Yes Edna. that looks like it, I wasnt thinking of trying to convince them it was the same fish I just thought replacing it like for like was the right thing to do (I can't imagine there was a huge emotional bond between the beast and its owners). I have just been out and bought them some Quality Street chocolates by way of compensation for their loss, I know what I would rather have!! If you're right Asti and fish do suffer stress then that could explain the untimely death as we have a 10 month old with a very high pitched squeal she has learned from Nursery, I'll put that forward as an explanation on their return from the UK. Thanks for your advice

Perfect end to the perfect week. The fish we were babysitting for my Husbands boss has kicked the bucket. What we did wrong I don't know, went into the kitchen yesterday afternoon and there was no sign of life. My Husband tried resusitating the ugly slimey thing to no avail. My question is, is there any pet shops in any of the Malls, this is a funny looking fish, its a black goldfish with bulbous eye sockets and a fan tail probably about 3 inch long. I have never seen a fish like it but maybe thats how they all are over here? Any tips on where to get a replacement would be appreciated (hopefully his Girlfriend doesnt read this site)

I am about to do the same thing, I think using a parents address will be ok, only thing that worries me is if they notice the envelope has a foreign stamp on, as only UK residents are meant to apply

Thanks for taking the time to respond, I am going to send all docs to the DVLA and wait for them to be returned to my parents address then have them couriered over. In the meantime DD will have to say bye-bye (her only vocab) to nursery. We'll get a baby-sitting service from an agency while I am at work, I'll taxi it across the road from The Greens to Knowledge village where I work (was detouring via Al Wasl to Nursery 70 Dhs per day for the 2 round trips). What a palava though, just when we'd started to feel settled. Hopefully the new boss will be understanding that i'll be car-less for a month or 2

AS you always seem to have the good suggestions, your advice is always appreciated Yes I have a business card from a private taxi I used once, however I am sure I read on here somewhere that these private hire outfits are illegal to use as they are not on your sponsorship, and as they are not resitered as RTA their passengers are uninsured? Also I only work 4 hours per day and the cost of summercampNursery + driver will more than likely out-weigh my basic salary. I am going to start welling up soon as everytime I think I have hit on a solution its either illegal or extortionate. I really wish I had sorted out my paperwork before moving here in January but with a New-born, the Snow, Hormones, emigrating etc so many important things were overlooked :-(

Oh Dear, I have just checked off the back of your suggestion lo and behold it expired in March this year I had no idea they only last 10 years, I feel bad now for suggesting the RTA workers took a dislike to me. This creates a whole host of new issues; 1. License is in Maiden Name, wrong address, out of date 2. Turnaround time of getting the license back affecting new job 3. cabs scare the h*ll out of me, driver today had both hands on wheel 10% of journey max. Just looking into the part time maid idea (bl00dy expensive) so that I can keep my job and not risk my little girls life in a taxi with no car seat to get to Nursery - Why is nothing easy? Check the date on the front of your UK card - a UK licence only lasts 10 years and then the photo needs renewed (this has to be done in UK I beleive). Yes actually do check this, this happened to my DH a few months ago when he was applying for his motorbike license, I personally have never been so relived. I am going home tomorrow to get my sorted out (re-newed). Like you say, it should be very simple other than the above, but I seem to remember somebody with a RAK license had to go there to apply for it.

Its a long shot , bus has anyone got a blank D1 form lying around? Basically I need to tranfer my UK license to a UAE one now my Spouse Visa has come through but I unfortunately my UK license is in my Maiden name whereas all my other docs are in my married name. I am going to try my luck and see if they will process it anyway by me showing the marriage certificate but something tells me it wont be that easy.

