It should be fine as I would often switch sim cards when travelling to other countries. This was with the iPhone 3 though. You need a micro sim for the iPhone 4 so if you are willing to "cut" the sim card that you are going to loan to them then it should work.

Sorry for your loss Forever21. Its not easy to go through something like this especially in a foreign country. Almost 4 years on and I still wonder what my DS would have been like and still calculate how old he would have been now. We drove past the graveyard where he is buried the other day and I was in tears again. I never got to see him as is little heart stopped beating at 20 weeks and I was induced. It feels like a distant memory today. People don't really know what you are going through or how to sympathise with you when a tragedy like this strikes. I hope you have a speedy recovery. We all need our mothers when something like this happens so it will be a blessing to have her around. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and Zama.

I don't think so. You need a license which will only be given if you have a store front and since you are handling food, you would also need a certificate of compliance from MOH. I stand to be corrected though but I have looked into this as well.

OMG! I have no words. Maid almost flooded the house again???? I came out of my room to hear water in her bathroom. She was merrily washing her lunch dishes in the kitchen. Amazing! DH is booking her ticket for tomorrow morning now. At this rate she might just drown us all! I don't know whether I should be laughing or crying at this stage. again?! seriously? okay, so i guess your going to ban. so she did it on purpose? I really don't know what to make of the whole thing. Is she doing it on purpose or is she just plain stupid? I really don't know what to say at this stage.

hi Icedqueen, free zone is very expensive................ You should weigh up the costs of a non freezone - incl sponsor fees and then a freezone. you may need to cough up more cash upfront for your business license and subsequent annual renewals but what are your costs with a sponsor since they own 51%. First do the maths as you may come up short with one of the options. Are you working on a business plan as yet?

Thx oh you should not have posted this one. the self righteous brigade will be here any time to give you a lecture on maids vs. nannies. do a search and you will understand what i am saying.

I'm surprised us frazzled mums haven't bumped into eachother more often! Seriously though, if you're looking around and seeing "all these mums" who look super-serene and coping just fine... don't believe the hype. Many, many of us put on our bravest faces when we're out and about and will gloss over our worries with a bright smile and "oh yes, we're all just fine!"... and then we'll go home and flop, cry, sulk or whatever else happens safely in our own 4 walls. I cannot stress the importance of making time for yourself and your relationship with Dh though. That was our biggest problem when my 1st was born - I was too caught up in the whole motherhood thing and couldn't get my head around making time. All my time was taken up - how could I make more?! Well, you just have to. Regular date nights with DH will help you stay in touch with who you were before motherhood hit you, and that is priceless. Find a trusted friend or hire someone to babysit and go out to the cinema or for a meal - all you need is 3 hours. Even if bubs doesn't settle or cries for those 3 hours, it doesn't matter, it's not the end of the world. Oh, and Icedqueen - I hope it does get better for you... it didn't for me - DD started tantrumming like that at 13 months and is still drawing audiences at 3yrs3 months! I was really hoping that it gets better with time. I will go mad if it continues on for the next 2 years. I think that 'one' has now become the new "terrible twos". About the going out alone with DH and spending quality time with each other, how do you overcome the guilt factor of leaving the LO at home? I sometimes go out grocery shopping alone leaving DD with DH and I just feel so guilty for leaving her. If I think of me time DH just cannot manage alone with her. Even if I leave her for a few minutes with him, he goes crazy and start screaming for me. Did that just now as he could not bath her. Argh it seems to be such a no win situation! I sometimes feel like running away from it all.

What is it with this place and the obsession with bathtubs instead of showers? We have a 3 bed apartment and all three rooms have tubs. Very silly indeed. my son is afraid of the shower...sometimes i think my mil is too. i was hoping for bathrooms with bath tubs separate from really lovely waterfall shower alcoves. you know, the kind of bathrooms from my fantasies? I so wish for a modern walk in rain shower. I have a modern walk in rain shower in my ensuite with a very large soaking tub and a double vanity........quite nice edited by juzzrach on 28/01/2011 Oh you are so lucky! Us plebs will just have to make do with unnecessary tubs.

Al Ain Center in Bur Dubai, Upstairs. There is a shop there that sells Mac products exclusively. Was also going to mention Deira but thought the trolls might start a debate on how you will be supporting child labour or terrorism if you buy from those shops.

How old is your DD? Maybe she is going through a growth spurt right now? In the last 14 months I don't think my DD ever had any pattern. Just when I thought that I nailed it down and she has a routine, it all changes. I wouldn't stress out too much about it as their routines change constantly.

