice to have" and will certainly make life much easier down the road. Also if you move back to the UK at some point it will be more difficult to get as when the baby is born overseas the birth certificate needs to be obtained where the baby was born. DS is 8 months and we got his British Passport after he was 4 weeks old and only just got his British Birth certifcate. It is very easy to get the Birth Certificate here for the baby. You just need to ensure you have your and your DH [u'>long birth certificates [/u'>along with the other documents that natashab mentioned.

Try Dubai Library distributors. It is misleading as they aren't a library at all but a stationary store. The one on SZR is the largest I think. It is hidden on the service road behind a metro. But there check for the locations on their website. http://www.dubailibrary.com/home.aspx

Ok, I'm clearly the only one who finds it annoying. Crawling back to hole ... No, you are not....I agree! Always re-use the supermarket plastic bags as much as possible, especially for garbage, do the people who saintly carry their own bags buy garbage bags instead? That's something I don't have to do so I guess it all evens out :) The supermarkets may be possibly considering the environment but absolutely they are making money on selling plastic bags. The store that really annoys me over this so-called environmental policy is The One, spending a couple of hundred dirhams on items and then being charged one dirham extra for the bag..just greed..if they were so concerned about saving the planet blah blah then they wouldn't be getting cheap stuff made in mass produced factories in China and then carting it half way across the world ;) And the Ikea paper bags! So irritating, can't be reused for anything really and always rip before you get home..... I use the IKEA paper bags for recycling my paper products ;)

Parking in the Greens with more than one car is certainly a struggle. Most of the flats in the Links Towers (I believe at least in the West Tower) are either 1 or 2 bedrooms so only have 1 car parking space. However across the street in the Golf in both towers there are 3 bedroom flats with 2 car parking spaces. You might have a better chance asking someone there even though you'd have to walk across the street.

Shelly, our DS you know ;) is now in his Pearl car seat - forward facing. You can start them in the Pearl from 9kgs. However they can stay in the Pebble up until 13 kgs. We moved him a couple of weekends ago because he is so tall and was really pushing his legs against the backward facing Pebble. If I see you at a play-group this week you are more than welcome to try your DD in his seat and see what you think. We also moved him because he is sitting up really well. The Pearl you can recline which is a bonus in the family fix. However you cannot use the bugaboo attachments to put the carseat on your buggy. It doesn't have that capability and it would be far too heavy in anycase. So that might be a consideration for you as well. Let me know if you have any other questions. HTH

I went to the first one at Motor City and wouldn't go back I don't think. Granted it was the first one but there were only about 5 tables. It took us a while to find it. There were flags at the main entrance but was on a small street between the buildings and very little parking. Perhaps in time it might grow but if in the same location I have no idea where people would park. Really seemed to be only for the residences of Motor City.

There are people selling 2nd hand baby items from books, toys, clothing you name it..baby baths, slings, strollers ....anything really that their baby/child has grown out of. Also some of the websites have tables there - Baby Souk was at the last one. Also a company that made the cutest tutu's (brand new). Alas I have a DS or I would have got one! Also I learnt about a company that does baby rentals of cots, car seats etc. A great way to sell other than on Dubizzle. HTH

We went to the last one and picked up some great bargins and will go to this one :) HTH Friday 27th May, 9am to midday Uptown Primary School, Mirdif (in the Gymnasium) (Note there will not be a market this Friday 4 March.) What a coincidence!! I just got an email that BA is having a seat sale. NOT a coincidence me thinks as I just read about the strike action on Sky News then got the BA email. Hopefully not too many people get sucked in by the seat sale then have strike action hit them.

From the Links Towers in the Greens visibility is down to pretty much nothing other than the golf course right below. JBR and the Marina are out there somewhere but can't see them now! Even the Arenco building in Media City (?) is pretty much gone. Hope things aren't too bad at Meydan for the race!

I am another Moonpig user. We use the UK site and posting from the UK is so much better than from Dubai even for overseas. Plus I can put reminders in that email me and pop up year after year. I love the photo cards I can create and upload pictures of my DS as Thank you cards. His Granny was just here to visit so I created a thank you card of pictures I took of the both of them during her visit.

Definitely a good investment! Bumblebee in Dubai Mall stocks BabyandMe products now. We got ours from there :) Yes, definately there at Bumble Bee. We bought ours there just last week so they have some in stock. Baby & Me website sells them online as well but if in stock at Bumble Bee get them there. Baby & Me seems less expensive but charges delivery if under 300 Dhs.

I was allowed to go 9 days here. Induced at American Hospital, 23 hours labour then told my DS was still too high and that a c-section was required! I was so tired and done by that point I gave in. Good luck and don't worry nature will take its course. I know you feel awful at the moment but your baby will be here before you know it. As hard as it is try to relax and put your feet up as much as you can.

Is the Al Ain Zoo actually open now? I went to the website today and under the winter months (October to May) it only had timings until the end of November 2010 then said it future park timings will be announced soon. But I wasn't sure if this is typical poor website management not updating or what. Has anyone actually been recently? If so is most of the zoo open? TIA. During the transformation of the Al Ain Zoo into the new Al Ain Wildlife Park & Resort, the zoo stays open to the public as follows: Winter months (October to May): From October 07, 2010 to November 30, 2010 the Park Opening Hours are: 09:00 AM to 08:00 PM** (Daily) Bird Show will be daily at 06:30 PM. Future park timings will be announced soon.

