For those in the know, can you please give me a ballpark figure of what average salaries for such a position are? My SIl's neighbour (15 years experience within hospital/IT, is hoping to visit and explore into possibilities out here. Any feedback/insight, greatly appreciated. TIA

Funnily enough we where there just yesterday. Some of the 4 bedroom I believe are already occupied. Kitchens are VERY dark and they have used dark wood (weird choice) anyway,,,,it is SUPER noisyif you get one facing either Al Wasl Road or Al Hadiqa Road, traffic flow, horns and fumes were pretty evident, so bear that in mind. The security guard gave us a ballpark figure of around AED170K to AED195K, he said something about AED210 but I think he was saying they were that price to begin with and are now reduced? Pool area/children's play area are rather snug pool size to ratio of units, on the small side, but at least they exist :) Best you go have a look for yourself then decide. IMHO, I'd say don't judge it by its cover & location.

@ Sharon.... would you happen to know if they allow pets? Any idea what a two or a three bedroom is going for? Are they managed by a specific agency or do you deal with landlord directly? TIA

Tara.....I may not be up to date but I do know Dr. Koster had gone on vacation hence me seeing Dr. Oksuz in the interim however, I saw her recently so I gather she's back at the practice. Just call and say it is Koster you want to stick with since she was the original obstetrician you booked with. All the best with forthcoming adventure :)

I saw Dr. Oksuz when Dr. Koster was on leave. She's ok but I prefer Dr. Koster. I have found Dr. Koster to be more informative during the consultation, I seem to go blank and she just makes it easier because she actually goes into detail and explains things! :) So I'm just wondering, did they just change your appointment without consulting you beforehand? Kind of odd :(

Try this and see if you luck out One cup water and three tablespoons of white distilled vinegar (NO soap/detergent), wipe over area with rag. OR Three to four tablespoons of Bicarbonate of soda, add some water to achieve thick paste consistency, use old toothbrush and work it into grout. Other than above, I haven't a clue. Best of luck.

Apologies for hijacking this... IF anyone is looking into buying an iPad Smart cover (can be used for ipad 2 & latest model iPad) I've got a brand new one going at a discounted price. Grey colour, concertina type, it rolls over and acts as a stand AED 189 from Virgin Will sell for AED150 (including screen skin) I ended up with two as of last week & Virgin won't take it back because the box has been opened :( edited by KCQ on 01/04/2012

I'd stay away from [b'>Gil Cargo packers [/b'>even though they have been recommended on here. Unfortunately for us, it was a dreadful experience and they managed to ruin many items. Careless and no respect for our belongings and we still have not been compensated for part of the claim. edited by KCQ on 01/04/2012

Too right we are and having NO JOY from DEWA, what a surprise, NOT. Downsized from a house where our most expensive DEWA bill was just over the AED4K mark inclusive of housing fees and all the new govt. additions. In our new place, we have had bills of AED 5K, 6K & 7.800K Another rep was sent out to READ the meter, for the record, we are not disputing the actual reading rather asking for further investigation to be carried out to determine if the actual meter be faulty, etc., Visit number three to DEWA HO, we're told that having reviewed their records it seems that the new air conditioning system the landlord installed (for the sq footage of this house) is too powerful and this is what is sky rocketing our bills. OK so let's just say for the sake of argument, this is really the case. We have not changed pattern since June.... air con is OFF from 0700 thru to 12 noon on 12 noon to 17.00hrs OFF until 22.30 and on thru the night until 0700. It is only in the last month (Nov.) that we are no longer using the aircon during the day but it is still on at night as I don't feel safe leaving patio doors to bedrooms open. Washing machine is used on average every other three days, dryer just to round off towels and any damp clothes since they are mostly air dried in the sunshine. We're stumped to say the least :((

We lived there many years ago when learning Bahasa Indonesia was really useful. Even though the AWA had a good choice of servants, the language barrier was a toughie. The pollution was rife then and friends of ours who lived there when we did and again recently just left for good a month ago. They did not enjoy the second time around, mainly because they felt the pollution was much worse as was the traffic. If you have young kids my recommendation would be to live as close as possible to the school. As for accommodation, many expats enjoy living in villas and all the baggage that comes with them. It's not for everyone. These days, there are many apartment complexes, you have a choice. Living in an apartment can be less stressful. From our personal experience, Jakarta, the city left very little impression other than noise, pollution and stress however, outwith the city, there are some lovely areas such as bandung, Puncak and Sambolo. Mind you, we're talking many moons ago so these areas might have become very touristy too :( At this time of our lives, we much prefer to be in Dubai, it's always down to your personal choice. Wishing you the best !

ok I must be missing something.... OP's thread is not coming up ... has she removed it? to "fairwater...." just to play the devil's advocate..... I imagine you chose the crockery, i.e. you hand picked it and took it to the cashier counter where they also have the wrapping service counter....I'd think that up to that point you ensured that the pieces you chose were all in good nick. Surely once you left the store, the "transportation" of your purchase was your responsibility... i.e. from shop to car to house,,,,,so if I have understood the episode correctly, when you unpack and you find some of the pieces chipped, you believe it is their fault and that your pieces ought to be replaced? Huh? As for them placing them back on the shelves once you returned the damaged pieces, right, that is a bit odd! edited by KCQ on 21/11/2011

@ Sabrina.... Oh my word, totally...I cannot believe Simon had the deciding factor and allowed him to remain, the kid is so obnoxious irrelevant of whether he's got what it takes to be a rap artiste....sheesh. Thank goodness Simon pointed out the obvious albeit I would have sent him home....end of story.

OK thanks to you both,... I thought we'd round up the trip with an overnight stay in Aqaba following all the inland sightseeing....I'm planning an overnight stay in Petra for sure as it was recommended, we're staying in Amman overnight too as we have a late evening arrival. We were told to visit the Citadel... and then head to Jaresh (sp?) for a day trip....visit Mt. Nebo & Maraba enroute. No young kids but two jet lagged ones will be tagging along :) Once again, thanks :)

Yes, we have been and our experience was unfortunately very disappointing. The prices were outrageous to compensate for the mediocre food that was served. It's a "never again" for us. Perhaps others have had a better experience...

I've visited friends in Splendour Villas..... they're okay, a wee bit dark but you get used to it. The last I heard they were going for around AED210-220....who knows, they may have come down now since the huge mosque built adjacent to the compound is almost ready. There are some other compounds close to JESS they are handled by Gargesh (sp) properties. You ought to see if those suit your needs. All the best with your search

When I called Avenue & asked for a ballpark figure for one window 170cms W x 140cms H the lady on the phone came back w/ AED2,995....wow, I thought she was having me on.... I'll have to keep looking, I really do not want the hassle you have just experienced. Kudos to you for still having a SOH, tks for the feedback, greatly appreciated..... :))
