yes [url=http://g.co/maps/6x4zy'>this map[/url'> is correct. if you are coming from jumeirah side just drive down straight to the end towards port rashid. you will see police station towards your right. there is a driving centre too there. hope this helps :) Great to have this confirmed. Brilliant. Thanks!

Thank you, manubhadauria! So lovely of you to share your experience. Port Rashid it is, then. Would you trust [url=http://www.google.com/imgres?q=port+rashid+police&hl=en&biw=1345&bih=598&tbm=isch&tbnid=WpbLgbbsafFPCM:&imgrefurl=http://www.flight.org/blog/2011/03/18/leavingek23/&docid=W7YSp2vLl6C0eM&imgurl=http://www.flight.org/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/RashidPolice.jpg&w=684&h=615&ei=XThvT_zPHOmI0QHZvs35Bg&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=114&vpy=4&dur=137&hovh=213&hovw=237&tx=103&ty=95&sig=102742103932168402867&page=2&tbnh=128&tbnw=144&start=18&ndsp=24&ved=1t:429,r:6,s:18'>this map[/url'>? In other words, is that the exact location? ETA Wonder if [url=http://g.co/maps/kjxj8'>this[/url'> is the right one... All things considered? ;) edited by jophiel on 25/03/2012

If you have the Emirates ID card, take it, then you won't need to do the fingerprints, as the card has them on there. . This is good news, chizz (in Qatar already, I presume). :) Just having difficulties with locating the department and directions, otherwise sounds quite straightforward a process. No one has needed to have this done in 2012?

Dear Ladies, Has anyone of you obtained a police clearance (Certificate of Good Conduct) recently? If you have, 1. Did you go to the [url=http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Dubai+Police+New+Head+Quarters+-+Al+Twar+-+Dubai+-+United+Arab+Emirates&hl=en&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=33.984987,84.726562&oq=dubai+police+new+head+quarters&hq=Dubai+Police+New+Head+Quarters+-&hnear=Al+Twar+1+-+Al+Twar+-+Dubai+-+United+Arab+Emirates&t=m&z=15'> New Headquarters[/url'>, Port Rashid Police Station, or somewhere else? 2. When driving to the Headquarters (?), how was it as to the parking space? 3. When taking taxi or metro, what is the name of the closest metro station and is it at a walking distance? There is [url=http://dubai.ae/en/Lists/HowToGuide/DispForm.aspx?ID=30'>a site[/url'> that covers the basics of the procedure, but locating the department seems difficult. TIA :)

It's absolutely brilliant, if you ask me. Have been using one since 2005. Takes a bit of practice, that's all. Two complaints, though. 1. Why did I not find it earlier? 2. It makes life so comfortable, that one tends to forget one has a period at all.

HTH :) Thanks Jophiel I like the first one! Do you think I could find something similar in MOE or maybe Ibn Batuta? The second option is good - that's what I used to wear in London. :) But when I did a search about tennis in Dubai, it was only the pictures of ladies in skirts! Hi, Div! Bought mine at GoSport/IBM, two-part outfit (Nike skirt, Reebok pants - non-branded options available as well). Feel chaste enough. :)

You're welcome, DC. If you open the second link I gave, tap the signpost of Al Barsha office (southernmost in Dubai area) and on that same page go to the scale on your left for a close-up (+), you'll be able to see where it is exactly. Taking the SZR route, you'll be having the office on your left. You'll need to continue driving further down the road to make a U-turn. I think salsB gave excellent landmarks. Feel so sad and speechless, yet grateful. All I can think of is a teaching I just listened to on my iPod while on treadmill: "the soul does not love, it is love itself it does not exist, it is existence itself it does not know, it is knowledge itself" God bless his family during this trying time. May their strength prevail.

I'm pretty sure there's a stall at Ibn Battuta that sells them. I'm thinking it might be somewhere around Next, or that area. La Cure has its stall in China Court, opposite GoSport, right at the Chinese Junk (the sailing vessel) . Was to iStyle a couple of days ago and on my way out of that court to the next one, stopped at their stall. They have everything, got some mud and bathing salts myself. :) http://www.special-lacure.com/

I was couching on a sofa, studying for a colossal exam for my majors. Wanted to have a break and turned the tv on. It was 4:30 pm, and the flights had hit the towers at 3:46 pm and 4:03 pm respectively. My first thought was that there must be a mistake - a news channel appeared to be showing an action flick... DH called some moments later, as soon as he had heard the news. He had just left his office and was headed to a meeting. Once he joined me, we were quite glued to the tv screen for the rest of the night.