Going through the same thing as the OP. DD is 14 months now and it started when she was around 8 months. Was also working up until 40 weeks and in a demanding job. Decided to stay at home with baby but sometimes I get so frustrated with this mommy thing. DD is constantly pulling at my legs and will never play on her own. She comes to the bathroom with me, wakes up with me, sleeps with me. Plays with DH and laughs with him. If he is sitting and watching TV or on PC, she just plays alongside him but with me she won't even allow me to hold a phone in my hand. I cannot even cook without her pulling at my legs or me tripping all over her. If she takes a nap in the afternoon she wants me to lay down next to her. As soon as I jump up from the bed, she wakes up. Its just so tiring and I keep my sanity by saying that this is just a phase and that it will get better. For now I don't want to even think about having number 2. Lets hope that changes though! I thought I was the only one feeling that way. I see people in malls with their kids and they sit so well in their prams. I am the frazzled looking mom running behind DD, pushing pram in one hand while she throws everything off shelves. If I try to keep her in the pram, she screams blue murder and I get all these looks from people. Its so difficult right now but I am hoping that it will get better as she grows.

DD is 14 months now and has reduced from 1 feed at night to nothing over the past 2 weeks. Yay! I can see that my b's are getting smaller! Moved from a C to a E during this time so loving that I can get back into a D now. I am not complaining. I just give her lots of milk products during the day now. I was getting really tired of the feeding but I applaud woman who can breastfeed beyond 12 months.

Please help my maid has taken my bikini, what to do!!! lol What kind of bikini was it? If it was last season then she did you a favour by taking it. If this season then maybe you should punish her by making her wear it while working... but then you will be opening up a whole new can of worms. Sorry but you should not leave your bikini lying around! And also do your own laundry - how dare you ask the maid to do laundry. Maids are also human and they want to wear bikinis sometimes.

I just received a parcel via USPS last week. Took about a week longer than Aramex but was definitely cheaper. I paid Dhs2 as customs duty or maybe a handling charge and the parcel was valued at around $160. Mine did not come to the address stated on the package. I had a tracking number and checked online on the USPS site and it was updated constantly. I called the central post office number (you can find it online) and asked if it had arrived and which post office I should collect it at - they were quite helpful when I called.

I'm all maided out after having full times for years. Now the P/T agency is driving me nuts lol! Its like a no win situation here. Just so frustrating knowing that we spend so much for this. This maid business must be quite profitable here. "they" should ammend the laws.. But then "they" will not make 5k+++ every time we expats hire a new maid. So "they" win, the agency wins and we just cough up all that cash. Did someone mention something about "tax free"???

I have a maid question but don't think I dare ask LOL! lol... don't ask the q they will kill you and analyse your foot size and underwear that you wear as well. yes I am sending her back. i think she just wants out so is making up stories. well now i have her mopping the floors with a cloth and on her knees. oh what a bad employer I am! tsk tsk! i even made her scrub the carpets and clean all the windows. now i am thinking of what other hard labour I could put her through before she goes. Hope she goes quickly and quietly. Yeah I hope so too. Its been a struggle to get her to even clean up today. With all this maid drama here in Dubai I don't think I will bother getting another one.

What's so special about Kitchen Aid? I really wanted one at some point and then did some research on the machine. Its only 300W whereas the Kenwood Major is 1400W so in terms of power at least the Kenwood has more. I also find that the Kenwood has so many more features and uses - like the liquidiser and coffee grinder, pasta attachment, centrifugal juicer, and sausage maker so why opt for a machine that has such low power output?

Asked her to wipe down baby bed that was stored in alcove next to my guest room, with a damp rag. Instead she took a water hose to it, ruining the bed and flooding the guest room. yep, you cannot charge her for it. But you can replace her if you think she will do more things like this. It has crossed my mind since yesterday. She has done some strange things before but this one is the limit I guess. She does not seem to possess any common sense so I will have to look at this as a very costly mistake! On that note... does anyone know if we can sponsor a maid from SA or Zimbabwe? They are normally such sweet ladies and really do their work so much better.

Haven't yet made a final decision. Some interesting comments though. Yes I should have had insurance but we just installed the floors about a month ago and did not even think about it. Its quite heartless to make her pay for it though but how else does one make her understand that it is a costly mistake? I have spoken to her but it seems like she just doesn't care or maybe does not understand?

No I don't have insurance and yes I have explained to her from the first day that she must not use a wet mop on the floors. Must dry the mop completely when mopping up. Told her lots of times to not wet the floor. Even if there are drops of water on the floor I have explained to her that she must not leave it to stand on the floors as it will damage them. I just did her visa in December so its not easy to just send her back.
