Hi, CONGRATS! you could also consider Al Rahba Hospital, they have a very good NICU, I delivered here in 2011 and had a very good experience, also government hospital, many private hospitals will now refer here over the corniche in case of complications as its not as busy as Corniche but has same standards of care. Corniche however, is the specialist hospital and especially with twins, I would recommend going there. They now have a women's health clinic in Al Bateen where you can register and do your ante natal checks and its a lot less hectic than going to the corniche itself, which is always busy and a 20 minute appointment will inevitably take you about 3 hours, the rooms aren't private and the administration can drive you to tears but I have yet to hear anyone complain about the competence of medical staff or standard of care. This is where I would go were I to have twins! I know quite a few people with twins and one of the mums was going to set up a group after the summer, I will find out whats happening with that and will update (might be a few days).

Hi Friendly Z, have you looked up Abu Dhabi Mums, depending on your kids ages, there are lots of different activities and you will meet up with other mums in the same boat. Regarding accommodation near Brighton College, are you looking at the Khalifa Park area (also known as Maqtaa) ? There are some nice villas there, what do you need to know? Are you looking at other areas too? as before happy to help out, the shoe has been on the other foot so to speak and I was lucky to meet great friends who showed me the ropes., happy dot dhabi at g m a i l dot com

Hello! Welcome to AD, it can be overwhelming at first but you will make friends in no time! People are generally much more open as we are all in the same boat. Unfortunately I won't be much use for socialising as I have a one year old but can defo meet up for coffee, I've been here almost 4 years now so can help out with the property questions and put you in touch with some networking groups etc. Drop me an email happy dot dhabi at g m a I l dot com

The Westin in Abu Dhabi are doing a weekend deal, it's 800 for a room and you get 800 credit to spend in the hotel, they also have some spa offers on. Rooms are lovely and overlooking the golf course. If you do opt for AD you can have afternoon tea at Emirates Palace, and a visit to the Grand Mosque is a must. Oh and you could propel her into her thirties with a ride on the world's fastest rollercoaster at Ferrari World! I think theres some good offers on at The Park Hyatt (on Saadiyat) too, overlooking beautiful beach, think its something like 1600 all inclusive, worth checking out for something a bit different. I'm an AD girl, in case you didnt guess that already :)

Hi Theres quite a few people living in Al Reef with kids at BISAD, Al Reef does have a good community feel and you can get a 5 bed with a pool for 150k just now (have a look on Dubizzle). There's usually an open house on a Saturday with a few agents, (Nationwide, Pink, PSI, The Specialists) worth taking a drive up and follow their signs to have a nosey around. PErsonally I think it's a great place for younger kids, what lets it down is the lack of facilities, eg shops but there is a small corner shop and a takeaway and its a 15 minute drive to Abelas Supermarket, so not too bad. For furniture you can also check out Home Centre (Marina Mall, Dalma Mall) or Homes R Us (Madinat Zayed centre - on Muroor Road - Street 4 between Electra, Street 7 and passport Street 9) both have reasonably priced furniture, and there's always IKEA on Yas Island. I don't have a maid but use a company who come twice a week and are very reliable, there are lots of companies out there, all charging AED 30 to AED 40 per hour approx. Not everyone has a maid, but it is very common as it's much more economical than paying a cleaning company and a babysitter, but it's not for everyone - me included, I don't like the idea of someone living in our home, although I do like the idea of a clean and tidy house all the time - cant have it all I guess! Good luck

Hi, just wanted to say I'm pleased for you that you seem to be making progress, I know only too well how overwhelming it can be getting to grips with being a mum and caring for a baby without the fussiness, upset and wind to try and figure out. It sounds like you made progress trying to figure out your baby's feelings using your instincts . We didn't have Colic Calm but used Infacol which was OK, but did sometimes cause constipation, but it might be worth a try until you get the Colic Calm, it is at least easy to source here. Seems like things are coming together and you are realising what a great mum you really are x