Hi, lovelies! And thank you, fairytale. It's a balancing act with daily exercise. The Labor Day is kicking in with its off-whites. ;) Back to work, that is. Such fond memories from 30-DFC! And how effortless it was, somehow. It can be done, 30 min a day is not that much. So, that could be an ongoing challenge, not just for 30 days, but everyday, exercise for those 30 minutes. Been back to my gym cardio routine (beloved mills!), especially enjoying the stretching part on PowerPlate. Have the recommended Pilates DVD. And a brand new rubber/resistance band. Was experimenting with the band during my last gym workout session. Will continue doing so in one hour - that's when I'll hit the gym again! :) How are you ladies doing at the moment?

Bought my latest on impulse, B1 by Ormonde Jayne. That was back in June. Found a dress at Boutique 1 and as I proceeded to the cash counter, bottles of the aforementioned edP were on display there. Not sure what to think of it... Received compliments at a party some weeks ago, wore it to several other light and fun occasions during this summer of 2011, and, that's what this particular scent will remind me and make me think of, then. :) It seems I have 5 different bottles of designer perfume in my scent cabinet at the moment, some of them gifts. Wear those very sparingly, though - have become quite sensitive, easily developing headaches, and much prefer organic scents and perfumes. But there's this one particular scent from the designer variety that I miss/hold especially fond memories of: Escada FW 98/99 (in a fancy, velvety bottle). Not quite met its match yet.

I'm happy in one respect and that is I've been fasting for Ramadan for 8 years now and this is the first time I've not gained weight but in fact lost weight, so I dont feel I've completely failed!! Lovely to hear, exile! :) Our first and foremost duty should be to keep our souls fit and healthy. All else is temporary. True happiness comes through that proper prioritizing and gives us lasting strength to deal with our material bodies, relations and possessions. Keep us posted as to the developments!

Life in Dubai once the Emirates ID Card starts working as intended: A customer calls Pizza Hut in Dubai --- Customer (fainted) Operator: hello hello, are you still there.... Right on, CT! :) And not only here - eventually, this seems to be the Orwellian future for basically everyone on the planet. It seems that way, anyway. As to the smooth acquisition of Emirates ID cards, no complaints. The process itself was quite straightforward - was back in October 2010, anyway. Our PRO did the preparing/typing part and got us an appointment. Then it was just to visit the closest EIDA office for fingerprints and photos. And, in due course of time, the cards were couriered to us. Our cards are the 3-year ones. Got them as thought the deadline was by the end of 2010 (back then, had been residents for one year). Have used them at several occasions already, as a form of identification. And, the option for adding egate service (in)to it was just brilliant. Made it even more useful. Nevertheless. I get the concern. There's this humongous data collection from citizens going on everywhere. edited by jophiel on 24/08/2011

Hi Jophiel, Your biking sounds fun. Sounds like you're really fit now. I'm finally starting to enjoy going to the gym and feeling my body become more fit. I'm not able to get up there often as I have the girls. I got up there on Thur night. I started with a 5 min warm up on the treadmill then I did a #6 incline for 2 mins and then 30 secs of #7 incline. Did this 4 times. then i got on the stat bike. dide 2 ins of level 5 then 30 secs of level 7. 4 times. then i did a circuit of on the spot jogging, jumping on and off the step, sit-ups(7), crunches(7), leg raises(7), squats (10) and bum lifts(10). all 3 times. was buggered but satisfied after that. cant go up tonight as i hve guests for iftar. trainer coming tomorrow :-) How are you, exile? Sounds like a serious workout, that one of yours! Back to my gym routine. Took it easy today. Miss outdoor sports, but oh well. It was getting chilly, cloudy and rainy up in the North, anyway. Love the sunny Dubai, and in no time we'lll be able to take up the outdoor activities again. That July challenge gave such a boost. Forever grateful. Best of success to your health and fitness ventures! :)

If you don't want to spend big money and want to know about the root of this issue, I can highly reccommend the book You Can Heal Your Life by Louise Hay. Also, Reiki is good to clear out physical and emotional blocks. With you there, natalie8. Louise is great, having helped many. Fat has to do with cushioning ourselves against something - and yes, it is emotional. Yet. Readers should consult their doctor and other qualified health professionals on any matter relating to their health and well-being. The information is intended as a guide only and should not be used as a [b'>substitute[/b'> to seeking professional advice from either your doctor or a registered specialist for yourself or anyone else. Hay's core teaching is, that it all starts with acceptance - loving ourselves as we are. Calling ourselves "fat/mad cows" is not a good way to start, nor is it a very good way to represent womanhood to our daughters (and sons, for that matter). They do not need us to do that. There are enough of sources for that teaching available already. Oh well. Just saying, though. Hating our bodies might work as well. Something that seems to keep an entire industrial ball rolling, judging from shows like "The Biggest Loser" and alike. ;)

