Wow Claire, you picked up on my only reservation! The children at school.... Ahhhh..... Landline! If I am out and about during school hours, I will leave it on silent and [b'>check it a couple of times an hour [/b'>to return calls to the school in case god forbid, something has happened. :\: Yes, sue62, that's how sick of it I am!I have 2 mobile numbers. I started with du, DH hates their coverage so he bought me an Etisalat one. Then there is the landline. Sometimes if I want to go upstairs for a bit, I feel I have to take all 3 up with me and then back down again!!! Friends and family call and when I pick up,the first thing I hear Is......goshhhh why are you picking up your phone??? Ahhh I went to the bathroom!!! I was in the shower! Went upstairs/downstairs for a minute! Why do we have to be available and on call like a phone operator every minute of the day???? You have to be one of the worst for picking up your phone and keeping it turned on! My god!!! I knew it was you all along, i just didnt tell you cause i thought you would deny it as you did the last time!:((( Now YOU HUSH!!! You are one of the very few people who always always gets a call back from me! Off course you are! You are on the NORMAL people I know list! :)xx **********Blushing************ Me me me me me, I'm special!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The children at school, the only thing holding me back..... I think I will just get them a dedicated line! I am not exaggerating, the extent of how dramatic this is sounding is exactly how tired I am from it all. you do when your children are at school. If there's an emergency or they are ill the school will need to speak to you straight away, not in half an hour !!

I work from home and usually leave my Blackberry in the car or near the front door, often it is on silent. I have another line at home that I use for work only, and I always remind the kids that they should call that number, or inform the school nurse of it. I can always be reached by direct family members one way or another. DH will just call the maid on her mobile if it is urgent. I just cannot stand the phone going.....that ringing does my head in. Oh IAMVP I think I just fell in love with you! The ringing....the ringing really annoys life out of me! edited by Irooni on 29/11/2011

As of tomorrow morning I am switching my mobile phone off and leaving it in the car. It will be turned on in case of an emergency on the road PERIOD I am so sick and tired of friends and family keeping tabs on you with with a zillion calls everyday, sick of unneccessary texts, risks of handling it on the road.....ahhhhh! God forbid you decide to go to bed early at night or sleep 3 mins extra during the day..... 1000 missed calls, alternating between mobile phone numbers and the landline..... And all this time no message or text! So I bet it is not THAT important! If I call someone I will call them ONCE, if the call is missed, they will see the missed call and call you back when they can, why call 56 million times? I am sorry I am ranting away and not make much sense but I really needed to ge this off my chest! Anyone else not in love with phones and yapping on them?

A really, really rich family with a beautiful home, who celebrates christmas but can't be bother themselves with decorating and want someone else to do it. Then they will give me, 10 of thousands of dirhams, to buy everything christmas-i and I will decorate their house, their kitchen, their bathrooms, their garden and the exterior of the house. Then I will walk around, indulge the beauty, say Happy Christmas and leave!!:) And no I am not advertising services and I don't want to get paid for it!!

I have just had my baby in the UK and here they are quite pushy about the TB vaccine, however after doing some research i realised its not effective and to prove that more both me and DH ended up getting TB on one of our travels despite being vaccinated as babies. Is it routinely done in Dubai or your home country? Please share your views as i cant find much info on the net My son got it at birth in Bahrain. My daughter was born in Canada and didn't get it. I will not vaccinate her.

The warehouse sale, the one held in Jumeirah? I thought it was in October too, so wondering if I had missed it. IAMVP, I am green with envy - books are the only things I obsess about. Lucky you! So glad I am not alone. The other day my son was being a bit rough with one of his books and I snapped and said "heyyyy that's my hermes bag and bvlgari sunglasses!" I am scared to admit how much I have spent on books for them. Obsessed for sure:)

What or huh instead of pardon. 'Pardon' is disliked by the upper class, apparently. Read 'Watching the English' by Kate Fox. Hilarious! Can someone please elaborate on this? To me upper or lower class, what just sounds rude! Pardon is so much more polite. Nancy Mitford, (English aristo) in her article “The English Aristocracy” published with other essays about social classes in "Noblesse Oblige", (1950's) made the distinction between "what" and "pardon" (and many other "U" and "Non-U" words). She also maintained that you should eat peas with a spoon, or something - maybe from your knife, not the fork, or maybe one at a time from the fork tines, I can't remember. Thank you, I will look this up. edited by Irooni on 21/11/2011

Is it okay to go against the tide and suggest something different? I am always for sentimental gifts, always! They are things that the person could keep for a lifetime. But at this age (although it doesn't sound lovely to say at his time) the lifetime ahead is limited. They have had a lifetime of birthdays with sentimental gifts. Maybe give her a voucher for 6 months or a year of fresh home cooked style meals from somewhere? A cruise around the med? A voucher for a years worth of hairstyling? Hope you have a fab time celebrating and happy birthday to your Gran. ETA: I always always give sentimental gifts cause I know it will be different and not a repeat. In this case you can not do the sentimental gift and give nan something different. edited by Irooni on 17/11/2011
