Hi Maca1981, My 12 weeks scan for soft markers for downs came back normal, but due to my age, 36, I absolutely wanted to have the blood test done, and chose to do it. My doc recommended Verifi, but there are many on the market, and its a simple blood test that can be done as early as 12 weeks. My husband and take the personal opinion that a lifetime of caring for a child with downs would be more costly than paying 5500 for a blood test right now. However, If you would keep your unborn baby no matter what the circumstances are, then yes, you dont need the test. As for the cost, Im absolutely sure there is some form of kick back to the referring doctor, but it must be top of the line genetic research that has developed the test, and from my understanding this testing has only come onto the market 2 years ago. At the end of the day, its always better to have options than have none.

Hi Seekinghelp - I too have heard of this toxoplasmosis, but I dont pay too much attention as I still eat salads from restaurants. Obviously I wouldnt eat a salad from a backstreet outlet though. However, I'm more concerned about mayonaise/hollandaise type sauces, mouldy cheeses, and rare/raw meat and seafood. Otherwise I eat pretty much everything else. Unique Me - I'm afraid I havent heard of Dr. Jozsa... best of luck finding out info though! SouthernStar - so happy to hear that everything is going well with LO. Fingers crossed your nausea passes soon though! Maca1981 - I've not actually heard of anyone using the Al Ain Cromwell hospital,. but my database of friends delivering here is limited. Most of the ladies I know here either opted for scheduled C-sections, or they preferred to be closer to home than having to trek to Al Ain when the time came. I think its also important that if you ended up having an emergency C-section, it would be quite a trek for hubby/friends to visit you (but perhaps they have the facility that hubby can stay with you - I dont know). Last year I had a small operation at Medcare in Safa, and hubby was delighted that he could just race home quickly to shower/change as it was such close proximity to where we live.

Hi Ladies, I have been feeling guilty for a while now as I'm normally quite active and have been struggling with work/tiredness to get up and exercising so far with bump. I'm also pretty sure I've put on a bit more weight that I'm supposed to have. I was wondering if any working mums of bumps would be interested in a 6am around Safa Park during the week? Or alternatively, 6-6.30pm? Let me know, maybe we can meet up. Thanks, Jo

Hi EmberElftre, I've just read your message now and Im so so sorry to hear this news. I can only imagine how sad and helpless you are feeling right now, especially after 9 weeks of waiting. Rest assured, although your time might not be now, they do say that your fertility can sometimes increase dramatically right after a miscarriage. So I will be hoping and praying that your little lazy bundle is waiting for you just around the corner. Love n prayers xxx

Hi Ladies, how are you all doing? Ive almost made it thru week 12 now and had a scan to check bubs for soft markers for downs, and all looks clear. As my first, it was so amazing to finally see a little one inside, rather than a little bean with a heartbeat which is all ive been able to see until now. Bubs had hands and feet and little fingers. Has anyone started having sleeping problems, other than just being sleepy all the time? A couple of times Ive woken up to go to the bathroom amd had loads of problems getting back to sleep, Im either hungry or my mind switches on. Im also a tummy sleeper and I can feel the days are numbered, and its almost time to get a maternity pillow to wrap myself around. I still cant seem to manage my hunger/fullness. Please tell me Im not alone as sometimes I feel like I should be more along to have these ailments already.

Hi Ladies, Just wanting to say thank you for your input. NP, i hope your Harmony results were good and you no longer need to worry. As for me, Im relieved as we spoke with my insurance company, and they have approved the test on a pay and claim basis, due to age factor. So, Im very pleased and ill be sending off my blood work early next week. I will keep you posted in case someone wishes for advice in the future. Thank you

