GOOD breakfast joints. And I'm not talking about Brunch and booze. I'm talking about breakfast places that serve p0rk, pancakes, waffles, the works (+the healthy stuff too like yogurts etc.)... back home we have Cora's and many other small franchises that are lined up out the door on the weekends and pretty busy weekdays too. (24 hr. breakfast. 'cause you need to be able to have access to pancakes 24 hrs. a day ;) ) edited by andreasmullet on 07/05/2013 Lime tree cafe They don't serve p!g I thought they did! Have been many times, and heard friends ordering bacon. I might be mistaken.

Dubai is also definitely missing Target! Quinn, I was thinking of posting the same thing, but figured the Brits wouldn't have a clue what I was talking about. I CANNOT wait to go to Target in a few weeks when we're home. Nice store, good quality products, low prices. Walmart is like Carrefour here, but I have yet to see a Target equivalent. Carrefour will never be walmart not in it's wildest dreams ;)

Ooh, Quinn10, I second the Target statement! A reasonably priced place to grab organic foods, great looking clothes, and all your household needs. (And before anyone jumps on me to say that I'm describing Carrefour, I challenge you to shop at a Target and tell me it's anything remotely like shopping at Carrefour.) Also, an Old Navy would be nice. Or an Etsy-like site that's based in the UAE so I can tell my husband I'm not paying an arm and a leg for shipping costs anymore. No comparison between target/Walmart and carrefour , none whatsoever! Love them both ;)

Alismum, is hubby from the south of Iran? If you don't mind? ;) just judging from fish in sauce and the chilis :) He is Irooni, but the fish in sauce I make isn't a persian dish, just something I concocted :). He is the only person I know who eats a handful of chillis with every meal. I am too. Khoramshahr/abadan :) have you made ghalieh mahi before?

we eat the same here more or less as we do at home - lamb chops, salmon, beef or chicken casserole, tonight we just had beef stroganoff and rice, curry, breaded fish fillets and chips, sausage and mash, spag bol, mince, roast, bbq... Are you serious? edited by Irooni on 06/05/2013 yes, she has a growing boy and there is no filling them up at times - mind you his feet are now the length of a lighthouse. :DM edited by DesertRose1958 on 07/05/2013 I can imagine. My son is almost 7 now and he is hungry all day long. I will go bankrupt when he is in his teens ;)

But I have never made 8 different dishes for one dinner, unless I have had a dinner party. Is that not a lot of food?

The first time I cooked with it. I throw out the rice. Thought it was the rice. The second time I added it to a salad and realised it was the salt ;) ewww :(

I tried it for a healthier option. It tasted vile, not that it is not salty, it has an extra taste. Like a metallic taste. Is it just me?

My son had this condition at birth. At the time I was living in Bahrain. I flew here to take him to Dr. M. Haghi, cause I trust his diagnosis. He said the it's a blocked tear duct and it is usually resolved by 24months on its own and that if it isn't he would need surgery. Luckily, it stopped just a bit after his second birthday. His number is +971 4 222 91 81, Dr. M. Haghi.

Every year I went through between 4-6 lunchboxes per child. With yoghurt spills, fruit boxes being put back without lids and...... I wash them a lot and they always tore or faded colour very quickly. This year I bought the little backpacks from pottery barn and they look like they did the first day in the shop. They have been chucked into the machine at least twice a week. They don't have cartoon characters on them, but they are practical and worth every dirham. I highly recommend them.

It is hereditary. Most probably your father had it and you are the carrier and passed it on to your sons. My father, his brother and my male cousins had it. Now my cousin's son, my nephews and my son have it. There is a whole list of foods and meds to stay away from if it's severe. If you give me your email I can email it to you. Thankfully my son's is very mild, but he cannot have fava beans. Make sure your sons never have falafel or "foul" here.

Buy and ship. It is extremely difficult to find furniture in Dubai for a reasonable price, specially if you are looking for something in particular.

Housework and working with cleaning products, have left me with dry, cracked, sore and painful hands. I hate wearing gloves for working in the kitchen, specially washing dishes. Can you recommend gloves that are not bulky, heavy and are not difficult to work with? Thank you edited by Irooni on 30/03/2013

Ladies please get a grip!!! Don't turn this into an animal cruelty and animal rights thread! I posted to ask to make sure, despite what my friend said, has done and has worked. All I know is that there must be an element of truth to what she said, cause the fish lasting this long is surely better than what I did that killed them in a couple of days. I will start feeding them today and keep you posted.

We buy goldfish for our new year (Nourooz) celebrations every year. Mine have always died the first few days. I changed their water everyday (with a bit of the old water and let the new water sit for a few hours first), fed them every day and used some sort of water conditioner. A friend's goldfish made it from last Nourooz to this Nourooz, a whole year!!! Without food! She says that the minerals in Dubai water are enough to keep the fish going!!! Don't know how scientific that is but the fish is alive and well! I thought I will try her way this year and this is the first year that they have lasted this long! edited by Irooni on 29/03/2013
