There are definately deals to be had out there but it just depends what make/model you want. woww emmaH; what a good deal... can I ask you which model did you buy? and how did you manage do save that much?

I am also a big fan of vouchers but very selective on the offers. For example, I will never buy any stay or services outside the UAE. Also, massages and other treatments are to be booked as soon as I receive the voucher to avoid the kind of pb OP had. I intend to use the vouchers as soon as possible to avoid the expiring date and I also believe that the first customers have better treatments than the last ones. I did not encounter bad services or experiences so far (and hopefully never). It is also true that they look at you differently than the customers who pay full price; while others look at you as a smart customer.

just a note... a new law effective 1 May 2011 - Bank are no longer allowed to grant 100% vehicle loans, a minimum of 20% downpayments are needed now. Apparently this has caused car sales to drop by around 40%! So, I'm guessing there are going to be some really desperate car salesman and dealerships out there offering some good deals, especially during Ramadan. that's right Dubaidella... I was thinking about the same think and waiting for these dealers to drop down their prices... didnt see it happen so far :(

A couple of friends are mobilizing here withing this month. They are currently looking for a vehicle that suits well with long distance. They are on a budget but a need a good 4x4 (medium size) for their site works. Would it be wise to suggest them to wait for the Ramadan promotion or to buy an used one from a leaving expat?

A lawyer told me one day to contact or go to Dubai court directly instead of trying to fly out; they can give you this info. Now, I know that the court is fairly big and have many departments but they can direct you at the information desk.

I believe that all rental car shops offer the monthly basis. They even prefer this way and you should get a discount rate also.

I am not sure about others but personally I will buy it... big fan of it. The entertainer will need to get a better selection for the coming years thanks to gonabit, groupon, etc...

This is a fascinating thread ... there are those who say it's fine to use CC to pay for holidays/flights. That's all well and good as long as people can afford to pay their CC bills (and not just the interest on the bill). If you can't afford either the holiday or the flight don't do it? You can't afford it. Face up to the facts and live with it. Sorry if this sounds harsh but we've been through a similar situation back in the UK (so no threat of jail time though) and it was a large mortgage not CC bill and DH lost his job. We were very close to losing our dream home. So, no holidays or flights anywhere, I found part time work to cover the mortgage cost, Dh was house husband whilst looking for another job. We vowed then that we'd never owe anybody anything ever again - never had another holiday or did anything until we'd paid off our mortgage and owned everything outright. Once DH found another job it took a few years but we stuck to our guns - if the cash wasn't in the bank we didn't do it. And if we can't afford to pay cash now, we still don't use the credit card because we pay the CC bill in full at the end of every month. I totally agree with der...

i understood that if the mother remarries any children that she has living with her automatically go to the father - no matter what age. True under Shariah law, if the father asks for the daughters. Non-muslims can choose not to have Shariah law apply. Our lawyer has covered this ground. Even for muslims, if the father is mental (!) the mother does win over the daughters till a certain age abt 13. Sat in Dubai court for hours and discussed real cases there with those who see these happen daily. Yes there are horror stories, but the real life daily cases are not as bad and the judge said to me in most situations regardless of religon, status children are given to the mother here in Dubai. At least those of us in similair situations can get some comfort that we have a chance, hence I mention. I think you could have obtain a restraint order from the police (after showing your medical report about the physical abuse) & attach the file to your divorce file. Also, I think you could have added a clause about the custody of your children in your divorce certificate. My friend has done and obtain the custody until the age of mariage (she is a christian european married with a muslim arab). Her ex husband has agreed on this. However, if she re-marry, she will loose the custody. Obviously he is psycho, glad that things are over between you both. My advise to you is play it soft with your ex and pray that he will meet someone else; so he can leave you alone and move on to a better future. Do not get too close or to too in touch with your fiance before your mariage; it could hurt you and your kids...

Hi DeserRain... please do not make any important decision now. I agree with marblesxx, give it some time before thinking about moving out. I know that lots of things around here will remind you of him but give it at least a month. Why not going to that trip by yourself? Get yourself pampered in another country... get some fresh air. I know it is hard, really hard but things will get better later on. Big hugs

Agreed... move one. They do not realize how damaging they can be... so leaving him is the best choice. I have been also in the same situation; I am still struggling as it is very new; but I feel so much happy without him. Do not make the mistake of marrying a person like this because; really, not even he will not change but he will do worst!

I just got my DD's ear pierced. It was kind of hard because they offer this service mostly in hospitals and clinics. Many jewerly shop owners inform me that they used to offer this service until the Dubai Municipality imposed a new rule regarding this. Only doctors or specialists are allowed to pierce ears. In Dubai Mall (the Gold souk); there is only one shop where you can get your ear pierced. However, on Friday, the person comes only late afternoon. Same thing the Pharmacy in Ibn Battuta; the person comes at night. I do not know about Claire but curious to know if the person is fully qualified and authorized by the Municipality. Your best chance is to go to a clinic.

There are lots of treads about 're-upholstering' on EW. I have made some research and end up in Satwa. If you turn right just after the Iranian hopital (coming from AD); you will find many shops that offer this service. Good luck! The price depends on your sofa but you need to negociate with them.

I am sorry but I do not know why you have to make all efforts and not him... The pb is him. For what I have read, you are one of the mother who takes good care of yourself! Does he also? or are you too conscious about yourself? Changing your physical appearance (hair cut, make up, etc...) is a good thing if you do it only for yourself first not to please someone else who gets bored; even your love ones.

There is a deal on Cobone for the Hilton Resort & Spa (if you like watersports) I have booked this for early July as I heard it is lovely there. Is the Cover Rotana close by the Hilton - we have the Rotana card so would probably prefer to eat there. Are there any good restaurants in the Cove Rotana? Sorry to say BellaUK... in July, there are lots of discounts on hotels or outdoor activities as it is the pick of summer heat... I went to many hotels during summer (including the coves); not enjoyable at all :(

I finally went to the US Embassy (lots lots of checking points) and gave me 2 companies with their contact numbers to help anyone who needs their degrees notarized from here. All of these troubles could be fixed if only, they have included these info on their main website or if they were answering their phone. Anyway, I will be more than happy to send you their contact numbers (it will save you lots of time); if anyone else encounters the same pb!