Hi Gilly3 - so happy to hear that your nausea is subsiding.. definately something to be happy about! So sweet that DH is taking such an interest. I think we should savour this while it lasts after London Chiq's comments ;-) EmberElftree - I know the feeling with Carbs galore and waiting for the green craving to kick in - I sometimes can't stand to look at a salad. Yet other times I'm happy to eat it. I find that sometimes I just have to dive in and it ends up tasting better than I thought. I've recently been mixing up my salad dressings.. I've tried a thai dressing one week and i added vermicelli noodles to my salad, and another week I tried a Nobu lemon dressing on my salad. This week, I've decided to delve into a RICE SALAD.. rice is healthy carbs which will keep me going, but mixed with lots of veges like peas, chopped parsley, avocado, diced capsicum and cucumbers, some pasteurised feta.... add some lemon juice and topped on some lettuce leaves, I think this might do the trick. Or, you could try using Quinoa instead of rice. I'm going into week 11 now, and I started to feel like my nausea feeling was passing when I was hungry, but it still comes and goes. But this week last week was definately better. I changed my breakfast from oaty-bix to eggs on toast, so maybe a more substantial breakfast helps. And I'm trying to remember to change my snacks to fruit - I read somewhere that fruit was EXCELLENT in pregnancy. The biggest issue I have atm is I've gone from a Camel drinking 2-3L per day to struggling to polish off 1x 1.5L bottle of water each day, and I can feel myself dehydrated. Drinking other substitutes isnt helping ie Ribena (too much sugar), juice (can't drink juice all day), and alot of other drinks are just full of sugar or aspartame. I've been given the go ahead to start exercising again from Doc, so Im hoping a morning walk around Safa Park ought to kick start my thirst for water again.. fingers crossed. I'll also try some lemon in my water, but that can make my mouth feel a bit too furry after a while. Best of luck to all of you as we are nearing the 12 week finishing line!

Also in the interest of saving yourself time, as I know I certainly dont have time to get to Deira spice souq, you could buy it from your local supermarket. You just need to ask for it at the counter as they keep it there. I've bought saffron in Australia and its DARN expensive for an teeny eeny box that goes no where. You literally have to savour each strand you get. For the same cost your friend is still going to get ALOT more bang for her buck, especially if she's using it alot. And of course, if she wants to shell out more you can buy her a bundle :-) Best of luck!!

Hi Bella UK, Thank you for sharing with me. I hope you received the result you were after in the Panorama test, and yes Amnio does carry more risks, but is apparently far more accurate. I personally think there is no real reason for me to do the test, a friend of mine here said i'm not really considered high risk at 36-37, but better to know now when I can do something about it and have less regret in the future. After all, its just a little blood test. If you dont mind me asking, how much was your Panorama test? Verifi is AED5500, and not covered by insurance.

Hi Ladies, Thank you so much Ladies! Big Blue, if i can work out how to PM you, I will send you my email address. I'm in the Safa area. Btw, does the book come with the CDs etc as well? I met a lovely doula when I was in Australia last and she will coach the hypnobirthing with me. I have an Ina May book which sounds quite like the one you are referring to. I've also watched one of her recent documentaries, really quite an astounding woman. I have a friend coming from the UK this week so I'll order the other ones online. Kino was out of all the books I mentioned :-(

Im not having trouble getting to sleep, but I am having trouble early early in the morning. I wake up bloated and uncomfortable between 4-5am, go to the bathroom, and its getting back to sleep thats the issue. My hunger is beyond belief... Im so ravenous morning noon and night. I cant remember ever eating so much, esp given im not exercising (was told to not exercise for a while by doc, threatened miscarriage a few weeks ago). I wouldnt mind if it was going directly to my tummy, but im just getting fat all over excluding my tummy. Experiemced mothers.... Does this hunger die down in 2nd tri?

Hi Kamooushka, I read your post earlier just wanted to say that a number of my friends have delivered at either American or City Hospital, and all have had very positive experiences. As for Medcare Hospital, I had an emergency surgery there in October, but my doctor of 2 years was my surgeon (i also live very nearby) so I was comfortable with the decision. The hospital is certainly not for everyone but they are well priced for many and their maternity ward was very busy. I will say however, that I was pleasantly surprised by the care from the nurses there. However, like yourself, Ideally i will go home to deliver, but will also make sure Im prepared with a backup plan here locally. Id prefer to be around my family in australia for the birth. Although that then comes with the risk that DH may miss the event if Im early/late. Explore your options down the track, as u never know the path you need to take. Exciting times ahead!!!