Hiya! Welcome to Abu Dhabi! You should check out Abu Dhabi Mums, they have a facebook site and a website (although this is a little out of date). There are LOADS of activities on during the week for all different ages. This afternoon there is a "Mix and Match" on which is basically a large room with lots of space and lots of toys for children of all ages up to age 6. This is at Zayed Sports City, same building as the Tennis Stadium in the Majlis room around the back. IT runs from 3.30 to 5.30 today and is also on Wed morning 10 to 12. You can go along for a look see, it's 20dhs, and find out more about AD Mums, then if you wish you can join for 150dhs and have access to lots of different groups and activities, you definitely wont be bored and will meet lots of other expat mums in the same position as you. I am knowledgeble on this as I went last week myself for the first time with my 1 year old and will definitely go back. Hope this helps!

Hi Firstly, how old is your baby? This will make it easier to understand the reasons why he is like this, although I am guessing he is still very small. You mentioned the blocked nose, what have you tried to get rid if this? This may be causing discomfort and if this was eased he may sleep better, we used a gentle saline spray up the nostrils, baby hated it at the time but a few seconds and the mucus was loosened and out. Your doctor or pharmacist can advise you on an age - appropriate one. Also, if baby sleeps with head a little elevated (we propped up the mattress slightly) this can help stuffy nose. I have also heard others say rubbing a little vicks on baby's feet helps, (as it's too strong to be near delicate noses) but havent tried this myself. I think if you can sort this area of discomfort you may solve the problem or can at least rule this out as a cause. I think it may be worth a trip to the docs to sort out the wind issue if you have tried to do so yourself already, just to rule out anything medical. Have you considered a baby carrier, I know many people who swear by them, babies often fall asleep being carried around in them, as they like being close to their mummies and it can be calming for them and gives you two free hands to drink tea and eat biscuits as required.

Hi, I delivered at Al Rahba, which is a govt hospital on the outskirts of AD and had a very good experience, I switched here after about 5 months, I was attending Al Noor in Airport Rd and felt more comfortable at Al Rahba. I seen Dr Marwan at Al Noor, he is VERY popular, I have lots of friends who have delivered with him, but I can honestly say I don't know anyone who has had a natural birth there, of course, the numbers of people I know are limited, but my feeling was I heard about an awful lot of emergency c-sections and it really put me off. Its always a doctor you see for your ante-natal appointments, the hospital itself is nice and modern and you would have your own room after delivering which is also nice, but the general consensus is the nurses providing after care are no help at all, there is literally no lactation support provided (someone I know quoted the cleaning lady as being quite helpful - I kid you not). The main maternity hospital in Abu Dhabi is The corniche, it has its faults too, waiting times are ridiculous (AL Noor not much better TBH) but you can see a midwife, they have a lactation clinic and should there be any problems or complications at a private hospital, you would be referred to Corniche as it is the specialist place in AD. You will most likely end up sharing a room, its certainly not luxury and the administration is eye wateringly bad, but I think overall, in terms of care, this is the best option. I opted for Al Rahba as its close to where I live and pretty much the same standards as Corniche, except I had to see a doctor for my ante natal appointments and I got my own room! Many people will choose to register at a hospital and go to an ob / gyn clinic for their appointments, Dr Denise Howard at Healthplus Al Bandar and Dr Tank at Swedish Medical Centre are both very popular. If you do opt for Al Noor, and lets face it the convenience would make life much easier for you, Dr Marwan speaks excellent English, so no communication issues there at all. All hospitals have baby and mum rooming in as far as I know, govt hospitals will let dad stay for a while but not overnight, Al Noor will allow husbands to stay. For general doctor visits, lots of people use the German Medical Centre, Healthplus Al Bandar, Cure Clinic and Gulf Diagnostics. Theres another forum you might want to google, for Abu Dhabi Woman and thres quite a few discussions on there. GOOD LUCK!

