Ladies, I have been asked several times by many friends and acquaintances and some ladies from this forum to start a persian/iranian cuisine class. Please voice your interest if you would be interested. The classes will be divided into several modules like, rice stews, kebabs, soups, dessert frittatas..... They will be held at my villa in silicon oasis during school hours. It is all just an idea. Ow. However I will start if there is enough interest. Thanks

Trousers/jeans/leggings with a trench coat or long botton down shirt with a head scarf. You can get a scarf (pashmina style) from lifestyle for about 12dhs available in all colours. Don't worry about covering every strand of hair. It is not as simple as you think. I support one particular charity. Most of fancy toys, most Dubai children have, mean nothing to these particular children. Up to this point (not further caused I won't have anymore) I have given them, the toys like dolls, doll clothing, cars and trains. The rest of them get sold and the money is given to them. Take a 500dhs leapfrog toy to these children, they will look at it and walk away! But a small die cast car will make their year. Basic clothing like jeans, t shirts, tops, leggings and the sort, I give them. Fancy dress from monsoon, bought for 400dhs, will be sold for a 100dhs and the money donated. If I sell 10, 10dhs items, it is a 100dhs, which converts to 10,000 of their currency. Yes, it is a lot of work, it takes a lot of time, but in the end it is worth it. On the flip side of the coin, there are many low income families in Dubai, who are familiar with the glam and their children see it and want it but the parents cannot afford it. So such sales will always benefit them.

There are many groups on Facebook that work much better than Dubizzle for selling quality items. One is called "pre loved Dubai" , once you join that you will get other relevant group suggestions too. Many area classified groups as well, like silicon, midriff, jolt, marina, discovery gardens..... Hope this helps

Just wondering.... If you were the receptionist at a medical clinic, and when calling to make an appointment for the first time, I asked you where the doctor's qualifications were from, and what their approximate age was, would you be offended at that too? I am not the receptionist. But certinaly I will call you a racist if after making appointment you call it off. Because You found that Doctor was some Indian, regardless of his experience and qualification. Even if You reject him because of his age. He might be more qualified and experienced than older doctors. Never judge a book by its title. edited by lilly111 on 19/04/2014 I never said you were the receptionist, I said "if you were". I didn't say anything about where the doctor is form, it was about where the QUALIFICATIONS are from. If I go to a clinic where one doctor is a 27 year old with qualifications from Cambodia(!) and one doctor is a 52 year old with qualifications from England, you can bet money I will go with the latter! No it is not racist, the one with the qualifications from Cambodia could be from England and one with the English qualifications could be from Burkina Faso! Where the person is from does not matter to me, it is where they were trained that matters. Which is why the boards, posters and cards read, British qualified, German qualified, American board member ...... Because it makes a world of difference and I don't care if it is not politically correct!! edited by Irooni on 19/04/2014

Unschooling is different from homeschooling. Homeschooling follows a curriculum, you do maths, English and the others, only at home. Whereas unschooling believes you learn better through "natural life experiences including play, household responsibilities, personal interests and curiosity, internships and work experience, travel, books, elective classes, family, mentors, and social interaction".

I am only judging what the content of the original post was by the title and I still haven't read the replies by everyone else. Many moons, EW was fun and lively and questions posted got an answer (usually even cross posted) in a matter of minutes if not seconds. The reason for that was that the old permanent posters like spongemonkey, livelytrish, lolacat, anondubai, stardoll, busybee, dinky, banana muffin and myself and older posters of the sort were here everyday. We would post news links and discuss them, ask opinions, have debates, have some cyber fun and banter and THEN, when newer non permanent posters came along, we were there to answer their questions. So the board served its purpose in the end. Then, they tightened the rules! No chats, no fun, ban..etc...... The board died!!!! Nothing was happening. Facebook groups replaced EW. Admin, thought, hmmmm.... This cannot be good! They brought in the stars, the rating and the rest. Now the board has begun to liven up again, it is taking off again and this is the direction the admin wants it to go. If there is no fun and chat between some regular members, eventually there will only be only new people asking questions for information with no one around to answer them! So let everyone have their fun and the board to serve its purpose. edited by Irooni on 16/04/2014 edited by Irooni on 16/04/2014

Hello Sheila It really depends on how close you are to the couple. In iran giving gold coins and/or gold jewelery is customary. A gold coin costs just under a 1000dhs now, you can also buy buy half or quarter coins. They are easily available at any exchange or jewellers in Iran. HTH If you need help with anything else about your trip just send me an email to [email protected]

Hi Rickadon, thanks for your reply. Honestly, I didn't mean to insinuate that at all. I. Have been trying to convince her that many in Dubai would love to go to either school and that she is lucky to get a space with the emirates debenture. I only said, she isn't keen on either, 1) because she really isn't and 2) to say she feels the same about both, and is not leaning towards or favouring either. That's all. I understand that schools specially the two mentioned above are quite emotive subjects on this board. Her family had been apart for too long now and I am just trying to do the best to help her make her decision and hopefully come here in September. Thanks again. edited by Irooni on 14/03/2014

We have some friends coming to Dubai in September after hubby has already been here in Dubai for a couple of years. They have been on the DESS and Jess wait lists and some places are coming up for them. The children will be going into Year 7 and Year 5 in September. The mum cannot decide if she wants to do Dess for year 5 and desc for year 7 or Jess AR for both. The other thing is that the younger one might have to go yo Jess jumeirah as a year 5 place in Jess AR is not confirmed yet. She is not really keen on either as the children go to a top prep school in the London, which is why she has stayed there until now. Unfortunately her husband is not keen on spending much more than the EK allowance on the schools and these two schools are her only options. Can anyone please compare the two? Is one academically stronger than the other? Better teachers? Better organisation and pastoral care? Better facilities ? I would appreciate any help as she is desperate for some feedback. Many thanks edited by Irooni on 14/03/2014

I think that some of you ladies really are suffering from a MIL complex. Yes, I'm sure that some people do have real problems with MILs from cultures where family is more important than the individual and the senior female figure rules the roost, but from everything the OP says this was a case of a an upset child being comforted by a granny. And, I sat on my hands earlier on today when I first read the post but I will say it now.................the OP is at work all day, expecting and as a result too tired to take care of her child at night. Just how do you suppose her child feels about that? Probably just glad that granny was there to give comfort. To the OP, given that you are so stressed out, perhaps time to re evaluate your do it by the book parenting, and stop being a drama queen, pregnancy hormones or not. ????

Last year, he had some medical issues and had gone back to India. I need a GI doctor, all the time, so I was forced to switch. German lady doctor at American hospital, not as good as doctor D, definitely no where near as nice as him, but ok. I think her name is doctor regina.