Thanks Plum2, Yes I gained a collossal amount during pregnancy, had zero control of my cravings as I was (stupidly) under the impression that the weight would just 'fall off' straight after. I lost the first 10kgs by the end dec by just eating slightly less, and the water retention faded away, then moved to Dubai and had no friends and family distractions and knuckled down to diet and excersize but it took 5 months to lose the next 9kgs, just not quick enough - then I saw the threads on here and how well the ladies were doing and made a pact with myself that I would live and breath Dukan untill I reached my true weight 63Kg. When the end is so close I am determined not to accept a 'half victory' must get to my true weight, I am constantly dreaming about my celebration meal cant decide between a big dirty Pizza or fish and chips (once back in UK for summer). Marble slab do let you take away the frozen yoghurt, I generally get a pint size tub, chocolate & vanilla mixed. They deliver too usually (though not at the greens where I am unfortunately) I have it after my evening meal and it really off-sets the boredom. Another thing, I have ALWAYS had cellulite, even at my slimmest. I read in the book that it is the only diet that gets rid of it, to be honest I thought that was just a bit of token bullsh*t, however it has pretty much disappeared from my thighs and for the first time ever I can wear shorts!

Thanks Plum2 & Mishmash. I have been very rigid, except for 2 occasions in 6 weeks, one was my birthday when I lined my stomach with a pizza before hitting the tiles and the second was 2 G&T's at a dinner party. Neither of which did much damage to the scales but I cant help but wonder if I would have lost even more by being 100% rigid. You will find that your appetite dimishes very soon, today I have had oatbran porrige (with coco powder) Some Chicken Curry (Chicken with masala spice, red pepper and tin tomato) and for dinner I'll have Tuna and Egg salad with balsamic. Today is a PV day and I am alternating untill I shft this last 4 pounds! It really does work and buying a size 10 pair of Skinnys gives me great pleasure - BTW I had 4.5 stone baby weight to lose back in November about 28Kg, I really wish I had discovered this diet back then instead of slogging it out in the gym and eating sparrow portions! Top tips for cruise phase are; Marble Slab non-fat frozen yoghurt Sugar free Cola Cubes (circular tin in Choitrams sweetie ailse) Onken Vanilla Yoghurt Coke Zero Also when eating out go to PAUL (JBR, Mercato etc) they do salads which are great for PV days, good luck and if you need any advice/support I have read the book 10 times over! x edited by jenna7jenna on 19/06/2011

Mishmash I was 71.3kg on the 9th May and I am now 64.4kg, should be introducing bread and a few more carbs by 1st July (my target is anything below 63) you'll probably find that you get there a lot quicker than the chart on the Dukan website says, but its nice to have a guideline

Well done you!! When the boredom starts to creep in (which it will) just remember the other phases are waiting for you and it will become so much easier! I am just 2 Kg from my True Weight now (lost 6Kg over the past 5 weeks) and I am so looking forward to my bread and cheese and most of all the Celebration Meals! Best of luck and well done so far! x First week of Dukan completed today. 3 1/2 days of attack, the rest on the alternating PP and PV days. 4kg down and I feel so much better! edited by jenna7jenna on 14/06/2011

Perfect diet for me, I started on 9th May at 71.3 Kg (5ft4 frame) and now weight 66.6 meaning in just over 3 weeks I have lost almost 5 kilos! Even though its too hot to leave the apartment in my pre-pregnancy jeans it doesnt stop me modelling them infront of my bedroom mirror everyday! I have settled into a routine and know from my pattern of weightloss that by 1st July I will be my 'true weight' of just below 63kg, then onto the next phase. Once I am onto that and can eat a few more carbs I will re-start my excercise classes. Downside for me is the tiredness, I have an 8 month old baby and really need my energy stores back but I realise that I will only be feeling this way for another month. Frankly, the pros by far outweigh the cons. Good Luck everyone and hang on in there, I read online that this is the 'Middletons diet of choice' so it must be good!

I know Spain pretty well, I grew up in Gibraltar and sold property on the Costa Del Sol for 4 years. Please be very careful if you are considering buying a new build property. A lot of the developments were given licenses to build which turned out to be illegal and people have lost their homes, there are also a lot of people who bought off plan and the developments werent completed and they are locked into a battle to have their deposits returned. If I was in your position I would fly over, have a good look around different areas, if you find one you like, then look around for 'Se Vende' signs (For Sale) on a fully completed and established community and take it from there - please dont commit to an agency showing you round as beleive me they will steer you into what they want to sell you (they get whacking commissions as there are a lot of desperate sellers over there). Aside from the Property sharks, Spain is a great place to have a second home, Both my family and my In Laws are holidaying together there this July to make it easier for us (Otherwise we'd be travelling from one end of England to the other this summer) Flights are dirt cheap from all UK airports and the weather is so lovely all year round, Good Luck!

