I was pleasantly surprised at the selection at Milk and Honey at the Springs Town Center. I expected prices to be sky high but actually the Almond Milk was cheaper than what I paid at choitrams. Also Change initiative have lots of Schwar baked goods.

Thanks for the suggestion for Emirates British Nursery, I tried the motorcity one, it is full for this term and the one in Mirdiff is a bit far from the Lakes where we plan to live

Thanks, she turns 5 in October and is currently in FS1 in Al Ain. As the school she is booked in for can't take her till september I need a nursery place for this term. Though many say they go up to 4 years the few I have spoken to say she is too old and 48 months is the max. Thanks for the suggestions though I will check them out

Thank you both for your replies. MKZ your story pretty much echoes mine, she had the celiac blood test a few months ago, the blood test was particularly traumatic as she is so skinny and small and they just couldn't get any blood, the nurses took a long time and she was really distressed. Thankfully the result was negative. She had Salmonella poisoning when she was 2 and a half which was very serious at the time and she lost a lot of weight, maybe thats connected too. Either way I think we will bring her down to Dubai, please could you advise on which gastroenteroligist you went to? Thanks again

My 4 year old daughter still has the sticking out 'toddler tummy', I am concerned that the other children we know of a similar age don't have this. It definitely sticks out more after eating and is very hard to touch. The school nurse says it is gas, I have taken her to a Paediatrician here in Al Ain but she just sort of dismissed it as nothing. Has anyone else experience of this? She completely refuses fruit and vegetables. I am not sure if this is connected. Any advice appreciated

I have done both and successfully lost weight with each of them. I would be more inclined to do the Dukan next time as the atkins gets boring too quickly and makes you smell of meat. However you do lose weight very quickly The Dukan seems to be much gentler on your system and easier to convert back to a normal way of eating, takes some planning but so worth it

Hi there just thought I would let you know that I saw two cats (at different times) by the big lake in the middle of The Greens that loosely match the decription, the first one I saw had no collar, looked very well fed, was black with a while tummy and paws. The second one I saw tonight and had a red collar and was black with a white tummy but the white part continued up to its shoulders ( do cats have shoulders?) and was thinner than the 1st cat. I couldnt remember the name Vanilla so didnt call for it, but if you think either description fits I'll happily look out for it again in the morning?

I am in the Greens too and have tried both Hayya Lakes and the Fitness Beat Studio in Tecom. I have to say that Hayya is by FAR the best option. When I was new here I paid upfront for 4 sessions at Fitness Beat where you have to pre book for Body pump, I booked in advance and usually got a call a few hours later saying the class was cancelled as there hadnt been enough interest, it took me 6 weeks to use up my lessons (I wanted to attend 2 per week). The actual instructors were fantastic though but another downside was the floor was always filthy, when I put my hands on the floor to get up after ab work they were so grotty. I switched to the Lakes (no pre booking required) and absolutely love it, also go there for Zumba which is fantastic. Hayya in the Lakes is a 2 min drive from the greens or a 20 min walk. I also found that the fellow guests were much friendlier too at Hayya. Worth noting too both places are the same price. edited by jenna7jenna on 18/01/2012

Sea Bands - They are wristbands primarily used for travel/sea sickness sufferers, I had terrible nausea with my 1st and was compelled to drive long distances daily to visit clients, I tried everything just like you and the only thing that ever helped me was these bands (and constant snacking)

http://www.dreamgenii.com/, I tried 2 or 3 before settling on this one, I was about 6 months pregnant before I discovered this pillow and I really wished I'd got it a few months earlier, it is a J shaped pillow and really made a difference, if you can get hold of one and have it sent over it really will be worth your while.

I have just had my tenancy renewal fee reduced from 1000 dhs to 160 Dhs as I quoted what I read on the Gulf news article. Just call them and say you will discuss with Rera if this fee is actually necessary/compulsory, thats what I said to the agent and I got a text 5 mins later saying 160 Dhs will be fine. Agents dont want Rera on their case but try this on in the hope that tenants arent aware of the law. Stand your ground on this one

NBD is 1000 dhs per annum with a bonus 10,000 skywards on opening, you have to get your salary paid into the account and for that card it needs to be between 20k-50k per month

Such a shame! I have to say though I went two weeks ago and completely fell in love with the place! We got the abra from Al Qasr, had a great table (at 7.30) The duck curry I ordered was far too much and I probably managed to put away 1/3 of it (and I am [i'>NO[/i'> Kate Moss!) As my husband has told them on the phone that it was our anniversary, they presented us with a complimentary chocolate ice cream cake with 'Happy Anniversary' written in chocolate, it was divine. We then took the abra to Bahri Bar for after dinner cocktails to round off the most romantic night we've had in years. We've got visitors next week and were thinking of going again, might re-consider though as it sounds to be as if they are having a busy spell

Your post struck a chord with me Derien as 7 was the age i turned 'bad' I actually stole a gymnastics leotard from a girls bag in the schools changing room. I was never going to get away with it because this particular girl had ALL the coca cola badges for her acheivements whereas I had none :-( I am the eldest of my siblings and I think it was an attention thing, my dad was away for months at a time with the Navy and my mum was over-worked with my younger brothers, she went mental with me for stealing and this confirmed to me I was 'Bad' and I went on to be really naughty at school till I was 10 and went to Boarding School (where I flourished into a happy, bright girl). Looking back I can see that the triggers were there, home life was chaotic and my mum very unhappy and not coping with a 7 YO, 5 YO + Baby. Everyones situation is different, but if my daughter ever starts playing up to similar extremes, i will be doing just what you are now, extra loving attention and speaking to anyone who may be able to shed some light on the causes, best of luck .

