The forum may not be for many things but what I find shocking is how abusive people are and EW do not appear to do anything like when people say other people are being bit*hy etc etc and telling people they are bit*hy.it is very lower class. I do not have any issue with the Op text.

Had good friend who lived in the Uk for a few years and learned this type of thing was very common especially on BMW'S and other valuable cars if they were not stolen the badge was.

We all react differently to comments , one person sees nothing wrong with a comment and another does but people jump down one another too easily, we are all guilty. There was a thread the other day started by someone referring to some people asking silly questions on EW and do thing the poster had a point. Some people are very lazy and want to be handed things on a plate and there are many of them in Dubai. Having been an expat for a very long time Ii have come across many women who need a kick in the ass to get them to figure it out for themselves. I am not saying you are like that, but it is odd why one did not ask when in the store but as you have since written your situation it is alot clearer. Maybe don't react so easily yourself and just see you did not give the full picture so it would not be odd for someone to wonder why couldn't the person ask when actually in the store. Now make yourself a cup of tea and get some sleep if you can get the children to sleep. Get well soon. Sounds as if the problem is your all unwell and its all too much . Not easy with small children, hope you feel better soon. Thanks for the sentiment. I didn't really have a problem until you attacked me for nothing!! Please think next time before you judge someone.

Please don't take it out on me if he is not capable. and is putting more pressure on your family situation When you are better start to train him, we all have had to train our own . Get better soon. So you are new to the supermarket shopping of Dubai I gather from your text as is different from your home country. Maybe it would help if you tried to do the shopping at a less stressful time, maybe you could go alone and leave children with your husband. Yes I do also have the gift of logic, and have thought of that!! But it's not gona happen as hubby is totally incapable and unwilling to care for them while I do the shopping.

How dare you judge me, you have no idea about the life I live!! Generally change bottle 6 - 7 times a year. gas is not an expensive item around 100 dhs a bottle. You need to pay for bottles when starting out, best to have 2. edited by jewelsmiddle on 10/05/2011

Exile you must be new to supermarket shopping in the world. Would it not be easier to ask the people who work in the store while you are there ? Customers services would also help. thats a laugh and a half...customer services? ask someone? if they know where their elbows are at any given minute I would be surprised. They're with the mops and dish brushes and brooms etc in C4 I cant seem to find them anywhere!! Have looked in Carrefour and Geant and had no luck. Am I looking in the wrong aisle? Lol!! Yes, they wouldn't know, even if I had the time to ask!! I thought more logically, they'd be located with the washing up liquid or with the sponges, but no, it seems more 'logical' to be with the mops!! Thanks ladies!!!

Do you need help when you do shopping ? Can you manage bags on your own. Most grocery stores will have people at the check out who can help you and take bags to the car. Leave children at home with the maid. Poor thing she must be struggling. If this is what would have put you off employing her, you must be quite intolerant. Her last family may not have taken her to the shops. AIs it wrong to be annoyed that my maid get sick even driving to carrefour to go shopping. She has been sick, both going and coming back today :-(. I've only just finished the sponsorship process and her last family never mentioned it. Seems like every time we go out she throws up. I realise it must horrid for her, but I might of thought again about hiring her if I known she couldn't travel anywhere!

Are your expectations too high ? Salary is not high that is why it is more affordable in the middle east. You need to train and retrain maids to how you need things done. I've been looking on and off for a while now and it seems so hard to find a good, honest, reliable English speaking housemaid! What am I doing wrong? Do you know anyone good who is looking?

Yes the burden would be too much and this is how it was with my daughter helping others as a teen but did not always understand sometimes better to help others indirectly by telling responsible adults. I worried too oftern and tried to explain it to my teen as it was too much responsibility but to be there to help but adults need to care for her friends. You may have stuffed up as you put it in one area but not in the overall situation. We all stuff up/ make mistakes do and say things might have been better left of done differently, you were constructive and caring keep that in your mind. Please do not beat yourself up any more, love and time will help heal yourself and your daughter just give her space. I have to be honest, Jewelsmiddle, I stuffed up. I should have informed my child what I was doing before I did it. I understand her disgust with me. My only reason for not telling her was that I didn't want an argument before doing what I knew I had to do, morally. She knows I had to do it, too, but is very hurt because I didn't trust her to accept I was doing the right thing. She also thought she could help by herself, but I am still sure it was too much of a burden for her, and her friend needs immediate help from trained adults.

