I have been booked in for my Nuchal scan at Latifa but they didn't mention the blood test and I know you have the scan done before the test. I will call them again tomorrow but it is such hard work over the phone! I had to persuade the Dr to refer me for the scan so I think that is why she hasn't arranged the bloods too. The FMC is too expensive for us...they quoted me 1550aed and we have no insurance so trying to keep costs down :s

A1984 - just to let you know...Daman said they cover up to 300k aed. i ended up at City Hospital a few days ago after a bleed...so it was pay as you go...yuk! I have to go back to be re-scanned in two weeks but I don't know what to do now....I only have a 50/50 chance of the foetus being viable (hate their terminology) so I don't want to buy insurance because I may not need it shortly! Sad but true :( The dr at City was fantastic but he admitted that City's charges were amongst the highest and understood if I went elsewhere... But I feel like he knows me now so I kind of feel like I should go back to him....or do I start a fresh with someone else that I can actually afford!!!!?? If I got a government health card could I just walk into Latifa and tell the, I have been bleeding and they would treat me?? What kind of prices do to pay with a government card?

Oh golly - thanks starsouthern - i'll check it out! A1984 - They quoted 7000 for me, 4500 for hubby and 2100 x 2 kids..that is with the 50aed deductions not the 30aed. The guy said I had to go to the Dubai office in JLT for more details and that it was only an approximate quote until I submitted a medical report from a dr.

Hi Tru Blu....I hope that doesn't mean you are an Everton fan lol Thanks for your comments (on both threads whoops sorry!)...my current insurance company will not insure me for maternity so I got quotes from Daman and ADNIC - ADNIC 4 times the price of Daman with lots of stipulations but then someone on here said a friend of theirs had a really bad experience with Daman! So Daman were ok for your pregnancy and delivery at City? That is what I am hoping for - although Dr Ibrahim has been recommended by a few people. Oh and it was the UAE Plan that Daman quoted me on. edited by johjoh on 14/01/2013

evelyn2000.....Thanks alot...got ure email address...will email you later today. Yes A1984 me too - Daman are far better priced..just worried because I heard a story where they didn't pay out for someone's delivery!!! I am researching Daman and also thinking if to pay direct to City Hospital or Medcare. It is okay paying direct if a straight forward delivery but who knows what will happen??!! I have had two normal deliveries but one child ended up in SCBU so I just don't know what is best!!!

ADNIC, and they are good. Thanks...I tried them and they waned 45K from me!! Daman only 16K! I will go to Daman's Dubai branch and talk to them and see which hospitals I can use with them (only have 2 in mind) or decide if to pay City Hospital direct. Soooo much to think about! Aswell as feeling blooming awful! hahaha x

We did. Through Daman. We had to buy the whole policy and it only covered certain hospitals (welcare, international modern and a few others) but the outpatient benefits started immediately and inpatient (birth) were after six months. Thanks everyone! Little Crocodile - I have a quote through Daman but I saw on here that some people have advised against them because they didn't pay out in the end...what was your experience with them like?

I am in the same situation...6 weeks pregnant with 3rd child..no maternity insurance and been here 4 years so would have to pay back in UK (and didn't enjoy my previous experiences there anyway!). I have had a quote from Daman but there seem to be some horrow stories on this forum about them! Who else shall I price up? Can anyone recommend any insurance companies. I have also contacted City Hospital for a quote for maternity packages. TIA

Ooooo lucky you, that is a decent housing allowence :) If the kids are schooling there then it depends what you are looking for....Arabian ranches for a well established community with a wide range of facilities....The Villa for villas with their own pool but a bit of a buliding site and no ammenities...Cedre Villas closest to school but you'd need to see if it was what you are looking for. The houses are nice and there is a new big supermarket there too. I live on the Ranches and the kids go to school down in Oud Metha so we travel 20 mins there and back but we do that because we love the Ranches. My kids have the freedom and safety to roam and cycle around and we have parks, pools, shops, golf club (ALCOHOL AND PORK!) and polo club close by..not to mention Motor City and Sports City on the doorstep. We are also half an hour from anywhere in Dubai. Good luck in your quest....you will get lots of help from the ladies on here ;) Oh and forgot to say Silicon Oasis is only a stones throw away from the Ranches - 10-15mins depending on where in the Ranches. Have you considered DESC for the kids schooling by the way? I am not sure if they have places but it is a very good non-profit school, a lot smaller than Gems WSO edited by johjoh on 29/12/2012

My 8 year old daughter has Molluscum Contagiosum and I know this is untreatable (after seeing various drs and a homeopath) but the skin around it keeps flaring up red, itchy and sore...she also has a really bad rash/dry, irritated, red sore patch around her mouth (unrelated to the Molluscum) that we cannot get rid of - we've had Fucidin and Fucidin H, Oilatum and loads more different moisturisers. So I am thinking the next step is a Dermatologist...can anyone recommend one that is good with kids?

General eyedrops wont hurt the eyes. Stay away from antibiotic ones unless prescribed You can get general saline ones to bathe the eyes with edited by louisedvs on 04/12/2012 I agree Louise - I think post before was stating the obvious a tad.

Thanks for all the replies :) johjoh - oh really, will give it a try was she getting as well as sore eyes? She is literally crying in the middle of the night with it :( Yes she was..and nightime when she was tired was bad too. If you are covered at City Hosp you could go and get he checked out but try eye drops in the meanwhile maybe. Their are loads of different ones in the pharmacy but the pharmacist will point you in the right direction ofcourse..just lubricating drops. Hug to your daughter x

My daughter went through this and turned out she just had dry eyes due to the climate here. Have you tried keeping them moist with eye drops? Could save you a lot of time and money and it is a very common problem here :)

Hi. Two years ago I paid a fortune in the UK for a hypnoband...after lots of research I might add. I chose a highly thought of practitioner and I was very positive about the whole experience. Unfortunately it did not work AT ALL!!! I had some refreshing sleep in my sessions but that was it! Either get a real band or hit the gym! I am overweight and WAS unhappy but after years of fighting the pounds and with many unsuccessful 'trys' I am now going full on with a personal trainer 3 times a week and eating the 'right' things and not eating the 'bad' stuff. The weigh isn't falling off but I am changing shape and I feel fantastic! I just wish I'd done this years ago. I guess you just have to be in the right frame of mind. Good luck x

We flew to KL direct with Emirates as I wanted the Skywards points and I booked seperately online to fly onwards with Malaysia Airlines as it was cheaper to do it on two seperate tickets than doing it on one. I usually book our hotels with www.travelrepublic.com as then the hotels are pre-paid so we don't have to budget or worry when we get to our destination and also their prices are inclusive of taxes etc.

Hi, they have unblocked it and now they have gone I realised that now all the water in the taps are turning brown even though I've tried running it off. Has anyone been told not to put toilet paper down the loo, as I think that is a lie. G. Everywhere I have lived in Dubai its been like that, been told not to put paper down the loo including where I live now. I was told the plumbing and sewerage systems here cannot cope with paper, you see the bins everywhere too in hotels and malls so I think its pretty standard not to. I agree. We always put ours in a bin..unless it is a you know what...too much information hahahaha

I had my girls feet measured in Clarks in the UK and then bought brand new Clarks red leather school shoes for them both on ebay for around £20 a pair. I just hated paying nearly 300aed for those Startrite shoes that fell apart..we must have been through 4 pairs of 'defects.'