Hi Jophiel. congrats on your last day!! I hope you still pop in on me from time to time. I went to the gym tonight (couldn't go yesterday) and did more than I can recall right now!! will write it tomorrow. Thank you! :) Would love to know more about your workouts and having a PT help you with your goals. Had a couple of experiences in the past, quite some time ago, and am planning to continue this fall. Went biking yesterday, pedaling into a heavy headwind. Had a couple of steep uphill climbs. DH was amazed (?!) at how fast and fit I appeared to be (he's biased, I know - be it that he really is a former athlete). I was slightly quicker than him - and I do not admit to being competitive, so that should not be it. ;) The ride was only for 70 min (25 km at moderate speed), but felt really good. Have had no aches or pains afterwards. And, what's more important: got to see lovely pasturing cows and horses. Wind has been too gusty for tennis today, but will try again tom.

Hi there, Ladies! exile: yes, it is lovely here. :) Just watched our hedgehog come for his evening meal in our garden. It got somewhat cooler, but summer's not over yet and it's going to get warm - if not hot - again. Love this season. Went biking today. Feel healthy and happy. Body is more toned now, and I have loads of energy. Will continue having a 3-5 times a week exercise regime. More goal-oriented in September, when I plan to start with a Personal Trainer. Our tennis lessons will continue then, as well. I'm needed elsewhere, so got to go.

Hello, Ladies! That's good news then, fairytale. Regarding the 30-DFC rules, that is. ;) Had an amazing experience swimming in open (potable! crystal clear!) water - under supervision, of course. Swam for 50 minutes and tried to take it easy. Got in to the lake from our boat offshore and swam to an island shore. Not sure of the distance, maybe a mile or so. Freestyle was quickly out of question - wanted to take in the stunning, panoramic landscape as much as possible! Day 26/30: 50 (swimming) Four days to go. Only? But didn't I just get started!? Okay. See you tom! :)

Hi there, Ladies! Wow, how efficiently active you've been. And exile - 1.5 kg lighter! Would like to learn more about that diet of yours. Any tips to share? ;) Yes, we're at our country home away home, way up in the North. And it's lovely! Still, miss Dubai and our lives there - the ways of the human mind... We've been there for 2 years only, but fallen in love with it already. I think it has to do with what fairytale has pointed out elsewhere, referring to Sheik Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan's (philosophical) statement. The real wealth of a country is not its material wealth; it is its people. They are the real strength from which we draw pride and the trees from which we receive shade. It is our firm conviction in this reality that directs us to put all efforts in educating people. That, along with God-consciousness, gets reflected on the culture. In the most positive manner, IMHO. Wish our Western governments would have kept that ideal, as well. Nuff. Had a lazy day yesterday, minding some minor chores, sunbathing a little (to stock up on Vitamin D), dawdling in the garden - but did bike to get the groceries sorted and took a longer route for that. Am planning to be more active today, but let's see. We'll be boating and I'd like to try some long-distance swimming at one point - supervised, of course. It's been a while and my freestyle technique might not be up to it - probably will need to do some drills and have another try in near future… Or, just switch to backstroke, breaststroke and floating every now and then. :) Day 25/30: 30 (biking) Forgot about the muscle work! But was exercising for 30 min… Does it still count?

Hello, Ladies! Must be the combination of fresh air and silence that makes me sleep so soundly - and sleep some more! Much needed, though. Otherwise, I am so exhilarated by this new-found existence: everything is so oxygen-rich and fragrant; the earth in the garden, the meadows, the forest. And the roses! Oh, the roses. Hi there, ladies! ;) fairytale, thank you for your encouragement. Uplifting, as always. Day 23/30: 70+5 (tennis, biking; sprinters abs - in the garden!) Temperature sank from 29 °C to 27 °C during our tennis match, and there was a nice breeze. Still, the sun is rather hot up here in the North, was sweating like a horse and I managed to get my feet shaking - probably a case of electrolyte imbalance. Got to get my sports drinks together. Felt like dying at one point! Back to exercise in moderation for Day 24... If I can hold my horses. :) Feel like a calf released from the stall. Yes, we're right in the middle of a countryside idyll. Feels really good to be out in the nature. Oh, there's only one week left of my challenge! Less for you, fairytale. Will I be the lone poster for the last 2 days? Hope not! Plan to get into pilates after this, now that the video (5 Day Fit Pilates) has arrived... See you tom! :) ETA grrrammar edited by jophiel on 26/07/2011