Hi EmberElftree, congrats on making it thus far! Seeing the tiny little heartbeat is quite astounding, esp given its still so small!!! Im going back next week for my week 9 test so fingers crossed my little bean is still pumping away madly! Gilly3, isnt it so strange the desire for carbs?? The guys in my office must be unconsciously wondering whats happened to me, what was once chicken and salads has turned into carb sensation. Today I felt as though I was grazing all day but I jut couldn't feel full, its like i need proper food at lunh. I went into the kitchen and the office cleaner was eating those 2 minute Koka type noodles, the smell was heaven and tonight i inhaled 2 cups of koka noodles, and I still felt hungry as its quite "light". Im channeling pad thai for dinner tomorrow night ;) Does anyone else get uncomfortable at night because of digestion issues?? Im so concerned as if im sleepless now Id hate to think how Ill be after 7-8-9 months!! I passed out early tonight, woke up an hour or so later and im just uncomfortable with my stomach, feels gassy and full, like i need to sit up and let my body digest for a while. Sorry about the whining, its late and im tired. Loads of baby blessings to you all xoxo

Hi ladies... Great to hear positive stories from you all. I have to say the waiting game is killing me also. Im now 8 weeks, no morning sickness (thank god), but a general queasiness if i get hungry. I presume thats normal. What are your experiences?. Ive also been eating more carbs than usual... Is anyone else feeling themselves grow out of their clothes so soon? I also feel my digestion is quite bad now, i often go to bed very uncomfortable and sleep restless if ive eaten too late. Another week til im back at the dr's to make sure little bean is ok, strange that I dont "feel" pregnant. Somehow I imagined it being different. I just feel super podgy :( Loads of healthy happy baby dust to you all xxx

Hi Jennifer-bey, I too am pregnant, must be around 6 weeks now. But its my first. I had a chemical pregnancy last June, but so far the baby is hanging on. I had a scare last weekend as I bled a bit, but the next day I saw my OB and we did a scan and it showed a heartbeat, which is a really good sign apparently. I've been asked to "rest" for the next two weeks before we do another scan to make sure everything is ok. I have a very intense stressful job so I only get to rest when I finally get home, which doesnt feel like long enough. I've started to get a slightly sick/weak feeling when I havent eaten for a while... and I'm losing a bit of my appetite which counter-acts the feeling of being sick/weak when hungry. Oh well... i'm trying to take each day as it comes. Any advice given its your third?

Id love to know the answer to this query. I have teeny tiny little grey flies that love my shower walls. Thankfully they are no where else in the house, but I would like to know how to get rid of them. If drains are the source... what do we need to do? Funnily enough, I live in a 1.5yr old apartment and I imagine pipes are used fairly extensively.

I recently did LOADS of research on juicing, and it really depends what you plan on Juicing. Are you juicing hard fruits or are you planning to add big leaves ie spinach, kale etc. I ended up making a larger purchase for a more "cold press" juicer vs centrifugal juicer. Centrifugal are the juicers you see in all the dept stores. It will take a whole apple and turn it into frothy airy juice. Mine presses the juice out of the fruit/veg/leaf and it not only means the nutrients last longer, but its a much nicer juice and more bang for your buck (particularly if you are juicing with organic produce). Mine is Horum, its exp at a hefty 1500 starting price, but if I have to wake up and listen to a centrifugal juicer taking off in my kitchen, Id rather not juice at all. Mine quietly hums away. The guy will deliver the juicer to your door. Aldro Trading 0503756143 Happy Juicing!

I was admitted into Medcare Hospital in an emergency. I live near Safa Park so it was the closest hospital and it was covered by my husband's medical insurance. Although it was nothing to do with a stroke etc, I can say that the care I received from the nurses was exceptional. I have no complaints whatsoever. I'm Australian and I think if I was to go back to Australia for some form of treatment, I have a funny feeling the nurses there would not be as kind or caring as the treatment I received.

I can't advise you on where is best for Maternity, but i have heard that Medcare near Safa Park is big on maternity. I recently had was taken to hospital for an emergency ooeration, and spent several nights at Medcare, funnily enough, in the Maternity wing as there were no other rooms available. I can vouch that there care received by the nurses was exceptional. It exceeded my expectation.

If last year is anything to go by, The One went on sale around Christmas or just before New Year. I remember this specifically as last year my husband and I were waiting for a table to go on sale, and we expected their sale to start around 2 January, as thats when DSF starts. But, we went in a day or so before NYE and the sale had already started and the last table was already sold. I hope you dont miss out like we did! If you have your eye on something, perhaps ask them what the inventory is before leaving it to the sale!

I saw your post this morning and called Xpress maids immediately as my maid left me last week and my house looks like a tip (or at least I think that anyway, its not really that bad). Xpress maids had someone come out to me within an hour. I live in Safa 1. So far so good and the rate is very good as another co quoted me AED45/hr because I live in Safa and across the road is cheaper. Go figure.