I drank it from about 34 weeks and ate lots of pineapple. However I had a VERY STUBBORN DS. He was 9 days late, had to be induced. Then after 23 hours of labour he still wouldn't drop!! So finally delivered by c-section. So not sure if Raspberry Tea works for everyone but it might make the contractions a bit easier. But loved my epidural! I found my Raspberry Tea at the organics cafe.

Visit Al Badiyah mosque. You cannot go into the actual mosque itself unless you are muslim, but it is the oldest mosque in the UAE. It is right on the coast road between Dibba and Fujeirah city itself. You can't miss it as it is right on the main road. Has parking right outside and is where some of the tour buses stop. http://www.thenational.ae/news/worldwide/south-asia/the-oldest-mosque-in-the-country http://albaal.blogspot.com/2007/05/oldest-mosque.html edited by Hunts in Dubai on 16/02/2011

My DH and I went as "testers" just before the restaurant opened so the staff could practice. The food was very good. But have to agree with other posters, it is pricey and appetizers were on the smaller size. We go again but it would have to be a special occasion. Too pricey for us to just drop into for a casual lunch.

Plumie...your DD sounds just like my DS. He was the same at 8 weeks was in 3-6 month clothing. Now 6 months he has skipped the 6-9 month clothing since he started solids at 5 1/2 months. He JUST can squeeze in some outfits that are 6-9 month. Darnit you ARE going squish into this outfit even once! 9 month clothing is a little big but I'm not bothering to buy anything less. I even bought him new all in one sleepers for 6-9 months at Christmas and already he has outgrown them! It's crazy... the way he is growing and the sizing of baby clothes. I know measure him every 3 weeks and carry his measurements around with me and a measuring tape as I don't trust the labeling on baby clothes anymore. Not like I can try them on him all the time!

5 1/2 months. Even though not quite the 6 months they recommend I felt confident that he was old enough. DS still wakes in the night for a feed so I got into his room and feed him there. He is really good about going back to sleep. I have video monitor beside the bed which allows me to still see him in the dark so I can give a quick check without going into his room. OP, sorry to hijack... HiD, what video monitor do you have? I'm quite keen to get one... ta x We have the Summer slim & secure monitor. Really good :)

Not sure if this will help you out or not but this is what my Mum was sent from the Canadian Government. ...... Update on new visa requirement for Canadian passport holders visiting the United Arab Emirates Regular passport holders who intend to travel to the UAE before January 2011 do not require a visa. Upon arrival, Canadians will receive a 30-day entry permit which may be extended for a limited amount of time. As of January 2, 2011 a visa will be required for tourism and business purposes. Regular passport holders can obtain a visitor or tourist visa through hotels or travel agencies in the UAE or through the offices of Emirates or Etihad Airlines which also offer an online visa application. Canadians travelling to UAE on business or visiting friends (not staying in hotels or travelling via Emirate or Etihad airlines) will require their sponsor (friend, family, or business contact) to apply for their visa from the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Once visa approval is obtained, the sponsor will be required to transmit a copy of the visa by email or fax to the Canadian traveler, who will pick up their original visa on arrival in the UAE. Canadians transiting through the UAE will be able to obtain a transit visa at the airport upon presentation of travel documents indicating that they will leave the UAE within 96 hours to their onward destination. All diplomatic and special passport holders, or persons travelling on blue passports for diplomatic business, must obtain their visa from the Embassy of the UAE before travelling to the United Arab Emirates. Canadians (visitor, resident, etc) who travel without a visa and attempt to enter the UAE after January 1, 2011 will be denied entry to the UAE. This is a decision of the UAE government and neither the Canadian Consulate General in Dubai nor the Embassy of Canada in Abu Dhabi will be able to provide any assistance to these travellers at the port of entry. Visa requirements are subject to change at any time. It is the traveller's responsibility to check with the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates for up-to-date information. Canadian travellers are also invited to check the travel report

Our baby monitor alarm went off!! Scared me half to death. Went running into DS's room to see him sleeping peacefully. Yes, I checked he was breathing I was so scared. The monitor is only a video not a sleeping one under the mattress. Thought it was broken until he woke up for his feed an hour later and was looking at Sky News and noticed that the monitor went off at roughly the same time the earthquake was reported being. Coincidence? I think not! Bizarrely the building fire alarm went off the night before and the monitor went off. If it hadn't then I wouldn't have known what the noise was!

My mother is coming to visit and her flight was already booked before all this. But she is a smart cookie is my Mum. She was born in the UK but immigrated and has lived in Canada for over 35 years. She gave up her UK passport as it was fine to always travel on her Canadian one and the UK one was an added cost they didn't need. However now the UK passport is less expensive to have than the visit visa fee required to come here! As she will now be visiting more often as her new Grandson is here is make sense to get her British Passport. So for any of the Canadians coming to visit that might have immigrated and are lucky enough to be able to have another passport (waiting for the comments on this one) then look at the cost of travelling on a different passport! I agree this whole visa thing is ridiculous. But after talking to a SA lady yesterday the Canadians get off lightly. When her parents come to visit it costs the 1000 AED deposit (returned once proved left the UAE) and 1000 AED for the visit visa!!