Stovetop, we recently travelled with my 15 month old and I was dreading it, 6 hour flight then changeover in Amsterdam and another 1.5 hour flight, it was totally fine! I brought plenty of snacks she liked, I had kept some of her favourite toys and books hidden for a few days prior to travelling so she was really pleased to see them appear (one by one, as she got bored!). I bought a little magnetic drawing thing at the airport, and that was a major success as were some stickers. I also didnt allow her to walk around on the plane, in the airport I encouraged her to walk around as much as possible but on the flight I knew if she was out of her seat once she wouldn't want to go back in it, so I sat her next to the window and didn't offer up walking around as an option. The remote control for the TV kept her intrigued for a while and she did watch a little TV, I just made sure to be on the ball and when I noticed her getting bored or frustrated distracted her with something else. She also slept quite a lot, the movement of the plane does seem to make her sleepy, so maybe take along a comfy blanket. We didn't have ear problems as if they are sucking on something at take off and landing it seems to cancel out the ear pressure, so DD still has her binkie and this meant no issues, I am sure a bottle or some sorts would work just as well. Good luck, it wont be half as bad as you think it may be! And don't worry about other passengers, if they are annoyed they can always put their headphones on, just make sure you and your LO are comfy and happy!

I have always fed at the table, especially as your baby is very young, they are much more portable and easy to handle. I personally used a nursing cover and would always try and be seated somewhere where I wasn't on show to the entire restaurant! Have fed my baby in food courts, coffee shops and 5 star hotels and have never had a negative comment. It's easiest for you and best for the baby so try not to be self conscious (easier said than done, I know). A good bit of advice I got was to practice at home in front of a mirror and you will see yourself what any passers by can see and you can adjust accordingly so that when you're out and about you're are confident that you are not flashing too much flesh! On that note, I always wore a nursing bra with a vest/ cami over the top, then my regular blouse or tshirt on top, that way you could pull the cami down at the top, open the bra and your baby could feed, but your tummy and sides wouldn't be exposed. This combo, with a nursing cover is sooooo discrete most people wouldn't even notice. And in any event your fellow diners would rather see a pair of cute legs sticking out from a nursing cover than listen to a crying hungry baby! Don't go to bathrooms as kiwispiers says, there's a lot of germs and it's not comfortable. And congratulations on your new baby. X

If you'd be more comfortable bottle feeding in public (I understand a wriggly 7 month old can be a challenge) you could consider pumping at home and giving expressed milk in a bottle, that way your LO, who is clearly doing well on breastmilk can continue with this, and you would be more comfortable with the bottle feeding (also means daddy can take a turn!) . And you needn't worry about Spinneys running out of his favourite brand! Be aware that if you regularly replace breast feelings with bottle feelings your supply will adjust accordingly and you may produce less. Of course if you're sure you want to go with the formula sometimes, there's lots of brands to try, I was advised similac was most similar to breast milk so this might be a good starting point.

Sigh, why does it always have to be about being a better person or understanding life? It's a lighthearted chat about what your hubby bought you as a present, I didn't expect a present but gratefully accepted my gift. Does that make me shallow and materialistic? All too often people are quick with their sweeping statements, and it's a very immature approach, everyone is different and if you don't think a " push present" is necessary, then that's fine by me, but don't go around with your holier than thou attitude looking down on someone who got a sparkler from their hubby because he was happy to have a child and wanted to buy his wife a gift. I do understand that the commercialism of all family related events is not to everyones taste, me included, but this wasn't about that. Chill.

I also recommend the Ergo, i had a Baby Bjorn for the first year or so and I did really like it, but my baby was getting too big for it and I wanted something that would fit her well for travelling for the next few months at least. I opted for the Ergo as it would do my big girl now and also if we have another baby, I would get full use out of it all over again from newborn. Wow, the difference was unreal, so much more comfortable for me to wear, and as it's all soft fabric, easier to roll up into a bag when not using. I bought mine from Smitten in Dubai Marina Mall, worth going there to try one out rather than buying online if you're unsure, but I really cannot recommend Ergo highly enough.

