Hi I read on Tripadvisor that the Hatta Rock Pools were closed to non GCC residents. I was hoping to take a visitor there this week. Does anyone know if it is possible for tourists to access the rock pools?

Actually I did complain to the store manager when I phoned to ask if installation was included. I tipped the guys because firstly the installation required more work than a standard installation as a dishwasher had not been installed there before. And because these guys are likely to be the ones to bring the rest of my appliances later in the week. So I decided to stay on their good side for now. They won't be getting a tip the next time.

Purple thanks so much for your quick reply. You just saved me a wad of money. I rang the store and you are right installation was free. They did have to fiddle a bit and cut a pipe so I gave them a generous tip instead. Thanks again.

Loads of rugs there and carpet. You would easily find something for your cat tree.

Thanks so much for that. I know DKC well - they were so helpful when we were bringing our cat here. I will see what they can suggest.

Thanks for the directions. I will check them out. October maybe that store in the big villa is And So To Bed? They are on my list to look at the Vi-Spring beds. Glad you are still happy with your bed. It is a time consuming process mattress shopping.

DH's company have insisted on opening the company accounts with HSBC. Despite DH showing them this thread. DH suggested we use them personally too. I told him he can bank with them but I won't - it's not worth all the additional grey hairs I am sure I will gain if I banked with them. So thanks for all the great advice ladies. Even thought DH's company didn't listen to your words of wisdom - I did:)

That would be annoying- you would think they could schedule the reminders for the bills. We haven't chosen our apartment yet so I am not sure who we have to use for the internet. Not sure if you get discounts if you have your phones with the same internet company - but we would rather pay a little extra and go with the better company. If there is a better company for mobiles. In Australia we personally found all the mobile phone companies to have many failings:(

That's okay my DH is a dry land kind of guy- so I won't have to test the coverage at sea. Is there anything you don't like about Du or Etisalat?

Kezzler that is very reassuring. Now to convince DH's company that the "western" banks are not the way to go.

Has anyone else had a problem with a bank 's cards not working in a restaurant where alcohol is served? What a nuisance that would be. That has me leaning towards ENBD - unless they do it too as they are meant to be the same company.

Thanks for all your replies:) I had heard the local banks were much better than the "western" banks. Do ENBD or Emirates Islamic bank give a second debit and credit card to the spouse? I had heard some banks in Dubai don't, which seems crazy. Smileys - what do you have to do to join the priority banking with ENBD?

What a relief for you. Can I ask how much did they charge? I'm looking for a good hairdresser.

I think that will be enough to keep DS happy. That's about all we get in Australia. Would that be the same for Etislaat?

As others have said the dry cleaners have now probably set the stain. A good faux suede fabric like one from Warwick can be cleaned most times just with a white flannel rinsed in warm water and dishwashing detergent. Squeeze the flannel so it is damp and rub the stain away. A stubborn stain may take 2 times. You can then be left with a water mark which can be removed the 3rd time by wiping gently over the whole cushion with a very damp cloth. For more stubborn stains Warwick suggest spraying the stain with hairspray (I know sounds crazy) let it dry and then use the flannel above. The one time I have had a stain that didn't remove using these methods I had a chap come to the house and professionally clean the sofa. My white suede sofas were 10 years old and had no stains - even with a child, cat and dog - oh and a very messy husband lol.

We haven't moved in to our apartment yet so I am not sure if we will have Du or Etislaat yet. But thanks for the information on Du. If we have to go with them then I know what to ask for:)

I like a nice buttery Chardonnay. My hubby would choose a Pinot Gris. I'm afraid I don't know which ones you can get in Dubai. For a Chardonnay I would choose an Australian or Californian. You can taste the sunshine in the wine:).

How are you cooking the chicken? Is it roasted or in a curry or a casserole?

Are there any local TV channels that show the English soccer games? My DS is mad keen on soccer. Or do I need to look at downloading on the internet for him? TIA

Yes it was Aus$45K. I walked around our house and wrote all the items we would need on an Excel spreadsheet. We are not allowed to bring anything but basically photos and clothes. It was a surprising long list but we wanted to be thorough as the HR lady at the company had originally allocated Aus$3700. About 80% of the items came from Ikea. I priced the sofa, dining suite, coffee table and our bedhead from Crate and Barrel. I priced all the electronics from Jackys. Basically that was it and it totaled Aus$45K. Actually I was surprised it was that little when I think of our personal contents insurance value in Australia. You can probably do it cheaper.

Don't know if this will help you but early last year I had to put together a list of what it would cost to set up a 3 bedroom apartment for 2 adults and 1 teenager - right down to the potato peeler. I priced items mostly at Ikea with a few items that I wanted better quality from Crate and Barrel and some similar stores. Anyway the total cost came to AED175000.

Emmsi I was told that Mail doesn't save photos as an attachment but shows them in the body of the email. I think the only way to do it is to use another email programme like Thunderbird.