You could also try craft land in Town Centre mall next to Mercato. Otherwise, you could try a little shop in Satwa that sells little crafty items (probably a lot cheaper), such as ribbons, pins, zips, crystals, buttons etc etc. its near deepa's tailors. If you can't find it, the fabric store ppl cal point you in the right direction.

I recently went to Adib at Dream Girl Tailor in Mina Bazaar (Mina Bazaar is for Indian/Pakistani style. Satwa is for Western style). I gave him a silk unstitched fabric pack from Sana Safinaz and he did a beautiful job. I told him that it must be Pakistani style as the cut is so important, but to be sure as it was my first pakistani style top with him, I did cheat by giving him another khamiz to copy the style. But, ultimately I was very impressed with his work.

In my case, it would be done to check out my ovaries, remove a cyst, check fallopian tubes and also a D&C. Also, I would be curious to know if you managed to get pregnant shortly afterwards? Any feedback would be appreciated!

I totally agree on comments re: the new plastic bottles by masafi, really cheap thin plastic, spills all over the place the moment you open it, and down yourself if you put the bottle to your mouth and accidentally squeeze too much, and the lid is so thin making it twice as difficult to open. My mum was visiting from Australia, and she has arthiritis in her hands, and I had to open every bottle for her. For the first time in 7 years, I've shifted to Arwa. A shame. Does anyone know if Arwa bottles are PBA free or not?

Hi there, Id LOVE to see how you have set up your patio to grow all these lovely vegetables! I'm soooo envious! Last year I made an effort to grow the difficult chilli, the Habanero. I was told that out of 3 seeds, maybe only one would grow. Well, my homemade germination unit clearly thrived and I ended up with nearly 30 plants. I ended up moving house where I had an outdoor balcony, and started to get them used to the outdoor heat (they were previously indoors at my apartment). Unfortunately though, to my dismay, they caught some kind of aphid which was white and black. I tried to get rid of them, over and over, but they they kept coming back. I ended up having to get rid of them, which was SUCH a shame as the chillis from them were MIND BLASTING!!! hahahaa. I havent had the heart to get back to building a little vege garden yet as its just too hot outside. Id love to hear what you recommend, but I live of al wasl road and think its too hot and windy. :-(

Hi Little Pink ***, Im really truely sorry to hear your experience, but Unfortunately this scam has been going on for quite some time. My husband had the exact same experience with his flat in executive towers 2 years ago. When my husband went to the police, apparently these same people had done the same thing to at least a hundred other people. My husband got less than 6 months rental money all up. Its really quite devastating when money is not growing on trees here and we have mortgages to pay. We are currently trying to re-lease the flat where naturally now, im making it strictly one cheque, and Im also writing additional clauses to be signed, such as, the tenant cannot sublease the flat and for single family use only by the tenant holder. Its still not a whole heap of surity, but its all we can do. I wish you the best recovering some money back!

I live in the compound of Pantry Cafe. Their service has been appauling since the start and really no signs of improvement. Its also quite pricey. I will no longer go there as I find it soooo frustrating. From asking to be served, to asking for cutlery and watch the staff aimlessly roam to find it, to getting orders ontime... there is ALWAYS something that upsets me. Not to mention that I dont find their menu particularly appealing. Ive had many meals that were not right. Tasteless risotto, overcheesed and mayo'd hot dogs, tiny salads... I simply gave up! But, like Lisa20 mentioned, I've heard that Book Munch has great food and a lovely environment. But I'm yet to try it out. Has anyone else been to book munch to report ???

Hiya, I used the Housekeeping Co for about 6 months. I found them to be quite good and thorough, however, you get what you pay for and they were quite expensive (or I thought so at least) at 40aed/hr, with a minimum of 4 hours. However, if you had any issues about the cleaning, they were prompt in responding and giving attention to the matter. I stopped using them as they were quite inflexible with the minimum 4 hours, and it turned out to be a bit too much for me and my partner at the time as we had a 1 bedroom apartment, and we wanted cleaning 3 times per week. All in all, I still rate them as a good company and the girls are well trained.

The remaining ingredients are also fairly easy to find. You can use sea salt or himalayan salt, anything natural that is not iodised. Please keep me in touch with how you go. Its really important to ease yourself into the fast, and be sure to arrange alot of activities to keep you busy and your mind off food. Saunas, yoga, evening walks etc. Best of luck!!