Hi There are lots of get togetherS arranged in al rEef, there are some very active Facebook sites for al reef Residents that you will find of use, especially baby al reef. While there are pool facilities, there is only one small grocery store, and its a 15 minute drive along the highway to the nearest supermarket. However, on the plus side there are lots of kids and a couple of playparks too. You might also want to check out abu dhabi mums its a group who organise activities for mums and babies, would be especially good over summer when going outdoors isn't an option, I believe they host a lot of groups at Zayed sports city, I haven't been yet but plan to soon. I live in al reef so can only tell you what its like here, I know al muneera is closer to shops etc and I am sure the accommodation will be nice. If You want any more info just ask!

I always call when booking and ask for the best rotana rewards rate, al ain rotana told me its 15% off their best rate, I agree it varies from hotel to hotel, we ended up getting a good rate at The Cove when we booked in advance. Sometimes it's cheaper to,book online. Doesn't really make sense, but worth it for the meal discounts, the voucher and the late checkouts. Just don't expect too much from the room rates.

Yep, hubby there all through delivery, I delivered at1am and he stayed with us for a few hours after. Afterwards visiting is 10am t 10pm. Can't comment on having a female companion stay, I don't think it would be allowed but you would really need to ask. Re tour, I just wandered up to maternity and asked the nurses there if I could have a look around so I knew what to expect when I had my baby, the nurses were lovely and very accommodating, showed me the delivery room and answered my questions, although I guess I was lucky enough to go when they were quiet. If you are going to just turn up and try for walk in appointment my advice would be to get there early. If you want to chat offline you can get me at happy . Dhabi at g mail . C o m

I can't say for certain but I am pretty sure they would accept you at 33 weeks, why wouldn't they, when I switched here at around 6 months I did have to repeat all the blood tests etc but if you can get a copy of your records from the other hospital I am sure that would be helpful. They don't have a clinic off site, best to go to hospital, they do take some walk ins but it can get really busy best to call for an appointment, or even drive up and have a look around and make appointment when you are there. I heard that they will soon start a Saturday ob gyn clinic, this would have been super helpful for me last year, not sure if its started yet.. When I went you couldn't get a specific doctor, quite often seeing different one everytime, I am not sure if thiS has changed. If you are given the option which doctor to sEe try and get Dr Ritu, she is the head of the department and I thought she was excellent.

Hi, I delivered in Al Rahba last April and had a very good experience. Waiting times for ob gyn appointments were not good, but on a par with corniche, but what I was most impressed with was the care for me and baby after delivery. I chose to deliver here after visiting a private hospital for some appointments where the doctor was nice, but has a bit of a reputation for the number of c sections performed. I asked should I open a file at corniche in case of complications and he recommended al Rahba instead, less busy, and they have a well regarded NICU there, so I figured if thats the best place, why wait until something goes wrong and I just transferred my pre natal care to al Rahba and wasn't disappointed. You will almost certainly have a private room (there's 22 beds, 17 private) and th nurses and midwives were excellent and helped us get breastfeeding off to a great start. The hospital was pro natural birth, which I also wanted. The only downside is that you can't guarantee an epidural during delivery unless it's an emergency, as there is not an anaetharist dedicated for maternity (it's a general hospital with a maternity ward), I ended up delivering without one, but hey, I lived to tell the tale and I'd do it all again. If you want any more specific info let me know, but I would definitely recommend a, Rahba and would choose to deliver there again . Ps good luck x

Hi I delivered in April last year, not a c section though, I was happy with the hospital, i did most of my ante natal there, like other government hospitals admin and waiting is a bit of a mare but overall I felt the care was excellent, especially after care and breast feeding support. One of the major plus points is you get your own room , pretty much guaranteed unless they are mega busy and you are mega unlucky. Thought the midwives were fab. If I have another, I'd go back to Al Rahba, still taking mini me there for vaccinations etc with the paediatricians. H t h Jackie

