Thank you girls for your quick responses. Problem solved - well almost! DH removed the back of the washing machine this morning and discovererd that a rodent(s) has gnawed through the drum drain hosepipe - accessing it via the floor drain under the washing machine. Yes, the little darling(s) managed to push up the drain cover - and yes we now have traps in place - though no evidence that they are residing in the utility room! We now need to find a Whirlpool spare parts provider in Dubai. Any ideas?

Several of my friends have used DASA to move back to Oz and UK and were extremely happy with the service. I actually saw DASA pack up two lots of my neighbours returning to Oz and the packing crew etc were very polite and well presented.

SkyKitty, Im with you all the way. My size hasn't really changed over the years - if my clothes start feeling uncomfortable to wear I put on the brakes and skip on the fizzy beverages and the calorie loaded meals for a week . I find the sizes really do vary between stores - Im a Size 12 who has got into an M and S 10 comfortablly but have had to resort to a 16 when shopping elsewhere when something has caught my eye !

And another thought - you may want to consider popping along to the EW Education Fair at the Grand Millenium Hotel on (?) 13 March and meet / chat with reps from various schools etc then.

I also splash some balsamic vinegar over the salmon fillets - plus salt and pepper - and microwave for a few minutes - 4-5 minutes is usually enough for 2 fillets, but depends on how thick they are. Served up with a baked potato, salad or veggies its a great quick meal.

Some work colleagues are driving to Muscat via Hatta for Xmas and are worried about the border crossing and the remaining drive. Does anyone have an Idiot's Guide to crossing the border at Hatta alongwith directions, timings etc that will calm them down a bit. Many thanks in advance.

DASA International Movers moved two of my neighbours last year to Australia and UK and both were very complimentary about the service. I remember checking their website (www. dasadxb.com - Tel 04 3344545) at the time and they are FIDI FAIM certified and noting its a family run business. The company has also been recommended on EW.

A visiting friend bought a lovely soft embroidered one in Persepolis in Karama last week for c AED30. If you haven't been there before, its a one stop shop for touristy bits and pieces. Its on the same side of the street as the fish market and has a big red sign on the shop front .

I have a friend (British national) who recently started a new job in Oman. I would welcome some advice on how the visa system works if he wants to visit us in Dubai. If he has an Omani residence visa (Im not sure if he has one yet or not) does he need a visa to visit the UAE? If so, can visas be obtained at the border if he comes in via Hatta or RAK ? Thankyou.

Depends what you are looking for but I got my dog a lovely mustard coloured collar with little metal doggies on it from DAISO - the Japanese store - at Oasis Mall. It cost me a fortune - AED 7 - but 8 months down the line its still in one piece !!!! They had some in the same design in red and black. They also stocked a selection of leashes.

I think the company merge has happened very recently. Id also check if its still possible for you to go to Milton Keynes in person cos I have a feeling the system has changed at that end. Im sure ARGENTUM could confirm this for you.

I returned to UK earlier this year for a few days and had to get some documents attested. I didnt have the time to do all the running around to Milton Keynes etc so got a company called JESTOM EXPRESS to do it for me. I posted them my docs on the Monday and had them delivered to me by Friday lunchtime. I had an email from the company earlier this week telling me they'd merged with a legal firm and are now called ARGENTUM. Drop an email to [email protected]. The whole process was very efficient and they even requested copies of the documents in advance to check that they could carry out the attestation process for me.

There's a great shop in Karama, Petropolis, which has a huge selection of pashminas - and lots of other stuff - ranging in quality from the plain coloured ones to the top quality beautifully embroidered ones. Price depends on what you are looking for. The guy who runs it loves to barter so if you're planning on getting 6, knock at least 50% off what he's asking for one and take it from there. Im sure you'll leave with a smile on your face. Its a long time since I bought pashminas so can't help you on the price.
