I am stay at home and I still do not like your argument and they way you are putting it out there without any respect for other people..I really do hope you are not teaching that to your children! I am sure they would rather have a working mom who takes care of other people's feelings and is able to teach them how to be understanding, open minded and how to express themselves in a coherent way and with respect than a stay at home mom who has no respect for other people's opinions and ways of life... Well said... would be interested of the kind of education you (Lady Luck) are given to your LO (ooops) edited by Keila on 08/09/2011

Around 110 (wash & blow dry only). The ones offered by Hair Works are overpriced and generally not as good as others.

In RAK, you have the Hilton Resort and Spa or the Rotana Cove. I personnally prefer the Hilton Resort and Spa where you have many swimming pools, a spa, a private beach, a little park for kids and a couple of good restaurants. Also, the city is not too far if you need some shopping. Enjoy

Wow... Lady Luck thank you for reminding me why I rarely comment on this forum! Who exactly are you to judge peoples lifestyles and work situations?!? So come on Lady Luck judge me...... or judge me: a full time working mother (longer hours than those below) with an 10 months old baby who stay with the nanny the whole day.................................................... yeah I am a very BAD mother!

I would go with the full time nanny. Since you both work long hours, it is safer to live so that you will come to know well the person who will take care of your child. Therefore, you will need a 2 bd apartment. I do not really know your budget but it is quite possible to find those with maid room included for as low as 55K/year around the new Dubai. Good luck

Reem al bawadi is quite ok, the food is good compared to many other places. However, the queue is just ridiculous... and yes, they do smoke a couple minutes afer eating, so it is not quite pleasant when you have kids around. The best iftar I have been so far this year is at Ewaan at the Old Palace... Around 200 aed but well worth it.

I think that you can find it in most of the malls. The one in MOE is located on the ground floor not too far from The Body shop.

Oh I've just seen your the same poster who complained that your maid gives u attitude and has become lazy, who u have only had for 6 months. Maybe she's relized she can earn more money else where. edited by fairycakeyumm on 17/08/2011 Probably... but it won't happen until next year Mmmmm have u not heard of maids absconding. I am well awared of this... that is why I am giving her other benefits other than her salary and she is truthfully happy; no chance she will do this :)

I think I quite clearly stated that the AGENCY advised us to pay her AED 500 and we have this in writing. Incidentally, I know a few family friends who employ Ethiopians and pay them the same because this is the rate they have been advised. I also have another family friend who pays her Ethiopian maid a higher salary because she speaks perfect English and has a few years of experience under her belt. Correct

http://www.familysearch.org/eng/default.asp The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days Saint or "the Mormons" offers this service. If you have a genealogy center nearby, it will be better as someone will be there to help you with your search; without any fee. However, there is none in Dubai.

My last flight was in Economy class as I was flying with an infant (was hoping that many other kids will be around me this time but was not lucky). There are not much differences between Business & Eco when it comes to the entertainement and food. The main difference is that in business and 1st class, you have a full bed and partitions between you and your neighboors; which are very convenient for long flights. I love the mini bar at the back of the plane. Plenty space for strectching and good place to socialize.

To OP, was the divorce particularly nasty? I have a friend who divorced her husband, and he wasn't very happy about it. Her mother became very ill and she left her kids with a good friend for a week to fly out to help her mother. The ex then promptly filed charges against her for abandoning the children. It was a huge mess. The divorce was not nasty. We are in good terms. He is begging me to leave the child with him as he wants to introduce the child to his family and wants her daughter to experience the EID holiday with all the traditions. Also, he is insisting for the "ME" time as he has his after the divorce and said that he feels so much better. Anyhow, thanks for this, I have never thought about this!

Maybe your time spent on here could be spent spending time with your baby before you jet off leaving him/her, especially when your mind seems made up. or maybe I should leave my DD go hungry and count on you to provide for us. Oh dear. Whatever. exactly. this entire thread seems like a royal wind up by th OP... cue original confused post - followed by rude replies to everyone......very strange i don't even see how a post like this could end up in 7 days and it's not even thursday :\: and your answer to my question is ???

I personally would not even consider traveling without my 10 month DD, even if I had/was going through a hard time, but those of you who are calling other posters on here the moral police, please sit back and consider the fact that the OP DID ACTUALLY ASK IS IT OK OR NOT? Just because the answers don't fit in with her or anyone else's opinions is beside the point. You ask a question on a public forum, you have to have broad shoulders and accept what comes back at you. I actually find the OP's post very silly. She asks if its ok, says that she doesn't even feel she needs this 'me' time, then goes on to say she has already bought the tickets. OP, you've made your mind up already, why the need to bring it to EW to justify your decision? Maybe your time spent on here could be spent spending time with your baby before you jet off leaving him/her, especially when your mind seems made up. Let me repeat my question me: is it ok or not? You: no FULL STOP... Now go on Why the need for the question when the tickets have been purchased? Duh Tickets can be changed... I cancelled my last ticket 2 hours before flying

I am not defending your maid and whatever she said to your daughter is unforgivable, especially at her age. However, it seems that this comment is quite popular for them and they say this to everyone bigger than themselves. There are a couple of very interesting threads on EW debating about this fact.

I already booked our plane tickets. However, the father (who also think that I need time for myself) wants to keep the baby for these 4 days. I am not confortable with the idea but he is the father and know that they need time together. Thanks ladies for your replies and especially the ladies who gave me links and guidance for Greece.

It can be done - as long as you take the required paperwork (not sure about all the docs but you would need your passport and visa copies, letter from your employer, salary letter, and tenancy contract at the least I would assume) and your salary is above the minimum cut-off (sorry I do not know what that is for sponsoring a maid), you are allowed to do it. In fact, it is married women who are given a hard time to sponsor maids as they are told that their husbands should be the ones doing all the sponsoring :\: or the single men

I am not too sure but it is quite possible for you to sponsor this lady. There are a few single working mothers with kids in Dubai. Obviously they will need at least a living maid or nanny.

This clause (written with different wording in each company) started to appear after the crisis. If you do not feel confortable with, do not sign and do not come here. Just keep in mind that this is common here in UAE.

I was looking for one too a few months back... however, after evaluating the pros and the cons, I came to a conclusion that the chance of absconbing, parties, bad performance, etc, etc.... would be higher than with others from a non french speaking country. Anyway, this is just my opinion.

DD got hers at 4 months. Her father was insisting for this as it is part of his culture. My mother has always forbidden this practice (I had to wait the majority age - 18); I remember begging her all these years and asking this as a birthday gift every year. Therefore; I had no pb to pierce my DD's ones at young age and truthfully, she looks fabulous and had no pb of infection so far.

I cant advise on Mei Hip but I have the Ergo and bjorn. DS is around 8 kgs now and it is starting to get difficult to carry in the bjorn for over 30-45 mins. It was really great when he was younger. The Ergo is much better now but then again you cant carry them facing outward in that. But I love the Ergo as it sits lower on the hip.. I feel it gives me better weight distribution. HTH Thanks Glitzi... I suspected that the babybjorn will not be the best option as my baby gets heavier. Do you know where to buy the Ergo in Dubai? babysouk.com is not available for the month of July :(