Some little things that made life easier on the attack phase for me were; non-fat frozen Yoghurt chocolate flavour from Marble Slab, Packets of Smoked Salmon for Lunch and ready roasted Chicken for evening meal with some onion gravy. Recently I have also started heating skimmed milk and adding Fat free hot chocolate powder which honestly tastes no different to the normal stuff. This diet really is easy once you get used to it. I have lost 4.5 Kg since the 9th May just another 4 to go till true weight edited by jenna7jenna on 31/05/2011

Here's my update, started on Monday at 71.3kg and today I am 69.2kg, thats over 2 kilo in 6 days and Its my time of the month, therefore I wouldnt have expected half that amount. I absolutely love this diet. Today is my first day 'cruising' and to be perfectly honest I could have happily stayed on attack. Yesterday my husband and mum wondered into Marble Slab Creamery and I thought I might crash and burn, then I noticed the Non Fat Iced Yoghurt. AMAZNG it tastes like Mr Whippy especially the chocolate flavour and is Fat free.

I Start today at 71.3 Kg, need to lose my last 6Kg of baby weight (gained 25Kg in total, bl00dy cravings!) Been healthy eating and exersizing for 7 months to get this far but have just hit a plateau so need a good body shock, this has to be it! Kelly, my understanding is that anything on the attack phase list is unlimited in this period, however if you have cholesterol issues then limit your eggs to two a day. Everyone else, please continue to post your losses so far and can someone advise me where to get the 0% Fromage frais (tried Park n Shop & Choits)

If you want to have milk on cereal in the morning you have to measure it otherwise you are officially 'Syn-ing' as you will likely go over 250 ml. So far I lost 3 pounds on the 1st week then this week just one pound, going to re-start my exersizing and hope for a better result next week, need a stone off for July!

If its the Leeds Bradford via Amsterdam connection you should be fine, there's only 1hour 30 between flights (when my dad did it last month) he said it was completely stress free and easy enough. We are hoping to do the same in July with our DD who'll be 9 months by then. x

We did exactly what Sandy dogg suggested below, (in the UK) you need to give 4 weeks notice to the registry office. We had a 30 min ceremony on xmas eve with just my immediate family and DH's best mate as a witness, we'll plan the 'big bash' once I've shed the baby weight. There really is a way round everything. Oh and the whole thing cost less than 3000 AED

Firstly I am insaneley jealous! I can definitely recommend a Hotel that was recommended to me in 2007 and I wouldnt consider staying anywhere else its on Park Avenue so very well situated, have a look http://www.hotelgiraffe.com/ the bagels you get for breakfast regularly crop up in my dreams! Also top tip for entertaining the kids is the Helicopter ride you get down at south street sea port, works out at £35 per person and as your a family you will probably get it to yourselves. Enjoy!

Every skin type has a brand that works for it, I have sensitive/dry skin and use Dermalogica Skin Smoothing cream, very thick and soaks in with no irritation, I also used the exfoliator in the same range for a while but cant remember the name, it was good though!

I am currently staying at the Layia Oak in Tecom - for a month, nice spacious apartments all seems very new, nice pool and gym etc. Big downside however is that they emailed us the day before we flew and said our card hadnt worked and we'd lost our room for the first night (?) after a lot of expensive phone calls they put us in the Layia Plaza near the airport. Turns out they'd lied to us and had over booked as it was New years eve when we were due to check in. Its a shame because had they not done that I would have really recommended this place.

The best gadget I have used is the Polar rs200, its a watch and chest strap combo and when you have finished your workout it sends the info (calories burnt included) to an online calendar. www.polarpersonaltrainer.com. its quite motivational too because I can lookback to say 'June 2007' and see that I was working outr 5 days a week and burning 700-800 calories each time - they are sold in sports shops
