Be aware that the TRADE CENTRE APARTMENTS have "smoking and [i'>NON[/i'> smoking" rooms adjacent which defeats the whole purpose of choice! We recently went to see a friend there & fumes infiltrate through bathroom and kitchen vents, totally disgusting. They pointed this out to management were told they could not do anything about it. Typical backwards thinking. Such dimwits, for a start, don't allocate them on the same floor in the same area !! Anyway, that has put us off recommending them to friends.

From some recent feedback I've had, I would NOT use On The Move... Don't be fooled by Western expat approach, smooth talk and reassurance to begin with etc., Apparently fizzles by the end and individual can be a nasty piece of work, misquoting seems to be the specialty. I'd stick to Supreme Way since the feedback you have thus far is positive.

Just got into this debate last night .... Surely a "professional" moving company must have some set charges per cubic meter/per destination....?? If this is not the case, and one suspects that some very underhanded stuff is going on, which governing body in Dubai deals with this, does it fall under consumer rights? T I A

[b'>Isn't that the truth.[/b'>...my goodnss there are so many inconsiderate time wasters out there ! Back and forth messaging and then they don't show up or even worse, they do and it takes them forever to look around (nosing about really) and then they don't buy the item they said they wanted (price was upfront on the ad)... After our experience, I'll avoid certain nationalities because from our experience they were arrogant and felt the right to dictate what the item was worth to them. Have shown a few the front door cursing under my breath. :(( edited by KCQ on 17/06/2012

Not sure if this will help but worth a shot... neighbour leaving at the end of month, was planning on participating in the last flea market sale had to cancel as she's unwell so has tons of stuff for sale. I think she has some furniture, pictures, rugs etc., If you leave your e.mail address I'll pass it on to her & then pls remove immediately. Just read the bit about plants...she has lots of houseplants too edited by KCQ on 15/06/2012

Try and ask at the Virgin store or the Apple outlet at Dubai Mall first, I seem to remember one guy explaining that by resetting the system on my iPhone might erase FT since it is not allowed in Dubai. :( Mods, hope you don't mind... If anyone is interested, I'm selling a brand new Apple iPad Smart Cover (duplicate purchase) & Virgin won't take it back. It is Grey, the "concertina" type that rolls back into a stand. AED100 inclusive of Incipio anti screen glare/protector. TIA

There is a Marine Sanctuary somewhere which is run by a prominent local chap, can't think of his name. However, if you ask any vet and mention the turtle sanctuary they ought to point you in the right direction & he can probably guide you re employment etc., All the best.

SUMMER PET TRAVEL Just heard that some airlines have a summer pet travel embargo from the UAE. Would any of you happen to know if this is correct and perhaps point me in the right direction? I have checked some airline websites but info is more cold temperatures related. TIA

@ Ang Lou if anyone will know what the latest procedure is or whether the particular procedure you're after is carried out in DXB, it'll be Dr. Jaffer Khan! Gauba is an ophthalmologist, granted he'll offer some advice but realistically the bottom line is that it's a comestic impovement so to speak. You might end up having to eventually see a plastic surgeon on Gauba's recommendation. Call Dr. Khan's clinic and ask them if such a procedure is carried out, it'll save you some time. Anyway, just thought I'd throw that in, food for thought :)

Definitely report to the Municipality....perhaps you can ask a vet as to which department as they are bound to know. Furthermore, writing to 7 Days works wonders, if nothing else, one way or another the owner will be alerted to what's going on, let's give him/her the benefit of the doubt...they will soon know that people will report such atrocious and mean behaviour. As for what Sandy Dogg said...too right, it is down to LAZINESS... I had the same experience at the pet shop near Johnny Rocket & Sand Sea sports shop on Beach Road...I was furious w/the Filipina girl there and pointed out that apart from urine there was also feces in the cage and the dogs were "crying" desperate to get out. She said "I'll do it later...." I got my phone out and proceeded to take photos & told her I would clean the cages if she wasn't going to do it. She proceeded to inform me that some of the dogs were not for sale but that they were bording them for customers who were away. All the best and thank you for your feedback.

All I can say from our own personal experience is that our LL's Indian middle man (LL is Ali & Sons, AD based company, they own Sidra village amongst other complexes.,) ripped us off BIG TIME ! Six years as tenants, took great care of the place and added numerous fixtures (towel rails, loo roll holders etc.,), handed the place over in pristine condition & the SOB (middle man) kept AED5K from our deposit arguing that they had to paint it and remove nails...oh and that there were cracks in the wall, oh my word, so now the tenant is responsible for subsidence, WTH.... RIDICULOUS situation all around because he has to paint the place before handing it over to new tenants in any case. He refused to take our calls etc., When I suggested asking RERA to look into the matter his arrogant reply was, "go ahead, we are a big company, they will not help you..." argghhhh I have ensured that none of our contacts moving here use Ali & Sons after this horrid experience. I can only advise newcomers, ensure you have this issue written out clearly in the contract before signing the dotted line. Everywhere else in the world, LL allow for wear and tear...in fact some of them even offer to freshen up the paint when renewing contract after 2-3yrs.