I hope your daughter will in time see the wisdom in your actions and I understand this must be very tough for you and your teenager. I recall my battles with my oldest daughter and it is only now 10 + years later I know that she knows I was doing the right thing when she was a teen but gosh was it and has it been tough. Worth it in the end though ! It is good to know there are people out there such as you who will care enough and take action . Don't let it stop you doing the right thing in the future. Good Luck with your daughter.

If the maid is looking after 3 children and doing housework, I would fear no job would be well done as expectations may be too high by employer. If you bring someone who has not lived and worked in M E with expat families their knowledge and experience will be less. Like any jobseeker, she would weight her responsibilities to her remuneration. Location is also important due to travel cost factor. It's not impossible, of course, to hire one that is already here but I honestly think you would have better chance hiring one without previous dubai experience. They have less expectation and demand and just want to find a job with a good family ;)

Not surprising, three very young children and housework. You may need to be very clear what is expected of the maid , if she is doing most of the caring for the children and the housework it is a very big task for general salaries offered and families can be very difficult and demanding. Will you be looking after the children ?

How small minded some people are. I do not need to explain what seat I take on a plane when I do travel on the best seats. The more I read EW the more it is evident many of the people are not mature ,well seasoned, experienced expats, too many selfish and small minded people who have possible just lived in one or two countries. If you read the whole thread you will read it also refers to the fact that companies pay for many flights and that may be why prices are higher, but some companies are changing. If companies did not cough up for high prices, people would not necessarily fly EK and EK may reduce prices as they would be forced to. People need to stand up to unnecessary over charging on flights, as they have with accomodation prices in Dubai. [color=#000000'>Oh dear Jewels can you not afford to fly EK anymore? Sounds like serious sour grapes, what does it have to do with you what EK charge? If you can afford it you wouldn't be banging on about it sooooooooo much.[/color'> edited by Miss Pickle on 05/05/2011

Now this is probably the most important text you have written on your thread. It would have been wise to speak with your Dad 1st as he is still alive and maybe you could have avoided all your heart ache. Let the family know including your B I L now you have spoken with Dad and it should ease attitudes. Happy mothers Day. thank you everyone. I talked to my dad about it yesterday. He said the same thing as all of you. Also if he sees nothing wrong with posting the picture either.

I don't know about posting the photo's maybe just copy to your family and close friends. Is he married to your sister ? I do not think people are very understanding of other people. She will learn herself eventually, she is just a few years behind you in the learning curve. The BIL is...ahhem... married to my brother. The SIL is DHs younger sister.

They must be doing something right? Bad service happens with most airlines, just depends on the mood of the person serving you on the day... Turbulence happens to EVERY airline... its impossible for an airline to avoid that... and busing people happens at every airport. All I care about at the end of the day is getting from A to B in one safe piece.

That is even more interesting! .This is an example of where we need easy access to metres to be able to read ourselves. I go around the villa we are in from time to time to spot leaks as we got caught for 5000 a few years ago. Yours must have been going for a long time. Good Luck Well can't not be because the bill of March was only AED 246 for the water, we have been in this house since last december 27, and the bill of Jan was AED156; February AED214; March AED246 and THEN suddenly April AED13192. Don't really know how we could use such a quantity of water even if there is a leakage. Other point I'm waiting also for DEWA to come and check the water meter because EMRIL had cut the water and the water meter is still running!!! So hope they will note this on report for our complain with DEWA. thanks again ladies for your support, fingers crossed now

No fear Shellly by you final comment , you are one to stand up and be counted as you do not need to pay generally when flying unless you choose to. Then when you get benefit such as one does from EK when employed why give a care it is only the customers who purchase expensive tickets that pay for the salaries and give families the jobs. One can tell you are not employed by EK customer service or their P R department ! I swear to g0d I reckon some of you would complain if someone was shoving diamonds up your bum! As for EK busing passengers to the aircraft (ooooh!!) well most airlines do that! Its unavoidable! Its not all about EK profiting from other airlines parking at the aerobridges. Do you not get that no other airline parks at Terminal 3 yet EK still need to bus passengers to the plane!!! Planes park at standoff bays because they might be on the ground for a long while so instead of using valuable space at the aerobridge they park away from the terminal. Another reason for this is MAINTENANCE! EK take their maintenance very seriously (You wanna complain about that too?) and parking on standoff bay as then the aircraft may be worked on. You know, its NOT all about the alighty dollar, shock horror!!! And surprisingly the whole population is not signed into EW! So the few of you who preach about flying other airlines and refusing to fly EK due to price, well, congratulations to you! EK's customers are not all EW'ers! And (shock!!) not all passengers fly out of Dubai. Flights with EK departing from other countries are most often full. So as much as you want to 'vote with your feet' well, goodluck with that! Enjoy extra transits, enjoy getting to your journey in a longer time than with EK. Again, its not all about the dollar! People go for convenience too, you know. Last Christmas my DH and I who, as EK staff, chose to fly with another airline... why? Because we wanted to pay full fare so therefore went with another airline due to price. Did we complain? No, why waste our energy and breath about it. We were happy with our choice. If EK is too expensive for you, fly another airline. But just get over the fact that prices rise. Its life. Rant over! LOL :D edited by jewelsmiddle on 05/05/2011