I lost about 9kg on this diet, then when I was just short of Consolidation i went to the UK for 3 weeks, I found it hard to stick to the consolidation rules when eating out, visiting friends, staying with family etc, and 3 Kgs crept back. I re-started the dukan on Sunday and already I have lost 2.5kgs!! I am alternating PV &PP after a 3 day attack and have decided to go a little lower than before as my body shape has changed since pregnancy and what was an acceptable weight for my frame before doesnt look so good now so I intend to lose a further 3kg before consolidation. I am a huge Dukan fan, only downside is that I have no energy for Zumba, but once I have made it to consolidation this will change edited by jenna7jenna on 14/10/2011

Yes you can but dont do western union as this is only good for small amounts like 50 -100 GBP, they will do a telegraphic transfer instead 45 Dhs. Make sure you dont just accept the rate on the board though, check XE and push for a rate quoted on there (or as close as you can get) Good Luck

Also dont do the exchange on a Friday the rates are not negotiable. I always check XE.com for what the bank rate is and then try to negotiate as close to that rate as possible, hope this helps

Just go to any of the money exchange places in the malls. Have your bank account number, sort code and Branch address, it usually takes 3 or four days to reach. Always ask the cashier for 'the best possible rate' and he/she should go speak to their manager. The cost is around 45 dhs for making the transfer and is far cheaper than making the transfer through your online banking.. Also take some form of ID. Very easy to do, especially if you return to the same place to make additional transfers as they keep your details on file.

I may be slated for saying this, but I think you are being a bit harsh on the poor baby. Your child is only 5months old, which means they aren't at an age when it's lost to be able to find it and put it back in themselves. But this will pass and soon they'll be able to root around the cot for it themselves. But, you must have introduced a dummy for a reason? 5 months later the poor baby has had it taken away and it doesn't know why. Now of course, you will get through it, being tough, training them to sleep without it etc, but personally speaking I think you shouldn't have taken it away just because you were getting up a lot to put it back in. I know you asked for constructive advice, and I'm sure you won't see it as such, but if you were my friend in real life I would be telling you the same thing. Sometimes giving in on your decision isn't a failure or you making the wrong decision etc. But think why you gave the dummy in the 1st place (probably to help your baby settle) and now in a short space of time you are depriving it of the thing you gave her to settle her in the 1st place. Just my opinion of course, and don't want to offend / upset you. You've given a comforter now, what happens in two months when she's old enough to throw that out of the cot and then is crying 10 times a night for you to pick it up off the floor. As a mother of two, believe me, that could very well happen! Ready for my slating now...... ;) I'd be suprised if anyone slates you pilotsprincess, you've made some valid points. However I don't think OP is being harsh on the poor baby by trying to rectify a situation thats affecting her well being and her babies. The more 'solid' sleep time a baby gets the better it is for his/her development and wellbeing. As long as a baby wakes that regularly it he/she is only getting the lightest version of sleep (there's a name for it REM I think) Now I have stopped my own baby waking up at regular intervals she is feeding better, playing more and a really happy little soul.

Hi, we had a similar situation recently, except my daughter was waking up for feeds constantly, we were giving her milk to get her back to sleep every time she woke, up to 600ml a night! I knew I was going wrong somewhere so bought the Sleep Lady book, Good Night Sleep Tight. Within a week my daughter was sleeping from 7 till 7 and I really feel like a new woman now! The book breaks down into age sections so the solution for my (then) 10 month old would be different for your 5 month old. I got the book from Virgin in Mall of Emirates. Here is the website for you http://www.sleeplady.com/

I was really quite unhappy at first, the stress of all the paperwork, finding somewhere suitable to live, laying out money left, right and centre for items you already have back home, of a better quality too, people pushing in front of you at the supermarket etc etc. But the fact is after a few months all those things are sorted (apart from the queueing thing) and once the stressful stuff is put to bed you'll find friends. I found a website called Dubaimumsclub and there is a meet up for mums in just about every community you can think of, not an organized event like te EW one just a Mum posting to see if theres anyone else in her area kicking about during the day. I made 3 lovely friends and 9 months later we are still meeting regularly even though 3 out of 4 have got jobs now. At first you feel like you're going on a blind date, bit awkward finding things to talk about ( I just went for the shock factor of telling my child birth story). I m really glad I took the plunge and put myself out there like that as girl time is so important. I used to think I was quite glam compared to my fellow villagers in rural devon, since getting to Dubai I feel like I am at rate 0 on the glamour scale!
