Germany, austria, Italy, France and Switzerland. You got to laugh when you hear people say, "you do pay taxes in dubai, think of all the salik..." errrr it's 4 ****** dirhams. Getting in and out of France we paid close to a hundred euros. Every couple of exits, toll gates.

I need some dress tops for my 8year old DD. Not just t shirts or tank tops. I have a couple of dressy trousers and capris with belts for her that need matching. Navy blue, beige, dusty pink, white are the colours I am looking for. Had to luck at debenhams, don't have time to go to all the shops. Can you suggest where I can look? PS thanks to all who have replied to my thread about visitors from a couple of days ago, will read and reply soon.

Hi Irooni, Nope, kids in bed at all hours, napping in afternoons, hours upon hours in the kitchen, eating huge meals 3 times a day, trips here there and everywhere, ferrying the guests for shopping expeditions .... no routine at all when we have visitors. What about you??????? Alismum, I bet all I have this is when your Husband's family comes. It is all related to being "irooni" and the expectations are families, specially in laws have. This past month my MIL was with us (for a 2nd month in a 3 month span). My sister and her family are moving back home and didn't renew their flat, so she, her husband, and 2 children under 4, and my other sister, are all here with me. I don't have a maid. The meal preparations, cleaning, washing, entertaining, never ending trips to Deira, Satwa and malls....all of this and off course the children going to school, homework, activities, playdates and birthday parties, as usual. after all the service, my MIL has had the nerve to fault and criticise my child rearing practices, cooking and housekeeping skills, to my sisters. When it's just us as a family, the whole house is as quiet as a graveyard by 8pm. We are up and running by 6 again. I have been sooo exhausted physically and mentally and busy running around like a headless chicken, I havent been able to keep up with the children's bed and wake time, and they had breakfast on the go, and my sister has bathed them a couple of times with her children instead of me. So now I am the worst mother in the world. The ***** she has said behind my back, about how my children are not clean, and malnourished cause of bad breakfasts, and how my car is dirty and my drawers are unorganised....... I am so sick and tired of her. She doesnt think of how hard it is to keep up with your own routine when yu have 1000 other things to do for everyone else. This is what I get for 2 months of endless service, waiting on her hand and foot and funding all her shopping!!!! A mother in law will never ever be your own mother. The only visitors we really get are my parents (in two lots) who understand my routine and let me get on with it. We do other "stuff" while the kids are at school. Lucky you!:)) <em>edited by Irooni on 27/06/2012</em>

I am so sorry Sanddy, it looks like I am not being very eloquent tonight and I can't get my point across properly. As I mentioned first I think it's a great idea. I am all for it really, I was just trying to say that the flip side maybe, but I can see that I have failed miserably. all in all I think such charitable acts are really great. This past year i have started giving my children a box in Halloween and I put a 150dhs in each in box (as their costume's and the sweetys that I buy cost) and they go trick or treating to collect money for charity. So I am all for your idea, let's leave it at that's:) Happy birthday to your LO x

We all heard birthday parties for our children to have fun and celebrate with the friends they hold dear. We are not selling a service of entertainment in return for gifts. I am sorry but when you mentioned "at my expense", it sounded strange to me. Its just my opinion. If i held my charitable cause dear, I would ask for donations in lieu of gifts as well. On a different note, I don't agree with the plastic rubbish and sugary things in the loot bags. Whenever my children get them, their lifetime never goes past the car ride back home. I always give books inscribed by my children.

As great as the idea is. I think it would only be fair if you asked for a donation to the same charity as gifts for your child. It really loses meaning when you are receding material goods as gifts but your return gift is a donation to charity.