Yours must have been going for a long time. Good Luck We didn't notice anything because the leakage is located underneath the garage floor, hence invisible. We just learnt the bad new yesterday when DEWA staff come to tell us. Before we had some trouble with the water pump but EMRILL came and fixed it. We had a lot of difficult to join the LL because he is away the country somewhere in India. We have no contact with him and only via the agency. We have been in this house for 5 months and already spent a lot of money to fix a rented house with our money since the LL could't be reached. We will try to see with DEWA what we can do, because the leakage is from outside the house.... hope they will accept to reduce the bill, otherwise I sent it to the LL and go to RERA if needed

My goodness, this is awful but if it is in the property you are in, how is it you did not see it or aware there was a problem ? I am gobsmacked ! thank you so much for your answer. I will put a complain on DEWA. I just called the estate agency and asked them to fix with the LL since they represent the LL when we signed the contract. yes, the leak is from the failed pipeline water I think, that was DEWA said to me and confirmed by EMRILL. DEWA staff came yesterday to tell us that we have a water trouble and shown us the bill. The man said to me that I will have to pay over 13K for this month and normally I only pay an average of EAD300. I called EMRILL and asked them to come and quote. thanks so much again, I'm just really stressed with all that because DH is away on biz trip and can't help except supporting me from far away.

Dubaicat, It would be nice if you are referring to my posting you included the post I had responded to, as otherwise, posters see it in isolation and get a different understanding, therefore misrepresenting. Reference to stand up means, start refusing to pay high prices. Like the housing market . I have copied the original text of Saltire and my response Jewelsmiddle original response to Saltires text. " People just prefer to moan and groan rather than stand up". Saltire text " "It will stop when people start refusing to pay the prices. Unfortunately here when people are getting the flights paid by their companies then the cost is not always taken into consideration but I think even the companies are beginning to sit up and take notice. I know DH's has. :) "" Dubaicat Please add the whole text next time not what you selected as below. Thank you As a rule people moan and groan in Dubai about many things not just flights. Yes, they do. But maybe - and just maybe - there might be another reason why they pay up and go with EK ;). edited by jewelsmiddle on 04/05/2011

As a rule people moan and groan in Dubai about many things not just flights. People just prefer to moan and groan rather than stand up. Not always - there may be other aspects to consider. As I said, other airlines are cheaper for us if we compromise and fly into another airport. I don't mind doing it on the odd occasion, but it is so much easier to fly into Birmingham and only EK go there. So we're kind of stuck if we want that airport.

Did not know there are Zebra crossings like what I have seen in Uk. Some body to teach and tell People to dress better showing less skin and see through clothes, difficult to teach children when adults show so much skin and bad examples. More and better Parking spaces at Schools and teach parents how to park so when others like me are driving who do not have children can do so more easily. parents take over near schools. Someone to teach workers who do tasks in your home to not smell and wash clothes better. Dubai needs: better wages and accommodation for labourers cheaper food prices more stringent laws relating to driving better water supply beter import of fresh food - salads etc more cheap or free activites for children during summer affordable pool beach / clubs that aren't associated with expensive 5* hotels taxi drivers that don't stink and who don't try to kill you tescos / sainsburys or asda cheaper prices relating to clothes more job-share / part time work for mothers discrimination laws relating to sexism, ageism etc in the workplace mother and child parking spaces passing a law that makes it illegal to hawk up a greenie on the street make it a a law that you must stop at a zebra crossing make it illegal for gardners to ride their bicycles, pulling a lawnmower on the wrong side of the road cleaner beaches Not allowing entrance visas to the Wiggles oh the list could go on...