Oh dear I read this and had a flashback to my youth! I have a bit of a strange idea, but if my memory serves me correctly it worked on me (for a while at least). You say she is quite creative, why not give her a project, to redesign her room. It needn't be "grand designs" but a different colour of paint, a new rug and bed sheets or cushions and some coordinating storage boxes may just be enough to spark her interest and motivate her to keep it organised and also promote some pride in her own space. Maybe she could also create a piece of art for her wall or choose some nice photos to put in frames. And aside from the project itself once the room was organised she may be more inclined to keep it that way to show it off to friends.

Thanks so much for the kind offer. If your friend sees them I would take 6 boxes, or more but I think its really unlikely there seems to be a supply issue, my parents have tried a number of pharmacies and I can't get them online. Amazon are selling them for £10 a box, which is super cheeky as they are normally £2.85! I hope they get the supply issues sorted. If your friend does get any I would be so grateful. My parents are coming out at Christmas and will also keep trying and worst case I will get a few from Amazon.. Thanks so much, look forward to hearing....

This happened to me too when I was pregnant, still not 100% better, but I found that using a build up remover shampoo helped - I used the Boots Expert one, about 20dhs, and just used a little conditioner on the ends (careful not to get on the scalp). This made a big difference for me, I tried every greasy hair shampoo on the market but none did as good a job as the build up remover one.

I had 2 sweeps - one at 40 weeks, one at 40 + 2, there was no effect and whilst it was uncomfortable, I didn't find it very painful, it was also very quick. There was a little spotting afterwards but nothing of any significance. These were with 2 different doctors. I have since realised that these were indeed quite tame, as just prior to being induced I was given a "sweep" by another doctor - where she helped me from 1.5cm to 3cm dilated within a few seconds. Quite eye watering to say the least!!!!

I would ask some hypothetical questions to give you more of an insight into her personality and experience, and also some which just ask for her opinion, as these are not typical straightforward interview questions you might find she will open up a little more and you will get to see the real person and not just the interview persona (which, let's face it, we all do!) Steer clear of questions which require a Yes / No answer : * What did you like most about your last job and why? * What did you least enjoy and why? * Tell me about your family.. * What would you do if : you broke a vase, the electricity went off, the baby wouldn't stop crying, a workman came to the door etc etc etc....... * How do you spend your free time? * Do you have any questions for us? I always say in interviews this is a 2 way thing, we need to check that you are suitable for us and you need to check that you think we are what you are looking for, so don't be afraid to ask any questions, even if you think they seem silly, we both need to make a decision if this is right or not... Oh, and good luck !

I remember when I re-registered my car last year I had one fine and when I was paying to re-register the lady was able to show me the picture there and then on her screen. I think Muroor is your best bet.

I dont understand why people often say, or write in emails "following our telephonic conversation". :\:

I know they were advertising the inclusive ticket and hotel packages, normally only one night with gold circle tickets, but for Stevie Wonder I think it was 2 nights only, but still works out a good deal. Best thing to do is call round the hotels, there's the following on Yas: Yas Rotana Crowne Plaza Radisson Blu Staybridge Suites Park Inn Centro The intercon is the opposite end of AD, although you probably wont have too many traffic problems getting there, it can still be quite busy getting out of concerts on Yas, but once you are out and on the main highway would only tak you about 25 - 30 mins to get there. Good luck edited by jackieq513 on 10/03/2011

Hi Just a quickie, regarding Daman, I have had to make a few claims as my doctor at the time was not on their network, I did it online and found it really easy. There is an option for cheque delivery (they send it by Aramex) or direct bank transfer (I haven't tried this yet). Basically you jsut input the details and then send them scans of any relevant documents, eg lab reports, claim form filled out by doctor etc etc. Hope this helps - I too had a nightmare claiming in the normal manner, seemed to take forever, but with this I have been paid on most occassions within 2 weeks of submitting and you can check the progress online.