A mutt actually :)) Yes, have one of those condenser set ups in the airing cupboard at home, although have to admit, I totally dislike because in our case every time there's a trace of condensation within dryer, it trips the electrical system...a pain in the u know what! Right, closer to time once decision made, I'll pop into ACE and check out options.

Thanks "tatty head" :)) for that, good idea...!! if we move in I'll do the same....although tempted to see if they will install a cooker hood and devise for the vent to be placed in kitchen ceiling a long as there is some outlet there for the fumes to be expelled. Our dryer will reequire an outlet of some sort too, question is where to place it, so lots to think about before I make a decision.... Again, thank you!

I finally viewed some of the places!! Some odd stuff though, the two bedroom and the three bedroom haven't got the same allocated spaces for cookers and refrigerators! IMHO that is just bizarre, what were they thinking?!!! (OK not thinking? :)) Also no cooker hoods....and no options for installing them. Bear in mind the kitchens I viewed had no windows, have any of the kitchens got windows? Again, dark wooden cupboards in enclosed areas w/no natural light, rather oppressive. Yikes, it sure makes me wonder who designs these kitchens and more importantly, who approves them?!! The Podium villas -- unfortunately way over my budget but good to get a glimpse. One thing that would probably get on my nerves is that the apartments in the area enrouch in close proximity. Anyway, I have a question for you all living there...do you tend to get cooking smells infiltrating from neighbours? I ask this because as we came out of the elevator on one of the floors, it was like stepping into downtown Ravi's (;-P)...!!! Since the apartment door was open, the smell lingered and I am naturally concerned that if this is the case, then our clothes and soft furnishings will be affected. TIA, I really do appreciate some feedback regarding this issue.

I have been "trying" to view 2 or three bedroom apartments in Executive Towers and have failed miserably in getting agents to show me any. I am told they are all full ! How exactly do you get to the Towers from DXB Mall? If I just show up, will the receptionist on duty allow me to view any vacant ones? Any feedback perhaps w/reliable agents name will be most appreciated. TIA

@ jetsetz....We're looking to move, any chance you can give me your e.mail so i can address some questions regarding The Lofts? re colour schemes... (My two fils worth....) I would go for Index....and on a personal note, white everything/stark is MY DREAM...:) I cannot stand what is condisered the norm out here...dark doors, dark wardrobes and kitchen cupboards, brown everything in bathrooms...or pink or green...ugh!! Drives me insane when I see that in smallish rooms with small windows and tinted glass, IMHO, the beauty of having a blank canvas is you are not dictated by any colour and you can splash any colour you wish and co ordinate accessories to your heart's delight! All the best w/your move.

Would you please give me some feedback about both places... i.e. ballpark figure for rents (minumum 2 bedrooms), are white goods provided? If not, are we allowed an electric oven/gas burner combination? (I read conflicting feedback re this :( ) Is there a preference as to which Executive Tower building I ought to view? Are there any balconies, will scaled down patio furniture fit comfortably? Any recommendations re realtors who market them (I did try to get some info from respective websites but nothing concrete) and any other info you may feel relevant to a prospective tenant, thanks !

Ditto, I too use Excedrin Migraine (which you cannot actually buy in DXB), they too have been removed from shelves in the States. Apparently there's been some contamination in some of the batches. If somebody can get you the equivalent, look for Walgreens Headache or Migraine relief, same as Excedrin.

Re Maria Bonita tortillas ...I've always just gone and bought some but of course if you're after a huge quantity, perhaps it will help if you gave them a call and pre ordered. They sell corn taco chips by the bag. Re Mexican chocolate, I saw some months ago in Gallerie LaFayette Gourmet (top floor) and more recently in the gourmet shop on Beach Road...( can't remember the name of the "pinkish" shopping mall but I think Dome Cafe is located there too) HTH

In retrospect, I wish we had stayed away for a couple of days, the fumes lingered on and it was ghastly no matter how many doors and windows were left open. Thankfully, we only had the outside sprayed and that was potent enough to filter into the house so cannot imagine what it's like to have indoors sprayed too...:(

I empathise....I can understand some trying to sell their wares at perhaps AEd100 more than they wish to get in order to accommodate bargain hunters, however, i just don't get those trying to rip off folk. I've got some items up for sale at the moment.... and whilst I have slashed prices and hoped that I wasn't going to get the dire hard hagglers, I can tell you I'm experiencing some really annoying "viewers" :( They also can't tell the difference between quality and middle of the road items. I have also had quite a few of "no shows" after i waited for hours for them to show up. Pretty stressful... edited by KCQ on 19/04/2012
